Great food and service. The tasting menu had plenty of variety and was generous enough for two big eaters. All staff were knowledgeable, attentive without being overbearing and genuinely friendly. Each dish had multiple elements, but never felt over over complicated or faddish. Can't wait to go back!
We came here for my birthday and loved it. Every single plate of food was incredibly tasty and so delicate and pretty. Our waiter was really lovely and looked after us beautifully. As there were only 2 of us, we sat at the bar looking into the kitchen and it was like watching a ballet. We loved it and will definitely be back
I just wanted to drop a note to say that we had an incredible time at Sho today for lunch.
Dexter is an absolute ambassador for your business. It’s not often you find a highly skilled chef who also has exemplary front of house skill. He deftly personifies both sides of the business. He really is a gem, a delight to be served by and wonderful to chat away the afternoon with.
The yakitori experience was second to none. Our meal was perfectly paced, well explained and delicious!!!
It’s so exciting to have such an exciting place to visit whenever we want in Adelaide.
Big thanks!

Amazing food experiences to be had here! The roast cauliflower was unbelievable as was the lotus root and seaweed salt and vinegar crisps. This is no ordinary Japanese restaurant, this is an exciting culinary experience to let your tastebuds enjoy! Our first visit we are not one grain of rice.....??!!! Love this place
The ambience when you walk in , the music, the professionalism from the staff created an air of expectation of what may come from the menu.
We were advised to select up to 8 sharing dishes to experience the intent behind the menu.
Well....after our drinks were served (loved the Yuzu HIghball) ...the dishes arrived to our table one at a time, perfectly paced through the evening. Amazing........each selection unique. Congratulations to the team of Shobosho!
What excellent food and drink, food was absolutely amazing, staff great, friendly and know their stuff, great atmosphere, could do with better front shop signage nearly walked past it...we will return soon hopefully.
Absolutely outstanding dinner. Loved the experience from the moment I walked in. Nice touch on the menu, if you can't decide what to order. Choose the "Feed Me" menu choice and let the team deliver dish after dish. Loved it & will be back when I'm next in town.
For our Perth group of Food Tour travellers this was a treat! The Chefs menu gave us an amazing array of sumptuous dishes showcasing the kitchens creativity. Fabulous flavour and textural combinations. What a meal, great service, good kitchen cabaret. Harriet was lovely too. Love your work Shobosho x
Amazing food and great atmosphere - couples are seated along the bar to watch the cooking, but this made the experience even better! Will definitely be back!
Fantastic - one of the best in Adelaide. Excellent service, amazing flavored and a kitchen and staff who are equal parts excellent entertainment and stunning craftsmanship.
Was in adelaide for the weekend ... my home town and saw this place Friday evening and ate here Saturday
Exceeded all expectations-ambience, vibe and the food was faultless the head chef runs a tight ship and is inspirational
World class dining in Adelaide , I could have been in New York or Tokyo but it was Radelaide
This place is awesome! Definitely get the steak and the staff are really friendly
We went here for our anniversary date last night after a recommendation from a friend. As soon as we stepped into the restaurant we were taken back to Japan with the decor upstairs, and an open style kitchen with Japanese chefs focusing on their courses with diligence. There’s also a yakitori bar downstairs that we will be back for.
Due to covid-19 they were only offering their set menus as an option. It was between a $55 for four courses or $75 for six including dessert. We opted for more food of course!
Entree was a raw salmon with wasabi oil, salt and vinegar nori chips, spicy mushroom and eggplant noodles, and pot sticker dumplings. Main was a teriyaki chicken with smoked cream and roasted onions, grilled leek and whelk oil, and a curry fried bread. Dessert was a black sesame and berry cheesecake.
I have to say I enjoyed every single dish that we were served. My favourite was the teriyaki chicken as it brought another level of tasty to an iconic dish with the smoky cream, spit roasted chicken and sauce that you lapped up with the bread.
Portions were perfect and the dishes were spaced out so you felt satisfied at the end.
Cannot recommend Shobosho enough.
Went here for a date and it’s got to be one of the most fun dates we’ve had! We were super lucky to get in as we didn’t reserve but the staff were super nice and the food was incredible!
This place was recommended to us by a friend who visited Adelaide and told us how amazing this place was. We went for a special occasion and decided on the, let us feed you option (5 courses) for 4 people. The restaurant is minimalist and looks and feels like you have stepped out of a laneway in Tokyo into a restaurant. The presentation of the food was as amazing as expected.
4 highlights were the Tasmanian Salmon, tatami, ponzu and wasabi. The cold Shanghai noodles, spiced chicken, mushroom, black vinegar, crispy chilli and sesame. The spiced pork and cabbage potsticker dumpling. Spit roast teriyaki chicken, bbq onions, miso creamed corn and wood baked shallot bread. The teriyaki chicken was tender and the best teriyaki chicken I have ever had.
Service was excellent. Wine menu was good. Definitely a hidden hem on Leigh Street.
Must try restaurant in Adelaide! I’m not often amazed by every dish that I’ve ordered at a restaurant, but at Shobosho every dish was better than the last. Everything on the menu is so full of flavour with a modern take on traditional Japanese favourites. The Garfish in Crab Congee and Teriyaki Chicken mains introduced new an exciting flavour combinations that I wouldn’t have thought to put together, but somehow work so well. Shobosho also has an extensive drinks menu, bringing together Japanese classics such as sake and plum wine, while showcasing wine some of the local wine regions. This place is worth trying out!
Omg, Seriously the best dumplings I had. I am very impressed. The potstickers highly recommended! I will definitely come back for more. The service was excellent! Restaurant very clean & staff very freindly! Loved it! Just what I needed after a long day!
Finally! I made it to Shobosho! Been on the list for ages! Happy face!
We did not book, so were seated at the bar right in front of the kitchen and chefs! Interesting place to be! Every seat was taken at lunch time.
Loved it, loved everything about it, great atmosphere, great service, like you have stepped into a restaurant in Japan! Exactly the same concept! Awesome.
Food was delish, however, it’s a bit pricy for what it is, I thought a bit of leek for $17 was a bit much, tasted nice (a bit of salt was needed on the leek), maybe 2 pieces would be better value!
Had the salt & vinegar chips, very nice, but overpowered by the (I think) seaweed powder, only needs a little sprinkle, otherwise yum. Dumplings are good, the chicken oyster dish is a standout and the pork katsu sandwich is totally overrated, would be better with Japanese bread and more dressing.
I would certainly return to try other dishes that were whizzing past me, because I just have to!
Definitely worth a visit!
Love the atmosphere here - being able to see the kitchen and the flames jumping around adds something to your dining experience. The menu has a variety of plates from smaller to larger and we gradually worked our way down the menu. The dumplings and the pork katsu sandwich are must haves. All the meals were great for sharing and were delicious. Excellent service all through lunch.
One of the most innovative dishes we’ve ever had. The portions are definitely small but they’re perfect for us as we can try a lot of different dishes instead of sticking to one big meal. We started with 4 small dishes - Salt, Vinegar & Nori Potato Chips; Octopus, Black Sesame, Wasabi Cucumbers, Mentaiko; Raw Tuna, Edamame, Black Rice, Bonito Cream, Grilled Nori; Tasmanian Salmon Tataki, Ponzu, Wasabi - loved every one of them. But if I have to have favorites then it’ll be those crispy and light chips & fresh well seasoned tuna. I’m not a fan of wasabi but the wasabi cucumbers and the ones in the salmon were not over powering and worked really well with the dishes. Amazing! Next we had White Kimchi dumplings and Spiced Pork dumplings and the kimchi dumplings were so innovative without being weird, definitely another favorite of mine. We ended our meal with the Salt & Pepper Flounder which was crispy, salty (which I love) and cooked to perfection. So although they are all small portions, we were quite full in the end so decided to skip dessert. Overall - amazing food! They change menu regularly so I’m looking forward to go back and try what else they have to offer.
A truly unique and extremely delicious experience. I usually frown upon ‘fusion’ cuisine but these dishes were original and full of flavour. Favourites were the fish kaarage, korean gnocchi and the surprisingly light passionfruit cheesecake. The feed me menu $65 each was definitely worth it.
Came first time for my birthday dinner and got the kitchen to pick our meals , some dishes were amazing and some were lacking . Came back a second time and picked our own meals and it was more enjoyable experience . Definitely a fave
Awesome restaurant. Sitting at the kitchen bar creates a good atmosphere. Great flavours and textures across the menu. Standouts for us on this visit were the fresh tuna and spicy pork pot stickers. Other winners are the blackened chicken, smoked/charred leek, crispy pork sandwich and kaarage fish. Will have to try the lamb dish and the onion flat bread next time.
Just visited Shobosho out of curiosity and was not disappointed. I was a little weary as the menu changes daily so your not 100% sure what your going to get, however, the diversity of both hot and cold dishes, from veggie to meat heavy, this establishment has something for everyone.
I ordered a salmon tataki which was served with a ponzu and wasabi sauce which was light, fresh and overall a lovely start to the meal. Next, I ordered the katsu sando which was very surprising. Usually sando of the pork cutlet varieties can be soggy and not that great, however what I got was far above expectation. A juicy pork cut done in a crisp batter served with tonkatsu and kewpie sauce alongside some crisp pickles and cabbage of course sandwiched between the most light and fluffy bread. I was full after that but I wanted to eat so much more as I was seated at the bench overlooking the kitchen and I could see all this amazing food go out.
Overall, go there people, it’s worth it!
Three couples had lunch at Shobosho on a Sunday. I had phoned earlier in the week to book a particular table & I would recommend doing this for larger groups as the restaurant was busy. The staff were a delight, helpful & professional. The food was superb, with the kitchen doing an excellent job. I will definitely be back.
What a crowd pleaser. The chefs here should be super proud of what they’re dishing up. The design of the restaurant is very cool and comfortable, I dined here alone and was completely at ease. The wait staff were really down to earth and welcoming too offering great pairing suggestions. I had the potato chips and 1/4 chicken - both were bloody great. Thanks legends.
This is a bit of a different review. I had the opportunity to eat Chef Adam Liston's food at Tasting Australia Glasshouse Kitchen: Rivers and Seas. He prepared the first course. Since there is no where I can review the chefs of the Glasshouse Kitchen. I'm parking it here. To read the review click on the link below. It's part 1 of the two part blog. Could not believe the prep and work that went into making the dish.
Never imagine I would find a place like this in Adelaide. Highly recommend. The staff were nice. The food is AMAZING. Would like to go back again . Every food that I ordered, all of them was tasty.
An amazing dining experience! The waiter was so helpful and friendly. Loved the creativity and flair with which each dish was presented. A complete tastebud extravaganza! Thank you Shoshobo for delivering the goods!
We just had the most delightful lunch! Super attentive and knowledgeable staff and the food was incredible. The absolute standouts were the pork chilli dumplings, the katsu Sando was freaking delicious, loved the wood charred whole fish and the real jewel in the crown was the half rotisserie chicken on eggplant purée and served with leek flat breads!! Far out. Ridiculously delicious. Would definitely go back. I think we totally lucked out having the restaurant pretty much to ourselves for a relaxed Saturday lunch with mates. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it!
I have mixed feelings about our visit to Shobosho. Putting aside the obvious (who you are dining with) when I go to any restaurant, it is always predominantly for the food. However jovial the experience, the food dictates.
The reason I have mixed feelings, is because generally the food was excellent at Shobosho. I can’t help but feel, through a combination of the table we were seated at, the unusual demeanour of the service, and just a vibe, that there is improvement that can be made.
And one element restaurant design that I’ve never really thought about, is having every table in view of the floor staff, or at least the floor staff having a regular need to be overseeing the tables. On a cold night in Adelaide, the position of our table, outside of the main area of the restaurant, but next to the opening, was not ideal.
In the end, little of this detracts from my personal rating of Shobosho. With some exquisite food, such as nine hour lamb buns, aged wagyu skewers, incredible Japanese custard, and very nice five spice roasted chicken, it is hard to really be critical.
We walked past and thought we would give Shobosho a try. Firstly, the service was above and beyond. We had 2 waiters and they both offered their expertise in not only the food but the wine. I loved the wine so much that I wanted to buy a bottle (ok maybe 'bottles' to send back home too!!!) and the waiter told me of the distributor in Adelaide that was walking distance away.. WINNING, he even drew a map!
The food was excellent, we ordered Raw yellow fin tuna, charred eda mame, black rice, bonito cream / Tsukune “king of yakitori”, chicken meatball, egg, tare / Katsu - sando, crumbed pork meatball sandwich.
The Tsukune king of yakitori was unlike anything I have ever had before, the yolk which was slightly cooked and so runny you mix with the juices and sauce.. take my money now - OUTSTANDING!

+4
Solid effort.
Napkins were divine.
Easy 4 stars (4.5 had we had a description of what was in the dumplings)

Walked pass this place and decided to have lunch here. We like the design of the place. We noticed the chef checked the beef a 4 or 5 times before it was served. Quite happy with the food. It is a bit pricey. But glad we tried it.
This was my first time eating Japanese style food
Was to die for, me and my mate were just wondering the streets looking for a place to eat and made a random call to go in staff were superb and fun, and never let your beer go empty, food Was served fast but still looked fantastic will differently be coming back here next time in Adelaide!
A delightful lunch at this establishment. As a party of two we were promptly seated at a booth. We shared a number of dishes, all of which were flavoursome. The ramen lunch special and snapper karage were standout dishes, although there wasn't a dish we didn't enjoy. Our wait staff were all lovely. Would definitely recommend a visit here.
Looking for somewhere new to have lunch with the girls one Winter's day, I (Amanda) decide on giving Shobosho on Leigh Street a try. Lovers of Japanese food, we were excited to try the various cooking styles Shobosho use, including Japanese yakitori, smoking, steaming, fire, raw, cured, pickled and fermented.
Amazing food. Amazing service. Stunning venue. Thank you so much. The ume spritz was beautiful. Light and refreshing. Will visit next time in Adelaide
July 3, 2017 By She Said What in Food & Drink, Uncategorized Tags: Adelaide, dinner spot, Favourites, food, Japanese food, Love, review Leave a comment. Since it’s opening earlier this year, Shobosho has gotta be one of the most hip and happenin’ eateries in the city centre. I would have got there sooner but I made a booking online one time and then something came up and I forgot to cancel it. They called me, they emailed me, I felt stupid and then of course I couldn’t go there incase they recognised me. Sure, maaaaaaybe I blew this out of proportion a little but after waiting a couple of months I finally felt confident enough to head in there incognito. My friend booked under her name of course!
Very nice fit out! Well thought out and executed. Waiter told us they were only a month old so we were expecting a few teething problems. I really wanted to love the food but it didn't hit the spot for me. Fingers crossed they make a some tweaks before I return
Simon Kardachi has done it again. In conjunction with Adelaide-born chef Adam Liston, he’s transformed the old Leigh Street Bollywood site into an Asian barbecue restaurant and bar, Shobosho. And, in line with his other 8 ventures including Osteria Oggi, Press Food & Wine and the Pot Food & Wine, Kardachi has once again been successful in creating a quality venue based around the concept of large and small share plates and a solid beverage list. In terms of fit out, it’s cool and minimalist. On one side there’s the kitchen/bar, on the opposite wall, booth seating and in the middle, table seating.
Fantastic - beautifully presented + delicious food! I've been twice & enjoyed it both times. My picks are the raw tuna + charred edamame + bonito cream dish (also tasty with salmon), korean seaweed crisps, the chicken meatball tsukune (king of yakitori) and the wagyu steak (grade 9+). The dessert we had on the weekend - yuzu ice cream sandwich was amazing! Their menu is constantly changing so i'm looking forward to going back to and trying other dishes.
Had dinner on a Friday night. Early booking. The food was tasty without being exceptional. We had the tasting menu but would order our own the next time we go. The staff were lovely and always helpful, but little things like taking 25 minutes to get a menu to us and not wiping up the table after mains let it down. The desserts were the highlight for me. So much potential. Will come back in a few months and go on a quieter night.
So so so sooo impressed with the amazing late lunch we had here, everything was impeccable, special mention to the highball cocktail and the tuna
We dined in on Easter Monday after making a booking online. We needed to make a last minute adjustment on the time and number of diners, and they were very helpful in accommodating our request.
The food was amazing at Shobosho! Simple and quality ingredients turned into uniquely scrumptious dishes. Everything we ordered here had amazing flavours. The fried rice, chicken and eggplant were all great, and complimented each other perfectly as well.
They are amazing. We were so glad we sat next to the bar - seeing chefs are cooking/producing a great amount of the foods in order which was quite entertaining to watch. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Foods are great, very generous amount. We saw a lot of leek/eggplants dishes were going out - wish we ordered them too. Willing to come back & highly recommended
Simply stunning. The team are incredible to watch sitting at the bar inn front of the kitchen. A well oiled machine with everyone working in perfect synchronicity.
The wine list is small but with great choices across all price bands.
The food (THE FOOD) was incredible. I have to say I love Japanese and given we haven't visited this restaurant before, we decided on the feed me package. It was incredible. Generous servings, flavours and presentation that lifts this restaurant well above the average excellent Japanese restaurant.
There was a line at 9pm so be sure to book. Seating inside or out is available.
I only rate awesome and horrid. This place was at the pointy end of awesome.
Happy eating
Six stars. If only that were possible. This is my FAVOURITE restaurant in the country!!!! I live in Canberra and dine in Melbourne and Sydney a lot (that consulting life…) and this place outshines the best of the best across the country. The staff are so friendly, knowledgeable and pleasant. They are easily the best in the game (especially Peta). Her service, knowledge and communication was sensational. She really made our evening special.
I also can’t get over the prices. Silver service places charge more and they WISH their food and service was this good!! Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant, for example, charges more but their food and service is nowhere near as good. Sean’s Kitchen also wishes they could serve red meat as good as the aged ribs here (they can’t and Sean’s Kitchen prices are a joke for the quality of food they serve - go to Shobosho and get the Aged Ribs instead).
The food is amazing, cooked to perfection with beautiful flavours and amazing presentation. The aged ribs was the stand out dish, although everything we had was 10/10. Even the bread was something special. The atmosphere, food and staff make this a truly special place that I would come back to time and time again.
Wonderful place for a fancy dinner!
Only a short wait between dishes even though it was quite busy, and service was exceptional.
We picked our dishes to share instead of the feed me options.
Large selection of different dishes (most made to share) on the menu, with some being more generously sized than others.
For the price point everything lived up to, and even exceeded our expectations!
Awesome atmosphere and great food. Favourites were definitely the rib steak and Teri chicken. Amazingly curated favours for the mains. Sando and crab udon was delicious too although bit pricey for the small portion for those 2 items
Menu is simple and effective with some of the dishes. Eggplant was delicious, leek was so over cooked only 40% of the dish was edible. Oysters were great, along with the Salmon.
Chicken was pink and blushed for 40% of the dish, very chewy and hard to cut and eat. Apparently it’s Sous vide for 24hrs, according to the staff. Not sure how accurate this is? However it was really blush and hard to cut through. We left it.
Worth a visit but order wisely.
Food and service was amazing! Each dish was innovative and well balanced. I wish we had come here earlier so we could go back again. Will definitely be back when we're in Adelaide!
