We really enjoyed our meal at Caveau when we visited in December 2018. We were there on a Saturday night so did the degustation. The restaurant was packed and there was a good buzz in the room. It wasn't too noisy though so ticked all the boxes in terms of atmosphere.

Each course was delicious, and artfully presented on the plate. There weren't any courses that I didn't enjoy. The food was inventive without being too crazy or unappealing. We've done a lot of degustations in our time (mostly in Sydney) and this experience was a very good one. At times, I felt the delivery of the courses could have been sped up a bit - especially given the kitchen has a good idea of what everyone will be eating given it's a set menu.

Service was friendly, down-to-earth and knowledgeable. My only criticism of the service was that I had to ask for my water glass to be filled up numerous times throughout the evening. Usually at a restaurant of this standard, this would just occur and you wouldn't have to ask.

My husband had the matching wines (premium option). He wasn't so fussed on the selection as he felt that some of the choices were trying to be too unusual.

At the end of the meal, the chef came out to chat to us. He obviously has a passion for his business and the produce he sources - and we thought this interaction was a nice touch.

Overall, a great experience. If you are looking for a special occasion restaurant in Wollongong, this is the place to come.

Went here with my wife and 6 months old son for our family weekend retreat from Sydney. Since we did not go out very much we managed to take some of the courses picture but not all of them, missed the best dish which was the duck (in my opinion). The food is very unique and represent Australia in a way, as a chef pursuing morden cuisines, i love the thoughts and creativity behind every dish at this place. The ambiance was nice and cozy but our son might had stirred it up a bit though 😅 i had a lavender tea which was very good, fragrant acted as a palate cleansing almost after every course. Service staff were very helpful and friendly. However, it still feels like there's something missing for the 5th star... i'll be back again soon for another experience!

Had the degustation menu, and I cannot find a single fault with anything. The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was understated, friendly, polite and professional. You cannot ask for more in a restaurant and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Finest dinning in Wollongong. Good for special occasions. There is a reason this has been awarded Good Food Guide hats for many years. Most local restaurant don't come close.

Food is probably the best in Wollongong. 5 of the 7 course degustation menu were excellent, 2 course missed completely. Tooth fish was so over cooked, almost inedible and pork was over cooked, tough and dry. Service was probably the worst I have encountered in Wollongong. Inexperienced children with no personality at all reciting their script by rote. One of them even said to me when I requested they not read their wine script, I need to sound pompous and like I know what I am talking about! It doesn't work at all.

Exquisite. I ordered the degustation menu at Caveau. The food was delightful and beautifully presented. The flavour palate was diverse and the atmosphere calm and professional. I particularly liked the goose. 10 out of 10.

A little Gem. We found this restaurant through the Entertainment Book, we have been twice now and the food is lovely. The first time we chose from the menu the second time we went with friends and had the degustation....everything was fantastic. The chef pops out at the end of service to make sure everyone is happy, staff are friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

Fabulous French Food. I love french food, and I love Caveau. This a classy, high quality establishment for Wollongong. If you love french, fine dining, then try Caveau. I understand that the cooking classes are great too...I haven't tried them yet, but they are on the to do list!

Damn good food. Prices are up there, but not out of reach for a special occasion. Occasional wine matching dinners are well worth it. Good rotation of menu also

All Round Great Experience. Faultless food with excellent matching wines and the service was just right. The room itself is well done with plenty of space around each generously sized table. A chat with owner and head chef Peter Sheppard topped of a memorable evening. Although reasonable expensive it is still good value, as you get what you pay for plus some. We will definately be back..

Located in a very strange part of Wollongong, considering most fine dining in Wollongong is associated with the beach views, but Caveau doesn't need a view. It has the best fine dining experience in Wollongong. Once you step inside the subtle lighting and exquisite food will take you places.

Wollongong's Hatted Restaurant. Have always had a beautiful meal and experience here on special occasions.
The signature dessert, the Chocolate Pithivier is amazing.
The cooking class is informative and you get to eat what you cook.

Now that I have tried their three course menu, hopefully, I will have the chance to be back again soon for their seven course degustation menu!!

Innovative dishes, local ingredients, interesting flavors. Great ambience, friendly staff. The crocodile and green ants was interesting but I would have liked the green ants to take a more center stage. The desserts are fantastic. At 11 dishes for $110, it is great value. I highly recommend.

We had an amazing evening at Caveau. First of all, the waiting staff were brilliant. Very informative and helpful, and passionate about what they do. Accommodating too - we had our (sleeping!) 5 month old baby with us and we had plenty of space for her pushchair. Food was great. Inventive and beautifully presented, but also some incredible flavours. I would never have thought that green ants could be so tasty! 😃 Would definitely visit again if in Wollongong. Thanks all!

I especially loved the use of native flora and fauna and local produce. The nod the indigenous cuisine is a lovely touch. We loved the barramundi (probably the best we have had) and their version of Apple crumble.

I can honestly say I have never had anything like the food on offer at Caveau. The little damper with the seeded butter was absolutely amazing. It was so good. All the other courses were amazing also. We were a little underwhelmed by our main meal. Sirloin could have been a little more tender and the the lettuce hearts were not to our taste. must try
