Love Café Republic! There really is something for everyone.
As a vegan, I love their veggie pizzas, risotto, salads and specials! The coffee is on point and the space is beautiful.
Cocktails are next level too. A great place for brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks!
One of our faves in South Yarra. This is such a great spot. Staff are super friendly, they have a fab happy hour and their pizzas are 👌
Cafe Republic took me by surprise. Honestly I haven’t seen it pop up on any social media or any foodies pages, so when my friend suggested it I was a little bit skeptical. However, it was a lovely brunch. Not overly flamboyant and the food was tasty along with very good service.
I ordered the green breakfast bowl, the portion could have been a little bigger for me. The poached eggs were perfect, the pumpkin was sweet and delicious. And the greens were all seasoned really well. As I said feel the portion could be a little bigger or maybe a slice of toast could be added.
The granola was huge! A great portion size. With plenty of fruit which I loved. The fruit was fresh and varied from blueberries to passionfruit. The panacotta had a lovely wobbly and hint of sweet vanilla.
The service was fab, I didn’t want avocado with my bowl and they happily swapped it out for mushrooms. That’s something you don’t really get in Melbourne usually they still charge you so I loved that extra bit of customer care.
A really pleasant surprise. A homely feel. I will visit again. :)
Went here for a client appointment. Had the calamari and arancini balls to start with the beef burger for main. Everything was tasty and cooked perfectly. Only negative was the chips came in a brown paper bag. To me that was a waste of rubbish when they could of just been put on the plate.
The cafe has a nice private dining area which holds atleast 20 people - the ambience was perfect for the occasion. We tried few items on the menu - and would recommend the calamari salad and lamb risotto The steak was average but went well with the salad.
Fantastic sticky date pudding and latte being served here. Cake was moist and full of date flavour without being overpowering. Latte was strong and prepared perfectly. Lovely music playing in the background. Nice lighting and seating areas rounds out the experience.
Tapas and wine on a rainy arvo really hit the spot! The squid was by far the highlight and the sauce was a great match. I’d like to come back for the brekky menu.
Great food, beautiful space, friendly staff and a wonderful menu. I’m hard set to think of anything to fault this place on. The coffees were good, as were the cocktails. Food was all delicious. Not overly expensive either. Definitely pay a visit.
Came in a quiet lunch. We ordered a flat white and we weren’t impressed with that. I got mine a cold press juice which is really tasty and refreshing. I just really enjoy the overall experience and the location is really nice too. Not a solid 4 but I guess the service saved it.
It’s been longtime I wanted to try this one. And well I wasn’t disappointed but I wasn’t amazed neither. Although, I would be happy to give it another go and check if my first impressions were right... the Grilled Salmon looked good but damn...it was such a plain taste; quite average I would say. Their menu was full of tasty interesting dishes though so maybe a second visit would be good. One thing that definitely got me: mango freshly squeezed juice! Youhouu! Not easy to find it these days. Service was good too, and overall was a nice experience.
Best meal of the trip. Staff are friendly, good atmosphere, used the space well so you don’t feel crowded. But the food! Wow was it delicious. Had the crispy calamari, and it was beautiful. The mixture of spices was perfectly balanced and the calamari was grilled not deep fried which is hard to come by. My partner had the tacos and they were fresh and flavourful. Could taste the quality.
Food 4/5: The food was lovely and really well described by size on the menu. We had the French Toast which was beautiful!
Service 3.5/5: The staff were polite and friendly but they asked for our order really quickly after we sat down and we very much weren’t ready.
Aesthetic 3.5/5: This place is really nice and quite relaxing but there isn’t anything particularly special that you can’t see at another cafe.
Price 3/5: It was a little expensive but overall an okay price.
We decided to check out a cafe in South Yarra having never dined there before. Upon entering the Republic we fell in love instantly. The waiters were chilled and the music was relaxing.
We ordered a wagyu slider, pasta and portobello mushrooms w/ eggs which we felt would suffice for a brunch date. The slider was perfectly cooked and the portobello mushrooms were gorgeous. The pasta failed unfortunately with a fish smell that was too strong. The person eating it is still recovering!
Overall a good cafe to have a nice brunch date at!
There was a time when we regularly dropped in for a cup of coffee and beer battered fries after a hard days work, but never had a proper dinner. This particular occasion was my bro’s bday and we shared a dip which was heavenly. Everything tastes good when you are happy, but their fries are to die for! Best f*****g fries I have ever tasted.
Our experience at this restaurant was so awesome! We used a Groupon and the service was great and the food even better... The seafood pasta was fresh and filling. The calamari was incredibly tender, not to mention how decadent the dessert was. Couldn’t fault a thing.
Had the avocado breakfast with rocket, chilli, feta and eggs on olive bread.
Everything together was so tasty.
Service was very kind.
However I may just not like bitter coffee but the coffee was extremely bitter and left a nasty taste in my throat.
They were kind enough to make me a new one but it tasted exactly the same. I appreciate the effort in trying but maybe it just wasn't for me.
Will be back to try dinner.
Found this cafe in my entertainment book so thought we should check it out. I had the avo and feta smash - olive bread, blistered cherry tomatoes, chilli, basil, feta, balsamic glaze, a poached egg and I added bacon. It was good, but probably a little plain for my taste. My partner had the fritters which were good. Decent coffee!
Great coffee, good wine list, nice ambience, good service. We were sitting outside so it was hard to get waitress to noticed us. But overall, good service. Was planning to get dessert around 9.30 but the kitchen is closed so we ended up only having wine and coffee instead of dessert...
Staff were extremely friendly, although the portion of the food was a bit small compared to the price, the taste made up for it. Highly recommend getting the smashed avocado and feta on toast!
Went there for dinner with Groupon Voucher. Everything was to the best quality, great service and delicious food, perfect portion size, friendly staff and nice vibe. Will be back for sure :)
Had never heard of this place so walked in with no expectations, an hour later my outlook on life had increased dramatically.
Everything I ate was spot on. Decent serving sizes and prices as well.
Shared the calamari & the bruschetta to start off. The latter was the best I ever had. Got the wagyu burger for the main, absolutely sensational. Highly recommend
Not a bad breakfast except maybe the coffee was a little bit bland. Service was friendly and efficient. The Avocado and Feta smash pretty palatable and would be better minus the balsamic (over-used massively in restaurants), and perhaps a little less avocado, and two poached eggs instead of one. From my memory most places that serve Smashed Avocado & Eggs on toast would offer two poached eggs. The toast had an excellent crust but it did taste and feel a little bit old.Overall a nice breakfast and would return again to try some other items given the chance.
Wanting to explore our new home of Melbourne, Cafe Republic's location and menu selection made it an easy choice and quickly became the spot for our mini family reunion.
Drinks, food, service and ambience - tick, tick, tick. The only fault in our experience was our Minis order. Our bubbly waitress mistook the child's linguine for the adults (?) NB. I noticed from when we first arrived and ordered simple drinks, I had to repeat myself several times as she seemly struggled to hear me - maybe the Perth accent had her?? None the less, the owner (or at least I think he was) graciously gave us the incorrect dish at the child's menu price; which we are ever so grateful for.
The meals - Mushroom risotto, Chicken pizza, Grilled Calamari salad (salad special) Linguine seafood pasta (Minis mistaken dish) Crumbed blue cheese stuffed chicken breast with kipfler potatoes with a side of Greek salad and Dijon cream sauce (Main special, see pics) And to finish a berry cheesecake. All of which were engulfed without fuss! As I can only speak for the Minis meal and mine + dessert - I have to say, all were cooked perfectly and made with quality fresh produce, arriving just as the menu had described.
Cafe republic is a cosy hotspot which oozes that upbeat trend setter vibe, an expectation which I suspect meets the South Yarra crowd. So the next time you're traveling along Toorak Rd, make this your pit stop and check out their delicious menu and specials!
DO: The steak and chips and fish and chips
DON'T: Like the unhealthy stuff? Then try the pizza or salads.
TIP: Great place to get the whole gang into since it's roomy and the staff were incredibly accommodating especially with kids/prams.
This place has been my local cafe for over 10 years now. Lovely people behind the scenes and a great menu to boot. This place always feels like home. Their burgers and pastas never disappoint! A good spot to have a few wines in the evening and watch the world go by..
Beautiful day to relax and enjoy the atmosphere
Always such good service Scott Chris Zac and Josh never fail to greet you with a smile
Highly recommend their signature pizza and thick crust beer batter chips
Delicious Mulled wine aromatic and warms the soul with a hint of chilli
My fav go to place
Juliette ❤️
Came here on my birthday and I'm happy with the food here. The pasta is quite good and I also recommend the calamari. It's tender and fresh.
So glad I discovered this place
So beautiful inside and the barista and gentleman who served me, who I assume is the owner were so lovely
I had the corn fritters with a side of beans
I loved the beans and the fritters were nice and soft , reminds me of how my baba makes them
Which is a plus
Can't wait to bring my boyfriend for dinner
Excellent portion sizes, friendly servers, well-priced dishes and amazing desserts -- Republic was the right stop for a recent dinner. If you're looking for an easy location in the South Yarra area, Republic is a great place for a meet up with friends or family. I would definitely go back!
My brother and I made reservations for Mother's Day lunch with our mum and we were greeted with attentive waiters (and a waitress) upon our arrival. We were seated at a table by the window, which I thought was one of the best seats in the cafe.
We ordered Mediterranean Lamb PIzza, Pasta Marinara, Caesar Salad and Fish and Chips to share. We waited approximately 10 minutes and all the food arrived at the same time, hot and delicious.
Can I just say, how amazing was the salad that came along with the fish and chips? The menu said rocket and watermelon (along with some sauce and something else I can't remember exactly, but it's on the menu). I was a bit apprehensive about it at first, but the cubes of watermelon were actually sweet and refreshing in a salad. I have never had a salad with watermelon in it and I absolutely loved it!
The pasta was delicious, pizza was not bad and the fish was fresh in fish and chips (the chips tasted the same as those from Maccas though...) oh, and the egg in Caesar Salad was perfectly cooked. The golden yolk poured out when we pierced the egg.
Our mother thoroughly enjoyed her meal, and a hot waiter even took a selfie for her!(after he helped us take a photo) Haha.
The price was a bit towards the expensive side but it was all worth it for our mum and for the faultless service and fantastic food.
I would've given Republic a full 5 stars rating, but when I was paying the bill I saw a sign saying that all mothers are given a free drink for Mother's Day when we call or tell them beforehand (which my mum didn't). When I made a reservation, I specified that we are taking my mum out to celebrate Mother's Day, maybe they didn't see the message.
UPDATE:
Management gave a satisfying response so I am now boosting my review up to 5 stars rating!
Regardless, I highly recommend going to this place for a birthday or celebrations.
Great place! Lovely staff and amazing food.. will definitely visit again. One of the best bruschetta ever... the main course was great too and they also have happy hours from 5-7!
This place welcomed us graciously, the food was beautifully presented. Parking was a bit tough, but doable.
Staff: super friendly!
Food: tasty and beautifully presented.
Coffee: best froth ever, I wasn't too keen on the news. But that's my own opinion.
Price: great and reasonable.
Over all! Yum!!
I've been here a couple of times now. It's centrally located on Toorak road and I'm just your typical gen y spending all my disposable income on food. We ordered two pizzas and a heap of sliders for the two of us. Yes I'm an over orderer, I just love eating. The caprese was delicious with its perfectly spongy fresh bocconcini. Toppings on the tiger prawn were very sparing, while we did say no chorizo I feel they could have put a few more prawns to compensate. The pulled lamb slider was solid and the happy hour running from 5-7 had packed the place out with suited men vying for a drink after work. It's not fine dining but it doesn't pretend to be its unpretentious and it ticks all the boxes
For casual dining it doesn't get much better than Republic.
Firstly the 'open air' environment invites you to kick back and relax. Then there's the service; an eclectic group of young waiters attending to your every need and finally the food.
We had the barramundi special which was a hearty meal priced under $30 and served with a few scallops and a wonderful vegetable mix including sweet potato and honey glazed carrots.
Finally the coffee was great but too bad I had no room left for desert!!
Great food, coffee and service. Had their pasta special, the portions were very generous and the ingredients were fresh. Will come back again!
Potato croquette was something! So fluffy and yet super soft inside. Never have this kind before so that's a big plus! However, the big republics was way overpriced than other brunch places, with portion being just about the same. Err.
Food is amazing. Oyster is amazing. Pasta is quite heavy on the taste as the cream can be intimidating for having too much.. Ordered the Moreton bug homemade fettuccine and the fettuccine is amazing texture. The salad will be a skip the dressing and bean sprouts heavily isn't refreshing and the taste is not there.. Apart from that all is good
First time at Café Republic since it was renovated and I think they did an excellent job. The spacious dining area looks fresh and inviting with simple yet elegant décor. Good selection of menu choices and the food was good. Cappuccino $3.80. Beautifully presented and pleasant to drink. 7.5/10
Had the trio of dips and the honeycomb cake. Bread was tasty, seasoned well. The beetroot dip was a bit zesty for me but loved the mushroom creation dip! Cake was thick and rich, I liked it but my bum didn't!
Warm and cosy inside on a Saturday night.
The waiter showed us to our table and brought water and menus straight away.
We chose warm olives with lemon, Rosemary and Chilli. Soon after the trio of dips arrived.
We enjoyed a couple of glasses of sparkling Australian wine with our entrees.
Soon after the mains and a side of asparagus with toasted almonds were brought out. My green risotto with goats cheese was delicious. Nutty and toast and very pretty to look at. The pizza was crisp and light and not oily at all. We chose a huge piece of honeycomb cake to take home with us and enjoy. Good service, great food.
Visited this place for a light lunch in summer & had the best bruschetta I've ever had. It was amazing! Food is very tasty & service was great. Convenient location near south Yarra station. Will definitely go again.
I went to cafe republic last night with my boyfriend and both of us agreed the food was incredible. I had the Morton bay bug pasta, which was lovely and really generous with the bug meat! My boyfriend had the pumpkin and prosciutto pasta, which I was lucky enough to get a sneaky taste and it was also delicious. Cleaned both plates, which is a very good sign. I had a slice of the honeycomb cake for dessert and it was delightfully indulgent, a bit rich and I couldn't finish it but still amazing.
Will definitely be coming here again! 😍
Fantastic food and service. Walked in the door and the barista greeted us straight away with a very friendly smile. It was a very busy Sunday but we weren't made to feel rushed at all. The lady who served us was very friendly and attentive. The food was very well plated and great portion size. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu
The meals were really substantial and I could only eat half of mine. The friends I was with also didn't manage to eat everything on their plates. The restaurant was pumping and full of people I was amazed that service was a bit sluggish but understandable.
I'd visit again to give things a second go as I do with places I like....
I found this in the toilet which I found rather unsettling and hope that it never is used
Service, food, coffee and atmosphere is spot on. No pretenciousness and no hipsters - just doing what they do best. Can get busy on a Saturday morning but they run a tight ship.
Been there a while ago, ordered mango cheesecake, lavender grey tea , strong cappuccino & crispy calamari. Food was good . Love the flavor of the tea . The cake was so big that we can't even finish it . Overall , good cafe , good services. I. Guess we Will visit soon
What a unexpected great find. We we're in a rush this morning and after quick breakfast. Choosing Cafe Republic because it was much quieter than near by cafes and it exceeded our expectations. We sat by the window watching Toorak road morning traffic go by, ordering the mushrooms dish. I particularly like the chefs creativity with this dish. It was a yummy tasty breakfast which was carb free using mushrooms instead of bread.
Decent food and happy hour wine. Good antipasto and not too expensive. Good selection of cakes and allowed us to try two smaller slices of cakes very accommodating.
Been in the last few days and the breakfast here has been outstanding. The mini egg bacon brioche rolls are a perfect snack, breakfast burritos are gorgeous with a slight chilli buzz, Benedict best in the area (big call) and coffee is great too! They do fresh juices and lots of outdoor seats too.
Our second time here. Delicious brunch and comfy setting, very near the train station. Loved the big breakfast and the avocado feta smash! Wide selection menu for lunch and dinner too
Situated corner opposite to south Yarra station. This is a cafe I frequent after meetings at Bruce Henderson architects. Nice and friendly staff with good coffee and food's
Been here for breakfast, dinner or just a drink and I never get tired. The staff is very friendly and the food nice. Sometimes it takes a while to get what you have ordered but at the end it compensates.
My partner had his 50th birthday here. As always, Services was fantastic and the food amazing. Thank you so much republic for spoling us on pauls birthday. Will and always recommended you to all my friends and family
I've only tried the coffee and I'd say it was perfect. The staff were quite friendly too which is always a plus. Desserts in the display fridge looked amazing.
My friend and I had tiger prawn pizza and it was great! It is so nice when you can actually see and taste the prawns on pizza, unlike many other places who just sprinkle prawns that can be counted with fingers (yes, the ones that you only get 1 prawn per slice or sometimes none at all). The thai beef salad was fantastic! The sauce they use, whatever that is, is soooo yum. The staff are very lovely, funny and attentive. Will definitely come back.
We liked the chili prawn and scallop penne. Beats the burger and the scotch steak (cooked medium rare), though they were all passable. Friendly and attentive staff will likely make this place a regular easy eat for us.
Been here coup;e of times and it is good cafe set up .Salads are fresh and Coffee and cake in the afternoon is what i like here with there cake display that changes daily.Outside seating is cozy but little noisy from all the traffic on Toorak road and forget about parking. We just walk here.
Never a let down. Great go to cafe! Staff always friendly and inviting, good coffee and tasty meals! All around a fantastic venue!! Will keep returning
My favourite cafe in Melbourne. I love this place. The food is delicious and it has a great atmosphere. My friend and I shared the tasting plate and it was more then enough food for both of us for only $21. The caramel / banana cake is amazeballs! I have been there three times and I don't even live in Melbourne.
The meals here are great however the service is quite slow and waiters are quite rude. If I wanted hipster attitude I would head over the river. Highly recommend the calamari or the fish and chips - the watermelon & feta salad changed my life!
Great food and coffee! The service however has been a bit off the few times we have been here (forgetting meals, very slow ect.) To the staffs credit they are always apologetic and very friendly.
Really good. Great coffee, excellent service. I had the Big Republic and it was delicious. Will return.
Loving having brunch here on a Sunday always good food and great coffee friendly staff massive thumbs up!
Good Vibe. Good food, reasonably priced and attentive staff. Dining on my own for the first time at Cafe Republic was made to feel very welcome. Daniel does a great job as person in charge.
Staff always super friendly, nice strong coffee, great breakfast.
Dinner. Great food, generous servings and great service, definitely will com back. Enjoyed the venue, relaxed atmosphere, thank you
Great service, good coffee and the baked eggs were really good
Great party venue and excellent service manner. We recently hosted a baby shower at Cafe Repbulic for a group of 15. Had very specific requests about food and ensuring we kept within budget. Daniel was incredibly accommodating and even suggested/offered alternatives and ideas to meet our plan for an afternoon tea.
All the canapés were done very well, sweets to die for and Elise our waitress was so friendly and accommodating. The restaurant has a little private area out the back which is great if you want a private function, within a limited budget. Great vibe.
Come here all the time, service is always very good, food is always incredible! Would have to say out of 20 meals ive had here only one i wasnt impressed with (pork belly) but i would highly recommend thai beef salad, braised lamb salad, wagyu sliders and the proscuitto pizza!
Thank you Melbourne!!!. Visiting Melbourne and walked past cafe republic in south yarra and decided to try this place out. For a Wednesday night this place was buzzing, was greeted immediately and sat by our waiter Dan.I was recommended the calamari entrée and when it arrived i can only describe as YUM!!! its been a long time since i have had calamari this good. for my main, eye fillet steak, cooked to perfection and the glass of wine as recommended by my waiter was perfectly matched to the steak. upon leaving we had ever staff member say good night, one of my best dinning experiences. great food and exceptional staff highly recommended venue, thank you and see you next time im in town.
Enjoyed Brunch here. Good eggs and coffee. Friendly staff and casual environment. Will return.
Breakfast. I liked there big breakfast. It was BIG and tasty.
Dips were delicious! All the food was well presented and tasteful. Staff helpful. Good night lighting! Hate restaurants that have minimal light to even read a menu. Clean and inviting! I'll be back!!
Amazing dessert, we shared the apple and rhubarb cumble and it was 10/10
Awesome place, friendly staff, good food. That's all I was looking for in south yarra , I live in that aerea and I always do at least 1 meal a day in this restaurant. For breakfast as well is a good place, nice coffee, nice short macchiato!
Not bad, coffee 6.7/10, had the most expensive big breakfast i've seen on a menu @ $26 lol
I had late lunch here, I ordered rose wine and seafood spaghetti. Food was absolutely delicious!!
Service was also good. I really recommend here.
Great. Everytime I have gone there the service has been really amazing and food is really delicious and fresh. I am becoming a regular because it is so good and great value for money.
Food was excellent the service was also very good. A wee bit noisy though
Love the Latte. Few make such good coffee latte. Greate food and welcoming staff.
Consistently excellent. My favourite Saturday morning hangover remedy. Good coffee, friendly and responsive service, and the food is clearly made with pride. In a neighbourhood where there are plenty of good places to eat, this one is a standout. If they had draught beer on tap, I would probably live here.
Came in from interstate this morning and needed my hit of cafine walked into cafe rep and felt like I was family. Beautiful breakfast menu to accompany the coffee made by the lovely barista jack who ain't too bad on the eyes. Definitely will be returning before I leave
Good experiance. Went there with the family. The place has good atmosphere and the service was quick and efficient. We had the cherry tomatoes brochette and calamari for start and both have been very good. For main we tried the bara, the burger and the stake, all cook to perfection and tasted very well. All in all, good experience and will come back again.
Great menu selection backed with well made and presented food topped off with friendly and attentive service.
Took our 14 month old with us as well which can be a bit nerve racking, but were well accommodated and a high chair was out before we even asked.
The drinks menu is also put together well with a mix of local ciders, craft beers and the commercial labels.
Something for everyone.
Cider drinkers have to give the fog city cloudy a go.
Well done all round cafe republic.
Amazing! Service was perfect. Food was even better. I had a steak and beer battered fries, hands down best steak in a long time, and the fries were perfectly seasoned. Lamb skewers for entree were melt in the mouth yummy! Recommend!
Great place! Best salads ever - I always go back for the Thai beef salad! Value for money - never let's me down...yum! Very friendly staff.
Really great coffee. Good breakfast menu. Plenty of room, nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Lovely breakfast and excellent service.
Great venue great location and nice simple food with prices to match..service was also nice and friendly..always important..will be back
Breakfast. Great breakfast, had the pancakes and they were awesome my mate had the big breakfast and the potatoe cake was home made and just as as good . Service was excellent . Will Definetely be back
We had the pleasure of experiencing cafe republic tonight. Although it was a busy night, the food and service was exceptional! The best steak and seafood we had in a long time!! Will definitely be coming back!
Great experience!. Went to Cafe Republic for dinner on Saturday night. Staff were very attentive and the Manager (Mark i think) went out of his way to ensure we had a pleasant experience. The Fish of the day was delicious! This place is definitely worth visiting. You will get looked after and the food is magnificent!
This place is amazing. Coffee here is phenomenal! Service is fast and friend and to top it off, the Tiger Prawn pizza is to die for. 10/10
Saturday afternoon lunch and desert.... Awesome.
I'm surprised the ranks so poorly. Not a fan of South Yarra, but this place is worth going there for. The Thai beef salad was one of the best I've had - generous amounts of melt-in-the-mouth beef slices; mountains of fresh rocket; and the perfect amount (i.e. lots) of toasted cashews. Friendly, attentive service too.
This restaurant has a great atmosphere for any social occasion. Whether you are coming in for coffee, drinking with the friends or taking a girl on a dinner date, Cafe Republic is great! The chef's menu is affordable and delicious. If you are looking for outstanding food and service this is the place to go
Brekkie bonus. We've only ever been for breakfast and 9/10 it's been great.
Swift service, great food and consistently good coffee.
Sometimes, during the busy periods it's a good idea to order your meals with your drinks so that you don't get lost in the crowd.
Not bad for a Saturday morning brekkie trip.
Great place awesome staff definitely will be back thanks guys
We eat here all the time! The breakfasts are delicious and the tapioca prawns are a perfect starter or even just as a snack. The salads are well made with quality ingredients and the pizzas have the best thin crust in town!
The best coffee in South Yarra. The coffee is definitely the best in South Yarra. It is consistently good.i also love the french toast, pizzas and burger. The specials are excellent value - $15 for a pizza and wine/beer on Wednesday night - you can't go wrong with that! You will see all the locals flock here. Paul knows everyone by name - think Cheers people! If you need a great place to meet in South Yarra you cannot go past this place for the lovely ambience and service. Unlike most places in South Yarra you can actually enjoy the sunshine.
Food was amazing. Service was even better. The brunette girl that served us is a true asset to the business!
On behalf of Cafe Republic, I'd like to apologise to the table that reviewed us from grand final day. We agree this was a day that caught us both unprepared and understaffed. I'm sure your experience was less than average. We can only take the good from the bad and be more prepared when a day like this happens. I'd hope for you to come back to us and let us serve you the way you should have been served the first time. This is embarrassing for us, but please know that it was never our intention for you have such a disappointing experience. Thank you for your feedback, Paul & staff Cafe Republic
In snob central - you can't beat cafe repub for coffee! Two of the best baristas in Melbourne - Alex and Jack. Try their coffees - you won't be disappointed like elsewhere round the Yarra!!! Love u boys every am ;)
Came to cafe republic for dinner on a really lovely night. sat outside but lookibg in the restaurant sitting inside could be like sitting outside.
service was friendly food was great the wine list is good. the coffee needs some work but my experience here was very good. will be back forsure and all my friends will be back aswell
One hell of a breakfast. Went out this morning and had the big breakfast and it was totally awesome! Wonderful coffee, brilliant chorizo and great service. I loved the chocolate syrup in the mocha coffee.
Good breakfast and great coffee. We there for breakfast and enjoyed the food. We had the republic big breakfast which was reasonable for the price and everything was cooked well. The Mocha coffee is really great and comes with just the right amount of foam and chocolate syrup.
Great Service & Food. Had a great meal mussels for entree followed up with a a lovely Atlantic Salmom steak
Meal great, i even spoke to Chef Mark and congratulated him
He was great even introduced me to the latest menu which him and Paul have introduced to keep up with spring and also another variety for the customers
Great meal & sevice recommend to all
The breakfasts are good. But the service is hit and miss. I have been sitting here for 10 minutes without even a glass of water!
Best Burger in Melbourne. I go to Cafe Republic 3 times a week normally and for the first time I had their Wagyu Beef Burger.
OH MY GOD! Better than Grilld burger hands down. The salads are great but the burger was outstanding!
I went with a friend the other day for an offerer work drink, and we sat outside, we were completely ignored by the staff, after 23 minutes I went in to the bar to ask for a menu and an ashtray.
17 minutes later I went back in to place our order only after the waiter whom we saw on arrival eating at a table (fair enough it may have been her break) come out and service an adjacent table and after asking "excuse me" we were ignored for service which is why I went in. It took 19 minutes for a glass of wine and a smoothie so a tad annoying waiting almost an hour, however out discussion added to the time passing.
After some
Time politely requesting another glass of wine, the waitress presented herself outside offering to fill up the glass of wine I was drinking or fill the empty one up (I work in hospitality, it's manners to always give a clean glass) after requesting a clean glass and asking for water again, I recieved the glass way above the standard, no water (bad practice of RSA)
We left only because after we were welcomed to continue and enjoy ourselves the waitresses were passing a few stares and finger tapping to us which felt unwelcoming.
It's decor is amazing however the staff are clearly in experienced in hospitality, let alone follow rsa procedures, I will deffinetly be informing my family and friends not to waste their time nor money at a venue which clearly has no
Customer rapport nor knowledge of service. Its worse than service at an afl match...
Enjoyed the breakfast this morning. Prompt friendly service and nice sized portions cooked to perfection.
Positive +++++. Love the vibe, love the service, love the location and love the specials......but the biggest love is saved for the best Eggs Benedict around these parts....end of!
What would I change?....one thing ....sometimes I would love to hear some Oasis from the speakers...now if ever you need assistance with this, just ask the Pommie bloke who orders Eggs Benedict
Very accommodating. Went with a group of friend visiting us in Melbourne. They had a little toddler and the waiter immediate attended to the child with a high chair and made sure we all ordered drinks.
We were stopping for cakes and coffee. They even made the toddler some frothed milk in an espresso cup so he could feel like he was in with the crowd of adults drinking coffee!
We ordered slices of cake from the fresh refrigerated cake section by the counter. Slices were large and plentiful.
Would definitely go back...
Ms. jan berger. This cafe was introduced by groupon.
had an excellent meal...would have been better if our meals were not soooooo restricted with groupon ..... whereby we could pay the difference,
service was courteous and prompt.
The S.P.L.A.T. for breakfast is a revelation. Ask for it by name as it's not specifically called that on the menu.
It's a BLT with avocado and scrambled eggs on on toasted turkish bread... scrambled eggs, who knew?
Csstudly8. Really great value. Went for their Monday steak special which was a 250g sirloin chips and salad. Included a glass of wine. Value for money or what? I was a bit sceptical at the price but the cut of meat was tender and flavoursome. Went back the next night for Pizza special. Equally reat value and quality. I will be back!
Friendly Service and Great Food. Doesnt matter whether its your first time or a regular youll always be greeted like you have known these guys for years! Amazing breakfasts and just recently had their chorizo and tiger prawn pizza which was fantastic (nice thin base with small fresh toppings!).
Nothing too special here... I went here during an unsually quiet night out, probably because it was the Oz Open Women Final.. so the bf and I basically have the whole indoor area ourselves.
My salmon was a bit salty here and there but it was cooked to perfection. I just think that they didn't blend the salt well enough. My bf's lamb risotto was good. It wasn't as great but it's good.
Relaxed casual place. Great location. Great on a warm night and the food is pretty decent. Menu is also quite good. No fuss and delivers!
Went here with my fiancé, they really looked after us, great food cooked beautifully and really friendly staff! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!
Love this place. Has to be the best salad in Melbourne. My partner & I drive from Flemington just for the Asian Chicken Salad. Most places do great tasting but small salads. This place over delivers everytime. Also, the pumpkin soup is rad. They put some ginger & corriendar flavour in it which is a great blend. Overall 10/10
Best (Asian) Salad ever! Great service - friendly staff. Love the environment. Great for a Sunny Saturday like today :-)
Great Weekday Lunch. I dropped by for Lunch Yesterday, Fantastic service and the Food was so fresh and great tasting. The service was fantastic, quick and affective, we didnt have long for lunch and they ticked all the boxes. Will be Back for Sure.. We used the booking online to book, which was also fantastic - website also very informative.
Cafe Republic at first glance looks just like any other busy, pretentious South Yarra Cafe, but don't be fooled. The staff are quite attentive and friendly, the food for a cafe of this type was extraordinarily good, and the selection of beer n wine surprisingly generous. We opened with the Calamari Entree and the Chicken n Pine nut Pizza, both of which were delicious. The only criticism I would have is that the music was a tad too loud. Otherwise a great night was had by all.
Terrific experience using an OurDeal voucher...lovely service & atmosphere, delicious food, will definitely be back again!
Excquisite food & extraordinary value. I went to this place with a girl I've been seeing, I actually had a voucher for it and when I saw some reviews I was a little nervous but it was an excellent experience & I'm definitely a fan.
The food was very well done, i guess it comes under the banner of 'modern australian' or contemporary but it was delicious (eg, spiced lamb salad, perfectly cooked calamari) & very well presented.
The setting is great with fun tunes ticking away in the background and the service was solid.
As I said, I had a voucher but the menu looked competitively priced for food that I would say is well above average - only complaint is that my pants are now a tighter fit after the macadamia white chocolate cake for desert!
YUMMY for my TUMMY. I went to Cafe Republic for the first time 2 months ago. I LOVED IT! The staff were so friendly and the food was DELICIOUS! The bircher museli and eggs benedict are 2 must try brekkies. The pizza is PERECTOOOOO! And the STEAK... OHH MYY! I say go in to Cafe Republic, have a meal and believe you me, you will be there at least once a week. They really make you feel welcome... The blondie is a bit of a spunk too for the single ladies eyes!
This cafe is deffinatly making a statement in the sth yarra cafe food scene. When I dined in I was greeted with a cute smile behined the coffee machine. The music fitted to the whole atmosphere. There was about 16 - 20 people but still very spacey. The food i received for lunch was at a high standard. Was alot more then I expected when I walked in. The flavors and presentation is spot on. I now keep going back as the coffees great,'food is amazing and just a realy good place to zone out and relax.
Fine Drops Food & Wine Society. Our first Fine Drops event for 2010 has set an absolute bench mark for the rest of the year, thanks to the hospitality of the staff at Café Republic.
With an attendance of 21 this time, we were not the easiest group to cater for, but I feel the whole team adapted to our chaos with ease.
Darren (Chef) truly displayed his eagerness to impress the group from word go, with a selection of beautifully presented entrées, including; prosciutto wrapped prawns served in a chilled rock melon & mint soup; pan seared scallop & chorizo on parsnip crisp; but the majorities favourite being the sugar cured salmon with pear & mango/apple salsa.
For mains we had a choice of grilled eye fillet with celeriac purée; or blue grenadier fillet marinated in olive oil, capers & lemon juice. While both dishes had their charm the general consensus was that the steak was a must try!
Overall the service was amazing (even when working under pressure), the atmosphere was intimate, food presentation definitely deserves a mention, and the tastes did not disappoint.
Once again we thank everyone at Café Republic for a great night and great start to the year!
Great place, love it!. Had lunch today, place was very busy but got looked after straight away by the friendly waiter. Restaurant was very busy but I did not find the wait to be unreasonable. Ordered the chicken caesar salad which was fantastic, chicken very tender and salad crisp, exceeded my expectations. Wine was a beautiful drop and very reasonably priced for the quality. Coffee was amazing and well presented. Will definitely be coming back and recommend it to visit.
Attention: a regular is speaking!. Great spot.. Great staff.. Great food.. Great take-away coffee.. What else do you want?
Ps. Try their baked fettuccine. It sells itself!
A lovely experience. The owners been through hard times and I can happily say this place has bounced back and is back on the rise! A lovely lighter roast for your coffee, and a bit of a sweeter matcha if you're not a big fan of the more bitter flavours. Ordered the Porterhouse Sandwich (minus the avocado) - very tender and tasty, would recommend adding a side of Sriracha aioli. Also ordered the Linguini Marinara, a little bit too salty but otherwise cooked well. Always recommend
One of our faves in South Yarra. This is such a great spot. Staff are super friendly, they have a fab happy hour, their food and desserts are delicious. Love, love, love it here!
Already love this place. Open early mornings even if it is Saturday. The best coffee and brekkie ! Now, I want to try all menu items! Also, I want to be here when it’s raining outside.
We went there to have out daily cafe. The place located in a very busy road in this case we prefer the outdoor seating. The seating were great and the staff were helpful and friendly. The drinks was ok little strong. But at least we enjoyed our time setting in a table beside the street.
"Fast, efficient and delectable."
I took a chance with this restaurant as I originally wanted to have Japanese further up the road but they weren't open. It was to my fortune as I ended up enjoying my meal at Cafe Republic. The restaurant itself is spacious and sports bright light timber floors and tables. This light motif is accompanied by large windows which offer great views of Toorak Rd.
I ordered the Satay Chicken and glad I did! The serve of rice provided with the skewered, beautifully marinated chicken was so filling as an entree dish. I finished every bite and passed the complements to the chef. The sweeter satay sauce worker the dish's favour.
I decided to treat myself and order the mango cheesecake and wow was I surprise with the serving. I would recommend this be orders as a share because aside form the massive slice of cheesecake you get, there is also additional cream and a scoop of ice cream provided.
Camille and Ilse were absolutely exceptional with their table service and customer rapport. Had a lovely chat to them as I paid and made sure to tell them how much I enjoyed my time at the café. Make sure to check this place out, you will not be disappointed.
A wonderful place to gather and celebrate with the new federal member for Higgins, Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah
One of my fav cafes in South Yarra. Excellent location with street seating, yummy breakfast options and rich menu for the rest of the day. They open 7 days a week which is a plus! The staff were friendly and hospitable.
