Review Soi 38 - Adelaide

Joel Fiddler
Great real Thai food in a nice small venue with an open kitchen, surprisingly it wasn't too loud considering all the hard surfaces. When we went it was very busy so a booking is required, they also do the usual 6-6:30pm sitting and then a 8-8:30pm sitting. Staff were attentive and really friendly, for the 2 of us we got 2 starters, 2 mains, rice, nan and 2 drinks each and it was about $150. We were happy with that. The red goat curry was the standout dish.

After careful consideration we choose Soi38 for our anniversary dinner. This might be the best Thai restaurant in the Adelaide. All the dishes were super yum and helpful staff made our choice very easy. We will definitely consider to go back again.

With Asian meals, there’s no real need for entree and main course separation really. This was especially the case here where we felt the saltiness of the entree would be very balanced out by having the excellent sticky rice served at the same time. I would return here just for the sticky rice and Pad Thai

Don’t miss this place. Finally Adelaide has genuine Regional Thai food with punch. Very comfortable setting and wonderful service. We’ve been 3 times in a week because I wanted to introduce an Adelaide gem to friends and family who miss travelling to Thailand. This is the real deal. Lots of healthy options as well as vegan. We had amazing Duck, kangaroo tail curry and lovely crab on bettle leaf. The jackfruit & eggplant green curry was also outstanding ♥️

Outstanding. One of the most welcoming & accomodating restaurants we have been to. Oscar the maitre d’ sets the bar extremely high, he ensured we have had an enjoyable night out and an amazing meal, noting our difficult dietary requirements on two occasions now. The restaurant has a cool modern vibe, as does the menu, there is plenty to choose from. The wine list is extensive and caters for everyone, although I would appreciate more local wines. Looking forward to returning for more!

We did the Tour of Thailand menu which is a very cool concept, to taste the different regions. Not every dish was a stand out but it was still pretty delicious. The decor of the new venue is really simple, modern and chic, yet there’s still a lot of energy and atmosphere in the restaurant. Some of the staff could’ve been a touch more professional at times but overall a very good experience and I will be recommending to my friends.

One of my new favourite restaurants :) Came here for a lil date after hearing about it for a while. From the start, all till the very end, the service was outstanding. A very knowledgeable and fun front of house team. The food was also phenomenal; it would be hard to pick a favourite from the dishes shown below. Overall, 9.1/10. Will definitely come back

My friends visited from Sydney and had chosen this place for our dinner to catch up. Foods were amazing! Staffs were attentive and friendly. Gonna bring more friends back next time :)

Last night was the 2nd time here at Sukhumvit Soi 38, I ordered the jungle curry and was nice but the wife ordered the Hor Mok Talay. Very poor effort, two prawns in the dish [ with inedible heads in dish to full it up ]. Waitress also bragged that the crab was fresh from Black Point, poor thing was tiny. Fisherman should loss his license. and once again inedible. No fish in the Hor Mok Talay, and was told its a seasonal dish, what no fish this time of year. Was still charged $28 for this piss poor meal, don't think we will be back for a 3rd time and will not recommend this place to anyone.

I'm currently completing a sort of pilgrimage of my favourite cuisines before i leave Australia to travel, and Soi38 was unfortunately my choice for Thai. The staff was absolutely inattentive all evening, from having to wait 20min for the, must be very inexperienced, waitress to take our wine order after being seated, another 15 min after that before being able to place our food order, through to waiting a further 15 min once the bill was brought out before we could pay. I'm willing to grant that all of these issues could be explained away due to the ineptitude of the wait staff... HOWEVER the food that came out...! I ordered my noodles without chili. Of course my meal was served with chili (whether the waitress got the order wrong or the kitchen did, I'll never know). Regardless, I'm so hungry now after waiting 45 min for my meal that i decide to persevere because I'm now too hungry to wait a further indeterminate length of time for a replacement meal. I get about halfway through the dish when my lips and throat is on fire and i cannot taste the food I'm eating anymore. So i finally decide i can't continue like this and speak to the waitress. Not a word of apology from her or the kitchen for something that was clearly their error - instead the offer was for a small replacement dish without chili as "I'd eaten so much of my meal already".... i would have sent my meal back at the start if i had any confidence in receiving my replacement meal before my dining partner had finished hers. But instead i persevered until i could no longer. No apology from anyone for the pain, discomfort and unpleasant experience i was caused, and to add insult to (literal) injury the bill was brought out without even any sort of (nominal) discount to at least pretend to mitigate my terrible experience It was a thoroughly unpleasant evening and i sincerely regret making this restaurant my choice for Thai food before leaving Australia

Between meetings, deadlines and hours at my desk, I dream about lunch at Soi38. There's just nothing like it in terms of creative menu choices in the Thai genre; crisp yet springy chive cakes, the surprisingly beautiful and complex barbecued pork noodles, not forgetting the simple but very elegant Mee Kati lunch special. Well done to everyone at Soi38, including the wonderful staff who always provide the warmest welcome and service. See you again soon.

Our first night in Adelaide and stumbled across this little gem. You can't go wrong when you see a place filled with people all looking like they are enjoying the food and having a great time. We were not disappointed!! The food was amazing and we had a wonderful young waitress that talked us through the menu and recommended some fantastic dishes to try. We especially loved hearing the owners story of how the restaurant came to be. Added a real personal touch. We will definitely be back for the pork ribs, an absolute must 👍🏻👍🏻

Second visit, this time for lunch with my son. Excellent service by a lovely young lady who knew the menu and guided us nicely, good spread of food choices and a decent drinks list. Delicious food, with really thoughtful and fresh spices that elevated the flavours towards authentic Thai, compared to the usually mundane offerings elsewhere. Prices for some items (and many of the beers) are on the slightly high side, otherwise I would have said 5 stars. A lovely little place with great street/hawker style, spicy food.

Deliciousness on deliciousness !! The food and service were both of the highest quality. Also had a really lovely rose. Friends also look fed the wine they had and also a non alcoholic cocktail. For anyone who likes Thai food, Sukhumvit Soi 38 is a must dine at restaurant.

Food and service was great until we that that really badly odoured whole steamed snapper last night like 6:30pm !! Wouldn't return even they make great food as they would know while cooking and also running food to our table. Must say very ignorant staffs!!Hope we won't get food poisoned !!
Corrina Lea
The food is incredible! But my friend had a full bought coffee and they made her throw it out because “they don’t allow outside drinks”. Understandable if alcohol because that’s against liquor licensing but as a general, it’s pretty poor, especially given they don’t have a coffee machine, so it’s not as if you can get one there.
Julie Chung
Great food as usual, authentic and packing some heat No sooner had we ordered lunch we were eating and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Excellent food and real Thaifood we been here twice and will come back again! Thanks for lovely meal and good service tonight ^^ ขอบคุณสำหรับไข่เจียวและข้าวเหนียวนะคะ^^

My shop is only 2 doors down from this amazing restaurant, so we eat there a lot and it's always fabulous. I'm writing now because I took some friends there last Friday night & amongst an absolutely packed house, we still received brilliant service & the same incredible food as always. The crispy pork belly stir-fry is my new fave & I'm already hankering for it again! There's a good reason people are flooding through the doors...fresh, locally-sourced food at a great price...and a really cool vibe. Top shelf all round.

Beautiful food and beautiful service. The co-owner served us and she is quite obviously very passionate about their business. Will recommend!
Heidi Smith
Beautiful food (as recommended by staff) once again. Freshly infused flavours and just the right amount of spice!
Graham Smith
Lovely staff, excellent food. Good value...recommend the pork stir fry!!!

On way back to hotel I grabbed a Pad Thai, a simple dish but in my experience more get it wrong then right. I really enjoyed the one I got tonight from these guys. Great balance of flavours and fresh ingredients along with very friendly staff , I would have no problem going back to try more

Staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu (made some great suggestions). Food was great. Atmosphere was lovely, comfortable in the hot weather. Will definitely be back.

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants in the Adelaide CBD at the present point in time. Soi38 has created a dining experience that stunned me in the best way possible. Do yourself a favour and let the restaurant run the show! The friendly staff ensure you are looked after in terms of partnering you up with the appropriate beverages, then ensuring food which comes out of the kitchen will be tailored to your tastes and dietary requirements. They will explain what is in front of you & then leave you to discover a new taste of Thailand that will change the way you think about the cuisine. Big kudos to the ethos, people and also the renovations that make the dining room one that SA must be proud to have.

OMG YUM YUM YUM! The food here was absolutely AMAZING! We started off with the sago peanut dumplings and WOW these were little balls of goodness - the textures of sago and peanuts were sensational.
For mains we ordered the crispy chicken with snake beans - super spicy but the flavour was the perfect balance. The goat curry was the star; sweet tones with beautiful sweet potato and curry leaves; seriously amazing. The staff were also super friendly and I think we were lucky as it was quiet when we arrived and I can imagine on a weekend it would be packed. Would definitely be back here!
Nippon Daria
One of the best Thai places in Adelaide I've found so far. Food is proper level of spicy (too many places in Adelaide claiming food is hot when it is extremely mild 😅) in order for it to be tasty and enjoyable. Also using quality produce here. Reasonable price for what it's worth
Bianca C
I have been about half a dozen times, and never had a dish that disappointed. So, SO delicious.
Their peanut sago dumplings are unlike anything I’ve ever experienced - try them!!

Traveling from Melbourne, we were looking for restaurants on Zomato and this place caught our attention. We were not able to walk in so need to make reservation. Not sure it is like on usual days. We were there in between Christmas and NY.

Warm intimate atmosphere which makes it very comfortable. And clean. Like most of the shops nearby the restaurants in small and narrow. On the night of our reservation they were fully booked and we were advise not to bring our pram because there will be no space to park the pram unless the can be fold to smallest size possible. Service wise it’s good.

Food wise .. yes it’s delicious. My favourite was the charcoal beef salad and crispy white bait. The deep fried fish wasn’t too bad. The chicken curry was a tad too spicy for us. Not sure if they used the usual peppercorns or sechuan peppercorn.

We came for dinner at Sukhumvit Soi, it’s had a revamp of the interior. Food was pretty good, we loved the chicken wings and the duck salad. This fish was just OK, not a lot of fish for the price. Staff were friendly, and although busy service was good. Good selection of wines too. Try it out if buy book ahead to guarantee a seat.

While travelling from Melbourne....
Recently renovated with a light wood and minimalistic feel, this place has been aesthetically upgraded from what has been pictured here. Although a pleasant design, the tables were poorly constructed and unstable and wobbly to use (both tables we sat at, had the same issue). As for the food, we ordered some curries. One was done well, but the other, so very poorly. It made the dining experience unappetising as a whole. Do yourself a favour and refrain from ordering the Pork and Jackfruit curry. The pork belly was not rendered at all. The chunks of pork belly ended up being boiled chunks of fat that were gluggy to eat and quite repulsive. The sauce and jackfruit that accompanied it was also poorly cooked and chosen. As a total, nothing supplemented each other and the flavours were not balanced or well considered. However redeemable the remainder of the dishes were, I could not get the taste of this foul tasting dish out of my mouth to enjoy the others.
Venisu
It's 4 stars from me simply because it was an overall good dining experience. The service has space for improvement, the food was not the most authentic and a little salty BUT for the QUALITY of food (taste etc), its price and positioning (as a restaurant), it's a solid 3.5 stars. It also makes for a great dinner spot for a small party :)

Food-wise, the food can't be prescribed as authentic but it's still delicious. I guess flavours are tailored more to locals?

• The Tom Yum Goong was more on the sweet end (perhaps tamarind), slightly sour and not spicy.

• Ironically, the Pippies with coconut milk, lemongrass and chilies had a much more pronounced Tom Yum flavour — like a good Tom Kha. Once again, as with other similar seafood varieties (like mussels), it's a standard dish with a good sauce.

• The Garlic Pork Ribs comes with great garnishing and spices, with a superbly rich sauce.

Overall, the Morning Glory, Pork Ribs and Tom Yum Goong were more salty than necessary, especially the Pork Ribs. That being said, they make for amazing dishes to go with rice!

If you love a good gin cocktail, consider one of their Som Sodas with gin! I personally reckon that that Applewood's finger lime and spice profiles might complement quite well with their ginger based drink. I got the som pomegranate but I reckon it'd have been a better standalone sofa than a gin cocktail.

Ordered two entrees and five mains to share between four people. The salt and peppercorn squid was absolutely amazing and super appetising. Staff were super friendly and full of smiles giving a very familiar feeling even to first timers at their restaurant. Decor was stylish and the shop is very clean. Also, charcoal beef salad was to die for, stunning refreshing flavour.

Went here for my friends birthday was a nice little place though felt a bit dark inside. Food was amazing and had a lot of options especially for Vegans.
Chef On The Run!!
Just a casual dinner with a friend;we ordered tasting sampler (which had 4 different snacks served in one platter). It was mediocre, only standout among them was pork!!
For the mains,we ordered padthai which was very sluggy, pippies were okay (nothing unique),pork with greens was awesome.
Must try are all pork dishes!!
Tasty-treats
Love this place! Been here a few times and it’s always been great. Birthday dinner last night and we were all happy peanuts. Yes it is slightly more expensive than other places. however, this is made up for in the quality of the food not once did we find a tough or fatty piece in any of the meat dishes. Which were the beef massaman, chargrilled beef salad and the pork belly absolutely delicious balance of flavours was just right.
The vegetarian was also very happy with the tofu stir-fry.
We always get the tasting plate and found that a tasting plate for 2 was good enough for the 4 of us. Now the sizes I have found always to be more than enough and last night was no different and I had the big man with us. We even got take-away containers and it was just as delicious for breakfast 😜. Give it a go.

I was visiting Adelaide and was staying nearby. The place is packed at dinner time, so I ordered a take away pad khee mao pork. I think for the size of the meal it is slightly overpriced. Taste wise it is good , all the mix of spices and savoury flavour are there, but it is nice to have it with other dishes to counterbalance the flavour mix.
Rebecca17
There was a hair in my food, staff were very understanding and got me a replacement meal but after the hair I was just put off.
I had the Phad Thai, the consistency was very gluggy. I barely ate any of it.
My friend is a vegan and they were very helpful in explaining what was and what wasn't suitable for her.

Great location, excellent fell I the place. Buzzing on a Monday night. Very friendly and attentive staff. Tasty meal of crispy pork belly with a beautiful spicy kick to it.
Poppie
Incredibly disappointed Poppie feels. Poppie was looking forward to dining at Sukhumvit soi. He was let down. The best dish of the night was the wine. The shared entree platter was hideous and one of the chicken skewers was actually raw so Poppie sent it back. Beef massaman was average, not enough curry sauce, pork belly average, green chicken curry needed more chicken. Poppie won't be returning, thumb down not worth an eat 👎
Nom Noms
Hated it. We ordered takeaway from here for dinner not long ago and ended up binning the lot. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. Food was oily bland, over cooked - it was just foul. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I absolutely love my Thai food so I had to try out Sukhumvit Soi 38! To be safe, I ordered the standard Tom Yum and Pad Thai first time round, and both were quite delicious. However, I did expect the soup to be a bit more spicy, and the noodles to have more punch. The other dishes ordered second time round were overall a lot better on the palette though (curry and stir-fry)! Overall, it wasn't such a disappointing experience as service was friendly, and food was just a minor hit-and-miss.
PB&J.
Have to say YUM!!! Made a booking online table was ready to go for birthday dinner. Place was really busy and I can understand why. Service was quick and the food was flavourful and hearty. Had no complaints about the size of the portions as we had a entree as well even the big man was stuffed. Highly recommend.

Thai food isn't really a huge favourite of mine but with what I had I did enjoy. Limited items on the menu I would actually eat myself so if you like to broaden your horizons and eat all sorts of things then I recommend giving it a try.
Can get quite loud as it is a small space. Staff are friendly, service is good.
Megan S
Stumbled across this restaurant while visiting on business, and was not disappointed! Staff were friendly and attentive, mussaman curry was delicious, the beef was very tender, and the spring rolls were crispy and fresh. Will absolutely come back.
MrJan
This place is amazing - absolutely worth a try.

What was good for me: the service was very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food - very very good. Fresh, tasteful and sustainable with a lot of vegetarian options.
Challenge yourself and ask for Thai hot - it is enjoyable, I am the proof, but it is not for the faint hearted.

What was not so good: Tap beer would be good with spicy food. The ambiance is ok for the style of the restaurant but is more rustics than fine dine.

Lemongrass
My new favourite Thai place. So good. Everything about it. Went on a Monday night and it was full. Enough said right there. The owner/waitress has so much passion for her place and I can see why. Her husband the chef is creating flavours in his kitchen that they should be proud of. On offer is one of those inventive and creative / well thought out menus where you want to try everything. When the plates start hitting the table they are full of bang on flavours that you are still thinking about days later Try the garlic pork ribs, the pipi's in chilli jam, the green mango salad with crispy white bait, crab yellow curry and the green peppercorn squid tentacles. Loving the whole package here guys. We will be back with a large group of about 20 in the near future.

HORRIBLE! Ordered the Spicy noodles on their menu and they were so incredibly spicy that I had tears flowing out of my eyes! I am quite used to eating spicy food from various cuisines, but this was by far too spicy for me to handle. There was no warning by the staff and they seemed quite unfazed when I was crying from the spice. Haven't had a worse restaurant experience till date.
Abbott And Abbess
What a gem, looking for somewhere Asian, great find, unique cuisine for Thai, the grass fed beef stir fried in jungle paste was super unique, more spectacular than water after a drought was the Goolwa Pipis in coconut and chilli jam, the sauce required an additional bowl of rice....amazing. Great service, nice decor!
Feed Me, Adelaide
If I could describe my ideal restaurant, in terms of all the features that make it up, I think my list would go something along these lines. . Starting with cuisine – it would have to be thai food. The flavour combinations, the use of colour, texture, heat, sweet, sour and interesting ingredients make this an easy decision. It is easily my favourite, as no matter what the season or weather, there is something perfect to suit your needs.
Casual SA Diner
Service very good. Decor fine. Great range of chilli heat. Insane levels easily achieved. Nice to ask. Great thoughts on matching wines. Very smart.
Only observation after quite a few courses; seasoning is all over the place. One dish amazingly salty, and I love salt. The one next to it is devoid of all salt. Seems like fish sauce and salt on one, nothing on the other.
Otherwise, good value, good service, great flavours, good wines.

Delicious! Hit all the rights spots in the mouth, just like being back in Thailand. Could eat here everyday easily well at least til I got bored
Hungry_lizard
Food was sensational, had the yellow curry on recommendation of the waitress and it was a beautifully spiced, fragrant curry. Pad khee mao were the noodles we had (i think) also very tasty. Many other items on the menu i would've liked to try. Drinks menu was also good with a few local, crafty beers and gins
Ayumi Suzuki
One of my favourite restaurants on Adelaide!! I have already been here quite a few times and never get sick of it!! 10/10! Great food great service :)

I’m finally blogging about this place… it only took like eight or ten visits over the past year and a half… but hey, who’s counting?. Sukhumvit Soi 38, serving Thai street food with the restaurant itself named after the famous street food address ‘Soi 38’ in the heart of Thailand, Bangkok. Unfortunately, for any keen travellers who want to visit Soi 38 in Bangkok, no luck as they are now building a new development in that precinct. Boo!
The Dear Luncher
Stumbled across this place whilst randomly seeking a quick feed in Adelaide town and it did not disappoint. I had the green chicken curry and it was pretty decent, without being amazing. Good level of heat, generating a decent level of head sweat - but just a tad on the watery-side for a curry ...seemed like more of a laksa. Still, fresh ingredients and good place to eat if you're in Adelaide or from Adelaide.
Hungry Lexmo
Haven't been back since more than a year, and the menu has completely changed. It has a lot of really fantastic dishes. First, for the snacks, the pork short ribs were excellent, with the meat literally falling off the bone. The chicken wings were absolutely amazing! The duck breast noodles was a surprise (a good one). Pad Thai had the correct amount of sweetness. Dessert was also enjoyed by all of us. Overall an excellent dining experience!
Adelaidefoodcentral
In the short time that Sukhumvit Soi 38 has been opened, it has become well known for an ever changing seasonal menu made from locally sourced South Australian produce made in their kitchen from scratch. Soi 38 is also known for their wine list which are from small and medium South Australian producers. For the month of July, Soi 38 will be partnering with Chaffey Bros. by creating a 6 course lunch, pairing their food with Chaffey Bros. newest release wines. Adelaide Food Central, along with other guests, were invited to experience this special partnership with all food and drink being provided free of charge.

Wonderful food, the Thai Green Chicken curry is a must. The pork belly and greens were also a great dish. Share plates is the way to go with a small or large group.

As much as fine Asian delicacies in high end restaurants provide incredible culinary satisfaction, when I think of Asia, I think of street food. The bustling street markets, the wok clanging as the hawkers fry up and aroma that drifts through the entire street. They probably serve only 2 or 3 dishes which they have perfected day in day out. And a good one, is just that – perfect. To me, in Southeast Asia, street food is even more so interesting, the flavours of Southeast Asian cuisine are fresh and rich at the same time and so exciting. Perhaps I am a little biased growing up there. Sukhumvit Soi 38 embraces Thai street food. In fact, it is named after a famous food street in Bangkok.
CocoN
Finally tried Sukhumvit Soi 38 out tonight with my husband & sons. Bittersweet! Sad we've waited so long .. Happy to be so impressed by the service & food. Can't wait to bring our family and friends here. Thank you. 2 thumbs up!
Can not express how much I love this place. Amazing Thai food, great service and nice stylish atmosphere. Their Pad Thai and Green Curry are a must try for any new diners. My family and friends love it too and we keep coming back for more, so much the waitress memorises our order :P
Honestly_nadz
This place is unreal! Very authentic Thai food with flavours that are just popping in every dish!! Great service as well and gluten-free friendly. Serving sizes were quite small but I'll take quality over quantity everyday!

Finally tried this restaurant after a few recommendations, and I must say it pretty good. Ordered the green curry and Pad Thai, the curry surprised us with with its authenticity and the noodles were good too (a bit too sweet), only wished they used fresh noodles instead of dried ones. Satisfied with the two dishes, we decided to try their Tom Yum Seafood. This dish however was a real spin off the table, as it went down south. The soup tastes nothing like Tom Yum, it was not nearly spicy or sour enough, there wasn't enough lemongrass in it and the soup was very sweet, the prawns in it were also extremely over cooked.

Other than the soup and the rather long wait for our food, I'd still go back even if it's just for the curry.
The Munchkin
Enjoyed the experience. Good authentic Thai food. Had their pad thai . Steamed seafood curry that was served in a coconut and pork ribs curry. Meat was tender and flavourful. Definitely will come back . Bookings are recommended as it is constantly full
Tried 4 mains - green chicken curry was delicious, char grilled chicken was fairly decent, pad khee mao was average, stir fried squid was disgusting.

Also asked for 4 serves of rice and were only brought 2.

Overpriced and small serves (especially considering the price).

Probably would have given it a 2.5/5 but it also gave me diarrhea so 1/5 would not return.
Ho-Toro
I have putting this place off for quite some time, but I finally got the chance to try this out with friends. We went for lunch, and I had the Ka Nha Moo Grob. This had brocolli, crispy pork and oyster sauce served with a bowl of steam rice. Very flavoursome and didn't disappoint. The rice was what I expected it to be, soft, steamy, and went well with the pork and oyster sauce. I initially thought the serving was small, but it turned out to be just enough (I need at least a whole pizza to be full). I would definitely come back. The service was friendly, and attentive. Our meals came out quite quickly. I felt the meals were reasonably price, not too expensive, but not a cheap eat either. For what I paid it certainly didn't disappoint, and found my meal to be enjoyable. So did everyone else.

Unfortunately, this place doesn't get a rating of 4.5-5 from me because I've had better. However in saying that, this is one of the best Thai places in Adelaide. I'm comparing it to all the Thai experiences I had and unfortunately it doesn't come close to Sydney's Home Thai (then again most restaurants don't). This place is missing that x-factor, and I feel the food is so close to reaching perfection. It's missing something.

With that said, you definitely should give this place a go. We all had an enjoyable experience and you probably will too.
On The Chopping Board
Feeling like Thai today, we settled on Sukhumvit Soi 38 as our lunchtime delivery. We chose two entrees and two mains, and once we had a delivery driver available we placed our order. From Sukhumvit we chose the Por Pia Tord (vegetarian spring rolls), Tod Mun (fish cakes), Pad Thai and a Larp Kgai (minced chicken salad). We were pleased to see the meals were delivered still steaming hot and came with plastic cutlery and napkins. The meals were delicious, the Pad Thai our highlight.
Benn O
Food not great. Only ordered pad thai and curry tonight however so maybe would have been better if we were more adventurous. Green curry tofu had only about 3 pieces of vegetable and some tofu. Flavour was nice however.
Phat Buddha
This place is currently the closest experience to what I had in Thailand. Prices were pretty reasonable and the decor was cool.

Lovers of mango sticky rice, this is your place.
Khoa
Delicious and fresh Thai food that is consistent in flavor and quality every time I've been there. Best pad Thai in Adelaide! Also if you're adventurous give their prawn and betel leaf entree a go
Monica
If you can't afford the return trip to Bangkok to eat at famous Thai food street Sukhumvit Soi 38, just walk a little further down from Rundle Mall's Hungry Jacks (resist the fast food craving) and viola, our very own Sukhumvit Soi 38. In amidst the Vietnamese cuisine takeover in this city, it's nice to see a cool Thai place open up shop. The owners were feeling the Wiz Khalifa vibes with the interior design, donning a stark black and yellow colour palette while snaps of Thai royalty and a humorous 'no durian' (stinky Thai fruit) sign canvas the wall. It's fun, quirky and cultural. I had mixed opinions about the food. The larp ped (bottom), though may look like something your dog would eat, tasted absolutely amazing. Who knew minced duck salad was a thing. The classic pad Thai was good, though a bit oversweet while I wasn't so much of a fan of the sah koo sai moo (top), due to the unproportional sago dumpling exterior to interior filling. Service is fast and friendly and cost is average ($62 for everything), but due to the scarcity of solid Thai restaurants in Adelaide, this may be the place to go.
Steven
This Thai restaurant has funky decor and awesome food. We ordered pad Thai which I thought was average. But the moo Palo and pla thod rad namtok was awesome. This place is a must eat.
Prestons Disciple
Visited this place on 18th Aug for a late night soup craving. Had tom yum soup with rice. Soup was spicy and lacked sourness. Rice was ok. Service was good. Ambience is decent. Prices are pretty reasonable.

I am lucky enough to have spent quite a bit of time in Thailand, and quite a bit of that time has been spent eating Thai food. I found this restaurant to be decidedly average, but considering the fact that I have become accustomed to being blown away on a regular basis by the most humble looking restaurants around Thailand, it is all relative. I think I am a fairly harsh food critic, but having such a high benchmark, I cant give this place a great review. To me, the food here is quite bland and not particularly fresh or authentic. I wanted it to be good. I wanted to finally be able to say of a thai restaurant in Adelaide "Finally some REAL thai food!!" but I cant. Compare it to the restaurants in Thai Town in Sydney and it still lags quite a way behind. I dont really know why it is that nobody seems to be able to make really authentic thai food in Adelaide. Its unfortunate but I actually prefer my own home cooked pad thai. On top of this, I believe it is actually quite overpriced, so for me, I'll be sticking to home cooked or binge when I'm in Thailand. However, if you like boring Thai food and paying too much for it, be my guest. (P.S. My partner is Thai, and has the same opinion of this restaurant as me, so it isn't just a case of a farang not having his tastebuds stroked the way he thinks they should be.)
Jacqui's Food Fetish
Hmmm…. A strange restaurant name I hear you say, but it’s named after Bangkok’s famous street-food location. This is a great find in the Adelaide CBD and you’ll get food here that’s a little different than what you’ll find in other Thai restaurants, created by chefs Vee and Terry. With its black and yellow interior, it’s relaxed and casual and a great place to eat with friends or on your own. The simple paper menu is divided into Snacks, Salad, Charcoal, Noodles and Stir-Fry and in addition there’s a big blackboard on the wall outlining the specials. Most of the food comes in small sized servings, packed with flavour and, in some instances, chilli! I wanted it all!!

Hmmm…. A strange restaurant name I hear you say, but it’s named after Bangkok’s famous street-food location. YUM!!!! I felt really well fed and full of health after eating here. Has vegan and gluten free (even dessert options). I want to say it is crap so that people wont go there and I can get in more easily but actually I'll be honest it was great

I had walked past Sukhumvit Soi. 38 in Pulteney Street so many times and the sign promoting Thai Street Food always caught my eye. With fond memories of holidays in Bangkok and Phuket, today was the day to reminisce. Named after the famous street food address in Bangkok (which is facing closure), Soi.38 aims to bring the best of Thai street food to Adelaide.

Delicious fresh tastes and a genuine Thai eating experience. So good to see sticky rice on the menu. The service is great too and the atmosphere bis friendly and easygoing (without being annoying :))

Thai Pulteney St. March 03, 2015 This place is in the north-east of the CBD, next to Hungry Jacks. If I don't like the food here, I can always go and get myself a Happy Meal. :) Uh oh. This place was miscategorised on Urbanspoon. It's not very fancy. :( I hope no one recognises me. :| Pad Thai 6/10 Street style fried noodles with or without chicken and egg. Waitress: "Would you like chicken and egg?" Daniel: "I'll have the first one, please." This is a big pile of flat noodles and chicken. It has some spring onion in it, but there's also a strange sweetness and taste, like sugar and cinnamon or lemon. It's not quite appropriate.

Adelaide's best thai resturant for 2015. As a we travelled person and food snob! This resturant is great and well priced. The food is fresh and complex with also simple food. I hoghly recommend it. Some of these dishes have their own fingerprint of taste. Thank u chef for bringing this to Adelaide. Bobby b

Best Thai in Adelaide. Fresh and authentic ingredients, knowledgable and friendly waitspeople, cheap prices for the quality of food!

Particularly impressed with the vegan options - the BBQ tofu stir fry is a satisfying personal favourite, and the current inclusion of 2 vegan desserts is great.

The range of options mean their is something for everyone, and the Pinto/ Banquet is a great way to try their most popular dishes. So much food for how much is charged.

Will be sure to return soon!

Yummmm

So disappointed :(. Went here to try their vegan fare on recommendation from a vegan friend. Sorry that I did.
Started off by saying we were there for the vegan options. We were given the vegan / veg menu, & ordered a curry, rice, a stir fry & spring rolls (normally sealed with egg wash, but this time wasn't) from our friendly wait person. 3/5 at this point ;)
Not too long after, the food arrived.
Not noticing, I swallowed a spoonful of the curry liquid. Then I saw chicken pieces, and was shocked and appalled. 0/5
My partners stir fry was decent, but could've been more authentic with some fresh asian herbs. Also under marinated tofu. She gives it 1/5
Spring rolls were nice and fresh, smallish serve & a little under seasoned, dipping sauce boring, and too sweet - also came with a free surprise: the lettuce leaf garnish wasn't clean, so I crunched something with my tooth (spat it out but couldn't find it to show them). 1/5
Called over wait person re chicken - she worked out that she had pressed the wrong button on the ordering system, and apologised. I then asked for a free replacement meal - was given a little attitude from a different wait person, but threatened to walk out I was that disgusted & upset, they finally said it would be free.
The replacement vegan curry came out, unfortunately it was exceedingly sweet, with same under marinated tofu, & when added rice was like a weird rice pudding. 0/5
Forced down a few bites and paid the $25 and left - never to revisit.
0/5 overall

Fabulous thai food in Adelaide. Love this place , friendly , efficient staff that are always happy to serve and explain the menu choices , food tastes fantastic, i was never a eater of thai food before this place opened , and i never liked Tofu until it was cooked by these guys , fantastic flavours and tastes and reasonably priced , we even had a selection of recommended dishes ordered for a group shared lunch that we took back to the office , and there was not much left over , with very positive comments all round .Try it for sure . Sorry couldn't get the picture to rotate and the food was so delicious i ate it all before i took the photo.

Not Impressed. Probably the worst thai food I've ever had! Both the fried rice and squid dishes were not enjoyable to eat at all. The squid wasn't cooked properly and there was a 'dirt' type taste to the dish. Very sweet and not a nice mix of flavours and also very small serves for the price. I wouldn't recommend it or buy it again.

Thai food lover. Particularly not impressed with the papaya salad which lacks the punch. Tom-yum soup was watery and very average. The chicken skewers were quite good but had to pay 12 AUD for just 2 normal sized skewers.

An Unequal Exchange. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't good - and it certainly wasn't what it's presentation, prices suggest it to be. Firstly, it's claim as Thai 'street food', isn't really correct because it's just thai food in small portions, however some things are done in interesting ways which, if done well could have been great.

An example of this would be the Sago pork dumplings, which looked like one of the most interesting choices, and would have been really nice, if the filling had been more than the tiniest amount they gave (leaving sago goo as the feature), if it were in a nice creamy coconut thai curry sauce instead of what seemed a small pool of coconut milk direct from the can.

A REALLY nice restaurant could have noticed there were 3 of us and served us 6 dumplings instead of 5, however they served us wine from an opened bottle - that sort if thing. Service was kind of attentive, until 2 more people came in and they forgot to get my friend's drink - which when reminded of, got the wrong one when we'd just said it.

One chicken mince stir fry was way to hot for Thai food, and an eggplant salad that could have been easily interesting, fresh etc. just didn't cut it.

Anyway, my guess is that they are really busy because they are new, it's fringe time, it's in a good spot and they've marketed themselves to be something that's popular and usually works, but that they aren't.

This Thai restaurant is located next to Hungry Jacks on Pulteney street. It has yellow and black signage, so it is not hard to miss. Just the name itself sounds Thai already, so I was very excited to see what this restaurant brought to the table.

I suppose the other reviews are correct, the food is similar to thai street food... But what you would pay $2 for on the side of the road in Thailand costs $20 in this loud restaurant, and therefore the flaws in the food are less easy to forgive. I generally love chilli, but the eggplant salad was so hot that all the other flavours were lost, and my mouth burned for hours afterward. The salad was small with soggy eggplant; very unimpressive. The pad Thai was pleasant enough, but not outstanding. Squid stir fry was the worst, with chewy calamari that was unpleasant to eat... We were hungry but couldn't eat it. We mentioned these faults to the staff, but didn't get anything more than a brief explanation that authentic thai food is hot. I've been to Thailand, done a cooking class in traditional Thai village, and I know that chilli is prevalent, but should be properly balanced. The atmosphere was loud and frantic. Good small wine list. We paid $100 for our lacklustre food... Will definitely not be returning.

Just like the real stree foodt. Except no diesel fumes!!

Everything is fresh from scratch, you can taste the flavours. I'll be back to work my way through the menu :-)

WOW!!!!! I have not been to Thailand but this is how I imagine authentic Thai street food to be. Fresh clean flavours with balanced spice. Our table of six had the $35 banquet and there was ample food to go around. The wine list is small and included only wines from boutique producers around SA which is what many restaurants fail to do in Adelaide. Highly recommend giving Sukhumvit Soi 38 a try.

Full house at lunch today and I can understand why. Really authentic Thai food and fast friendly service. I chose one of the blackboard specials the crispy pork belly stir fried with chilli garlic and Asian broccoli - perfectly crispy pork and nice flavours with just the right amount of chilli for me. I love this place.

The 'A' word.... Dare is say it, but this is probably the most authentic tasting Thai food I have had in Adelaide. If they could get fresh galangal economically, it would be spot on. But that's a very minor quibble. The flavours and textures are so perfect, it made me realise how far off other Thai places in Adelaide are. And none of this reinterpretation crap - these are classics done well and without pretension. The food is unapologetically spicy, but not in a way that masks other flavours in the dish. Service is amazing. Personable and attentive. Highly recommended

Have been here many times already and always left without disappointment. Food tends to be on the spicy side, so ask for mild if chilli tolerance is low. Expect friendly service and authentic thai food here.

Amazing Thai food. The banquet was ridiculously good, so many delicious and unique items!

Absolutely amazing and authentic Thai food. Nothing like it in Adelaide and so cheap! I love the larp hed and BBQ tofu. The staff are so friendly and they have loads of vegan options.

Average. They are selling street food at non-street food pricing. A papaya salad that is good for 1 is selling $15. We ordered a few dishes (2 entree, 1 soup and 1 noodles, 0 dessert, 0 drinks) for two pax and the bill comes two $72 for street food. Also, the food is overly spicy. Can't taste the flavour of each dish aside of being spicy.

Thai Street Food - More authentic than most. Sukhumvit SOI.38 Thai Street Food. Doing some of the usual Thai food.. but a lot of other tasty things I've not seen in the usual supposed Thai eateries before.
They area trying to be a little more authentic in their food, and it WORKS.
The menu, while not extensive is full of flavorsome foods even down to their $10 lunch specials. They also have a large specials board (10 items at least)
My 1st visit, I had 'Tiger Lily' grilled steak from the specials board, nicely cooked slices of beef with a delicious dipping sauce, served with a side of Sticky Rice. Next visit was the Kua Teaw Moo Tom Yum $10 lunch special, Hot and spicy noodle soup with pork, again delicious and different from what's become 'Tom Yum'.
Today's visit, I was in store for a real treat. Snapper Wings with a Jungle Curry sauce... SO GOOD.. Rich, perfectly cooked and so tasty. Spicy but not too hot.

Give it a go.

The scene is a little different at the Pulteney Street location with the same name. With over 20 dishes to choose from, customers get the opportunity to sample some of Thailand’s street food delicacies without having to fly over there.

Pad thai with rice noodles with chunks of chicken, small pieces of egg and a small amount of peanuts and chilli on the side with a wedge of lemon. Mixing it all together made for such a delicious dish with each strand of noodle filled with flavour and I loved the heat from the chilli and the crunch from the peanuts.
