This is my new favourite eatery near work. I struggle to waddle my pregnant arse there & back within my lunch break but it's worth it. Called in earlier in the week for takeaway hot chocolate & sausage roll. Their range of ready made baguettes, quiches & salads looked so good I had to come back for lunch. Being pushed for time I thought I'd just grab lunch to go but after seeing the offerings from the kitchen I had to sit down & try the Chicken & Barley Soup. A beautifully flavoured & filling homestyle soup, perfect for a cooler day. The seating area inside looks small but there's a second room just behind the counter. Nice quiet spot to hold a small meeting. Will be back soon for a few more lunches before I finish up at work.
Sometimes you just feel like a good old sausage roll and milkshake. It's not that easy to find in fancy Melbourne but I love coming here and having one of their jumbo sausage rolls.
Stopped in for a light snack with my little one (unfortunately no high chairs!) and was treated to friendly service and food of the fresh, homemade variety. Don't expect anything fancy but do you enjoy the gentle ambience and pleasant greetings from the owners.
I just had the seafood chowder, brought it back to work, then 10 minutes later ordered more! It really is the best chowder I have had in Melbourne and being a Bostonian, I know good chowder. I have never had a bad meal or coffee at the Red Bird. Local, friendly and consistent!!!
I eat here - or grab a coffee - regularly. I'm fussy about my coffee and they do a great job. The food is great! The baguettes are particularly yummy. This morning I had a muffin (homemade by the owner) and it was 'melt-in-the-mouth' delicious. Last week I tried a delicious salad. I'm not one for vegetables-only experiences but, again, it was very tasty.
Nice family run cafe. Came in for a coffee with my fiancee before her exam, was impressed by the nice atmosphere and friendly manner of the staff. Would always recommend.
Duck Baguette. Peeking duck in a delishes sour dough baguett. You cant go wrong yummy!
Great food, cute decor, friendly staff. I had the Cypriot grain salad and my friend had a meatloaf baguette, both of which were super tasty and very reasonably priced. The coconut iced tea (with real pineapple!) and iced coffees were both excellent - in fact we'll be going back just on the strength of the iced coffee alone, let alone the fact that I really want to try the pulled pork and smashed egg baguette.
A small detail which also pleased me was that they use solid ice for the drinks, instead of that semi-hollow crap that quickly melts and waters your drink down. The staff (and presumably owners) were attentive and very friendly, and there is even a scattering of books to entertain you and your kids. This is a really nice little cafe, and you should check it out.
Homemade Cakes. This is a great little cafe, newly opened and just that little bit smaller and quieter than those trendy nearby cafes. Cakes are great and the Coffee was good but I'm not the world's best coffee critic. Judge for yourself though. Give it a try because they are nice people trying hard to please you.
What a great find. Just found a brilliant new little café near my place, quirky décor & great coffee. Yummy duck baguette with a side of Cypriot grain salad, wonderful cakes all homemade, just like Nanna used to make them. Great job guy's
