Review Akari Japanese Cuisine - Wollongong

I love this place. I came here on New Year’s eve twice, and the second time I was proposed to! Food quality is excellent and every dish tastes great. The portion sizes are a bit smaller than usual but it just means you can taste more. The carpaccio is the best.

Excellent high quality Japanese food. Every dish was perfect, and the attention to detail with the flavours was fantastic. Service was excellent from all the staff. Highly recommended

This is a cute little restaurant situated on keira street. It is byo wine for $3 per person, which is reasonable. The kaarage chicken and the tempura seafood and vegetable were very tasty but we were a little bit disappointed about the slicing of the sashimi. Some bits were really chunky. Another disappointment was by 8:10pm all the staff were packed up and ready to go, as patrons we felt really rushed.

SLAVE TRADERS My wife worked here a few years ago with some girls she met at uni. The other girls had no working visas but my wife is a permanent resident. They paid cash only, nearly half the minimum wage and one night when they had my wife working in the kitchen and front of house with a new waitress the new girl undercharged a table $100 so they took 10 hours pay from my wife’s pay packet that week because she was supposed to be “training” her. That’s right $10 per hour to burn your skin, train new staff and get mistreated. Eat here if it fits with your beliefs.

Fantastic food and restaurant. Nice simple menu with the most well known and popular dishes. Pleasant staff who are very attentive and polite. The restaurant is nice and cosy with a lovely crossword when the doors are open. Not too bright which creates a great chilled atmosphere. Dishes are of a good portion size and priced accordingly.

Fresh sushi, nicely cooked eggplant with a thick miso sauce. And lightly fried agedashi (tofu) and nigiri sushi. Shame about the rice, it was too glutinous. Otherwise a nicely balanced and tasty dinner.
