Review Zumbo Patisserie South Yarra - Yarra

Lily Prior
Absolutely AMAZING!! lives up to its reputation, they even sell some thing you see on 'Zumbo's Just Desserts' like the salted V8 caramel. ( Totally recommended!) We got a dessert each and shared. My personal favourite was the individual chocolate cake with macrons and meringues on top.

I went here last June 2016. I had a great experience, the cakes were delicious. Also I got a couple of macaroons and they have been the best so far I had taste.
Jorja Leigh
Eat in or take away. Delicious pastries. I think Zumbo provides excellent value for the serving sizes of the cakes and the quality of the product. The pre-made cakes to share are excellent value. I’ll be back for work birthday cakes. Staff are friendly and completely understand that it can take forever to make up your mind which treat to get.

First time visitors, but won't be the last time we come here. Amazing desserts as you would expect and very friendly staff.

My girlfriend dragged me here against my will initially, but after a visit I was absolutely hooked on the nutella zonuts. Although I did not try anything else, my partner thoroughly enjoyed a wide selection of cakes and other delicacies. We ended up at the patisserie three times in the space of one week - so take my word for it, the place is fabulous! Highly recommend a visit at least once in a Melbourne trip.

This place was in my itinerary. I came to Melbourne thinking that I must visit Zumbo shop. So I did and I was very pleased! The cakes and macarons were, of course, very nice! The staff was very helpful and friendly. And the place was just so magical! Love it so much

The place is Cosy and nice for an afternoon tea. Good pit stop of u are tired of walking & shopping. The cakes are nice. A bit on the sweet side.
Casey Field
Nice little dessert shop. Good for a stop with 3-4 people. Delicious! Look forward to coming back to try some of the other desserts.

Pretzel croissant was just perfect for a snack. The macaroons were good but too sweet for my liking. Tried other pastries before and never been disappointed.
Cakes were good especially impressive for special occasions but they can be a bit sweet.
Early grey tea was ok, not much flavour.
林静怡
Nice! The vanilla one was perfect, but I feel like the chocolate one was too sweet. And the coffees were nice.
I also booked a birthday cake which was V8 vanilla cake, and I have to say that this was a different one than what I have tried before, it was really nice!

Decoration of Zumbo cake is so beautiful.
Coating and design individual cake and very pleasant to watch inside window display.
Customer service is polite and welcoming.

I found the flavours of sour layers are very strong and too sourly sweet.
Last time I bought 4 and only chocolate moose was the perfect balance of layers.
This time I bought 2. One was too sour for me and another cake took 3 sec3 to put fork into the bottom of chocolate cake.

I'm a huge fan of their almond croissant, I think is the best that I ever tried in Melbourne and I'm always around ...but in the last month I coudn't find it anymore and I'm so disappointed..please bring it back , I cannot live without it!!

Love Zumbo macaroon!! They were so crispy and not too sweet for me. Love their selection and my favourite definitely the popcorn and passion fruit. I wish they have more flavors!

Loving the ambiance and desserts selection! It was so hard to choose just the one cake which was a very good thing. Great service by the lovely lady helping us choose.

This patisserie was located down a little alleyway in Melbourne's South Yarra. At first, it didn't look like the kind of area where this world renowned pastry chef would set up shop, office buildings lined both sides of the street, and it gave off this, 'all work and no play' vibe. But as we began to approach the blue dot on our map, there it was, THE PLAY! A chocolate drip glass frontage, pink neon signs, and funky mirrored walls that reflected all the beautiful colours of the sweet creations sitting pretty behind the counter. Willy Wonka, minus a bit of quirky, plus a bit of glam...I LOVE IT!

Once we'd recovered from the sensory overload of the decor, our minds set to the task of choosing what to eat. There were so many decadent looking sweets to choose from, cabinets full of macarons, baskets full of pastries, and a line up of cakes that went on for days. How on earth was I supposed to pick just one!! The obvious way to go about this would have been to try one of the cakes they're famous for, I mean, when you're at a famous patisserie you should probably try their signature creations, right? Well I thought about that, but then decided that being a sucker for a fruity dessert, the Passionfruit Tart was the one for me, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

Read full post via the link below

How can you say no to dessert? So many great options to choose from always been which is a good sign. Quirky flavours of macarons. Fancy and creative cakes. Nice staff and the goods are good.

It is actually a 3.5 star!
I had a single piece of the V8 cake! There definitely was layers of texture and flavours. It was just a little bit on the sweet side for me, probably would have been perfect accompaniment with a cup of coffee.
Rene Michelle D'Souza
Loved their croissant and coffee. Had their double choc lamington cake on friend’s birthday and it was really good. Although not many tables for eat in.

Ambience: it’s very inviting with all the pretty dessert!
Shared the dessert with the family so I could have a taste of everything. The lamington and lemon meringue was my favourite. Need to go back next week to get some more
Kaustav Roy
The lemon meringue tart tastes as good as it looks! I wish I could have tasted everything there, but maybe next time. Surely a bucket list moment!

As seen on Masterchef. Quirky flavours of macarons. Fancy and creative cakes. Tucked in a quiet street. Funky interior. Friendly staff. Sweetness overload.

This place doesn't really need words, brilliant mind makes a brilliant product. Croissant was exceptional, all the products look amazing. You could tell they were all made with real ingredients as a pose to pre mix which you can often taste at some bakeries/patisseries.
Sam Jones
The passionfruit tart is a delight to eat. The design is beautiful, the cream filling is perfectly sweet, the biscuity base is moreish. I love it.

A traditional usual way for closing my satisfaction after having a brunch. I found this famous store in South Yarra called "Adriano Zumbo".

Food:
The breakfast of champions! 'Aussie Kids' contains Blackberry Sphere, Blackberry Marshmallow, Toasted White Chocolate Cremeaux, Flourless Chocolate Sponge, Banana Jelly and Weet-Bix Crunch. It cost you $AUD 9 to get this Aussie Kids cake in your mouth!

Individual Pollock Nights Cake consist of exquisite Coconut Dacquoise, Coconut Dacquoise, Coconut Crunch, PassionFruit Sponge soaked in Passionfruit Syrup, Pineapple Compote, Coconut Mousse and Striking Black Gaze. It cost you $AUD 9 to get you this delicious individual cake!

Zumbarons Assorted 6 pack consist of (from right to left): Cremè Brulee, Vanilla Milkshake, Chocolate Brownies, Salted Butter Caramel, Popocorn and Caramel Coffe. There are still many more taste that you can choose. But i prefer this 6 are the best based on my opinion. This Zumbarons cost you $AUD 15 for 6 pack (the more you ordered, the more cheaper the price it cost you).

#BHAsFoodDiary

I have tried about 10 different items from Zumbos. From birthday cakes, to individual deserts, savoury pies, croissants and bread. Everything has been delicious especially the beef and pepper pies. The vegetable quiche with soybeans was the only item I really did not like... the mix of flavours was a big miss for me.

Came here for high tea and it was absolutely lovely. Amazing selections, very unique and not your typical high tea experience at all. I loved the decor and the service was exceptional. Would go again! For those playing at home, my zumbo favourites are: passionfruit tart, malted milkshake macaron, buttered popcorn macaron.

So much to choose from
Used my voucher that my son gave me
So much time goes into his creations
Such fancy cakes and even got a banana cake mix which was yummy

It's Zumbo - I am so biased - the man is a genius and I can live off his food, although I may end up with diabetes. We went to the smaller cafeteria section and bought a lot of pastries and some herbal teas and coffees. The venue is wonderfully appointed like a rock club and the service was great. Everything we ate was basically perfection.

Love the passionfruit tart
Not too sweet. Absolutely love it
Also love their coffee. Their coffee beans has strong aroma 😍
Will definitely recommend friends
Beth O'Reilly
Good coffee, lovely pastry, cute environment and friendly staffs. The only down part is there is too little seats available, and the cafe at the back is under renovation.
BL
Very disappointed with the macarons. I really expected them to be divine coming from Zumbo, but was severely let down. I'm not sure if it's just that batch I got, but I don't know that I'm keen enough to go back to try out that theory.

This place is crazy. From the lighting to the display cases, everything is over the top and magnificently so. The care put into creating such intricate desserts is obvious to all. It doesn't stop there though, the flavours match the appearance. You bite into a small piece of heaven each and every time.

Decided to splurge on a selection of their individual cakes, as we wanted to get a taste of all of them! In total, we got 6 different cakes:
- call me after eight
- lemon-blueberry cheesecake
- ruby red velvet
- v8 chocolate
- passionfruit tart
- tiramisu tart

All of the cakes were delicious! Not too sweet, and the flavour was perfect. Our favourites were the passionfruit tart and the tiramisu tart, but we would definitely recommend all of them!
Miranda Sims
We were blown away by the friendly service from Natalie! We had the chocolate brownie macaron (called Zumborons here!), malted vanilla macaron, lemon tart and a very cool chocolate dome call me after eight. Very yummy and not sickly sweet, great presentation and loved the pattern design on the packaging! Coffee was great and still $3.50. The venue is fun and shiny and always cool to see the chef's working in the kitchen. Thanks for a fun kid friendly outing.

Been here a few times and the dessert are very nice. I really enjoy their macaroons. The atmosphere and the interior design is very unique and makes a wow statement

Saturday afternoon we called in for coffee & cake. I've been wanting to visit Zumbo's for years & finally got around to it. It was surprisingly quiet. I wasn't expecting lines out the door but when we walked in it was completely empty. Staff said they'd had a busy morning and that the cabinet was fully stocked earlier. Mid afternoon there was still plenty to choose from. We ordered a Chai Latte & a Latte. The Chai was a great balance of sweet without being overpowering. From the cabinet I tried the Scurro. It was one of four new offerings released last week, in readiness for warmer weather. I was expecting Scurro to be loaded with caramel & chocolate flavours. Turns out it's a beautifully light chocolate mousse with most of the flavour down towards the base. Perfect treat for a hot day without feeling sluggish afterwards.

The Zonutella was most definitely a showstopper. As a fancied-up version of Zumbo’s original Cronut (cross between a croissant and donut), the pastry was rather impressive. The flakey outer made way for a soft and spongy inner. Lightly dusted with sugar on the outside, the inner was filled generously with a thick and sinfully sweet Nutella. Topped with crunchy, candied hazelnuts and chocolate shards, then smothered in a swirl of light yet creamy gianduja, this was seriously a sweet-tooth’s dream come true.

I am sure everyone knows this well known Australian patisserie guru, Adriano Zumbo.
Zumbo started his business in New South Wales and few years back he opened a branch in Victoria.
This dessert shop didn't take long enough to attract Melbournians, it has become one of the most favorite and the best cake shops in town.

We loved the interior design (using the concept store at The Star Casino) in this Shop; it's modern, clean, fancy with reasonable price range and variety of cake options to spoil all dessert lovers.
Situated in South Yarra, prime location, busy area and saturated with many competitors; However, this cake shop is still the most favorite among others.

We ordered Passionfruit tart for our dear friend's birthday for $38.00.
It's the most customer's favourite tart and it's the Zumbo classic cake.
We initially wanted to purchase a day before our friend's birthday, surprisingly just right after lunch time it was sold out.
We're advised by the friendly customer staff to come earlier the day after, we preorder and came early in the morning to pick it up.

The tart had a beautiful presentation and color.
It had the striking red and yellow airbrush finish, you would be able to see the smooth texture and fantastic gradation color reminiscent of a tropical sunset.
The taste of this taste matched to the fabolous presentation, it had sour and sweet taste but not too strong.
It had rich taste, creamy, soft and fluffy on the top but had a solid buttery crumbly base.

Overall, we're satisfied with the tart chosen and no wonder this tart becomes one of the longstanding Zumbo classic tarts.
Passionfruit is highly recommended!!

Taste: 5.0
Service: 4.0
Speed: 4.0
Price: 3.0

Yay: MUST MUST to try Passionfruit
Nay: N/A

Location: 14 Claremont Street, South Yarra, Melbourne
Phone: 1800 858 611
Website: zumbo.com.au
Little Bit Of Everything
Zumbo has something for everyone. You need to have a sweet tooth to try out the cakes and macrons here. Sugars are so well balanced. I love their Macrons and Almond Croissant.

Absolutely love their interiors in all the stores so bright and colorful. Mirrors everywhere just lights up the entire place.

Everyone working their are passionate and super friendly. if you want to have options try and go early as they sell out for obvious reasons. In short its a must to go to ZUMBO !!
Melbourne To Mouth
Everything from Zumbo is amazing. Whether it's the V8 Cake you're after or just a brekky bite on the run, you can't be disappointed walking in here. The Cookies & Cream version of the V8 cake is sensational and not sweet enough that you only need ONE slice, you can totally have more. What's more to want than that?!?!

I will preface this review by saying that I had been beyond excited to give this place a visit after all its publicity especially on Instagram - especially the cross-section of the Snickers choux-maca! The marketing team is definitely doing something right. I finally made my way there yesterday but have to say I was left feeling quite disappointed which is a shame, even as a sweet tooth! We selected a variety of things to try, so here's the breakdown:

The Snickers choux-maca: The contents of this sounded amazing - a combination of a crispy/profiterole-esque pastry, caramel, peanut cream etc. The pastry itself had great texture but it was unbelievably salty...almost to the point where I thought that there may have been a mistake made in the ingredients, like the salt had been mistaken for sugar. That cloying taste overpowered every other element and I could only take 2 bites! The caramel and peanut cream didn't have a strong flavour either when tasted by themselves. 5/10 which is generous, given they are $8.

The Chocolate Sacher choux-maca: Again, the texture of this one was great. Didn't realise it had apricot jam in the centre which I thought was a strange combo with the chocolate. Even the chocolate itself didn't have a very potent chocolatey taste. At least the pastry on this one wasn't salty though. A better dessert overall but I didn't really love the flavour profile together - 6/10

The V8's - boy these were disappointing! There was a big hype around these on Instagram as they're limited edition so I was expecting a lot more. We got the cookies and cream and the espresso to try, and aesthetically they all look beautiful.

Cookies and Cream V8: This didn't have any noticeable flavour. I couldn't discern anything that was distinctly 'cookie' as there was little to no texture except for what ended up being almost like a water-logged cake. I think that was attributable to all the layers having melded together, especially in conjunction with the exterior which was strangely gelatinous. This was the most underwhelming of the bunch, and at $11 a pop, a serious let down and I think it is a shame to have the 'Zumbo' name attached to it! 3/10.

Espresso V8: This was better as there was some crunchy texture in one of the layers, although the 'espresso' flavour was very muted. I think that was an overall issue - the flavours never shone through and if you had been given them in a blind tasting, you'd struggle to differentiate them! I'd give this one a 5/10.

Passionfruit Tart: Thank goodness we tried this one, definitely the saviour of the day! Zingy, smooth and with a delicious buttery biscuit base. It was simple and well executed. 8.5/10.

Nutella Zonut: We had to fit this one a little later as we were a bit over the sugar after all the above! This was also quite nice. The pastry was fluffy, the hazelnuts on top were excellent. The only thing I didn't necessarily love was that the sugar used to coat the outside was quite chunky. I'd give this a 7/10. Tasty but not exactly something I'd never had before.

We also had 2 coffees which were well-priced at $3.50 and a definite must if you're planning on sampling a lot like we did, just to cut through the sugar!

Overall, I was really disappointed by our first visit here. Tucked away in a little side street, I don't think the location is exactly ideal either as I'm guessing it doesn't receive as much traffic as it would if it were situated on the main road. The girls who served us were exceptionally lovely and the interior is also spectacular though. It is such a shame that what are presented as mouth-watering desserts end up falling short in the flavour department, which of course is the most important!
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Zumbo has relaunched his chouxmacas, they're only available Thursday to Sunday and the snickers one is most definitely worth it - no convincing needed! It's filled with salted butter caramel, peanut caramel creme and topped with ganache - it's a divine combo of salty sweet and crunchy smooth. At $8 for one it's pricey, though cheaper the more you buy..... a dangerous thought!

Love the passionfruit tart! All time favorite. Can't remember the name but my friend said their chocolate cake with a stick is quite good as well. Good atmosphere and nice staffs! Open till 7 pm, my late night coffee go-to!

Great place for a sweet tooth! Passionfruit tart and brownie are way up there with my favs! A box of Zumbaroons on the way home won’t go astray. My to go place when I’m craving something sweet!

Great cake and dessert bar, worth a try. Definetely try the v8 cake, also the passion fruit cake tart, and the chocolate brownies, and the happy bday cake.

If you have a sweet tooth then you absolutely need to pay this place a visit. Amazing individual cakes and pastries and there is something for everyone. Whether you're a chocolate lover or like something more plain, this place is glorious.
Split The Bill
What can I say...when the team heard there were Zumbo's for morning tea there was a large turn out.

I finally got to try Zumbo croquembouche! The profiteroles were very light and fluffy with a mix of chocolate and vanilla filling. However the toffee on the outside was quite hard so we had to be careful as we bit into them. This was complemented with with Zumbos famous macarons and various chocolate bites.
Food Coma Survivor
LOVED the passion fruit tart, the palmier (to die for), the fudgy brownies, vanilla V8 donut (AMAZING). The ginger tart, sacher were still nice, but I wasn't daydreaming about it haha.
Good Food Good Mood
One of the most vibrant and memorable high tea experiences of my life. The food was decadent and beautiful and an exciting twist on a traditional high tea. The tea on offer is my favourite Harney and Sons blend and as the name suggests it's all a bit flamboyant and fancy. The interiors are reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland with bright pink flamingos and colourful murals resulting in a whimsical atmosphere. The glass mirror and plush luxurious seating also create a glamorous environment to indulge in. I loved the macaron served in the bowl of tricolour chocolate balls which I am pretty sure was a garnish but I did my best to eat majority of. It was a wonderfully playful way to begin the meal. It only got better as we transitioned from desserts to scones to savouries (a different more modern and fun way to serve the courses, dessert is most important after all). Simply put as far as I am concerned Mr Zumbo is a sweet treat genius who can do no wrong
Peruvian Palate
Visiting Zumbo's patisserie is a must. I usually always bring back with me a pack of the macaroons but this time I wish I brought back that brownie. I think it's one of the best brownies I've had in a long time. For only $6 you get the biggest, chunkiest, fudgy brownie filled with macadamia and caramel. I'm salivating just thinking about it. I wish he opened a shop in Brisbane! The macaroons are now second best. Brownie comes first.
Homer
ZONUTS yes yes yes. Coffee is quite good too. I did not enjoy the breakfast menu but you can tell they know their flavours. Modern and different, worth a try
Trang Lai
I'm so in love with the passion fruit tart that I found myself come back again n again. The service is just okay but the place looks great. 👍🏻

I came around closing time a couple days ago and was relieved to see a huge variety of desserts still available. I bought two small cakes for takeaway which survived the ride home. The Yuzu say Cheese was balanced well and not very sweet. I liked the soft fluffy texture and the presentation is very cute. Wunderbar was nice also but flavour combination was very different to what I am used to (raspberry and pineapple). It is a signature dessert though so it's worth a try. I still enjoyed the Yuzu one better. Transaction process was very quick but staff were friendly. I've had bad experiences with their macarons (texture wrong/hard) but I'm so glad their cakes live up to expectation.
Nicole ✌️
We had the V8 salted caramel and took home a box of Zumbarons, and we were not disappointed. Everything was divine! We'll definitely be visiting again when we're back in Melbourne!
Izzfizz101
Excellent service here and genuinely passionate and friendly staff, the macaroons are fabulous, really intense flavours compared to other places for the same price so I gave to say best I have tried.if you had to eat your last macaroon it would be from here.

The Lou Lou, had nice coconut flavour but was a bit bland, the V8 vanilla was probably the best overall , the salted caramel V8 was good but really powerful in the caramel flavour. We bought a large V8 Nutella last year and they don't make it at the moment because it was amazing .

I do have to admit that the Zumba cakes are sugar on steroids and maybe not as refined or complex or sublime in flavour like D&Ps

Finleyhimawan
Tried a few cakes and unfortunately we only like the passionfruit tart. Most of the others for example the V8 salted caramel, choc block including the macarons are a bit too sweet for me. But we love the passionfruit tart as it is quite refreshing and have a bit of tanginess in it. I have to say though the presentation of the dessert is great!

My brother is obssessed with Zumbo, coz he might be thinking y he can be so famous if his dessert sucks? Well, im not saying all of it, but mostly yes.
Bought & try most of their cakes which mostly sucks and the rest just so-so (cant even bother to take pic coz it was not good, i dont wanna promote it), The good one was only the popcorn macaroon, thats what basically i will buy from here, but my brother fav that he always ordered when he come to Melb, the vanilla v8 (which i think was just so-so) i dont get whats so superb abt it. The hazelnut v8 definitely lost big time if compared to ganache chocolate in south yarra, and the worse was the croquembouche that we ordered for my bro in law bday end of last year, it was a disaster! The caramel coating was super hard that i almost brake my teeth just to eat it! And the caramel was bitter, choux was a bit dry and cream filling taste very standard. I shouldve return and ask for refund, that whole big thing just sat on the dining table and nobody wanna eat it. Well, another dissapointment from Zumbo. Ill try n find the photo n soon will upload it.

Doesn't the name say it all! Top deserts all round! Have been here several times and never disappointed with their stuff. A little slow in terms of service!
Aarohi Misra
So the dessert menu keeps changing but this place is worth a visit, lovely desserts and zumbarons (macaroons) , I had a dessert that tasted just like a Christmas plum cake which was amazing, the second one was a dark chocolate mousse dipped in chocolate and roasted nuts..
Tried a few zumbarons which were yummy, considering I've never been a fan of macaroons
MelbFoodHunter
Every now and then I like to treat myself with a lovely dessert - usually finding myself at Brunnetis. This was my first at AZ in South Yarra, having tried a variety of macaroons at their emporium pop-up. And I must say, while the flavours and presentation were good, I definitely expected more from the Australian king of desserts. The passion fruit tart is definitely worth trying while the Yuzu Cheesecake missed the, for Brunetti typical, strength of flavour. I will probably stick to the old classic brunetti in the future.
Katherine's Food Diary
The idea of a Zonut had me intrigued. It was so pretty too (although some of the cannoli bits fell off on the way home). It's Zumbo's version of Dominique Ansel's 'cronut' which is a cross between a croissant and a doughnut. The Zonut had all the delicate, flaky layers of a croissant with the fluffy inside of a deep-fried doughnut. Love! It was also slightly savoury too, and today's toppings, pistachio and blackberry, vanilla rice pudding and cannoli. Together, they are not overly sweet.
The Decorated Fondant Bar Cake is gorgeous! Decadently rich chocolate fondant topped with meringue, strawberries and macarons.
Brandon
had the yuzu cheeze cake, palmier and a selection of different macarons and found them all very average. the salted caramel macaron was so chewy that when i bit into it all the caramel came out the sides, for someone whose known for macarons and trained with the best in paris you'd think he'd know how to make them properly.
Meiling Yi
Sensational chocolate flourless cake absolutely nailed it. Good amount, nice dark ? Dutch ? Chocolate was perfectly balanced with sweet and bitter. Nicely moisturised and rich in texture indeed. Macaroons are great as always
Shijing Wang
One of my favourite dessert stores in Melbourne. I like it more than brunetti. The salted caramel, yuzu Cheesecake and Chocolate Brownie are the best!
Nancy Zhou
Not sweet, good taste. I love it. Warmly services and happy talking with staff. Bright colors of cakes. I love the shops environment...... We can see how the cake be made.
Amy Tatosyan
very interesting looking desserts. only bought the chocolate cake which wasn't as expected but for sure will return again to try other desserts
Bribe My Reviews W GoodFood
Recalling my last Adriano Zumbo's take away sweets.
Cakes are looking lovely and colourful they still hold their shape when I got home and I really love the appearances of the cake.
When I took a bite on the taro sago cake , Sugar > flavour, everything is too sweet for my tastebuds and I got a little overwhelmed after finishing my first cake.
Nice to dilute it down the sugar by drinking some tea.
Catherine Widyaputri Suprapto
Quite disappointed honestly, was expecting the desserts to be extremely delicious. It turns out to be just so-so, nothing spectacular about this. The yuzu cheesecake was just okay, not gonna come back to have it again. Too costly for just an ordinary and tiny dessert.
Emily Smith
Came here because I recently started watching Zumbos just desserts and got extremely excited when I saw this place one day the desserts here are just a tad overly sweet but all in all extremely good
Yvette.b
Finally gave this place a try last week, during a particularly stressful day at work that required a pick-me-up in the afternoon. The cakes and pastries at Zumba are always beautifully presented and look absolutely divine! I opted for a latte and Sticky Date Cronut - it was lovely! Super sweet and not my ideal 'every day' kind of treat, but it definitely hit the spot!
Lucifer
How VERY disappointing! Took my daughter there for a birthday treat and we were both less than impressed. Shop looked fantastic!! At the prices these cakes are we expected to not leave a crumb on our plate. We bought macaroons, which we have yet to try, lemon meringue pie, which was lovely and a bagingerama slice which was nice. I then bought a chocolate cake that had strawberries, macaroons and meringues on top for her birthday - looked amazing - tasted far from it. If I didn't know any better I would say it was burnt! Most ended up in the bin. Dont waste your money in this shop! !

Was super excited about coming here but left feeling slightly underwhelmed.
I have definitely tried better desserts out there.. dont go with high expectations and you might enjoy it more

Been to this lovely cafe a few times but last weekend will be my last. WARNING if you want cakes before 830am don't bother going. I was so excited to try yet another marvelous creation "a stones throw" which was a special for 3 days only last weekend.... only to find when my friend went the sat morning and then I on the Sunday morning, nothing was available til 830 or maybe 9am?? Just don't know why you continue to open at 7am with nothing to sell. The lovely shop attendant on the Sunday morning only had one type of small cake , no bread:pastries either and that was at 745am( my friend was there on the Saturday morning the same time) and nothing!!! The shop attendant was so apologetic and looking embarresed as she had nothing to sell other then the Frankenzumbo which I didn't want.?? I love your work Adriano but please don't open til after 830am as I and my friend had made a special trip after work.... All for nothing! Really disappointing!
Jan
Desserts look great but leaves a lot to be desired as an eat in venue, mediocre coffee, breakfasts were served with a 20 minute gap between first and the rest...
Vivalaivy
Fancy store with nice decors in a small street near Toorak road - their dessert look amazing, really beautiful. However i personally think they tasted a little too sweet. I forgot to take a picture of my favourite one out of the 4 desserts we ordered - my favourite was the brownies. They did not have good coffee though.
Sweetslover1980
Great service , great gateaux and amazing flavours . First time here but will be back to try the rest of the range. Interesting flavours and great textures through the range we tried.

It's like walking into desert heaven- something for everyone- visually it's amazing- huge range of deserts and knowledgeable staff that help you choose what you'll be trying- I have to go back a few times till I try everything that appealed to me- so far everything I had was amazing #yumm🍰

I'm a huge fan of Adriano Zumbo and his macarons or 'Zumbarons'. Whatever your sweet tooth desires he's got something for you whether it be a macaron, cake or a pastry. Highly recommended.
Devin Fransiscus
Tried most of their cakes and macaroons, but theres only a few that i like. V8 nutella, v8 vanilla and popcorn macaroon were amazing, especially the v8 vanilla. The rest was ok.
Mj
This place is pretty cool. Tucked away in a side street in south yarra this amazing cafe will meet your sweet needs. We got the almond croissant which was to die for and coffee was not bad either.

A cafe with funky interior design paired with friendly staff. Bought 3 pieces of individual cakes yesterday, which are "Individual Decorated Fondant" - beautifully finished with fresh strawberries and chocolate ; "Lemon Meringue Tart ", gorgeously finished with citrus taste; "tarte aux fruits de la passion" with Intense passionfruit flavour. The only demerit was they do not have birthday candle provided to their customers. For your information, they can make large cakes for all those small individual cakes upon customer request. Happy trying everyone!

Wow, amazing, if you are a sweet tooth then zumbo is the place for you. Amazing desserts, and of course macarons! Expensive but worth it. But when it comes from Australia's / worlds best patisserie Adriano zumbo, it is a must, so many choices, and things you have never seen before. Live life and splurge!

I think I just found my new favourite cafe in South Yarra! 80's retro atmosphere. Many choices of pastry and bakery. Pepito and zonut are wonderful. Great service and good dessert 5/5

Such a nice little shop, the interior is a bit to much, but staff is really helpful and, also you can sit down and eat whatever you buy, i had the lemon tart, definitely the best, if you like high quality dessert go for it :)

The interior of this place is like a nightclub. I bought the chocoate 'zonut' which was decadent and very satisfying. Only thing is I saw a fly sitting on their pastries and flying around. When i told their staff, she waved her arm to get the fly away but didn't seem to care.

Coffee was ok, but Awesome cakes even tho I'm not a big fan of dessert, so much to choose from 😆😆😆, my favorite was the two dittos, will be back 😁

Been there many times. Sweets look nice and delicious but generally a bit too sweet. Their cream tastes like jelly which I do not like. I normally buy croissant, pretzel croissant, and Danish there. It could get very oily sometimes. They have to burn their coffee every time.

Great place with lots of variety. Can get very busy. Desert are lovely and look delicious. They also make yummy pies and sausage rolls which my hubby likes. Coffee could be better.

Cakes are allergy-conscious and light on the tummy. I bought the lime & macadamia slice cake, topped with caramelised popcorn; absolutely perfect. Adore the colored interior as it adds warmth to the venue.

Bountiful array of beautiful, dainty desserts. One would be spoilt for choices! Had a hard time deciding on what to order. Was hoping to order the V8 vanilla cake but that is only available as a whole cake instead of slices :(

Fantastic cakes, pastries and macarons!
Tried the V8 Nutella today which is a spin on their V8 Cake. Well distinguished layers, smooth and shiny glaze with thin chocolate-very well done!
There is a small number of tables to eat in or you can have your goods packed to take away.

My favourite dessert venue in Melbourne, prefer it over a few other popular ones around South Yarra/Chapel st area. Love the Zonut it changers flavour with time but all good. Tried few other desserts and they were all good, complex and has different layers of flavour and texture.

Another below average "franchise" patisserie. There was a few decent macaroons and 1-2 desserts I enjoyed, but Its rare when you get disgusted and put off by a rich chocolate cake that you trash it instead of eating it. I tried majority of the dessert range here to find a few of them were rather revolting... did someone mess up a few ingredients in the recipes? I don't know but the first impression on their desserts was not a good one. With B&P and Lux Bite in the same area, there is no reason to go here... Adriano Zumbo himself is going to have to man the store daily to have any chance to compete with those two competitors. 2.5/5

Leading up to Easter I was visiting this place every couple of days and eating their hot cross buns. The buns were really dense and not as doughy as your supermarket buns.

Enjoyed the chocolate macaron more so than the salted caramel.
I can say that I prefer Zumbo cakes instead of their infamous macarons - La Belle Miette is still my personal Melbourne fave for those.

Always a treat heading into South Yarra so many good sweet dessert places around, but just had to make a stop in here and buy some amazing macarons.

The flavours are incredible and there were some new ones and some old classic favourites too.

We got a box of 12 and we chose fairy bread, salted caramel, V8 vanilla, red skin, pancake/maple syrup, nutella, malted milkshake, toasted marshmallow & a hot cross bun flavoured one.

The red skin was surprisingly delicious but nothing can top the salted caramel.

I came here with my partner easter monday and we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Everything looked so deliciously sweet. We chose the passion fruit tart, nutella v8 and got 6 macaroons take away. The tart was really good and well balanced with the right amount of sweetness. The nutella v8 was absolutely amazing. The interior reminded me of a ferraro rocher.

Came here to pick up a birthday cake & decided to try out some of the desserts. I had the passion fruit tart and oh myyyy cannot stop thinking about it. It was rich in flavour and tangy, goes so well with coffee! My friend had the lemon meringue tart which was also packed with flavour. We also ordered the red velvet cake which was equally amazing. Would definitely be coming back!

I have to confess to being a regular at Zumbos, I live quite close and the allure is often too much. Zumbos does a number of things well that I myself never really associated them with, pastries and quiche are both very good. Zumbos macarons are also excellent, especially the malted milkshake and V8 Vanilla. My favourite pastry is the Palmier, I almost don't want anyone else to be aware of it incase I miss out myself haha. I've found Zumbos specialty cakes to be hit and miss which is surprising considering that's their main selling point. Sometimes they're just quite lack lustre in flavour and texture but they always look great. I find that burch and purchese around the corner has much better specialty cakes. Zumbos also does coffee and tea which is important to accompany your sweets when you visit. Good stuff

There wasn't much selection. The staff members are really nice explaining what some of the cakes taste like:
Some of the cakes were delicious however some of them were way too sweet and sickening. The lemon meringue cake had a weird taste after it, made me feel a bit sick. The Nutella cake tasted amazing :)

You might think 'what' is with this very average score? Basically I have deducted 1.5 points for being subjected to one of the worst coffees....ever! It was bitter, virtually a half shot. Bad grinding, poor tamping technique and probably nobody checking the timer on the pour. Pity really because the service from the two girls here was delightful - just can't make a coffee. The cakes are pretty and very consistent looking. They're not cheap though and the macaroons are simply not worth $2.8 each. Great colour but so tiny. I'm surprised this place is on a fairly non descript street - kinda cold (some construction work is going on). The interior is very Spartan and does lack some warmth. When I imagined the name Zumbo I was thinking wood touches and me stepping over Crockenbush - sadly they aren't stacks of cakes everywhere. Feels like the stuff is cooked offsite and then sold in this concrete dungeon. If the coffee had been better the score would have been higher. Seriously Zumbo get down there and have shot and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Love the cake ! It was packed when we visited so we have the cake & macaroons take away . My favourite flavour macaroons is the one with popcorn. Really special & different than others . Not too sweet but just about the right sweetness! Perfect ! Every time when we go to south Yarra we pay a visit to Adriano zumbo!love it .

Love the macaron and cakes!!!! Picture below are the birthday cakes my friends bought me. First photo very pretty, the second one is simple. Yum!

Worth paying a bit extra for a delicious dessert.

The only downfall is the more simply flavoured desserts are strong in flavour. Example: the red velvet cake taste like jam, Nutella cake would be easier just to buy Nutella and a spoon.

UPSIDE: The more complex layered deserts are great offering a variety of textures and flavours throughout each bite.

Delicious treats! Will be back for a second visit just a shame about the insects that seem to have taken residence in the glass display

The place is a little hidden surprise, with an amazing and loud decor.

The macaroons we had were amazing. However, the cakes and other desserts were very well overpriced.

Overhyped and overrated. I have always had high expectations of the macarons sold at Adriano Zumbo cafes due to his reputation and inflated dessert prices. But my first visit only resulted in much disappointment, mainly due to the obvious stale taste and blandness of the shells and fillings, which were way too sweet! Heck, even the macarons I made using AZ's packet mixes tasted 1000x better than the ones from here! I am now afraid to visit another AZ cafe after my nightmare of an experience at this one.

So I have been here far too many times. I have tried their cakes, macaroons, and even some savoury. Everything looks so beautiful and I sometimes don't want to eat it after buying it. I enjoyed the desserts here but I can't say the same with their staff. I find that they can sometimes be either rude or condescending. For that I will rate this place 3. Such a shame really.
