Review Saam Saii Thai - Wonga Park

Stephan Klatt
On the way back to Melbourne we got hungry and this place was recommended by Google. We really liked it. We ordered 2x Pad Thai, 1x Mussaman Curry and 1x Beef salad. The flavours were awesome and the quality also good. The salad had a bit too much meet, but still yummy and if you are a meet lover this is your option. Very polite staff. We would stop here again.

Above average food. Service fast and efficient, with a friendly smile and very cost-effective. Unfortunately it was a bit cold.

The beat Thai food I have had. Simple set up with friendly staff. Feels authentic and food was full of flavour. Definitely recommend the BeerLao Lager. Excellent value for money.

Great ingredients, delicious food and friendly service - takeaway seafood Pad Thai and tempura vegetables

First time trying this place. Very friendly, clean well presented on arrival to collect order. Good portions and nice and hot. Just thought the massaman curry was to water and lacked some flavour. But otherwise ok 👍

Food here is delicious, authentic and well cooked.

I got takeway a few nights back and I must admit it was so delightful I had to rate it 5 stars. By far the best Thai by miles in the south east. The Grilled Pork was delicious, the Khao Pad was the real deal and the Penang Curry hit the mark! Well done guys, don't deviate as you are doing it right.

The food is awesome. Possibly Melbourne's cheapest Thai restaurant? Great place, Ming you rock!

The service is friendly, environment is spacious and comfortable.

Subpar food that was flavourless and bland. The tastiest food was the satay sauce. This restaurant was a waste of money and we will not be going back.

The food is amazing, not very spicy (if you like that). Very friendly staff. The ambiance is also perfect though can be noisy. I definitely recommend the place. It was a very pleasant experience.

Have visited twice and been thoroughly impressed with the friendly service and great quality food both times. The ambience is also perfect, I love the faux candles on the table and the fairy lights outside. We both enjoyed the mixed entrees and roti with satay sauce. I had a delicious chicken Pad See Ew both times, lovely big portions. Partner had something with prawns and squid and was charged $7 extra for the seafood, which we thought was a bit much considering he probably got 7 pieces of seafood. However we highly rate this place and will return again and again. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

We found love in middle Of somewhere
We went to visit winery around yarra valley . We decide to go for Asian after long drive and many wine tasting need something to spicy up . We found Saam Saii had a pretty score on Zomato so we just drop in without booking. The restaurant are very pax and busy on Sat night but staffs are friendly and warmly greeting us and try to find table for us .
Since we never been and have no idea what is popular so the Paul who is the manger there suggested us to get the banquet set. Paul was so nice to allow us to swap some food item in banquet set since two of us don't eat beef . We had for just only $32 per person but come with magnificent entree and superb main meal . Just a perfect hot and spice as we need. I can say it's not a 100% authentic as in Thai but we are 100% satisfied with food and service. We will come back !!

Short version: We all enjoyed our meals I would definitely recommend eating here. It was a very pleasant experience.

Full review:
Tucked amongst the trees on Jumping Creek Road, I had no idea that I was driving past a Thai Restaurant every day on my way to work! A hidden secret! The staff are Thai people, so that's a pretty sure sign that you're going to get authentic Thai food.

The decor has changed since Zomato took their photos. They now have busy wallpaper and portraits of Thai royalty. It gives a good atmosphere. It's a bit irritatingly noisy when people scrape their chairs on the wooden floors though. The pink and purple cloth tablecloths look great and they are covered with white paper tablecovers, which doesn't feel the greatest, but I'm sure it makes cleaning easier!

The service was very good and friendly and we had no mistakes with the order. I asked for my dish to not have capsicum in it and they offered for me to choose a different vegetable instead, so I chose zucchini and they met my wishes.

My meal was No. 25 - chicken, vegetables, cashew nuts and sweet chilli sauce. It tasted nice, was mildly spicy and had a sweet taste. One friend had No.26 - Hawker's style, and she found that it was quite spicy and made her lips tingle. Another friend had No. 27 - Chicken with ginger and garlic; it was not spicy at all, and another friend had No. 40 the green curry with chicken, and she enjoyed it.

The prices have gone up by about $3 since the menus on Zomato were posted, but it is still good value for money.

Have been looking for a good Thai restaurant reasonably close to home, and am super happy to have stumbled on to Saam Saii. Have been there twice now, and loved the food both times.

The restaurant has some funky colored lighting out the front, and inside have a purple theme - which happens to be a fave color of mine. In the times we have been, we have tried the curry puffs, chicken spring rolls, roti, beef pad see ewe, and a special pork dish. All the food has been tasty, fresh, and filling. Am looking forward to our next visit here.

I like this restaurant, but somehow they always manage to mess up an order, order beef get chicken, ask for less chilli, get more chilli. But their roti is truly amazing and I love their dishes. They also seem to always be understaffed on busy Friday and Saturday nights but they are always very friendly!

A hidden gem. Tucked away is one of Melbourne's most divine Thai restaurants. The food is amazing, along with the cheery staff. Whether it is for a romantic dinner or family outing, this place is never short of wonderful tastes and flavours. Highly recommend!

Pretty ordinary. Very disappointed to go for dinner and to be subjected to tables covered with paper table cloths, well from there the food was average at best ,maybe thats why there weren't so many people there on a Sat nite, lift your game you can do better

Great Thai Food every time.. I have been to this restaurant many times over the last 12 months. The food has been very good to excellent every time. My partner and I usually start with satay chicken (4 small sticks) which are delicious, and then share a main course and rice (neither of us are big eaters) and sometimes banana fritters for sweets. We have tried most things on the menu and have been always happy. The owner, who is lovely, also waits on the tables and is very happy to modify most dishes if there are food allergies - and this is easy because they cook mostly from fresh every time. We have also been there with friends and they loved it too. The food is not expensive and the serves are a reasonable size. Never had any trouble asking for more dipping sauce or a bowl of steamed veges. The wine list, though not large has a good variety to choose from. They also make coffee too. This is not a busy restaurant though it should be. Thoroughly recommend it.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Had a wonderful night at Saam Saii last night to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. We had a table for 18 people and were looked after very well - the food was amazing and very fresh. Thanks to Ming and all the staff who were so friendly and obliging. Look forward to visiting again.

Voucher value for money. I purchased the online voucher $69 for 4 people .
staffs are very friendly and service are awesome . we have been treated same as full price customer
but I found out our food are a bit smaller portion than full price customer then I asked the staff , staff said we got smaller portion but more variety of foods as 4 entrees, 4 soups,4 mains and 4desserts so the chef prepare in smaller portion for perfect amount till last desserts have been served . Fair enough !

Very disappointing. Small serves of very average food!. We had been to this restaurant a couple of times but not for over a year or so and thoroughly enjoyed the food so when we saw the vouchers advertised on Deals we were very happy to buy 2. We went a couple of weeks ago with 2 friends and first impressions were not good as who likes eating off white paper tablecloths when they go to a restaurant? The place was nearly full and was extremely noisy. It took an hour for the entree to arrive as they said they were very busy with takeaways. The food was average but there was just enough for the 4 of us and we thought it was acceptable considering we had a voucher.
Last night we returned on our second voucher again dining with 2 others. This time the place was only one third full on a Saturday night. Again the paper table cloths but at least it was not noisy due to the lack of patrons. We had the same menu as the previous time so knew what to expect. Two wantons and small spring roll for entree were okay. The Tom Jurd Soup was full of vegetables but was very bland. Then we had the four shared mains. The bbq marinated chicken was okay but there were 2 tiny slices of chicken each, barely a mouthful. The chicken stir fry had 4 tiny slices of chicken in the whole dish and the beef stir fry had about 2 pieces of beef per person. Both lacked any real flavour. The green chicken curry was so hot it was almost inedible! Then came the sundae. This consisted of a small scoop of ice-cream with a dollop of cream and some chocolate topping in a drinking glass.
The servings were all so small and lacking in taste that everyone wanted to go to Maccas on the way home! I thought the purpose of a voucher was to give a different restaurant a try with the view to getting you to return. Needless to say we will not be returning to this restaurant again and will be telling everyone about our experience!

Never been disappointed. Have been going here for a while now and always brilliant, never had a bad meal. Love Thai food and some of the best I have had.

Disappointed! Extreme noise levels destroyed any hope of conversation. Average food only.. We had high expectations of a local restaurant. Admittedly we had a DEALS voucher which may have been part of the problem. After 3 tiny spring rolls and 3 tasteless wantons between us followed by a similarly tasteless vegetable Tom Jurd soup we waited over an hour for the unimpressive two 'mains' - stir frys which we could have easily knocked up in a few minutes at home. The waitress explained that they had been very busy serving take-aways, hence the incredibly slow service. Apart from that the noise level from other tables was such that trying to converse with each other across our table was rendered almost impossible. I'm afraid that we are not part of the 89% satisfied customers who "raved about fantastic food and service". We will not return.

Great fresh food. We went recently with a voucher. The food was fresh and had great flavours. Some of the better Thai that I have had over the years. The food was great value, even without the voucher. We will definitely come back. The only negative was that we were right next to a large, loud table. Not much the staff could do about it though

Delicious authentic thai food!. Spring rolls where delicious and main meals prepared to perfection

Unbelievable food. Enjoyed a fantastic banquet here with my wife who normally isn't a fan of thai or banquets, she absolutely loved it as did I

A bit dodgy. Food was alright but they wouldn't accept our $50 voucher and made us pay full price. The voucher was within expiry and clearly stated its value of $50. Seemed dodgy to me. Wouldn't return.

Fantastic food. VERY noisy.

Great Duck Curry. This place has a great ambiance. It is nicely decorated, the tables generous in size, and when the main folding doors are open on a balmy summer night, a great semi alfresco place to eat.

I was initially a little unsure how I would cope with the Celine Dion CD playing in the background (I am not a fan! - At all !!!), but shortly after arrival, the "Warbling Diva" was replaced by another far less irritating artist.

We had 3 entree's and 3 mains. The entrees were Satay, Fish Cakes and Chicken Won-Tons. These were all nicely prepared, presented and quite tasty.

For mains we had a Duck Curry, which was absolutely fantastic, Pork in Tamarind, very nice too, and a Calamari in Garlic Pepper. The Calamari was probably the least exciting, and a tad overcooked, however on balance the food was quite good.

The service was fantastic, and the owners very engaging.

This place is definitely worth a visit if you are around this way.
Love Food

Awesome Thai. I have had alot of Good Reviews from people I work with in regard to this Restaurant.

So I thought I would give it a go with 6 other friends who incidentally we meet regularly every 2 months for a dinner somewhere!

**Well the night turned out to be one of the best thai foods we have eaten in years! The Roti Bread was soft and tasty. The Peanut Satay Sauce was so excellent. The dishes that really hit our 7 palette's were the crispy fried pork, prawn pad thai, roti bread and green curry chicken. OMG and the pear with sticky date pudding for dessert did not disappoint! Treat yourself.
Go here! Yum as!

Saam Saii is a good restaurant, but not a great one compared to others I've tried. Having said that it was quite pleasant with the entrees being the standout dishes of the night. Expect to pay, on average about $18-20 per dish & $4 corkage pb. Recommended
