Review Balgownie Hotel - Wollongong

I bought the best steak on the menu and got a small piece of steak with bone and gristle in it. Salad was just lettuce, and while I got a sorry, it was just lip service. The people I know who are at the pub regularly have confirmed the meals have gone down hill in big way recently, and the way the pub is run is turning people off. These are loyal people to the area and the pub. When I asked about the meal, the followup was ordinary, and made me feel like not returning.

Best Easter lunch ever 🥂 the seafood was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was great. Very helpful and friendly staff. Venue manager visited our table several times to make sure everything met our expectations. Would give 6 stars if I could

Good pub with good atmosphere. Enjoyed a few beers while watching the excellent band, Moonshine. Great guitar work by local legend, Brett Caldwell.

The menu and quality of food is absolutely bananas. I've had the steak and the snitty, and seriously......props to the chef and kitchen. Simple food done to it's very best. Very beautiful classic *Australiana* aesthetic. I'm coming back

Good pub but bad bistro! They should call it Chicken Shop Hotel 🏨! A few months ago was nice. Different menu was more complicated and something you want to come back for. Now chicken in ~70%! So I was hungry today and decided to order food ( chicken parmigiana)from there over the phone. I asked for mash potatoes instead chips because I can't. No mash again! I guess we have problems with potatoes in Australia!

Bally Pub is one of my hometown classic old style pubs with awesome tasty food and service !! A MUST TRY is the “Beef Ale Pot Pie” with mushy peas / creamy mash potato .. OMG 20/10 YUMMY !!

Went to an engagement last night. Tho food was nice, obviously venue under staffed. 1 food server. As well ceiling leaking rainwater into the wall tv. Floor & carpet dirty & smelly- needed a serious steam clean. Tables on verandah filthy black. Our nice dresses terribly soiled. Felt embarrassed for our hosts. The owners have let this lovely old hotel run down. Will think twice about going to a function there again.

I want to mention the Steak I had here last night. It was perfectly cooked and priced . The 300gm sirloin . Cooked medium / Rare. Probably the best pub steak I have had . The meal , the staff and the service all great.

Went there for the Blues Brothers tribute band. Nice pub, great band and a good crowd ... Overall it was a good night. However, they weren't set up for the crowd that they got that night though they were expecting a large crowd. There was nowhere to dance and a lot of people struggled just to be able to see the band. Moving some of the furniture would have helped with this. It took a very long time to get a drink and I felt for the bar staff as some patrons became quite frustrated.

Great pub...amazing staff and host...Mr Ian Redpath... The food always looks amazing... One of the premier venues for live music on the NSW South Coast & Illawarra Region...some amazing live gigs coming up throughout 2018... A safe family venue...

Was up there this afternoon & was very disappointed. Signs everywhere saying kids eat free. My husband & I ordered 2 burgers however our kids meals were not free because our burgers were not classed as main meals. I have never seen anywhere in the pub that says what you can & can't eat for the kids to eat free. Apparently it is because of new terms & conditions according to the bistro staff however as I was scrolling down your page you advertise kids eat free in a few pages but I don't see any terms & conditions anywhere. There was also free face painting for the kids which I thought was great & was amazed that it was free, but we lined up for one hour with 5 kids under 6, then at 225pm the face painter announced that she finishes at 230pm so the next child will be her last. Couldn't she have said that at 2pm that she finished at 230pm, the poor kids that had waited so long in line!! Or maybe she could have a sign next time. I normally love Bally pub but was very disappointed this afternoon.

Never a drama. Well organised hotel with friendly staff and awesome live entertainment. Always a pleasure to visit this venue.

Went there tonight was disgusted with the language from the bingo it could of been in private room instead of Middle of pub there were ppl dining that didn't appreciate it

I had a fall off my crutches, had help immediately great staff very helpful. Great atmosphere with good prices, all around a great place to enjoy a cold 1 or 2 and the meals are large and very tasty.

We held our engagement party here and it was amazing. We didn't have to worry about a thing and the function manager and bar staff on the night were amazing!

Great food as always ! Going again tonight ! The music is always great , staff are great too �

Went for the INXS show and introduce the local pub to family that have moved into the area. Everyone was totally inpressed, great food and entertainment and atmosphere

Was there last night . Ordered dinner at 7:06pm . Was told it would be 50kin wait ( which already sounded quite a long time ) but we decided it would be worth it . Food arrived at 8:54pm . 1 hour and 48 min wait to have dinner . I have never had to wait for that long . It was unbelievable . I have to admit that the dinner was very nice though . The price was also right . But having to wait for that long for a fish and a chicken schnitzel was beyond a joke . If we had been at a three Michelin star restaurant then maybe , but this is just a pub meal . Come on , get your act together .

Had a great night at the blues brothers tribute show last night. The show was awesome BUT had to wait over an hour for our food. The pub really does need a bigger kitchen to handle busy nights. Also there were only 4 people working behind the bar and it took at least 30 minutes to get a drink.

You gotta get rid of the large post near the dance floor. It obscures the view of the bands and people cant get in to dance.

Beautiful food BUT we got there at 12 noon and they had already run out of Bally Burgers and Sweet Potato!!!! It's not as if we got there at the end of lunch!! But disappointing but we did enjoy the atmosphere and the food we did get :-)
