Review St Claude's - Woollahra

Had a wonderful dinner for two. The food was beautiful. The double baked soufflé was a great starter and the duck confit melted in the mouth. The dessert of homemade vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce with almonds topped off the meal

Food: 5/10, Service 5/10. My flank steak, cooked medium rare as ordered, was excellent, as was my Gruyere souffle starter. However, my wife was very disappointed with her Barramundi, in place of the yellow-fin tuna which was off the menu. It was very fishy and almost inedible. So, food score 5/10. When the waiter asked how the meal was, she told him this politely. He expressed surprise and disappointment at hearing this, and thanked her profusely for the honest feedback, saying that most diners will eat a disappointing meal without saying anything, which makes it difficult for the staff to gauge how well they are doing. Unfortunately, his gratitude didn't extend to offering her another alternative, or not charging for the almost inedible dish. Also, while the staff were very pleasant and congenial to deal with, almost everything we ordered had to be followed up again 2 or 3 times before it finally arrived, which ended up being more than a little aggravating. So, service score 5/10.

Great food, friendly service and excellent wine list. We eat out most weekends and last night we tried St Claudes. This place is a must try for anyone who appreciates good food and wine in an intimate and relaxed venue. The staff are attentive and welcoming, and the menu is diverse and attractive (there’s something for everyone). My partner had the King fish and I had the eye fillet steak. The steak was amazing – best I’ve had in a long time. We also had entrees and desert and each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. I’m looking forward to working our way through the entire menu (and parts of the wine list).

Absolutely superbe! Fantastic from start to finish. All dishes took me back to France and as well as the cosy bistro atmosphere. The attentive and humble service from Oliver topped it all off. I cannot wait to bring everyone I know here, well those who deserve to experience and will appreciate such a wonderful gem. This place would suit all types and occassions from super romatic dates to business dinners and special occassions. Thank you for a superb evening!

AMAZING! Beautiful food and lovely very attentive service. Souffle is a must try! They also have very interesting specials on. One of the best restaurants in Sydney by far! Cant' wait to visit again.

It was definitely okay. A combination of 3 people gave it 7 out of 10. The thing is, it is nothing special. The service was good and then erratic once busy. We love the fact that it's byo wine, the food was more than acceptable but not a reason to return.

OK service. But... 1. If one waiter suggests oysters and 3 minutes later you try to order them they’re off; you get annoyed. 2. My mussels were insanely salty. They tasted like they were served in sea water. If it wasn’t for the company and wine (both of which I brought with me), I’d be giving 1 star.

St Claude’s is an unpretentious minuscule restaurant on Oxford Street which served as a training ground for many of the industry’s renowned chefs. The unassuming institution includes a herb garden at the back of the shophouse and dual-linen tables at the front bar.

I began my evening with a twice baked gruyere soufflé. Gruyere is a solid block of yellow cheese which is innately sweet but marginally savoury. The gruyere soufflé, a baked egg based dish, was nutty and distinct without being too overpowering. However, one unmistakable characteristic of bad soufflés is a cold or chilly interior juxtaposing a hot, crispy exterior. St Claude’s soufflé was unremarkably and unceremoniously baked in the manner.

Th confit duck leg was equally disappointing. The duck leg was traditionally fry in fat until they were crispy. However, the salt-cured duck leg was excessively fried until it was dark brown and charred. The meat had also lost its moisture and tenderness, leaving traces of succulence.

We went to dinner on a Sat night, 2 weeks after a month in Europe. Our entree's, mains and dessert were out of this world. The flavors and delicacy of each dish was outstanding. The service was great as was the atmosphere.

We can only give accolades to this restaurant and will make sure we are back with friends and family soon.

We need more places like this in Sydney.

This cute French bistro on Oxford near Queen St. is one to reserve for a special occasion. Entrees are flat price at $20 and mains $35. We tried cheese soufflé and pork belly for entree and the duck and barramundi for main - all were full of flavours and of freshness of the ingredients. Only downside was that the dishes were quite salty. Staff are very friendly and the interior very luxury and cozy.
