Review Mo Chi - Wollongong

LOVE Mochi. Fine dining modern Chinese with high quality, fresh ingredients. Soup dumplings are a must try. Staff are very friendly. High end pricing but worth it in my opinion.

the small dishes were carefully made & tasted great. waiters really friendly. only bad point was noisiness due to hard surfaces & lack of baffles

Great range of themed cocktails, with interesting dishes. Choose a quiet time to avoid noisy crowds.

Great service, fantastic dumplings. On the plus, the rest of the food is also amazing.

Been here once before took my hubby to hospital. Nice chinese food but for that price the portion is too tiny so we need to order 3-4 menu..

From 12 o'clock clockwise - the black Jiaozi, the barbecued pork bun, two types of Shuimai, the Har Gou and the Xiao Long Bao. Opening week in July at MoChi was a flurry of activity and customer interest. The owners, the Sheppards, already operate Caveau, a small French dining restaurant across the road and which the Sydney Morning Herald has consistently renewed its one Hat rating. Occupying two shop lots, Mo Chi is spanking clean with neutral hues (Nest Emporium), friendly staff (ground and first point of contact) and with a spacious feel. The bar is upfront so one can ponder on its offerings whilst waiting for a table. There is an in-room divider blocking up the inner third of the place, perhaps catering for any private functions cordoned off from the main dining floor.

I thought to myself "yes!! Finally a dumpling place in Wollongong". Unfortunately very pricey for what you get tho, I'd rather travel to China town in Sydney to get more for far less. The venue lacks appropriate styling, seems like it's from the 90's (which is not very appealing). The staff seemed pleasant. Overall, disappointing, it's not pretty, it's over priced and lacks in menu options. Shame really

I really enjoyed the food here, dumplings were yummy and so were the salt and pepper prawns! It's a bit on the pricier side compared to your normal dumpling places, but if you are looking for modern Asian food and something a bit different in the Gong then this a great place to try!

We were met by friendly attentive wait staff who took us to our seat and promptly provided water and a warming smile.
We ordered a serve of Xiu Long Bao (soup dumplings), steamed BBQ Pork buns, and a Duck leg to share.

The Xiu Long Bao pastry was overly thick, dry (very little soup inside) and plain to taste also there was an absence of appropriate condiments. Over priced for 3 small dumplings.

The BBQ pork buns were small and below average, I've bought better ones frozen from a Chinese grocer. Again over priced.

We were hoping that when the duck leg arrived that our dining experience would improve... Unfortunately it didn't. The initial flavor was of chlorinated water. The duck skin was nice and crispy. Also if you want rice or noodle to accompany your main, you will be charged a minimum of $12 extra...

Over all we were highly disappointed and wouldn't recommend.

We walked next door and had a much nicer meal.

We enjoyed dumplings at the bar and a good bottle of wine. Try the duck dumplings as they were a special treat. Good value and friendly service in a modern setting.
We had lunch here and ordered quite a few items from the menu, most items were of a high standard/quality, the wait staff were great happy, helpful and attentive. We did not like the Morton bay bug dumplings, they were very disappointing had no flavour, the filling tasted very bland almost watery and the pastry was floury. We did mention this, but nothing was done about it.
I would definitely go back, just not happy how they handled criticism
