By far the best cake and dessert shop I have ever been to. The precision and perfection of their cakes is amazing to behold, and the flavour combinations are usually amazing. Plenty of competition in South Yarra, but I've not found any other cake shop that compares.
A customer for work today and as a huge fan of the desserts and the chocolate and mr Darren purchese himself .... for the 5 min I was there the hospitality was amazing such a friendly atmosphere and the most amazing friendliest staff ( Cath ) .... if your ever in south Yarra I highly recommend a visit you won’t be sorry
This is my favourite dessert place ever!!! You cannot go wrong here the desserts are so well balanced and no over powering they are amazing. It is a must have I dont have a particular favourite as they are all good and any choice you make you won't be disappointed
We had some friends bring as a B&P cake last night which was simply exceptional. The great man excels once again with his explosive raspberry milk chocolate creation and I simply couldn’t fault its deliciousness. I think the price point is reasonable given the quality.
Original review
Popped in for a Saturday faturday sweet treat and was lucky enough to meet Mr Purchese himself. B&P has grown in popularity over the years due to its association with Masterchef and is top of mind for me for dessert at an event. It's such a happy place and I'm immediately drawn to the giant fluffy meringue clouds on the counter top so I grab that as a takeaway to enjoy later and deliberate over the choice for immediate consumption. You actually can't go wrong regardless they are all absolutely scrumptious. I inhaled the chocolatey creation so quickly I didn't even get a photo! Settle on the pink chairs outside and devour your delectable selection.
Edit- I recently went to a party that had the dessert catering by B&P, a selection of mini tarts and tubes. Everything was absolutely exquisite and the salted caramel tart was utterly beyond. You could not go wrong selecting them to provide a sweet ending. Please note I have been advised the meringue cloud is no longer available, this is disappointing as they were a bit of a signature but I can pretty much guarantee you'll be pleased with anything you try there

An awesome sweets/cake shop. Desserts are well priced for the size & quality
The cake I ordered over the phone was ready for collection on time, and was absolutely divine in terms of flavour (Christmas decorations as it was for Christmas, but the cake itself was their chocolate, mandarin & salted caramel flavour). I also ordered the espresso cookie to go, which was rich, chewy & had lovely chocolate chunks throughout it.
The staff were friendly and the service was quick.
I never bother writing reviews but i feel like this is too well deserved not too. I went into Burch & Purchese yesterday to buy a cake for my partners birthday. I decided to buy the mango and lychee cheesecake and it was absolute perfection. Everyone said it was one of the best cakes they have ever eaten.
Thank you for the delicious cake and not to mention the friendly staff and service i received when entering...how could being offered delicious samples from the store ever disappoint though?
Will definitely be purchasing my cakes from here on! :)
Grabbed a few cold desserts to go plus the salted caramel lamington and they were fantastic! As always B&P delivers the goods. Love the chocolates and granola in store too. Definitely a special occasion treat but well worth it.
BnP is one of Melbournes more famous cake shops.. we finally had a chance to try this out at a friend’s birthday.. the cake that we had was the soursoup, watermelon & lime cheese cake..
it was simply delicious.. cake was soft and fluffy and the cream wasn’t too sweet.. it was light yet able to satisfy my sweet tooth..
A very good experience and I would definitely pay them a visit to try out some of their other cakes..
What an amazing experience- the adult version of a kid in a candy store!!!!!!!! We will definitely be visiting again.
My Rating: 4.5
I have sweet tooth for all things desserts 🤭 Recently was in South Yarra and did a quick stop to Burch & Purchese Sweet Studio for a sweet treat! Yum!!
They have a variety of single cakes, larger cakes, chocolates, chocolate flavoured spreads, jams, cook books, lollipops, biscuits, brownies. You are bounds to find something you like in here!
🔆LOCATION🔆
Burch & Purchese is situated on Chapel Street between Toorak Road and Alexander Avenue. From the outside it looks like a small shop, with a few outdoor seatings, but as you walk inside the shop is quite long and full of exciting sweet treats! At the back of the shop you can see the large open kitchen where all the magic happens.
Only thing is that they dont have indoor seating for customers to enjoy their cakes especially when it is cold day. So many people have to just get take-away.
🔆SERVICE🔆
The female staff behind the counter were extremely helpful and friendly. Very patient and while customers were viewing all the cake options, a staff from the back kitchen bought out a platter with cut peices of cake for customers to try - Lemon & Raspberry Tart and Soursop, Strawberry & Lime ! Wow both were very delicious! I particularly enjoyed the Soursop, Strawberry & Lime.
I like how the staff is so engaging with the customers and even the dessert chef came out and had a nice chat as well.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
Burch & Purchase has soo much variety, you really need to take some time to view all their wonderful delights.
After a while we decided on the following two cakes:
Pina Colada, $10.00
(Coconut sponge, pineapple and vanilla compote, coconut mousse, Malibu & vanilla jelly, chocolate 'coconut', pine lime & vanilla curd, coconut cream, pineapple jelly)
Chocolate, Mandarin, Salted Caramel dessert, $10.00
(Flourless chocolate sponge, mandarin cream, salted caramel cream, dark chocolate & mandarin mousse, shiny chocolate mirror glaze)
🔆VERDICT🔆
I wanted something light and not too sweet so I picked the Pina Colada and oh my goodness! It was absolutely exquisite. It was exactly as described pina colada in a cake. The coconut sponge cake was extremely light and as you cut through the sponge cake, the pineapple and vanilla compote in the centre oozzed out and was so delicious. I really like the intricacy, detail and the amount of ingredients and thought that went into it! Yum!
My friend wanted something chocolate and with dark chocolate and she got just that! It was chocolate layered bliss with lovely tinge of orange mandarin mixed through it. It was quite light but maybe a tad little too sweet for my friend's liking.
Overall had such a great time here! Only wish their dessert shop was bigger and to accommodate seating inside. Must visit again and try more of their delightful cakes.
Picture perfect and taste perfect. We had the pina colada and the raspberry chocolate tube. They both looked perfect on the outside and when we cut into it, the interior was intricate and highly inviting. The flavours went well together and danced on our palate. It was a memorable dessert.
