Review The Lokal Cafe - Wolli Creek

Ruben N.
Having my brunch several times here. The food is generally good and the portion is quite generous. The ambience and location are also good. The coffee is also good. The floor staff and service are poor. As a business owner myself, I notice it right away that the issue here is leadership or even cultural issue. The waitress is not even trying to serve you until you call them. They are not friendly at all. No smile, nothing. Well, it’s not Karen’s Diner though!

A great cafe in Wolli Creek with a warm cosy feeling. Had the wild mushrooms for breakfast which were delicious and a good size serving. Coffee is great too and my usual stop for a caffeine hit on the way to work.

The first time I visited this cafe, staff very friendly, and the food was plentiful and delicious. I recommend everyone to come here to enjoy breakfast and start your beautiful day👍🏻

In my view, the best place for breakfast and lunch in Wolli Creek Discovery Village. It gives you a good combination of western and eastern types of food in the menu multiplied by great chef effort making food very yummy. My all times choices are Waffle Benedict, Avo smash and Lamb ragout pasta. Special words for really good coffee. Guys use Campos beans (they also cell them) and know how extract them in a good way. Finally, staff is very friendly and in general place has really nice vibe.

Great coffee and great brunch, had the Brekky burger and it was delicious and packed with my favourite breakfast items

Perfect place to have breakfast! Decent serving. Reasonable price. It's worth every penny! The food was so amazing 👌🏼 And the staff were really nice.

Nice friendly cafe, had their açai bowl and coffee and both were quite nice. Can be quite busy during peak hours

Amazing cafe for your breakfast and brunch needs. Food quality is really good and th staff are nice. I'd recommend grabbing the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon if you're after something light and the Scotch fillet steak if you're after a heavy and hearty meal. They drinks there are fantastic and very refreshing if you're after something sweet to quench your first. There are toilets and you could choose to sit both outdoors and indoors

I don’t go here often at all but It seems that the service levels have dropped significantly Over the last year because there are different ppl working there. My order was incorrect, despite saying 3 times what I required, so I had to wait for a new dish to be prepared. That was tolerable, but the staff attitude at the tables is very poor. My server (on two occasions now) has been very abrupt and today gave a bad look when I asked a question about the type of fish that they have on the menu. They are Generally not attentive to their customers which is a shame because it’s one of the nicer menu offerings in the area. My guest who I took there From out of town ordered a beef burger and the meat looked like it had been microwaved instead of grilled and so she didn’t eat the burger. The person serving coffees is pleasant and attentive but the rest of the place needs to improve. Additionally there was no strict COVID check-in, I had to ask about it.

Poor attitude from the waiters while waiting for a takeaway coffee. Shot me dirties and spoke about me while I was right in front of them. Have not returned as there are plenty of nicer cafes in the area.

We popped in here before our flight and what a great find! Serving Campos coffee and middle eastern dishes, way better than airport food. We tried the shakshouka and habib (middle eastern brekky) which were decently portioned and full of flavour.

Best coffee in Wolli Creek. Friendly and very helpful staff who go out of their way to please customers. Food delicious and ambience is happy, pleasant and modern.

I have come here twice and both times I’ve had the octopus salad. My fiancé had the falafel mixed plate during our most recent visit. My salad has been dressed well and very yummy both times, and my fiancé’s falafel plate was filling and delicious!

It’s a local hang out for both of us, and The Lokal Cafe’s coffees are pretty good. No surprise here that we haven’t been let down by this place for food and coffee options, whether eating in or taking away. They’re most definitely the Wolli Creek “leaders” for brekkie/lunch options if you’re ever looking out for somewhere to eat at during those times in the area.

Definitely highly recommended! 🥘

Have been to this cafe a few times and always had a good experience. Always manage to get a table and receive prompt service. Staff are polite and food comes out in a reasonable time. I mainly do the brunch dishes which have average pricing and reaosnable portion size.

Rude staff and below-average food. I live in Wolli Creek and I’ve tried all cafes around this area, among all this one stands out to be the most terrible place if you’re trying to get nice food and service. The waitress constantly roll her eyes to me and served my coffee with slamming it on my table. Food looks nothing like what they posted on social media. I’ve been here about 5 times to realise the problem is not because of they’re short staffed or during peak hour it’s just how they are.

Wish zomato had 0 for review, the food at lokal is average, the pictures they have posted on social media is different to the actual served food, rude staff who only want to be nice to particular customers, I'm not going to cafe to make friends, but it would be nice to have show some customer service skills. Friendly remind you to not go there on a Saturday or Sunday, staff won't seat you, soon you find a seat, they will rush you to order, and the food waiting time will be 30mins+, if you wonder where your food is, don't bother to ask the staff member, I will tell you what you will be replied by the staff "we are trying our best to accommodating everyone", like it was the first busy weekend they ever had. There are a few other cafes in Wolli Creek, don't let the rudeness ruin your weekend

Probably the best pancakes I’ve had in Sydney! And the sweet potato fries were nice and crispy as well. Service was really quick and friendly. Overall fantastic cafe.

Fabulous coffee & the knafeh french toast is suburb. I've had some that were too sickly sweet - this was the perfect combination of rose, pistachio & cheese. They are a very busy cafe but we didn't feel like we waited particularly long. Service is always warm & friendly.

Great food with a middle eastern twist on many old breakfast and brunch classics. The big breakfast and smashed Avo are also personal favourites. My family have always found the service first class, especially with our two young children in tow, the wait staff and manager go the extra mile to keep the little ones entertained to the extent that the kids love going to Lokal and sitting down for a meal. Yes the place can get busy due to great food and coffee however isn’t that the true indicator of a great cafe ?

A simple order of banana bread and ricotta cheese will take you 15 mins of waiting time. On top of that they have no dining in customers to be busy in the kitchen.

Bad customer service. The staff only stand around and talk to each other. They got my coffee order wrong and then blaming me the customer, even when we clearly order 2 of the same coffees. To be precise: Two skim flat white.
Very slow service and you have to sit and wait very long before someone actually take your order. No table water even after asking same girl 3 times. I rather spend my money somewhere else where they treat you like a human being.

Looks like every other brunch place however, the tomato is cooked well with a subtle flavour that makes you want more. Tomatoes are the winning piint of this place, even if you don't generally like them. The coffee is also good.

Campos Coffee & an amazing middle eastern inspired menu - and a nice selection of desserts. Very family friendly with play area outside. 5/5

I used to go to this place to order Coffee, and their coffee is good. However, the attitude and the service made me stop going forever!

Last week I went to order coffee and was talking on the phone, the person taking the order was busy talking to another waitress so I waited for her to finish. The Barista (guy making coffee) came, told the person behind me in queue to proceed with their order, and said in a VERY rude way "step aside, when you are ready to order come back". I told him I'm ready to order, then the Cashier paid attention and she took my order.

I went to discuss this attitude with him first, that he should took my order instead of asking me to step aside, and to my surprise he said yelling and again in a very rude way " Don't order if you are talking on the phone!" I'm not sure who the hell he thinks himself! but they definitely lost a customer, I'm not supposed to end all my calls before ordering a to go coffee!

I complained to the manager who didn't take any proper actions.

If they cannot provide a decent service and trained staff, they don't deserve the money I'm paying.

Absolutely no service. Had to set up tables ourselves, go up to the counter to order (they're meant to take orders at the tables), ask for water, ask for our forgotten latte. Hopefully they'll ask us to settle the bill ourselves too!

Was all prepared for a nice time at brunch here, but was sorely disappointed at the service. Asked for an extra table as we had a party of 5, and the wait staff pointed at the table and told us we can take that one. At no point were we offered any service or assistance by any of the half dozen wait staff present. "Great" service - the lack thereof is barely made up for by the quality of the food.

Ok I have been here several times now. Twice the staff have had a disagreement about something in front of all the clients. Service is ok. Food is average. Have had the French toast which is great. The hot chocolate is ok. Coffee good. Avocado smash not the greatest at all. Overall they need to improve the food a little especially as they have great competition across the road

Zaatar for breakfast...cant go wrong. Nice atmosphere and great service. Menu had a good variety to choose from. Well worth the trip from Seven Hills...

What a difference this area is now since I lived nearby between 2005 - 2008. Back then there was only two fully established residential buildings on the site and no food options other than a bakery and basic cafe/shop close to the medical centre around the other side. a very busy cafe with service a little inattentive and confusing (to order, although the wait for my dish to arrive was super quick) • menus say pay and order at counter, however, after waiting in line to order I was told table service was provided • no water offered yet other tables were provided with no prompting • despite these little inconsistent quirks, I left satisfied • I am fairly certain I was undercharged so I will be in contact to double check and rectify if required. really enjoyed the brioche French toast with ricotta, berries, and maple syrup • the brioche was not overly soaked prior to cooking so still retained some texture which I prefer in French toast • the berries (except strawberries) appeared to be either canned or frozen/thawed which I don't actually mind as it gives extra juice/sauce to the dish • what I loved about it was that it was not overly sweet despite a generous drenching of maple syrup. Coffee by Campos was strong and decent.

Food is great and the ambiance is truly inviting. Great coffee, great café. Quite busy on Sundays mornings. They have breakfast menu till 1:00 pm apart from the lunch menu. Highly recommended

Great service, nice coffee, tasty food.

On a whim we stopped at wolli creek for something to eat. The Lokal seemed busy which is usually a good sign. We were placed at a convenient table for two as I had a baby with me and the waitress even thought to ask me if I'd like something decaf before I placed my order- so sweet and considerate.

We were both drawn towards a middle eastern plate and though a little awkward to eat it was delicious and cleared our plate.

It's right beside the lift to the downstairs car park and opposite wolli creek station. If you just want a coffee and a small bite to eat, they usually have a glass counter filled with sweet treats.

We're returning customers.

Forget the tired old eggs benedict and bacon and egg roll from the local café. Lokal Café does things differently (and it’s not just in the variation of the nomenclature). The Middle Eastern twist to classic brunch options makes for a wonderful and unique meal to start the day. For more details, check out our blog!
