My score 4.0 stars. J & I had dinner here on Thu 21st March. Comfy bench seats & cushions, but yes a bit smoky inside. Host Sanjeev (owner) was lovely, very welcoming, explained everything & made requested adjustments to dishes. We were given water, free pappadums & raita. We had:
Onion Baji > Quite big, quite well done – dark colour (food dye, but was fine). Quite filling – J liked them especially.
Sthn Indian Eggplant curry (medium spice) > Creamy, tasty, yum 🤤 – only downside, prefer less salt. Great w rice – my FAV dish of the night.
Palaak paneer (medium) > Creamy & a bit spicy (slow build). Softest paneer we’ve ever had & sauce was yummy. As good as dish was, I prefer sauce only – paneer was too creamy for me. J LOVED it however 🤤.
Tandoori rockling > Salad a bit weird, but Tandoori flavours good – fish moist as long as you ate it fairly quickly. Would try again w prawns instead!!!
Rice > Was good – nice & separate. Single serve of rice was quite substantial – good value.
Std paratha (wholemeal but we got them to add lotso garlic) > It was YUM 😋! You could taste the wholemeal & the garlic was great. Really good – esp for mopping up the paneer sauce.
We walked to MK’s as it’s close to home & had a chat to Sanjeev about the local area – he was very knowlegeable. Because it was our first time there & we we’re interested in what he had to say – he kindly offered us a freebie desserts (even though we were taking home quite a bit of leftovers). We forced ourselves 😁!!!!
Chocolate naan > Not too sweet. Really tasty, really good 👍.
Homemade mango icecream > Very tasty, strong mango flavour. Initially had a tiny icy character, but as soon as it softened ever so slightly, it turned into creamy loveliness 👍...
I also drank > 1st beer (Haywards 5000) really good by itself. 2nd beer (Kingfisher) really good with the food.
There were 2 other dine-in tables, locals picking up TA phone orders & others ordering TA on the spot & waiting. Also lots of Uber, etc. action while we were there too.
Total cost was $71 for two (inc corkage & 2x $8 beers) – we were stuffed to the gills (before dessert) & had LO’s! A nice place with old fashioned service – we will return for more Eggplant & Paneer
Had a great meal from Mishra's Kitchen tonight.
Portions are great, good amount of meat in the curry which was also very tender. Bhajis were full of flavour and great with a beer.
I would have preferred more heat in my vindaloo (it was quite mild) however I will just ask for 'very hot' next time.
Chocolate naan was a really nice end to the meal.
Will see if it jumps to 5 stars with more heat in the next order

We live down the street from Mishra's Kitchen and have never had less than a great experience with their service or their food. We always say, "We really need to eat her more often" after every visit. The lamb shank is a family favourite . . .so tender and spicy. It is also a great alternative for delivery or takeaway, as it is always hot and fresh upon its arrival. If you haven't been there, definitely give it a go!
Has to be the best Indian food I’ve ever had, never disappointed with Mishra’s Kitchen! Full of flavour. Always receive great service and I think that’s very important too!
My absolute favourite local Indian place. My partner requests Mishra for his birthday every year because of the delicious food and lovely host who is delighted to please his guests. Yum yum yum. :)
This place stands out amongst a lot of competitors. Although I've never eaten in the restaurant, I must have ordered from here at least 20 times. When I order from somewhere else, there is regret. Much regret. Hopefully I have learned my lesson.

As stereotypical as you can possibly get, getting the butter chicken will always be an excellent choice at Indian places.
Creamy and flavourful it's basically everything I wanted in my butter chicken. In comparison, the lamb madras was heavier in flavour and a bit thicc - which meant that dipping it in the Naan was an experience too chunky for me.
The Naan is at such an affordable price they're very generous with their portions!
All in all, this is definitely one of the best Indian places I've been to. The entree is fresh and delicious - a crispy shell and me and my mates couldn't stop eating. Atmosphere and decor is vibrant and fun.

Absolutely amazing! Excellent and friendly service. The food is delicious. I have been a few times and tried different meals each time and have not been disappointed. Must try the mango ice cream with chocolate naan bread for dessert!
For me, Mishra’s Kitchen is the best Indian Restaurant so far, I love the butter chicken, Mango lassi and lamb cutlets is the best. Will come down again next week when pop in at Yaraville.👌🥗

The food here is good and affordable compared to a lot of other indian in the area. Have ordered take away a number of times. The first time the guy got lost on the way here and it took an hour which was a little funny, but the food is good. Found on one occasion the bread had a bit of a funny taste but was fine. The curries are nice.
Have visited Mishra's quite a few times now and the food is always delicious. Service is excellent and nothing is to much trouble for any speciall requests...highly recommend!!!
You can not get better value for quality than Mishra's. We have been here with friends a number of times an it is always excellent,; food & service. A couple of us like our curries 'really hot' and on the last visit Mishra can through with the goods; the meal was delightfully hot. Would recommend Mishra's to anyone.

Mishra's Kitchen is one of my favourite go to place whenever I miss Indian food, it reminds me my life in India as it is authentic.
In my few visits there I usually order Tandoori Murg and Chicken Tikka Masala, they are so yum healthy (roasted) and leaves me guilt free. Their Lamb Shank Curry is the most amazing Indian curry I have tried in Australia so far, the meat is so tender and infused with amazing spices, the aroma will keep you wanting more, love the gravy. I like accompanying it with either their Garlic Naan or Kashmiri Pulao.
Extremely friendly and welcoming restaurant with the most amazingly tasty food and authentic flavours. The place is pretty fabulous with good ethnic atmosphere. Definetly highly recommended.

I've been eating here at this place since it opened, still my go-to spot for Indian in the West. Great food, warm staff and atmosphere. Love the Butter Chicken, Lamb Saag, Madras, Eggplant curry, Onion Bhaji. Love this place!
We have been coming here for the last 5 years and we have always been exceptionally happy with the beautiful food at Mishra's. The service staff are very friendly and helpful. The vindaloo is always prepared to our liking which is very hot and the taste is amazing. I would recommend this Indian restaurant as one of the best in the area and it never disappoints.

We have only eaten in once, and had takeaways numerous times. Food is absolutely beautiful. We are not vegetarians, however the eggplant curry is a MUST! Paneer is also very nice, and meat curries are always well balanced and delicious. Not giving full marks just because the only time we dined in we felt the place lacked "atmosphere", however that was a long time ago and things might have changed/it might have been a "one off" type of evening.
I've always had a fantastic experience ordering food from Mishra's Kitchen. My wife is Vegan and they accommodate for her needs without a fuss, on the phone or through an eat now order. The chicken tandoori is full of spicy goodness and tender. The Baigar Baigan (eggplant curry) is delicious and tasty! A must have. The serves are very reasonable and quality of food is exceptional as everything is made from scratch. The lady on the phone and the wait staff are always very polite and helpful. Delivery time is prompt, the orders I have placed haven't taken longer than 1/2 an hour. I could not fault this place. The people that have voted a one star should be ashamed and banned from this app as they haven't given a reason for their poor ratings. It seems like they are working at other competing restaurants or the like.
Very busy on Sat night, especially with takeaway. Service was excellent. Some dish was delicious, others were a bit salty. Buttet Chicken was not overly sweet, chicken was tender, and very creamy sauce. Lamb Vindaloo was spicy (not overly spicy), very tender, but salty. Murg Tikka has a delicious marinate, pieces with bones were nice, but pieces without bone were slightly dry. Plain naan and saffron rice goes well with the Vindaloo. Garlic naan is better eaten alone. Forgo the Sweet Mango Chutney, it was salty. Must try the hot Chai tea!
You know you found a good Indian when the lamb korma melts in your mouth. Slow cooked lamb in a delicious curry sauce. A nice Indian choice if you're in the area.
ONION AND GARLIC FREE Indian food! I called around about 7 different Indian restaurants in my area before finally finding this one that would make me a curry without onion or garlic. Mishra and his staff are so gracious and kind and insist on catering for me even when the restaurant is busy. I can only order certain things on the menu if I come in last minute but many times Mishra has told me to call ahead if I would like anything else on the menu so that he can prepare it for me earlier in the morning. On top of that the food is AMAZING, the best butter chicken I have ever had- even if it wasn't for their enormous hospitality, super cute, colourful and comfortable decor then I would still be lured back by the amazing food every time.
Had the lamb madras, which had a beautiful rich but not heavy coconut sauce, the eggplant and potato curry and murgh tikka, which was very tender and perfectly spiced. Naan bread was also particularly delicious. Just wish I'd left room for dessert!
Service also gets a special mention - not often you get to chat to the chef as he cooks.
We came on a Wednesday nite and we have been a few times now. We ordered the lamb shank chef special and panak paneer. The food took a while to arrive but we assumed that was because it was freshly prepared. It was well worth the wait. The flavours were wonderful and the gravy complimented the shank very well. Fabulous food. The restaurant is cosy which is very nice. I imagine a booking would be needed on a fri or sat night. We will be back again for sure. Not a 5 because we had to ask our waiter for a few things basic things which should be standard and fast eg water and open our byo.
Mishra's Kitchen is fairly hidden away at Wembley Avenue but I must say it was worth the find. All of us were quite happy with our dishes. We had the Lamb Korma, Palak Paneer, Garlic Naan, Mint Naan and Plain Paratha. I really enjoyed the garlic naan, Palak Paneer and washing it down with their delicious Mango Lassi. Service was attentive and warm. Owner was also happy to take our pictures and wasn't pushy when we decided to settle for a light dinner.

One of the best Indian place I've ever tried.
Came here for a light dinner with family.
Ordered the Lamb Korma, Palak Paneer, Garlic Naan, Mint Naan and Plain Paratha to share among 4 people.
All of the meals were simply delicious! The lamb of the korma was delicately tender and the cottage cheese for the Palak Paneer was light, soft and fluffy. The gravy for both dishes were amazing as well, had to lick the bowl to clean everything! Haha
Since we were so satisfied with the food, we even ordered their mango lassi and it was superb. It was not sweet and the texture was thick enough.
The owner of the restaurant was there and was very friendly and attentive!
I highly recommend bringing friends and family to give this place a try.
You will keep coming back... that's the catch phrase of Mishra Kitchen! totally enjoyable and a feast for the senses... with dishes smelling as good as they taste... spices scintillating the taste buds with every mouthful! Enjoy!
Excellent food in a low key setting. Clearly a haunt of many locals. Make sure you try the samosas and Naan. Best we have had in a long time. Friendly service highly recommend.

A lovely, family run business serving really delicious authentic Indian food. Great homely atmosphere and the service is very friendly. The kitchen is up front and part of the dining space allowing for some great cooking viewing as well as the occasional chat with the chefs. We'll be back.

The West's best keep secret, blink & you will miss it. Authentic brilliant Indian food lamb vindaloo as good as it gets and the sloq cooked lamb shank curry when its on the specials board is the best indian meal u will ever have. You would think you were in Thailand for value for money !

A true hidden gem. We ate a lamb shank curry that was rich and delicious, with the meat so tender it was falling off the bone. The mushroom and pea curry was an unexpected delight (there is plenty to please vegetarians, which suited my friend perfectly) as was the freshness and delicate flavour of the naans - we professed our love of these so much, we were treated to a special chocolate naan for dessert! The staff work really hard to make you feel welcome and there is a really warm family vibe to the place. Would definitely return again, if it was a little closer to home!

We've had takeaway from Mishra's kitchen on three occasions and it was delicious and consistent every time! My favourite was the eggplant curry! Can't wait to go there in person, next birthday dinner for sure.
Best in the West. We've had their food home delivered for the past year or so and have been impressed and satisfied every single time. The food is excellent quality, super tasty (try the Butter Chicken!), generous servings, and the delivery is quick. Some other local places we tried (when Mishra's was closed) were oily, used poor quality meat, and served more sauce than meat (I hate that trick). This place serves quality AND quantity. Highly recommended. (and the pappdams are great!)
Chicken Korma (Gf). Best version of the dish I've ever had. You can taste the fresh ginger and spices, the chicken is always tender.
Best Indian food ever!. I've eaten at Mishras several times now and am yet to be disapointed. The food is fantastic, particularly food from the tandoor, the butter chicken and -if you're ok with spice- the beef vindaloo. The staff are friendly and fantastic. What a wonderful dining experience!

Turns out Mishra is the chef, and he knows his flavours well. We had the lamb shank curry, butter chicken and garlic naan. The shank was tender (apparently cooked for over 6hrs) and delicious, while the butter chicken had a good balance of sweetness and smokiness. Happy with the naan, as well as the mango lassi. We were so full! The service makes you feel like you are a good friend. Mishra even gave us some complimentary cake from his wife. I think we've found our new local Indian restaurant, well done Mishra!
Mishra's kitchen is a hidden treasure. Immensely enjoyed our evening there today and will definitely be back. The tandoori platter was exquistise as an entree and the passion of the owner/ head chef was portrayed again in the Goan fish curry and palak paneer with breads and rice we had for mains...

Best Curry in Melbourne ... maybe in Australia!. We discovered Mishra's Kitchen soon after it opened, when it had only a few, very good, reviews, and before its more recent decoration. After one meal, we were hooked, and have now become regulars, both to eat-in and take-away. We've watched the gradual changes, the painting, wall-hangings, 'proper-menus', wine-list and extra staff and have been pleased to see Sanjeev 'grow' his business while the quality of the food remains superb. Between us we have had almost everything on the menu, which is pretty much standard for Western Indian and we have enjoyed everything. The lamb shanks, a special that appear every so often, are my partner's favourite, while I choose one of the more substantial dishes from the vegetarian menu. Each dish is wonderfully warm and flavoursome without being raw, and prepared with the best of ingredients. The paneer, for example, is wonderfully white, crumbly and fresh. Most dishes can be prepared to taste, and Sanjeev is very obliging with personal preferences. BYO is a small and reasonable charge. All in all, one of our favourite restaurants in Melbourne! Suggestions for making it even better include having some of the vegetarian dishes at entree sized serves for sides (especially the dhal) and adding a couple of more substantial vegetarian staples for those who derive their main protein content from vegetarian food. A channa dish (maybe with aloo?) would be a welcome addition to the menu. But we will keep coming back as is!

Finally got around to going.. Even though mishra's is the closest Indian to home we had just not got around to going there yet. The fact they are closed on Sunday doesn't help. I guess the odd location amongst a little strip of suburban shops doesn't help the feel of a night out. Anyway after meaning to go we finally did, and we do regret no getting round to it earlier and wasting time on other further away Indians. The staff are really helpful and friendly, service is prompt and the food is of a good enough quality to match it with any other local Indian restaurants. Goan fish was the winner for me.
Mishra's kitchen is a cozy Indian restaurant on a quiet street in Yarraville. They served us delicious Indian cuisine that left us licking our fingers. We started with the succulent tandoori platter and finished dinner with their signature daal and paalak paneer, both were incredible. The food was very fresh and the spice level was perfect (medium). Even though we were full, we tried their homemade kulfi dessert and it was worth it. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Great food and value for money. Best deal is takeaway as the portion size feeds two but pretty warm inside the restaurant and a really nice space outside. BYO at $3.50 corkage with a bottle-o only a few steps away makes for a good cheap quality date night!

Had dinner at Mishra's with a group of friends. We enjoyed a variety of curries, along with breads and rice. All the meals were delightful and I have no problems recommending Mishra's. We paid $125 for 5 people, which made the night very reasonable. And yes I'll be looking forward to my next visit.
