Operating a cafe menu at the moment due to Covid restricting the numbers of people in the restaurant but the food and service was great and I definitely highly recommend a visit - just make sure you book or you may miss out.
I had the duck parfait which was super smooth and tasty followed by the gnocchi which were perfect little pillows, light and delicious. I chose the pesto sauce and was not disappointed, a vibrant fresh sauce that worked very well with the gnocchi. Topped this off with a couple of glasses of De Bortoli wine, a view out onto the vineyard and it was the perfect lunch and great way to get back into eating out after lockdown.

Lunch on a hot January week day. Efficient service and beautiful setting. Particularly enjoyed the chicken liver parfait and the stunning homemade bread, but a little underwhelmed by the pasta and duck ragu. Pleasant meal but not amazing.
I have been trying to get here for years and thankfully it lived up to expectations. It is always a good start to get a quality wine with your meal for a reasonable price. The staff were knowledgeable and were warm and engaging. The food was fresh and delicious. You could never say the food lacked flavour. I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the cost considering the quality and quantity of the food. I am not a wine expert and was also pleased at the attitude of the staff at the cellar door. They were friendly and and informative and just plain fun to deal with. I have to find a reason to get back soon.
Had the tasting plate to start with and then the Wagyu beef short ribs fettuccine and both were amazing with their Pinot noir.
I would definitely go back for the short rib fettuccine!
At first it seems like an unassuming menu with simple dishes. However, the food is so exceptionally cooked, it transports you to another world. Their bread is quite possibly the best I've ever had and their duck leg ravioli was absolutely exquisite. Mains are approximately $30, but the quality is up there with many Michelin starred restaurants that charge much more. The ambience was fairly good, it felt quite homely and secluded - but perhaps not as lovely as other Australian wineries and pales in comparison to those in Napa Valley or France/Italy. Their wines were quite good and fairly priced but nothing to write home about. Overall, I would highly recommend that you try this place once.
One of the better meals I've had in the Yarra Valley. Nice antipasta plate and excellent arrancini. Had the duck which was really tasty. the crab/seafood pasta was tasty, but was too wet and a little overcooked. Coffee was nice here also.
The food here is delicious and well-presented. Service was excellent. The ambience is a little dated but old school Italian. We had a 3 course meal each and were stuffed. The food was rich and hearty. A nice place to come and have a leisurely lunch over wine.

This really is the epitome of Lux dining in the Yarra valley.
We did the wine testing in the cellar bar before our lunch which was a fun and interactive experience. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and quaint and the staff were very personable and accommodating.
The second time I have eaten here and the produce is evidently locally source and has been consistently fresh. I ordered the Ragu pasta which I was happy with. My partner wasn’t overly impressed with the pork - I.e it wasn’t anything special considering the price. In terms of the dessert platter, this was a bit of fun but again have definitely had better. Remember this place is about the overall experience, not just the food. Based on food alone I would score 3.5. But the grounds and overall experience crank it up notch.
I will add, it is quite the hit with the older crowd (apparently they market on 3AW?), so great place to take mum or nan for their birthday. But def not your scene if you’re looking for a relaxed and trendy venue for your boisterous, hipster friends.
We chose this using Zomato reviews and it lives up to the hype. We went for lunch which was a good move because we got to enjoy the view as well as the food. We shared some entrees including the most divine parfait and the antipasto share plate with some hits (arancini and terrine) and misses (frittata). Most of us had the duck for main which was delicious. Dessert was another high, I had the trio of gelato and am still raving about the lemon curd sorbet. The pannacotta and zucotto were lovely too. The service enhanced the experience as our waitress was very helpful and accommodating. The one negative was the greeting experience, we were hovering at the door a little too long before being acknowledged (several servers walked past studiously avoiding eye contact), but got over it quickly once we were seated
Around an hour from Melbourne CBD, and it did not fail to impress me and my guests. Being here on a lovely day is a treat. The staff was spot on to our liking with the Riesling A7 to match with the cheese plater and bread. The service was quick and tables were pre-prepared ready. I will be back have a more full on meal/dinner experience. I was glad I took my camera with me this time on the day!
If you are in the area and wish to enjoy a bit of the "Atasness" or "Poshy"...here is the place. I feel a tad richer just sitting in this beautiful and relaxing place waiting for my food. Extra 0.5 for this absolutely chilex environment. We ordered the kid's burramandi and chips...beautifully cooked. The quail goes so well with the summer salad it came with. The pasta..cooked in a prawn broth ..a bit too rich on my side but for people who love prawns, go for it. For me a well cooked meal, needs to let every ingredients "sing" when pop in my mouth. The pasta is so intensified with prawn, I can't "hear" any of the other ingredients. The sparkling wine there...hmmmm. No word needed, make sure you try them if you love your sparkling.

For this restaurant, it's better to book in advance as it's popular for both normal dining and special events.
It has nice view, nice atmosphere, nice setting, attentive service. Thumbs up.
Food wise, there're probably some room for improvement. Here are what we had ....
Starter
Bread & olive oil are complementary. It would be great if the bread is warm.
Entree
We were recommended to order the entree platter to share. The baccala croquette is nice - the inside is soft & creamy, the outside is thin & crispy.
Main
The squid ink pasta taste great - rich.
The favour of duck pasta is average, the wrap was a bit hard, felt like it's been frozen not freshly made.
The John Dory fish & side salad are great, although always want more.
Overall the portion a bit small, it would be great if there're entree & main size for customer to choose from.
Side dish
We had chips & vegie, it's hard to go wrong. Portion is normal.
Dessert
We haven't try the dessert this time, the menu doesn't have much special dessert choice that looks attractive to us.
We only have a cup of coffee to finish up, as usual, can't expect too much from a winery as it's not a professional coffee shop.
Overall it's satisfying experience, wish to come back next time with greater food

De bortoli is one of the good rate restaurant and winery around Yarra valley
However advise from my personal experience, try to make a booking if you going there over the weekend, so that you will get table easily. And please note I went there on sept 2017, they mention menu changing every month. So u might not seeing some of my food pic on the menu
We got 9 people there, they are quite nice place and specious space restaurant and some window seat are looking out of the winery farm
What we order:
Entree : platter to share (arachini, sliced salami, slice sashimi, tangerine, olive)
Main : some of my friend order lamb rack (a bit disappointed as come really quite small portion, as I do understand of some fine dinning area do serve small portion, but de bortoli not a really fine dining restaurant)
Squid ink fusilli, spanner crab, Cobia, chilli, zhucinni, garlic (really good, for those u love strong smell seafood, will be perfect)
Pork belly (for those who a bit hungry, compare with the lamb rack, pork belly turn out slightly bigger portion then lamb)
Fettuccine Wagyu beef cheek, (unfortunately taste way too sweet, I think because of beef cheek, they slow cooked the meat until tender, however they shredded it)
Overall worth to try since they change the menu every month, and they have quite nice wine
For their winery, not for free for the winery tasting, you need to purchase the wine then they free charge, but I could be wrong, please check and ask again for the term and condition.
And remember this taste are according to all my friend and including myself, everyone does have different expectation, so you might like it or u might agreed with me
Spent the day in Yarra Valley and stopped at De Bortoli Winery for lunch. The service was friendly and attentative, and seemed to have good knowledge of the wine list. I ordered the wagyu beef fettuccine, great choice! It had a sweetness from the onion which complimented the saltiness of the Parmesan cheese and slow cooked wagyu. Pinot Noir can't fault. Overall great experience
We had booking on Monday lunch and got there a little later but wanted to go to the cellar door to try some wine first.
Staff kindly guided us towards stairs and we enjoyed many of them for hours! Realised kitchen's closing time, quickly go upstairs with 2 boxes of delicious wine and wonderful staff welcomed us.
We had creamy tender fresh prosciutto with thin grissini, beautiful olive oil and balsamic with Pene di Casa bread for entree. For main, we had agnolotti, spaghetti pesto and zusilli. They were all excellent dishes pair with delicious Shiraz 2014. Italian chef, an Italian wine seller and gourmands had such a wonderful time.

Nice food but not that special. Service was a let down and we were nearly overcharged. Check your bill carefully and don't assume the set menus are cheaper. The mid-week deal is only worth it if you order mains and not pastas. When we got the bill, the pastas were included in the set and not the mains, so we would have paid about $20 extra had we not realised. Note that the people eating pasta did not order desserts, so I can't see how this mix up occurred.
FOOD: not bad by any means but for the price it was disappointing. We ordered the pork belly, ragu gnocchi and squid ink fusilli. Both pastas were good but a little bland. The pork belly was nice but a bit dry without the jus. Everything was missing that little extra special component.
SERVICE: We arrived for an afternoon booking after trying to book that morning but the 12pm session was full. Waited at the front counter for a while before we were even acknowledged. With only three floor staff working, service was sporadic. Often only half the table would be cleared or only half the glasses filled up. For what is supposed to be fine dining, the service was not up to standard.
We noticed that tables were staying for a very long time with some people still sitting as we were leaving despite being there when we entered. The restaurant should have a separate area for those who want to sit and nurse wine so people can eat in the restaurant.
Lovely winery in the Yarra Valley. Service is was pleasant and the food was great quality. To start we were served a generous basket of warm potato and rosemary focaccia which was delicious. We then opted to shared a serving of the pea and prosciutto arrancini. The arrancini were nice and crispy but could have had more of the pea and prosciutto in the filling. For main I ordered the herb crusted Hapuka win Jerusalem artichokes, kale and natsurium sauce. The fish was very well cooked and I really enjoyed the combination of flavours. We also shared a side of green beans which added a fresh element.
I have such vivid memories of De Bortoli. It's one of the most picturesque wineries in the Yarra Valley. Location location location sets the scene for a delicious lunch in the most enchanting of surrounds. Locally sourced fresh and quality ingredients result in a memorable meal and there's a lovely sense of history that comes with the vineyard being run by the grandchildren of Vittorio, De Bortoli's founder in 1928 some 80 years ago. I think it's really beautiful to pass such a place down through three generations and there's a real sense of that love and Italian heritage emanating though the menu. It's also one of few wineries in the region that allow you to order a la carte instead of having to commit to a set three course menu. And having said that it's quite reasonably priced too and not at all pretentious like winery restaurants can often be. Exceptional food and ambiance and wine tasting abound, you couldn't ask for more.
This place is beautiful and the food is top quality. Obviously the selection of wines is exceptional and the service is also exactly what you'd expect. They have a room too which would be good for a big group booking. The grounds are beautiful and on a nice day you won't be disappointed. They also have a cellar and cheese shop on site which is amazing!

Went here for lunch after visiting a few wineries. Just amazing. Every meals we had including the bread was the best. Food was abit slow coming out but given how busy it was that's understandable. the manager came and kept us up to date which was nice. Will definitely come again and highly recommend. Worth the drive.
We booked a private room at De Bortoli for my Mum's 60th party. There was 17 of us and we had a lovely day. The staff were incredibly helpful organizing the day and the food on the day was delicious. Far better value than a lot of other places in the area and much more freedom to order what we wanted rather than stick to set menus and price minimums. Would definitely have another function here!
The food is amazing and the produce they use is so fresh. It just tastes hearty and the wines make the perfect accompaniment! The cheese platter is to die for! A must visit when you are next in the Yarra Valley!
Held my father's 70 birthday dinner here recently, and just wanted to thank Tony, Lisa, Sharlene, and the staff that were working on the night-for all their help in the lead up! An absolutely wonderful team that put up with all the complications I created and helped me run a smooth ship the whole night, right up till the very end. So glad we chose this winery; the food is amazing, the wine list is long and the scenery is just perfect for mid-summer celebrations. Could not have asked for a better experience!
Came here for our anniversary and the food was amazing! Well served 3 courses and loved my vegetarian options. Wine tasting was a tad disappointing being them being busy on a sunday!
Located in the Yarra Glen area, we enjoyed a nice drive from Melbourne to dine at this restaurant. The entrees and pasta dishes were amazing. One of the best Italian food I have had in Melbourne and it was also reasonably priced. Would highly recommend this place if you are in the area. Can't wait to go back to try the other dishes.
Had New Year's Eve Lunch there. Had oysters two ways, Duck Liver Parfait & Beef Tenderloin for entries. The parfait is absolutely a star on the menu. Mom had the Scotch Fillet & I had the Fusilli (squid ink). The method of cooking is so unique. Love~Love the food & wines. Friendly staff~ Highly recommended & Will definitely go again soon.
Had a beautiful lunch on New Years Day. Duck liver entree was lovely, salmon spaghetti was very nice too! Had a bottle of Pinot noir which was smooth and sensational. Service was great too! Thanks so much for the great experience.
Delicious dinner here with my partner. Lovely service and warm atmosphere. We had a beautiful duck breast risotto and prefect melt in your mouth lamb and also some delicious peach Bellinis. Highly recommended!
A wonderful lunch last Friday. My partner said "best ever" and she has been everywhere. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection. My Rum Baba was not quite what I am used to but delightful nevertheless. As always the Shiraz accompanying the mains was excellent so I bought a box of 6 to take home.
We enjoyed a very yum long lunch here on a Saturday. The pasta dishes were a standout, especially the squid ink pasta. Starters and entrees were also very good...oysters, pate, antipasto. Service in general was good although it slowed down a lot once they got busy. We also visited the cellar door for some wine tasting, they have a good range of reds, whites and fortifieds. The surrounding gardens and views are perfect if you want to laze around under the shade.
This Italian restaurant is set within a spectacular winery. I can just sit there all day to look out of that view; mountains, landscape, garden, lake... Great service. Exceptional Italian food at really good price and generous serving size. It was a faultless experience.
good service and decent food. the fusilli squid ink pasta was delicious and the gnocchi sauce was flavoursome but the gnocchi was too soft/overcooked but still edible. my friends who ordered steak or fish thought the pastas were better. for sharing dishes i recommend the carpaccio and the olives and the asparagus. it's a lovely restaurant with beautiful vineyard surroundings and a lovely cheese and wine cellar. service was good too
The restaurant established as part of the De Bortoli estate aptly named Locale is fabulous. The food is lovely as are the staff. Beautiful views of the vineyards from the well-appointed dining area make the experience picturesque. I couldn't fault any part of the food or drinks and advice is available if help is needed to choose a nice matching wine to your meal. Wonderful location for a family dinner or any sort of occasion.
The grounds and dining area would also be amazing for weddings or other special occasion receptions
Absolute gem in the Yarra Valley-service is warm friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Food is beautifully presented and just delicious. Do try the oysters they are shucked when ordered, the gnocchi is my favourite dish it's melt in the mouth tender and a generous serving. This place is fantastic from start to finish. The tables are nice hardwood and not too close together and the place is well decorated. The staff are fantastic, attentive without being intrusive and friendly and knowledgeable (on the food, the area, the wines and recommended other places to us). The food was great; much better than many supposedly superior restaurants I've been to but not in the superstar 2/3 hat category. My girlfriend and I had the olives and bread for starters (I'm not a fan of Mount Zero Olives but they're the local fare), then we had the Duck Tortellini and Rigatoni al Ragu for entrées, the Slow roast lamb shoulder and Gnocchi con Ragu di Matale and spring vegetables for mains and the Milk Chocolate Pannacotta for dessert. Yes, I had pasta for entree and main like a heathen but I knew they'd be really good - I was right. The Duck Tortellini, Slow roast shoulder and Pannacotta were excellent but everything was very tasty, in good portions and well presented. The drinks were reasonably priced - a bottle of wine is a cheap as $30 or $8 - $10 per glass and mixed drinks for $8 is very reasonable. I highly recommend going there.
Started with the arancini balls. Entrèes were buffalo mózzarella and rabbit ragú fettacine. Mains were the pork shoulder gnocchi and kingfish . Unfortunately the kingfish itself didn't taste fresh and was quite tough. The rest of the food and wine was spectacular. Flawless service. Would recommend !
We absolutely love everything about our first experience from the complimentary bread until dessert, all yummy!! We came on Monday during lunch time, upon arrival there were hardly anyone there but the place picked up within the next 30 minutes! We ordered croquette for starter, lamb shoulder & spaghettini as main, and milk chocolate panna cotta as dessert all for under $100 including a bottle of wine to go. We'll be back for more!

Probably the best experience I have had at a boutique winery. We were a party of 8 for lunch, celebrating a birthday on a winery tour in the Yarra Valley. Service was friendly, efficient and knew their stuff. There was a range of dishes, standouts in my opinion were the veal ragout, roast lamb shoulder and duck tortellini. This was our second lunch experience here, thoroughly recommend it for a special occasion - get dressed because you'll be impressed!

I took my mum here for lunch, I have always wanted to dine at De Bortoli's, having heard so many good things about it. And I wasn't disappointed! A very classy, elegant restaurant (with outdoor dining too) that doesn't feel formal or stuffy. Loved the background music, which included David Bowie, fab. Staff were friendly, helpful and very attentive.I was most impressed that prior to receiving our meal, we were given slices of freshly baked breads with accompanying olive oil, the bread was divine. My main was pasta (long and wiggly!) with duck, it was very nice, and my mum enjoyed her gnocchi, accompanied by a side dish of spring vegetables. We also enjoyed a 'flight' of wines (3 wines per flight), where you could select reds, whites or a combination. We couldn't go past dessert and shared Cannoli (ricotta and candied orange-filled cannoli, chestnut cream, dark chocolate, rhubarb, coffee icecream) and Pannacotta (milk chocolate panacotta, marshmallow, shortbread, banana and rum gelato). We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the fact we were able to use our Entertainment Book voucher was an added bonus. A beautiful winery and restaurant in a beautiful setting, perfect for a special meal with friends or family.
My partner and I visited the restaurant for a Saturday lunch. We had luckily booked earlier in the week as they were totally booked. We sat at the front of the restaurant. If you can, ask to sit further towards the back as then you get a nice view of the vineyard.
All staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was really nice. We started with the saffron arancini and tomatoe salad.
For Mains we got the gnocchi and fusilli. Both were really nice but the gnocchi was a little over cooked.
For dessert we shared the lemon tart which was delicious!!!!!!!!!
We had the Pinot Gris which complimented the food really well.
Overall very happy with the food and service and definitely worth a visit if your in the Yarra valley.

Sunday lunch dining does not get better than this, with great food, wine and scenery. Pastas on the menu are a certain hit - simple and fresh ingredients are expertly used to create elegant Italian flavours. Just make sure to save room for wine and cheese tasting afterwards at the cellar , which offers a superb drop.
Tried:
* Pappardelle Verde - fresh green beans, zucchini and generous drizzling of olive oil results in a pasta that's light on the palate yet pleasing on taste.
* Tagliolini al Nero - homemade squid ink pasta with heaps of tender cuttlefish, spanner crab and fresh aromas of garlic and tomatoes.

Not a massive deal just half a point lost for me because the glasses and cutlery still had some left over fluff from the tea towels. And some cutlery still had dirty water stains obviously from them not being dried properly. Will Def be back.
If you're visiting Yarra Valley, this should be on your list of wineries to try out. For a fee of $5 which is refundable upon purchase of any wine bottle, the experience is like no other. The courteous wine experts take you through the list of their best wines - sparklings to whites, reds to dessert wines. It's best experienced with the recommended platter of cheese and crackers !
Yum, yum, yum... Amazingly cooked food, delicious generous platters of food and fantastic wines, what more could you as for? The platter we had was extremely well balanced with all the different flavours of each of the individual items, and it was just enough to get you excited for the mains and desert. We were lucky enough to get a window seat overlooking the beautiful surroundings that Yara Glen has to offer, it really does make for an amazing afternoon :) We'll definitely come back again

New menu and decided to come to give it a another try. All new dishes and more refined menu. Still good but too few main to choose from. Missed the chartucherie board and duck for the main. Nevertheless food quality is maintained.
Saffron Arancini
Breaded saffron stained cheese ball. Good crunch and a soft inside. Delicious way to start the meal.
Duck Terrine
Cold duck dish was well paired with a thin layer of ham at the bottom of the duck. Mustard was good condiment to go with and pickled veg was there to neutralize the creaminess of the dish.
Gnocchi with pork ragu.
Tender pork with potato pillows. Delicious. Gnocchi was not doughy and well paired with the flavors of the ragu. Simple and delicious.
Squid ink pasta
Pasta was cooked to al dente. Good seasoning and was generous with the seafood.
Lamb
Star of the show. Fork tender and every ingredient on the plate came together in such harmonious way. The yogurt, the basil, the charred veg, the lamb. It was absolute at its finest. As much as I missed the old menu. This dish is definitely to look forward to.
Pannacotta
Doesn't taste like gelatin. Perfect panacotta with caramalised bananas. Well presented and delicious.
All in all. Didn't failed to make me come back in the near future. Still as good.
Wonderful food - excellent service - a wine to food matching that I have had not experienced before...you leave satisfied, but not full and drunk - just all is the perfect amount of everything. Thumbs up!!!

This is a place to visit in the Yarra valley when you can. Amazing surroundings with great views overlooking the vines. We had the arancini balls to start, rigatoni a ragù, vegetarian pasta for mains. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was good, not over bearing and the wine was good too. I'll definitely recommend this place.
Beautiful, elegant venue and attentive staff. For large group bookings, the set menu was a must. We can chose our own entree, main and dessert from the list of options which was great. It roughly cost about $65pp for 3 courses from memory not including drinks. Food was well presented, decent portion sized, fresh and delicious. I feel it's good value for $ and the winery is on premises.
I had been invited along to a spontaneous weekend escape to the Yarra Valley, with the whereabouts of the lunch date kept a close secret until arrival. The day that we set out from Melbourne was absolutely beautiful – the sun was out, the air crisp, and the skies crystal clear; a perfect day for a winery visit.
Our favourite restaurant in all of Melbourne. From the food, to the service, to the wine and the view, I can't fault the team at De Bortoli. We first went there just out of pure chance, and were treated to the most wonderful lunch. The freshly made bread and house made olive oil were sublime! Their selection of dishes were second to none. Finished off with an excellent port and cheese selection, secured us a patrons for life! We also discovered their "festival of the pig" event, which I encourage everyone to try and be apart of. Can not recommended this place highly enough!

In love with this place ! Enjoying every bit of this place! Tremendous ! The service was good and maybe because it's exam period so booking was not required to get a table. In fact, we can get a table right away on lunch time. Ordered tortellini, cannelloni, duck terrine (somehow the menu is different with the one on this platform and the cook is also different. So you might get a different menu when you visit this place). The duck terrine is our appetiser. It taste awesome which make us impatient for the main dish. Our main dish were tortellini and cannelloni. The smell of the cheese on the tortellini dish is very strong and I know the photo doesn't look appetising. However, when you eat it, wow ! It taste amazing really ! For the cannelloni, it also taste very good ! Furthermore, not ever restaurant have this dish on their pasta menu. So yeah ! It gives the extra excitement to eat this dish. Everything was perfect to enjoy a fine meal in a winery with a very classy ambience. Sadly, I was driving that day, couldn't complete my whole experience with a glass of wine. But I do love to visit this place again for their wonderful meal. Hope you guys could get a wonderful experience like I do ! Enjoy your meal ! 😊🎉

Came here because of the high reviews, and was not disappointed. Gnocchi was soft, fluffy and delicious and the pork shoulder ragu was wonderfully flavorful. The bread was the best we've had in any restaurant, incl high end CBD eateries. The Cobia main was cooked to opaque perfection. The respect to produce and the sheer skill of the chef makes it a Must if you're driving through.
Lunch with family, nice and relaxing atmosphere. Seated near window with vineyard view, lovely! Oysters are so fresh and is a must try! Jamon Trevelez is beautiful! Pasta are freshly made and my dad had lamb which tastes really nice as well. The zeppole with coffee is a great dessert to finish off the meal. Service is great as well, the waiter explained the menu really well , will definitely come back again!
The initial plan for last weekend was for a good hike around Dandenong ranges followed by a good cup of tea with a side of scones. Sadly, lethargy and procastination got the better of me and before I knew it, the plan revolved to visiting the Yarra valley. Would have liked to do a tour of the valley but that may have to wait for now. After doing a bit of tasting at De Bortoli's cellar door (the best dessert wines I have tasted thus far), we were fortunate that a few cancellations happened that day which led us to dining at their restaurant.
Lovely place - great food and service was also good. Wines were a stand out and the tasting was great. Able to match our meal with an accompanying wine.

Lunch with Stephanie Alexander at Locale Restaurant at De Bortoli was a sweet invitation; dining with culinary royalty at a premium Yarra Valley winery. We arrived at De Bortoli in the charming Yarra Valley to be greeted by Leanne De Bortoli (Manager of Vineyard and Restaurant) and Stephen Webber (husband and Chief Winemaker/Manager), with a glass of newly launched De Bortoli Prosecco. Is there a more agreeable place on the planet than the Yarra Valley on a sunny day? And the estate at De Bortoli is looking magnificent.
De Bortoli has the right mix. Good food, Good wine, Good service and reasonably priced. Consistency is the key. Been a few times and recommend it.
I have been a big fan of Stephanie Alexander since I can remember. Her famous cookbook, “The Cook’s Companion”, has been like a food bible to me over the years, and always manages to delight with its delicious recipes. But what I have admired the most about Stephanie recently is her groundbreaking work in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation, a not for profit organisation dedicated to helping children adopt healthy food choices and introduce kitchen gardens into primary schools.

My wife and I decided to drive out to Yarra Valley for wine tasting. We picked De Bartoli at random. It really is a picturesque venue. Wine was very drinkable. I especially enjoyed a Syrah that has hints of pepper linger on your mouth. It accompanied the quail terrine starter and lamb shoulder main perfectly. The food was lovely. Meat was cooked perfectly, and my wife's quail risotto was beautiful. Service provided was friendly and efficient.
We really enjoyed our evening at De Bortoli. My parents live in North East Victoria and my partner and I are in the CBD, so this was a perfect half way point. The dining room was cosy, tables roomy and well-spaced, and while there was a pleasant hum of people enjoying themselves we could comfortably hear each other. The service was impeccable - truly outstanding - and the food was delightful. We'll definitely be back.
De Bortoli Locale Restaurant is part of the well established De Bortoli Wines which was founded in 1928 by Vittorio De Bortoli. The winery has been under the care of the De Bortoli family for three generation with Vittorio’s grandchildren Darren, Leanne, Kevin and Victor currently holding the reins.
Food delicious, service super friendly. Entree, pork ragout gnocchi, can recommend. Mains, lamb, duck, yum. Wines to accompany and sweeeeet deserts.
Lovely service. Great food. Been a long time between meals here but it's still a great night out.

I was lucky enough to spend this Sunday afternoon in the beautiful Yarra Valley, enjoying the Sunday lunch at De Bortoli Winery. A mild summer has seen the surrounds maintain picture-perfect shades of green, and the blue sky and Yarra Ranges National Park in the background complete the indulgent setting. The Sunday lunch option includes free wine tasting in the cellar, and cheese plates are also available for tastings from a minimal amount.
I have spent the most magical day at De Bortali Estate in the Yarra Valley. It was a mild summer's day in the most beautiful settings and it was topped off by an absolutely amazing meal at Locale. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from Locale as I had thought the place is a winery so obviously the wines would be the star attraction. But I am so pleased I was proven very wrong.
Wonderful. Went here for lunch yesterday. Have been many times and always enjoyed the food and service. Better than ever.
What a beautiful place, good food good wine and great service makes for a lovely day out in the yarra valley.

Excellent lunch. My Mum and I had lunch at Locale Restaurant within De Bortoli winery today. From the minute we walked through the door to the minute we left we couldn't fault the professionalism, the food, the service and the lovely restaurant. What we noticed first off was the warm welcome and the smiles from all staff even those that weren't serving us. It showed they truely loved their jobs.
The food we ordered was delicious and starting of the with the 2 courses or $55 each we felt the food was ample but decided in the end to share a dessert which made one of our charges come to $68 for a 3 course. We shared the antipasta plate which was delicious with a lot of variety. I order the John Dory for main and my Mum the duck. All cooked to perfection and if I had any slight negative comment to make it was that the duck served within the pastry piece was a little too salty. Of course we happily ate it all though.
Thank you for a lovely lunch. We will return and I highly recommend if you have a special occasion.
Attended Locale for a baptism in the function room and thoroughly enjoyed food & experience. Gnocchi served with duck ragu was delicious followed by steak which was tender ( ox tongue served with the steak was interesting and worth a try ). Kids were well catered for with staff prepared to adjust meals to suit their needs. Kids portion sizes were great as was quality; not your average kids meal. The playground outside with its old tractor and slides was a welcome way to let the kids release the restless tension between courses. We'll be back.
A splendid lunch for my daughter's 21s5. After some research, I chose this venue for my daughter's family 21st lunch. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Food, service, attention to detail and personal care were all exceptional. And the view from our Kinglake room was so beautiful - and we couldn't hear a whisper from the rest of the restaurant. It was like being in a private house. You could not want more.
Loved it!. Chose De Bortoli from thousands before leaving Perth. One of the best lunches we have had anywhere. Only one criticism - too much salt. Other than that - fantastic. Loved the food, the service was excellent, lovely atmosphere/view, great wine. Well worth the visit. Dessert was to-die-for. See picture.

Chef Tim Keenan (previously of River Cafe in London and Grossi Florentino) has created a very sophisticated menu. The restaurant is perched above the De Bortoli Wine Cellars, giving diners views across the vast sloping vineyards. We came here to celebrate a family member's birthday. The Sunday lunch menu was fixed but we were very happy with the chef's selection. Upon being seated we were offered a wonderful antipasti selection of mixed Italian olives, veneto salami, marinated white anchovies, parmesan biscotti and wild pine mushroom frittatas. De Bortoli Winery and Restaurant is one of my favourite wineries to visit in the Yarra Valley. Here is a great restaurant, great cheese room and excellent picnic facilities.
Came here today for my birthday and I have to say I had a marvelous time. Not sure what people were commenting about the atmosphere! It was an inviting and happy place to be with everyone I saw in the restaurant with a smile on their faces. My husband and I ordered the suckling pig and the lamb. Our food came at a good time and was absolutely delicious. The meal was extremely tasty and the meat very tender and fresh! Will be back again and again! Well done!

The management here know how to run this place. You have a little Italian man running around, making sure everything is in check, providing guidance for the young staff.
The food is fantastic, clean, fresh, local and from their garden where possible. We have been coming here for years and will continue to do so. Don't change.
Relaxing Sunday lunch. Some friends and I decided to do a trip to the Yarra Valley the other Sunday. After stopping by at the Chocolaterie and gorging ourselves with sweets (white chocolate, black chocolate, hot chocolate, chocolate dessert) for morning tea, we made our way to De Bortoli winery and restaurant.
The cellar was a little crowded but the staff made us feel welcome and motioned they would be with us shortly. The wines are lovely and I ended up purchasing a red, while my friends got a moscato.
Lunch was a short 10 second walk up the stairs and we were seated in a nice and sunny room with a view of the vineyards.
Lunch was very filling as I decided on the 3 course. The food was lovely and the waiter was engaging and attentive, but not in your face.
A must if you're visiting the Yarra Valley and I hope to return soon!
We are lunch here on a Friday and was amazing, the service was great and the food was fresh and clean, took me back to farm life and rustic charm. Strongly suggest this venue for lunch if in the area
Simply Exquisite. We have always had a wonderful day at De Bortoli, I can't recommend this fabulous Yarra Valley restaurant enough. We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary in the private room and as always the food, wine and service was impeccable. All our guests enjoyed the day, loved the menu choices and had a lovely time.
Always a joy, always awesome service to wine n dine here whenever I have overseas visitors. Last Saturday was no exception. Beautiful three courses, unfortunately no more wine pairing with each dish. From a crab risotto to gnocchi to a beautiful duckling. Every dish was tasty n well presented. With Tony who's been running the place for ... Seems like only yesterday. Can't rave enough about our experience... The bread & olive oil was to die for as was the antipasto platter. My gnocchi ragu was out of this world! Service was of top quality! Will be back again for sure!! It was a perfect Sunday! :)
Lazy long lunch. My husband and I visited De Bortoli today for lunch. The staff were welcoming and attentive and we were lucky enough to be seated near a window with a magical view of the rolling hills. I greatly enjoyed the striploin, the presentation and flavours were amazing with the meat being cooked to absolute perfection. My husband had homemade pasta with prawns in an anchovie sauce - perfect ! The Yarra Valley is a great destination for a day trip and you are spoilt by choice with some fabulous wineries however my pick is De Bortoli.
Very pleasant way to spend a Sunday. We dined at De Bortoli yesterday and enjoyed the experience. The service was good, napkins refolded when you go to the bathroom etc

The view of the vineyard as you drive up to the winery is beautiful but unfortunately you don't get that view from the restaurant. Still a nice ambiance in the restaurant though, and the cheese shop and cellar door are well worth a visit.

Simply beautiful. Have been here many times over the past 5 or more years. Always find the food to be exceptional. The service can be a bit slow but I do not really care as it is such a peaceful place to go. Also nice to go for a long day and have a cheese tasting platter which is served up in the wine tasting area below the restaurant.
Will be going back. Absolutely love this place. Lovely setting and perfect for a relaxing weekend lunch. Fresh, tasty food and pretty good value.

We celebrated my hubbies birthday with a 3 course lunch, it was delicious. Service was great too we even had personalised menus, overall a lovely dining experience with amazing views, a place noteworthy of praise.
Absolutely fantastic. Had a lazy Sunday lunch and loved everything. Though you have to go for a degustation menu, it has good value for money and don't miss out on the matching wines. A sweet ending with the Noble One is just lovely. The scallops and the beef ribs are the favorites from the current menu. Friendly service and beautiful surroundings too. The only downfall of this place is service can be deemed slow at times as you will wait at least 20 minutes or so between courses.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a 4 course lunch on Good Friday and the food/service were both magnificent. The food were fresh and very tasty. Especially my dessert which was meticously crafted. The waiters were attentive and friendly.

The food was spot on and the service was excellent. Our waitress was absolutely delightful and very attentive to our needs. The restaurant is on top of the hill overlooking the vineyards and it is very elegant and fresh and the atmosphere is very relaxed. The silver service touch makes it very special. I will certainly be back.
Couldn't be happier. Went for lunch on Saturday with a group of four and couldn't be happier with our experience. The vineyard looked glorious on a beautifully sunny day with the restaurant perched high on a hill overlooking the surrounding vines. The restaurant had a lovely ambience with an elegantly fresh feel and silver service. Our group undertook the 3 course degustation and everyone was extremely happy with their meals, the complexity of dishes was excellent for the price and it leaves you enough room to enjoy the wines. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.

This restaurant has it all: amazing food, outstanding wines, expert service and relaxing, yet opulent atmosphere. Well worth the drive.

Great for Sunday lunch. My partner and I were in the area on Sunday and decided on a last minute booking for lunch. No problems getting a table, although it was busy. There was only one option for Sunday lunch which was a 4 course $70 set menu. Slightly indulgent for Sunday lunch but well worth the money spent. All the food was fantastic. The highlights were the school prawns which were part of the antipasto starter and the 15 hour slow cooked beef for main, amazing! Staff were friendly and helpful and spaced out the courses nicely so you didn't feel rushed. Great place if you have the entertainment book too because we got a nice $40 discount at the end. All in all a lovely dining experience and would definitely go back.

Great! My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful long Sunday lunch here today. It was a set 4 course menu (Sunday). From the very fresh antipasto plate to the exquisite salmon confit, the wonderfully tender beef fillet with accompanying vegetables and finally the gorgeous panacotta, all beautifully presented, and served by a friendly but not overbearing waiter, it was a wonderful dining experience. I thought the additional $26 for matching wines, including the delightful Noble One with dessert, was very good value and added to the whole experience. We will return to De Bortolis restaurant next time we are here.
Little slice of Italy. Lucky to pick a lovely crisp but sunny day to have lunch and a stoll in this picturesque place. Food was good and of course the wine and noble dessert wine was golden drops of heaven

We went last Saturday for lunch and decided against the degustation menu, as we preferred other dishes from the a la carte menu.
For our entree we had the spaghetti with spanner crab; tasty, although we thought we could taste a bit of curry (odd for an Italian dish). Our mains were fantastic. I had the king george whiting with roast fennel and crispy lemon pangrattato which was light, yet flavoursome. My boyfriend had the costata - the dry aged & sea salt rib eye fillet - it was cooked perfectly, and the red cabbage insalata matched well. Our desert made a lovely ending to our lunch; we had the zepelli with affogato and chocolate creme with honeycomb and vanilla ice cream. Delicious!
The cheese tasting is also recommended, we were able to sample 6 different cheeses - unfortunately not made at De Bortoli.
Luckily we made a reservation, as it was fully booked. Nice atmosphere, with great views.

OK, but not as noble as Noble One. It's far from being the best cellar door in the Yarra Valley, but we liked de Bortoli's restaurant, within limits. Mainly their limited operating hours, I mean. It's primarily a lunch operation, and not even every day of the week for that. Other reviewers have commented on the stodgy decor -- it's like a giant version of your gram's house, if your grandmother lived on a station in the bush in 1920. But I liked it -- it's a pleasant throwback to the colonial days before there was a "modern Australian" style.
As far as food goes, though, de Bortoli gets more kudos from me for its cheese. Downstairs in the tasting room, they have a counter that sells a small, but quality, selection of cheeses. Not just Victorian ones, but some decent French cheeses as well. And of course, de Bortoli makes the Noble One dessert wine, which is my favourite sweet sticky. No lie -- I've drunk my share of Sauternes, Tokay and other top dessert wines, but given the choice of any of them, I'd pick de Bortoli's syrup. It was always a pleasure to go to the place where it came from.
Antipasto tastinig plate. Mostly everything is made in the DB kitchen with a lot of the produce coming from the onsite vegetable garden - perfect food to share and while away an hour or so with some great Yarra Valley wines you buy by the glass or the bottle. Then you can go downstairs to buy some wine and cheese to take home!

This restaurant has had a refurb but still looks very old fashioned (and not in a cool way). Service is pleasant and the food is generally generous and tasty. Not a benchmark restaurant in the Yarra Valley but you will enjoy it nevertheless.

Sunday lunch at De Bortoli is a set 4 course menu for $70 with wine pairings at $29 which represented excellent value so decided to indulge.
I was invited by the Grape Grazing 2014 Committee to sample some of the wine and food that will be on offer during 14-15 February 2014. The sampling was at De Bortoli Winery and Restaurant - a gorgeous property surrounded by leafy, verdant grapevines and rolling green hills.
The drive to De Bertolli was very enjoyable and part of the experience coming here. The winery, gardens and building are exquisite. The restaurant atmosphere is an authentic Italian feel.
Our waiter, Jarvis, was friendly and got the balance right for timing of service. He assisted us to match our wine to the meal with a wine tasting first. The chosen wine was delicate and lovely, matching the lightness of the dishes we chose.
As a foodie and taste consultant, I have a very sensitive sense of smell and taste. Each of the dishes were delectable, elegant and perfectly balanced and visually pleasing. The textures and visual quality made the experience exceed our expectation. The hardest part was choosing from the exceptional menu.
Compliments to the chef, Ben Levine. If you want something unique and truly beautiful come and enjoy De Bertolli. You'll be delighted as we were.

We started our afternoon after an hour drive from Melbourne by having lunch at De Bortoli Winery which is conveniently located a few mins from our accommodation. The restaurant have a set menu for 2 and 3 course where you get to choose from a selection of entree, mains, and dessert. We got the 2 course and opted for the salumi plate, kingfish, linguine, seasonal fish and finished off with the Affogato cocktail. The food was fresh and presentation was appetising. The staff and service was gold class.
After our meal we went for a stroll around the vineyard. The scenery was spectacular with grape trees going as far as the eyes can see. For souvenirs we got a couple of bottles of wine after being well looked after by Tiffany during our wine tasting. Wine tasting is affordable at $10 or $20 for the premium, you'll also get to learn about the wine making process and history from the knowledgeable staff.
Amazing winery to visit along with the beautiful scenery of vineyards. Make sure to book in a dining reservation beforehand as it can be very busy during peak hours. However, if you’re unfortunate to not have a table - head down to the store below of the restaurant and pickup some goodies to create your own picnic. If you’re lucky enough, you can even have a good game of ‘spot the wallaby’ with your mates 😄
Had a reservation for lunch and this is located above the tasting cellar. Lunch is $85 per pax for three courses. We had the pasta, grilled octopus, beef, duck and pork. Dessert was tiramisu. Good experience.
We went today for a full tasting wine and the cheeses, the wines are really good, both white and red, and I really loved the noble one, you can buy the wines you taste. We made our wine journey with Gaia who explained all the combinations to us, very kind!
Nice view from their gardens. You can stroll in between the vines.There are seating areas for picnic for a group to enjoy, don't forget buy your wine at de bortoli cellar. :)
Had an absolute blast coming out and having a meal here. Food was spot on, and the wine pairing suggested to us was absolutely superb. Loved it! (No food photos, enjoyed too much)

Went here as part of our Wine and Wildlife tour and I absolutely enjoyed our time here. Started with a wine tasting. Wines were great and food was exceptional. The view was wonderful and I would definitely recommend!
It was quite affordable too!! Definitely will come back.
