Review Yoshi Japanese Restaurant - Yarra

Amazing customer service from entry. Menu is amazing not over the top expensive considering the area. The food is AMAZING and the sake was great too. Will definitely be back. Great little out of the main road restaurant the ladies are so lovely.

Best Japanese restaurant in South Yarra by far! The food never disappoints and the staff are super nice. Their takeaway food is also great so would definitely recommend ordering while we're all in lockdown! My housemates and I ordered a ton of sushi from them for a lockdown birthday and the presentation was amazing and all of the sushi was to die for. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Really delicious Korean food. We got the lovers set and it felt like so much. The quality of the fried chicken wad really good.

I visited Yoshi for a birthday celebration last night and it was a wonderful experience. Friendly service, fresh sashimi, generous portions, reasonable prices and definitely the best Teriyaki sauce we both have ever had. The beef was tender, good quality and cooked perfectly too. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We left happy, full and satisfied. Can't wait to come back!

Very warm welcoming cozy place. Fast and fresh. Japanese pancakes were yummy. Smaller potion than expected. Friendly and attentive service.

We love Yoshi! Clean healthy Japanese. Beautiful food, great service and friendly managers. Would highly recommend it to anyone Yoshi take away is great (especially during COVID when we can’t dine in!) Thank you Yoshi

Sushi was excellent. Udon noodle soup with seafood was very tasty.

Quality food, and good service. Fresh sashimi & sushi.

I ordered the large size for takeaway sushi and sashimi with kingfish, tuna and salmon and overall it was delicious, but the portion for kingfish was jus 2 peices both for sushi and sashimi and same with tuna. For 57 bucks it could be much better.

Yoshi is by far the best Japanese restuarant I have been I Melbourne. I have been there 3 times in less than a year and their consistency in providing excellent service and great authentic Japanese food is rare to find these days. Highly recommended #bestjapaneseinmelbourne

Did not enjoy our experience here at all. Staff were friendly but the food was extremely disappointing and way overpriced. The grilled eggplant we had tasted too sweet and was served cold. Only positive was the steak which was tender but there wasn't really enough on the plate. Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't come back.

Booked home delivery through foodora of 2 x bento boxes. Amount of food in each box substantial and more variety than you usually see in a bento box.

Despite that I think the quality of food could be better or the cost at $62 is $10 too high.

bad service, understaffed, gyoza came out cold.. complained, then microwaved.. beef sashimi, thick & chewy.. tempura, potatoes & pumpkin, raw yet burnt... we've been coming here every couple of months.. used to love the food, but everything's on the downhill, so very sad :(

I can't judge the atmosphere of the restaurant as I only experienced it as a take-away service, but I can speak about the food - which is both poor in quality and unusually high in price. For $26.50 you get a 'japanese style' Salmon Steak which consist of a Coles salmon fillet garnished with Coles spring onion, accompanied by Coles salad mix, and 1/4 cup of Coles rice. Not quite what I was expecting at that price point.

The food was rather disappointing. They rated themselves as the best teriyaki sauce in town, happened to be the most SALTY teriyaki sauce. I had to dip everything into water so I could eat it. For the quality of the food you get, it's obviously overpriced.

Be careful with the high score which isn't justified by the number of negative reviews.

Favourite Japanese in Melbourne.

Consistently friendly and good service.

Quality is exceptional and most meals are delicious.

Highly recommend the Beef Teriyaki.

Decor nothing flash, just great tasting fresh japanese food. Sets are very good value. Udon is a bit pricey but good quality. Tempura is nicely done and they always use fresh oil. Unfortunately no kids menu.

One of the most underrated japanese restaurants in Melbourne. Yoshi is unique in the sense that every dish is created to the very highest standard of Japanese cuisine. What's left is an experience of clean, simple and perfect Japanese food.

As you will now know, I'm always on the hunt for a good Japanese restaurant. So when one of my friends suggested dinner at Yoshi (315 Toorak Rd, South Yarra) I was more than happy to go along. I hadn't been to this restaurant for years so was interested to see what it was like now. It was a Sunday night and it was half full. We ordered the Sushi & Sashimi combination (small) which was $37.50. It came out and I was impressed by the selection and how fresh it was. We asked for more ginger, which took ages to come and had to remind them a few times. We also had the Agedashi Tofu, this was done as it should be. Tofu was crisp on the outide and soft in the inside with plenty of broth to make it even more moist. For the main we shared the Teriyaki Chicken which they tout the best Teriyaki marinade. It was good, however I think Satsuki in Malvern East still serves the best Teriyaki Chicken and also at a lower price. We both enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients and the flavours, however it

But a good environment, good selection and not at all greasy. A good choice for dinner before having a few drinks on Chapel st.

My teriyaki chicken was burned! This restaurant is way overpriced, do not recommend

Disappointing. Yoshi used to be one of my favorite Japanese restaurants but have really dropped their standards and raised their prices! Sashimi was cut very thick and the sushi was dry! Searching for a new fav local!

Sushi is nice but udon noodles are ordinary and over priced. Took waiters 1h to clear tables and felt like a dirty Restaraunt from a Hong Kong central

Great food. Tad overpriced

I really like the food here but it was a little overpriced..

8.75/10 - Nice except the price. Came here for dinner and I was quite impressed. The service was excellent and the food came out quickly even though the restaurant was full. The food is delicious, however, the portion size is a bit small for the price you pay. The variety in their menu is enticing. I do recommend this restaurant if you're willing to pay a bit more than usual.

Food: 9/10
Service: 10/10
Ambience: 9/10
Price: 7/10

Overpriced. The food was good and the service was quick and friendly.
The price though is a bit high. Paying extra for rice made me a bit grumpy considering the mains are all around 25$. There are cheaper places with the same quality around.

Most expensive bento box I've ever had but quite fresh and well prepared and feels like what a bento from Japan would be

Disappointing. Been hankering for some Japanese food for a while now, so decided to try Yoshi one Saturday night. Food turned out to be very average; the sushi platter in particular was disappointing. The ngiri came with wasabi without giving you a choice and there was very little variety; all up, I've had better sushi from corner takeaway joints.

Other dishes were nothing spectacular. Got served the wrong order twice and pretty sure we were overcharged at the end (they refused to provide a detailed breakdown). Won't return.

Fantastic Japanese. Yoshi is one of our family favourites, the food is consistently amazing. Our favourite dish is the salmon tataki which has bags of flavour. The sushi cone rolls and all the teriyaki and tempura dishes are great.

10/10 for food
8/10 for appearance
8/10 for ambience

Yucki Yoshi!!. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone! The chicken dish I ordered was appalling!! The deep fried "chicken" balls were dried up, scary mouthfuls of dissatisfaction. The six bite size balls and small serve of rice were accompanied by a few measy withered lettuce leaves and three dipping sauces of processed mustard, mayonnaise and soy sauce. This dish comes at an over priced cost of $19.50! My complaints to the restaurant staff were rudely challenged and dismissed. No apologises or refunds were issued. Outrageous!

Surprisingly good! Went here once before and a la carte is a no go except for the beef sashimi. Gave it another go and ordered the bento and it was yum! Definitely go for the bento here and beef sashimi

Went on a saturday night, the food was ok for what it was but not value for money. The service was hopeless, waiter did not know the menu, when the food came it took 10 minutes to get them to bring a spoon (that was dirty) for the soup. Also don't know why I need to use disposable chop sticks and use the menu as a table place mate. Plenty of other better places around the area. Will not be running back.

First Japanese Restaurant in Melbourne!. A lot of people don't know it, but this is the oldest Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. Okay, it's probably gone through dozens of owners, dozens of name changes and even more menu changes, the site is still the same. I even asked one of the waitresses "hey did you know this is the oldest Japanese restaurant in Melbourne?" she gave me a weird look and walked away.

Food is slightly above average, sub-standard service (the waitresses don't even know of the holy ground they tread upon!). I would say it's great value, not for the food but for the visit to a historical restaurant.

Does not belong in the $ category. Perhaps $$ or $$$. However, serving sizes are quite large. The bento box I ordered was enormous aswell as very nice. However, it took quite some time to come out from the kitchen and my partner finished her meal before mine was even served!
