have put reviews in lots of different places. It is just terrific. I recommend it to everyone.
It is a relaxing and happy restaurant. The best Korean food.
very nice and warm welcome from the staff
We ordered take away because it's local and we want to support businesses in our area during lockdown. We had the seafood pancake, spicy beef bibimbap and the Korean fried chicken. All the dishes were fantastic and we will definitely be using them again and look forward to being able to dine inside.
Cozy nice place, super friendly staff and a nice place to chill, though they don’t have lettuce included, they probably just replaced it with salad, it was great for the budget as it includes rice. The skewers were amazing. Would definitely go back. Lovely place for a date.
A very local Korean restaurant, the interior of SubiQ looks like it was previously a German pub with
exposed brick and large wooden tables. They've made good use of the space, as tables go all the way through to the back, and they even have
*Spicy Pork Bibimbap - love stonepot bibimbap, it keeps everything hot and if you don't disturb the rice at the bottom, it will crisp up. The serving is quite big and the veggies on top are finely cut. It's served with the traditional sweet garlicky chilli sauce, but also with a sweet tangy soy sauce. Both go really well in the rice when you mix it up.
It's served with complimentary side dishes, which a lot are pickled - radish, red cabbage, kimchi and a potato mash. The pickles actually go really well with the heaviness of the bibimbap.
While it's not charcoal BBQ, the sets are pretty good value and worth a go anyway.
Service was very friendly!
A re-introduction of Korean bbq to my dad came out excellent. Our family enjoyed the busan set for 2, KFC, mushroom pancake and kimchi stew. Our griller had some problems heating and the waitress was very apologetic, which was eventually fixed by the manager. Very good service overall and enjoyable dinner with the parents. Will definitely come back again one day!
Nothing fancy about this place. Nice, friendly and warm service. Food was good too. Reasonably priced bbq set - for our family of 4, we ordered the set for 3 and along with a couple of entrees and pancake, it was more than enough. Compared to another korean bbq that we have been to, it was good value. We did pay more for the wagyu but it was yummy and wished there was more of it!
Glad we were at this side of town and decided to try this place. Happy to come back for a meal again.
Amazing food, true bimimbap is especially good. It is BYO with a bottle shop a few doors down. The service is friendly but slow - well worth it for the food! Yum
Amazing food. Clean and comfortable place for dinner. Good service. Friendly staff. The seafood pancake is yum and not that oil. The angus beef is very high quality. I definitely would come again and again and again and again 😊
Best Korean restaurant in Melbourne. Service is pretty good. Seafood pancake is very crispy. And bbq set menu is very good price. So delicious
Food: great kbbq, must get the wagyu short ribs and spicy port belly and neck are musts! Be careful though they have a bit of a kick! 🌶🌶 kimchi is house made and 10/10 and soups are amazing. Entrees are on the average side so stick to the bbq.
Service: friendly staff, engaging and fun when cooking for u and don’t make u feel awkward when cooking in front of u (which sometimes at other places we get this weird vibe.)
Ambiance: Long skinny resto, lacking air con and the roof leaks on the back room,
Overall the food and service is great, when u order meat don’t bother with bulogi just tastes like it’s been sitting in soy sauce for 100 years so go for the more quality meats
Happy eating 🌶🌶🥩🥩

It was my first to visit this restaurant.
I had BBQ set for 2 people and added seafood pancake. It 's very Korean and let me tell you It was amazing! Combination of meat and Korean bbq sauce was awesome. There are 4 side dishes - pickled cabbage, mash potato, fish cake and kimchi.
Servers are very kind and super friendly. They explained how to cook Korean bbq with lovely smile.
So happy to find perfect Korean restaurant. We will definitely go again!
Holy Moly!
Things just got serious...seriously amazing, seriously epic, and seriously delicious. It has been a while since I've been so energised ans enthusiastic about a new restaurant.
The food was fantastic, with tones of flavour, lots of entrees and banchan accompanying the BBQ set menus that offer great value.
And to compliment great food is even greater service from super friendly and attentive servers that will perfectly cook your meats.
I'm super grateful to my friend for suggesting to try a new korean bbq spot because it has shot to the top of my favourite korean bbq places.
I'm definitely, DEFINITELY going back for more!
My frienda and I ordered the Seoul BBQ set, choosing the spicy pork belly and crazy marbleised ribs with an extra serving of chicken to bbq. The set menu is recommended for 2 people, and while they had a 3 person BBQ set, we really wanted the takoyaki and kimchi stew (which definitely was the right call).
Loved that they refilled the banchan (kimchi and other small sides) and sauces, and offered extra cheese and corn and veggies when they saw how keen we were on it all.
can't recommend this place more!!
Yesterday we had a awesome dinner here. It’s my second visit. I came here with a strong introduction from my friend. We ordered BBQ set. Thirty-nine dollars was not believed for 2 people. I ate beef bulgogi and pork neck. Bulgogi was incredibly delicious. So I ordered some more Sizzling Bulgogi. It was the best. It was very kind and thanks to the interested staff. I saw the customer at the next table eating the best Korean pancakes. I will try Korean pancakes next time.
I LOVE THIS PLACE OMG and I love the staff, they are so friendly and nice! The chef even came out to help us grill the beef and explained how it works. The beef bulgogi was tender, fresh and delicious. Will definitely come back again.
Great service - really cheerful and attentive staff. Food also lovely, with no long wait times. Really enjoyed the Korean pancake - packed full of veggies.
Such beautiful people! Had a very delicious meal, made even better by the amazing service. We enjoyed the Korean bbq and the spicy seafood soup, soup was the real stand out. We will definitely make this a regular spot!
Good food, reasonable price, fantastic environment and attentive service. Had korean bbq here today and fried chicken(but forgot to take a picture of the bbq :(). Both the meat and complementary side dishes were very tasty. Fry chicken was different from other korean restaurant but it was not bad. Will come back sometime to try other dishes.
Came for dinner last night with work colleagues, and had the best dinner experience and a great evening! Had been looking forward to this dinner all week as I’m Korean, and had been craving good homely Korean food for aaaaaages.
The restaurant is surprisingly big, very well-decorated, with a lovely atmosphere making great use of fairy lights.
For the 5 of us, with help from the waitress, we decided to go with the Premium BBQ Set (which came with a great selection of meat and a variety of different authentic dishes), a kimchi stew, and the mildest version of their hot spicy chicken with cheese for my non-Asian colleagues XD. Cannot fault a single thing... every meat we were presented with was fresh, delicious, and a special shout out to the marbling on the angus steak and wagyu short rib... it was beautiful. The waitresses were so attentive and helpful the whole time; checking the meat as it was cooking when they passed by, cutting it for us and controlling the temperature of the cooking plate for us too.
The prawn tempura was delicious, well battered, crunchy and was paired perfectly with pink pickled radish and sauce. The beef japchae was flavourful and so so good, it reminded me of my mum’s cooking. The seafood pancake was also authentic, tasty, crispy, and had a generous amount of various seafood throughout it. The salmon salad had lovely fresh greens and a nice sauce that balanced the ingredients well. The four sides of kimchi, pickled radish, mashed potato and pickles complemented everything well and was refilled many times throughout our meal.
We left feeling full and happy; our entire dinner experience was perfect. Will definitely be back! So happy to have found an authentic Korean restaurant nearby.
I love the restaurant. They served Authentic delicious Korean food as I expected. If you can't decide what to eat, the owners or the staff will help you and describe what the food is like. Their recommendation worked very well for me. I'm a huge fan of spicy food and their spicy chicken was 10 out of 10.
The atmosphere is also cosy and lovely. I'll definitely come back again!
I love Subi Q. BBQ set meal is a good deal. We tried beef and spicy chicken and both were good. Staffs are always friendly and polite. I wanna visit again and again (^-^)
I was delighted with this place. Having lived in Korea for two years, I get a bit frustrated when I go to a restaurant that lacks a little in authenticity. No problems here, it was wonderful. I'm so pleased that I found it and I'm more than happy to recommend it to any body.
The kimchi is free with main course dishes, which are all excellent. I saw that the Korean owners were more than happy to advise customers who hadn't tried Korean food before, which was a nice touch.
The food is wonderful, full of flavour, and well priced. If you like Korean food, or want to try it, and you're anywhere close by, I say go for it - You'll be satisfied with what these guys have to offer.
Enjoy!
To explain about this restaurant that I love the most ... The spirit of the service to the guests is so beautiful and sometimes so grateful. You can't say what's best about food. Because everything is really delicious. And the price is really reasonable. Be sure to succeed.
Great food. Lovely people who own the business. Fresh and flavoursome. Just got to get the people here. Everyone should try this gem. Been here numerous times and introduced lots of our friends. Everyone has loved it.....our favourites are seafood pancake and spicy pork bibimbap....yummy!!
One of the rare Korean restaurant within the South Yarra vicinity. The front of the restaurant have a cafe vibe whereas the back is suited for bigger groups. They also have couple of outdoor seatings for sunny day. The food is suprisingly authentic and not really westernised. It's a shame we have to pay for kimchi and no other side dishes. It was apparently home made but was not worth paying for, should have given it for free. The udon was chewy and have a refreshing sauce that goes with it.
It was my first time to visit and the food was really delicious. Especially seafood pancake and soy beef sisling were the best Deserve to come again
Food 1.5: delicious Korean food! 😋
Service 1: superb! Attentive!
Atmosphere & decor 2: love the decoration - romantic! Date night for sure 😉
I ate Kimchi jun(korean style pizza mainly made by kimchi) and Sundubu chigae(soft tofu soup with seafood).
Both of them were really delicious and not that spicy.
I recommend to you western guys these menu.
Especially in the rainy day, many many Koreans eat Kimchi jun and Soju.
And Sundubu chigae is a sort of, soul food of Koreans. I could see even scallops in it! I have never had Sundubu chigae in nowhere else. Never in Korea, of course.
You won't regret to be here. Recommended!
Very good restaurant in Korean mixed Japanese style!
Have never had the seafood pancake in such delicious taste! Salmon plate was super worth. Didn't expect that the portion is so big and they served the sushi with purple rice which is creative. Sashimi was so fresh!
Salmon Bibimbab was very yummy as well!
Super friendly Staff and the price definitely worth! Spent $55 only for all the dishes.

Love this place !!!
Seafood pancake and their soups (tofu & kimchi soup) are to die for ...
Small and intimate joint with friendly service.
They also stock Korean beer, Try CASS beer, you'll love it !!!
Simple family run restaurant with great tasting food. Being pescatarian my options here are limited, yet I have been here at least 5 times and brought family and friends here. Love the japche and the fried salmon in sweet and sour sauce.
A small restaurant content high standard homemade Korean food with very friendly service. Love the mushroom pancake, and kimchi strew, real Korean taste.
Strongly recommended for gathering dinner, warm and cosy ~
Delicious fresh food and friendly staffs. Whenever we dine in we always were satisfied with their service and food. Highly recommend to anyone who like to try authentic Korean food.
Nice Korean place. Try their Bulgogis and seafood pancake as they are very nice. Like many Korean places, not many gluten free choices though (but if you ask they will cook without soy or wheat on some.)
Also there was a sign tgat says this place will close from next week and reopen from 16th June 2016.
Ripper food. First time Korean but won't be our last. Food is very fresh and tasty with a nice bit of bite. Tangy pork was terrific. Loved the ambience and service is efficient but very discreet
Will recommend to our friends
The Whippeteers just returned from a night at Subi Q. We loved it!
Words to describe Subi Q: quiet & intimate. Perfect Korean food.
Our favorites are the Seafood pancake and the Spicy Octopus.
Not a place with a hipster vibe. Chilled. A place to have a meal with loved ones. A family run restaurant. Not the fastest service. So go there, order, relax...and your wait will be rewarded.
(Licensed & BYO. There is a bottle shop next door).
We had a takeaway bimbimbap. It was better than when I last ate this when I flew business class on Korean Air. Generous, delicious and addictive.
Friendly staff beautiful food highly underrated. The ambience is soft and welcoming Stupid good value for the quality of food just come and give it a go.
Subi Q is amazing. Hope it's not undiscovered for too long. Delicious food. Lovely surroundings. Opposite Prahran police station, you should get locked up for not giving this place a try.
This place is a hidden gem. Flavoursome Korean food with great service. Quaint, laid back setting. Family run. The food can take a while sometimes, but it's worth waiting for. One of our favourites, especially in winter.
The perfect local! Friendly staff and great quality food at a great price. I recently found this hidden gem and I've quickly become a regular. I order the same thing every time - Kim Chi Stew/soup - and it is perfect.
Atmosphere - warm and cozy. I always feel relaxed and comfortable here.
Staff - so friendly and just lovely. Everyone from the waiter to the chef (who sometimes bring you your food) are all very friendly and super polite.
Quality of the food - The Kim Chi Stew is perfect. Best quality I've tried in Melbourne yet. It's a simple dish, but you can tell they take care in preparing it every time. Fresh ingredients and the side dishes are always changing and so deliciously creative (not the out-of-the-box you find in most Korean restaurants)
Price - very reasonable and on par with other Korean restaurants, but the quality can't be beat, so it's great value.
It's a joy to come here. I highly recommend it, but I also want to keep this a secret haunt so I can have it all to myself :)
The only thing I'm disappointed by is that it's closed Mon-Wed - I'd love to have an early/mid week night out and this place would be perfect.
Subi Q - the best korean food. I love this place, great food at affordable prices 10/10 everytime :)
I love this place!. This is our favourite spot in the village. The food is fantastic, the staff are so lovely and our waiter is our favourite waiter ever! The prices are great! Nice cosy atmosphere with quirky decor, easy to get parking and we are so pleased that it is getting busier and busier as the owners and staff deserve the recognition. It's also quiet inside.
Great find!!. I came across Subi Q walking past and came in last night for dinner with my partner and baby and had one of the best meals in the area.
The interior fit out is beautiful. Inside is very chic then there is an outdoor area that goes on forever. Really beautiful!
We ordered the deep fried chicken starter and for the price I expected a few tiny bits of chicken yet we got a huge plate of gorgeous chicken with a tasty fresh salad and mayo. Great value.
The beef bulgogi was a huge serve of soft beef in a fresh ginger soy sauce with heaps of sprouts. Delicious. The chicken teriyaki was again a great serve and the chicken wasn't fatty - which you usually get when you pay low prices.
Our waiter was one of the best we've had and full of life and was genuinely happy to be there. The bill was $48. We haven't had such a great meal for under $50 in a long time.
BYO wine was also a great addition! Definitely coming back next week!!
Very good authentic Korean food!. How underrated is this place?? price is resonable, portion is generous and most importantly it was very YUM! the place is considerably very quiet which is contradicting to the quality of food. staff was friendly and welcoming. would definitely go here again and again and again... so glad we tried this place out! thank you again Subi Q for such an amazing experience!
Awesome local place. Love this restaurant. Very nice atmosphere with really consistent friendly service. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. Would recommend heading to the back where there is a relaxing atmosphere and beautiful water feature.
We came on our date night. The waiter was just the happiest guy I've ever come across, food was amazing, come a little slow but hubby and i had a lot of good conversations with champagne so it was fine. We had sizzling spicy pork and a calamari bibimbap - both tasted amazing! Will definitely be back to this local place.
Having eaten here more than a dozen times, my wife and I can confidently say the food is consistently excellent. Service is terrific, very genuine and friendly. Recommended - spicy pork bulgogi and the beef bibimbab. A great addition to South Yarra/ Hawksburn local dining.
Soooo GOoood!. I went to this place before getting drinks at the Belgian Beer Gardens last night and it was soo good! we all got some form of Bimbimba $15 (i got the beef) , we also got a couple of types of dumplings $4. the food was tasty as, the staff were friendly and the place is so pretty inside. the ponds in the back part of the place had little fish in them and there was a fire place going too. definitely coming back!
resonably priced too.
Awesome place, great service, great food, byo beer what more could you want?
Second time we've been in a year (if it was our local we would have been more often) food still excellent and incredibly good value but we were a bit perplexed as to why half the restaurant was closed off and only a handful of diners on a Friday night! Hope it's not going anywhere, this is a gem of a place that deserves regular patronage. Service a little haphazard but not in an offensive way.
Spontaneous Decision to eat out ... Omg so yummy Recommend to everyone home made Korean food a Treasure waiting to be discovered
What a surprise! Great food, great prices and a really cool ambience. Been twice in three weeks and it passes with flying colours. Be back soon!
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this local restaurant. Food is delicious and plentiful. Will definitely be back.
Great little place..... This has become a favourite little haunt, the food is fresh and delicious and the staff are just lovely, such a nice unpretentious addition to the Hawksburn area - a great little local.
Loved the place! Great food!. Man! I love this place! Discovered it when one of the other nearby eateries couldn't accommodate and was pleasantly surprised! Tasty good food. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff. I love the setting most though - it's like a mini escape.
Friendly service, really tasty food
Can't wait to go back. Loved this place. We had Bibimbap among other things and I've been wanting to eat it again ever since. All of the food was fresh and cooked really well and the gold fish swimming past our table was a really fun touch.
Our only slight negative is it would have been nice to see the waitress a touch more often to order more drinks.
Definitely recommended.
Simply perfect!. Now there are a lot of Korean restaurants in Melbourne, and though the odd mix of Japanese and Korean Dishes this place is perfect! Had some dumplings with friends which were tasty and not too salty. We shared some bulgogi and pork belly.... My stomach still yearns for more.
All in all it was a nice experience, good deco, friendly staff - WILL BE BACK!
A hidden gem. We recently went to this restaurant on a voucher, it was easy to make a reservation. on arrival we were met and greeted and seated promptly. The decor in side is magnificent warm, romantic and cosy yet very spacious. the food arrive in time very well presented and best quality and quantity. the service was a grade, very friendly and helpful.the water feature and the decor with the korean/japanese food was marvelous. Highly recommended. will visit again.
Surprisingly good. Yummy to go with beers and eat with friends! Good service! Perfect ambience!
This place is great, largely due to the decor and really cool outdoor area, HOWEVER, I don't really get it, or know why, but it's never actually open. I wouldn't take a special trip to eat here without a backup plan cause chances are, it will be closed, even during the small window of advertised open times.
Subi q. Enjoy our meal very much. Only $50 for 2 including drinks, entree and main. Lovely flavours, fresh salad, unusual presentation - hot stone bowl with meats, veg and rice mixed with a delicious spicy sauce. I also liked the Asian ambiance - and the room was warm too - important for July. Andy and Chis made us very welcome. Check it out.
Will be back again. Great meal!
We shared two starters and two mains which were all very nice. We also had a very delicious banana fritter recommended by the lovely and very friendly owner. The food was really tasty and fresh and we left feeling full but not gross. Loved the Grampians Pinot.
Good service, good food and fantastic atmosphere, will be back again.
Fantastic!. So glad this place is a local for me! We had the gyoza, spring rolls and tempura for entrees, and the bibimbap and sizzling beef for mains. All were fantastic - particularly the bibimbap which i had never tried before, and very reasonably priced. The owner/chef couldnt have been more helpful, all the staff were great. Would definately recommend this place.
Mimi And Ria's Japanese Rating Guide
+4.5
Mimi & Ria's Japanese Rating Guide. Thursday 5th July - Subi Q in Prahran
Lovely service and very polite (even after it was obvious i lied about us living in Japan).
Food was nice and big ups for the complimentary okonomiyaki and green tea ice cream.
Takoyaki could do with some improvement as they weren't crispy and tasted like frozen ones.
Result: 28.5/50 = Good! Yellow Sticker.
Great food, great atmosphere. Will be coming back for sure!!
Nice Place. Sometimes you come across a cool little place that not everyone knows about and you just want to keep it for yourself. But then again, I do have a big mouth and i have to say that this is my type of place. Small and cosy, with great food and service! Will come back with friends soon.
Better than expected. A little hesitant to sit at the court yard close to the water flow, but it was nice to hear the water sound while eating reasonably nice food. Not much expectation at the first glipmse, but turned out to be a good place for the weekday dinner out. Can't recall the name, but a dish served for free - entertaining! It worked well with the wine we brought.
Best Korean food!. We have now been here twice and it does not disappoint! Service was fantastic and the food was to die for. It's hard to get good Korean in Melbourne in my view and I would highly recommend this place to anyone to try. The atmosphere is inviting with the sound of water flowing and the smell of Korean BBQ with kimchi in the air. Yumo! You do not feel like you are in Melbourne but perhaps somewhere tropical with a Korean spin to it. My fav dishes are the bibimbap and the BBQ marinated chicken is a must try too. The entree squid things are tasty and all portions are very generous. Everything I have tried on the menu I have enjoyed. Wine prices are very attractive too. It is extremely well priced so to all the local South Yarra people, do yourself a favour and get behind this amazing place! Andy the part owner is very attentive and it's a delight to dine at Subi Q. Will definitely keep on going back for more.
Food is awesome..I ordered the chunky beef pot pie and it was yummy..the place has a relaxing ambience with soothing water sound..Like it a lot
Excellent service and an excellent coffee to boot. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the courtyard is very cosy. Definitely coming back here!
Just stopped by for a weekend coffee and it was a really good find. Friendly staff who are clearly trying to build customer relationships and make a name for themselves. Of course they wouldn't be able to do that if their coffee wasn't great, and it sure was
Atmosphere at this Cafe. Enjoyed the intimate different areas to eat and drink so that you did not feel that you were in a hall. If you want atmosphere and a good area to entertain your guests then this is the place. The food menu was varied and tasty but not expensive. I recommend that you try this cafe.
Cheap and great what's more to ask. I work at the police station opposite to the place and a colleague recommended me the place. felt bad for not going there earlier. they make the meanest eggs benedict and the all-u-can-eat lunch buffet is simply awesome...my regular canteen now
Loving the place. Quiet cool little place near Chapel. Great service with awesome food and coffee. I was also impressed by the decoration & atmosphere...it seems those guys really put a lot of thoughts into this. Would recommend it to all coffee lovers!
