Review Cam's Kiosk - Abbotsford

Nice, quite spot cloistered away (get it) from the other restaurants. Menu is a little fancy and limited but very tasty.

I love this hidden gem in the middle of the convent. This restaurant has a great feel and outdoor area. Menu is limited, but we always find something we like. Staff were friendly and attentive. (and not rude as some people mentioned)

Great unsuspecting location with relaxed wine bar vibe. Highly recommend trying all the pastas, these dishes were amazing and fairly priced. Although, $12 for a cucumber salad of 3 baby cucumbers or a $12 mixed leaf salad of 4 cos leaves & some dill was disappointing despite tasting good.

Food was tasty enough if expensive for the serving sizes and amount of ingredients used. The options are also sparse and poorly communicated, ingredients not shown mostly and only the vague names of the dishes, which the waitress mentioned people didn't understand the options more often than not. I had a crusty roll which was nice enough but very light on the fillings. However, the service at this place is unforgivable, messed up our drinks orders TWICE and on the second time tried to deliver them to the WRONG table, I would also note that it was far from busy at the time. The wait staff are polite enough but really lack personality or ettiquite training, and clearly should be taking orders down not relying on their clearly poor memory. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

Lovely seasonal food, tight but adequate wine list, vibrant staff (knowledge on the wines and dishes wasn’t too good but made up with it in friendly enthusiasm and spunk) cozy and very comfortable vibe! Will be returning. Thanks for a great evening team Cams Kiosk.

tasty. You won't come away hungry but if you're into generous servings this may not be the spot for you. Little details do matter and having the wait staff lean across the table and across seated guests to serve or pour water, only spill it, is a complete fail. Getting this done right is day one table service training etiquette and the guests should have to stop the wait staff and give them a training lesson on what is and isn't ok with respect to this practice. The wine is expensive even though it is priced. Is a 300% mark up the norm in Melbourne? It certainly isn't in my experience elsewhere across the country. Just one last comment about little details that do make a difference. Each Pipi comes in a shell and each shell should contain a Pipi. Empty shells and missing Pipis don't make a complete dish. We certainly paid for incomplete dishes. So a pleasant enough experience but not outstanding, with room for improvement for the prices being charged.

I wasn't very impressed with the coffee. I asked for a small, strong flat white, but it was too milky. The place looks nice in general, but I wouldn't recommend it for coffee.

The hidden gem of Abbotsford's convent and a secret of the locals. A simple menu with the best quality ingredients.

We came as a group of 10.
After being served very average quality coffees by some quite officious staff, we sat and waited for at least 20 minutes for someone to take our food order.

After 50 minutes, our breakfast had still not arrived which seemed odd as other customers arrived, ate and left within that time. The cafe was quiet (especially considering it’s Father’s Day) and there were many staff working.

Nobody bothered to notice that we had been there for 1 hour and 10 minutes, but still no food. Nobody came to the table to ask if we wanted more coffees.

We had to go to them and tell them to cancel our food due to needing to be elsewhere. The staff member we asked told us that our food order hadn’t actually been processed. No apologies, no care.

This is possibly the worst service I have ever experienced. Ordinarily I’d say we’d go back to give it another chance, but not this time. Family had converged there for a Father’s Day brunch from all parts of Melbourne and even Geelong. The morning was a fizzer. Thank goodness for Lentil and Anything.
aside from the fact the staff are incredibly rude and snooty. but we ordered coffee, and food shortly after. after about 45 minutes to an hour our food had not come out, everyone around us had gotten their food and left before us. not one of the staff members bothered to ask us anything until we went to tell them we had to leave that they told us our food order was never put through. After this they still tried to make us may for our coffees.

I went to Cam's on a Friday night, the place was busy but still relaxed and easy to hear. The setting is incredible and staff where very friendly. The highlight for me was the Fettuccini Pasta.

I will attempt to adhere to the conditions as set by Zomato however it will be challenging given the rudeness, almost borderline bigotry and condescending service we had today. Given the rather mundane breakfast menu, arrogance and distain would be less likely. I asked if they served poached or fried eggs and bacon, waiter said “Only what’s on the menu” It seemed that given there were boiled eggs one might be able to get other forms of cooked egg. It’s a versatile protein. I asked if he had bacon, the reply “we have ham do you want ham?” ok reasonable. Then my colleague asked do you have ‘normal bread‘ his reply “You mean like the white loaf you get at a greasy London caf?” That was enough. We left and muttered our evaluation of him. What borderline bigotry is this? My parents and the other 1.5 million immigrants from Greece, Italy, Ex-Yugoslavia, Germany, Holland, Malta etc did away with white loaf while this young waiter’s grandparents and parents were suffering the blight of three veg and boiled beef.

We were invited to an event here on the weekend and loved the space. It takes a beautiful historic venue and splits it into a bar and a separate gallery. We enjoyed dinner and wine whilst viewing the art in between courses. I definitely recommend visiting for a slice of history and a unique experience of dining alongside some free entertainment in the form of an art exhibit

Three of us had a great breakfast here. We had sardines on toast which were absolutely fresh, flavoursome and delicious, a vegan version of braised greens with avo instead of ricotta which was huge and eggs with mushrooms on gf toast which was also really good. The staff were super helpful and attentive and really happy to customise meals and suggest alternatives for my vegan and coeliac friends. The price was $65 for 3 of us including coffees and a shared cake. Definitely going back there!

This is a great spot for lunch solo or with friends. Staff are so genuinely helpful and friendly and the food is fantastic. Here you pay for what you get- quality. A real gem amongst the other venues in the Convent complex- with added luxury of the adjoining galleries. New winter menu.. beautiful soups and a pasta- and sandwiches are sandwiches you don’t make at home- so worth the price, with beautiful bread. Even their butter tastes good! Great teas for those of us who are abstaining from coffee- proper brewed cuppa

Wow, I’d never been here before and I came here yesterday for the first time and ordered a hit chocolate as it was a freezing cold day. Can I just say it was the best hot chocolate I’ve had in a very long time. Will definitely come back and order some food.
Do yourselves a favour and try the hot chocolate, you won’t regret it.

There is a real sense of community at Cam's cafe. Something that you can rarely find in a commercial space. Everyone knows everyone at the Convent and if you ask anyone that comes to the Convent everyday, 99 out of 100 will tell you that Cam's is the place to be. Went there with my boyfriend tonight and I was (even more) blown away by their kindness and genuine friendship. The food was spectacular and the service warm and friendly. The evenings at Cam's remind me of the ones I used to spend at restaurants along the streets of Bologna, Italy. The warm light of the main building made our outdoor experience even more pleasant and unforgettable. Thanks Cam for this amazing place 🙏🏼

A cute cafe, hidden behind the more prominent Convent Bakery. The menu is VERY limited, but tasty. It's on the pricey side - their salads are around the $14 mark - and I found the salad serving didn't fill me up. Their baguettes were mostly vegetarian (perhaps the whole menu is?) and looked good. There's a limited range of cafes in the convent, so this one's no better nor worse than others.

Socially run ......

Historical venue, old open hall style building, sectioned into two; the Gallery and Cafe/Bar at night.

Limited Menu especially at Dusk/Evening mostly chips. Almonds and alcoholic drinks.

Outside seating area, overlooking the Courtyard is the best, when is warmer like now.

From their website ... Learning from his uncle, Cam's motto is "we are here to make friends, not money".

A nice table for 2 in the dappled Autumn sun on the verandah overlooking the inner tranquil courtyard of the convent. A friendly chat to a nearby table. We enjoyed very nice coffee, the housemade baked beans, and the roasted tomatoes with hummus on toast - all very tasty and enjoyable. Hit the spot . Mega busy sunday morning as one could imagine. Impressive for the small limited 'kitchen' area - and the cafe team were great, always a smile, very helpful and not a long wait. A small art gallery space within, and yes very close to some other eateries at the convent, and a very short walk to the Children's Farm.

I love this place. The coffee is strong and always consistent. The staff are laid back and always friendly. I have come to love the daily soups and salads which always change and don't cost a fortune. I am also obsessed with their pastries. Obsessed. The ambience of the place is also amazing. I always come away feeling deeply satisfied. Love this place.

Cams Cafe is one of my all time favourite spots. The staff are always incredible accommodating and polite, the atmosphere is brilliant and the setting DREAMY. Cams Cafe caters to your every desire, whether it be a locally roasted morning coffee, a wholesome vegetarian lunch or perhaps an afternoon Aperol spritz, as you sit and look out over the idyllic Abbotsford Convent. LOVE this place!

Things change and I far enjoyed my time here than previously. A little heavy on the garlic but possibly coming up to the best convent eatery with the decline in other locales.

2016 review: It's tough being a little lady politely waiting in line to be served in a bar. Especially when the misogynist of an owner will let multiple sets of his loutish man friends loudly push in and laugh rudely at you as you wait. And wait. And then leave, never to return! Worst ever and riding on their artsy, hippy location in the convent! The bakery a few steps away sells drinks and much more pleasantly in an orderly non-nepotistic line.

This is my favourite place in the Convent. It's got a great local Cafe vibe and I often sit outside under the beautiful tree. It's a top spot.

Good strong coffee. Great place for lunch. Had a really hearty soup with generous portion of crunchy bread.

Coffee good, food needs a lift. Okay the good news. Ambience is very good. Lovely light peeling in from the large windows. Cool mix of different size table. Lovely big service table up the book. Very interesting and dare I say it cute people coming through all the time - that sort of area! Service is laid back but friendly and charming. I really wanted to like this place. Ordered a large coffee, baguette and a cake. Coffee was huge!! More a bowl than cup. Am I complaining? No way!! Ideal for sharing between two people. Food however was the let down. I know I got there just before three so my options were limited but the cake while delicious had mould underneath it. It's summer. If the cake isn't sitting in a refrigerated display you really need to sell it out on the day. I scrapped the bottom off and ate it. I've obviously survived as I am writing this review but my wife wouldn't touch it. The baguette for $9 is way to small - seriously it should be stuffed with lots of filling or the baguette should be huge - either way it was unsatisfying. It also irked me when one of the staff picked up the baguette with bare hands to plate it.

Great cafe. Coffee - Joe is my favourite coffee maker in Melbourne. His coffee is incredibly consistent.
Food - The food is amazing. Every day, the staff puts together a beautifully presented home made lunch. Fresh ingredients made with love and care.
The atmosphere is amazing and Cam is one of the friendliest cafe owners I've seen in Melbourne.
Amazing job!

(I have no idea what the reviewer Johnny Cakes is talking about. I visit Cams nearly everyday as I work around the corner. The staff are not over the top friendly - I'd describe them more as very laid back and easy going in a nice way. If you want to be left alone, they will leave you, if you want to be friendly, they will happily engage with you.)

Better than the convent bakery. I avoid the convent bakery like the plague. This is much better. It's a nice venue and doesn't feel like a mosh pit. Food is good and coffee is mostly good.

Very very good coffee. This cafe is one of the nicest I have been to at the Convent and in collingwood! I will not go back to the bakery after finding this place! great baguettes. It's also a lovely open welcoming space, friendly staff with a relaxed area outside to sit in the sun.

Don't listen to Johnnycakes; he just wasn't into not being the centre of attention for 5 minutes. Joe makes the best cup of coffee within a 10 mile radius and there is different stuff on the menu daily. Also they now do booze.

I've decided this place is full of unwelcoming jerks. I'm bringing a thermos if I'm having coffee at the convent. At least it provides a service. If I want sullen women ill watch straight porn.

Great for a contemplative coffee. Great coffee and pastries
Friendly staff
Really great view on the old convent square and the big tree

So so so much better than the convent bakery next door, which, for some reason, most people seem to favour - maybe they just don't know about this place, as it is not so obvious.
