Food was mouth watering. I celebrated my bday there courtesy of my daughter. And the food was superb, cant fault any dish from the entree' to the main dishes we ordered. I love the turmeric rice..the prawns was yummy and the burramandi fish was so crunchy.
After 3 days went back there to celebrate my friends bday as i recommended the place. We were not dissapointed. My friends were so happy and satisfied with the food they said they will definitely go back there.

Food was delicious. I had the Leather Jackets which were amazing others had the squid, fish plate and the veg noodle dish everything was thoroughly enjoyed. Desserts were different and a perfect way to end the meal. Definitely be going again.
Amazing food and service. Had the beef cheeks which were tender and the curry sauce was to die for. The F-duck was good size and tasted great. Must try the pandan and coconut crepes which was one of the best desserts I have tasted. Very memorable experience. Thank you.
Great atmosphere and cool / trendy vibe - staff were lovely and helpful + great service. Food was amazing... The best meal I've had in a long time! The King Prawns and Beef Cheek were lovely! Definitely recommend paying Fish Head a visit!!
Wow, fish curry and duck. Easily the best I've had in a very long time. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Definitely recommend.
Great restaurant. We all enjoyed our dishes, I had the Fish Man Plate which was a fab selection of textures and flavours. Friendly and helpful staff who were able to describe anything on menu. Have wanted to go there for sometime and was not dissappointed. Will go again. So many tempting dishes on menu
Meals are amazing! Every dish that comes out just gets better and better! Staff and service is the best I've ever experienced and it is well priced. Love Love LOVE this place!
Had work Xmas lunch at this little gem. Great decor, amazing waitress, and the food was divine. We had a banquet and every dish was faultless— so much flavour. Highly recommended.
Great service, beautiful cocktails and the best duck I have ever eaten!!! Great jobs guys will be back with more friends loved it👌
Excellent food absolutely delicious, meals came out quickly. Decently priced. Totally recommend 👍🏻👍🏻
Amazing food , seven entrees and seven main courses and each dish was incredible. Friendly service, we’ll be back.
Impeccable food really! The entrees were just superb, overall lovely flavours, and those fish cakes? 👌🤤 The mains were also somewhat generous in terms of portion sizes and each dish was not lacking in flavour. I did find the beef rendang to be a bit tough, and was a bit disappointed with the small bugtails. Nevertheless, this is a mid-tier dining experience and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
🍽️: Fish Curry, Butter Chicken, Beef Cheeks, Crispy Barramundi, Kang Kong, Naan,
👍: Great spread of Indian, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisine! Beef Cheeks were amazingly tender, Curries were on point and a joy to dip the garlic naan into! Fish Fillet Curry with fish head lived up to the name of the restaurant hype!
👎: Would prefer more dressing on the crispy barramundi
📝: Very attentive and helpful staff! Do yourself a favour and go for the full experience by ordering the fish fillet curry WITH the fish head option!
Tasty fusion of Indonesia, Indian and Malay. The food looked delicious, smelt amazing and tasted just as good. Each and every dish was well balanced, the perfect amount of spice and the meat melted in your mouth. The restaurant was a little acoustic but the food is worth the noise..
FLAVOUR, FLAVOUR, FLAVOUR
Moody lighting & good service.
Entrees of bug tails, eggplant fritters & prawn/fish cakes were all fab.
Naan was fresh, hot & satisfying.
Mains of chicken chop chop devoured. The Head or no Head fish stew is a large serve & suited to two people sharing it with rice. I got it with no head & even though it was luscious, I needed to take a lot home because my eyes were bigger than my belly.
Plastic containers were provided for me to fill at the table.
The leftovers were just as good the next day.
My daughter brought me to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. We ordered the banquet menu which came with chicken satay, Eggplant Fritters, Crispy pork belly, beef Cheek, Butter chicken, the king prawns, pepper and salt Squid, naan and rice.
I came without much expectation of the food, but soon I realised that I had underestimated the chef's expert cooking. The food was simply fantastic. It was just delicious beyond description.
My favourite dishes were the Beef Cheek and Chicken Satay. The meat was very tender and tasty. I love the texture of the naan that chef made. It went very well with the Butter Chicken and the Beef Cheek.
The food portions were generous with reasonable price too.
We really love the cozy ambience and the warm and welcoming service of this restaurant. We will definitely come back again and I will strongly recommend this dining place to my friends too.
The flavour is they key strength of their food!!
I tried couple of dishes for entrees, which were delicious and had generous portion size.
Mains also had huge portions.
Yellow rice was pretty ordinary, but the mains had all their food deconstructed in one plate(which was really good and you could enjoy every ingredient as well).
Must go for those who want to try some sophisticated asian food!
Had the eggplant fritters and pork belly for entre. Eggplant fritters was a little dissapointing as they were not crispy and as light as expected. The pork belly however was crispy and the sauce itself was delicious. For mains we were recommended the beef cheeks which was truly a great dish. Tender and full of flavour. Not too spicy. Would definitely eat this again. The fish curry however was more of a creamy version of fish curry and unlike the original Malaysian fish head curry which is more savoury and spicier. Service was efficient and friendly.
Everyone must visit. Just happened upon this place. Food is amazing. We ordered all Tapas style share plates - didn't get to mains as so much to choose from in the 'Hawker' section.
The food was delicious - all dishes were packed with flavour. We had soft shell crab, satay and beef cheek. The beef cheek was a definite winner, tender meat with a delicious sauce. It is pretty loud inside due to the hard furnishings so it lacks a bit of ambience, however, they do have nice additions like candles all around the place which is visually attractive. Staff were nice but we did have to wait an additional 15 minutes after booking time for the people before to leave the table. I somewhat feel that staff should tell these people should be asked to move on. It was a pleasant, low-key meal and overall a nice dining experience.
What a great find! Really well thought out and prepared Asian fusion! Fantastic service! We started with soft shell crab which was stunning, and the balance of flavour in the accompanying salad just perfect! We shared the pork belly, a little less mind blowing but good. The crispy barramundi was sensational, cooked in an Indonesian gurame style with a delicious and again perfectly balanced Thai style salad on the side with green mango! Dessert was sticky rice served in a coconut, delightful, and Indonesian style pandan crepes a treat for this ex Indonesian expat! Definitely one that I will come back to over and over again!

Adelaide has some really rocking modern Asian fusion restaurants, and Fish Head joins the ranks with gusto. Offering Indonesia, Malay and Indian cuisine, the menu is exciting and fresh, just like the food. We went for dinner on a stinking hot weeknight, and ordered a bunch of dishes to share. First up, the tempura soft shell crab with a herb salad ($15.50) was utterly delicious – the crabmeat was tender, the shell crisp and the salad had a good amount of kick to it. The crispy pork belly ($12.50) paled a bit in comparison, and the staff didn’t explain there were only 3 pieces (4 of us were sharing), which was disappointing. But the mains were all excellent, starting with the gado gado ($17.50), drenched in
Great food, professional service. I wasn't game to try the signature dish of the whole fish, with or without the head! Was quite happy with my veg head dish with the addition of extra chillies. Partner very happy with his gigantic lamb shank, meat fell off the bone & happy to say there was lots of additional vegetables.
I’ve been a bit slow on checking out Fish Head, but all the reports that I’ve heard have been very positive. Like many of his other successful businesses, Walter Ventura is once again behind the scenes, this time serving up a South East Asian fusion of Malay, Indonesian and a touch of Indian. The menu is well laid out with everything on a single piece of paper. Customers can choose from small Hawker dishes or more substantial Luxe offerings. Superstar Chef, Nu Suandokmai once worked here and is now over at Mrs Q, so it was interesting to see whether the food was still up to the reputed high standard.
Fish head is probably one of the better new restaurants in China town as there seems to be a lot of franchise restaurants opening up which is a real shame. They have a reasonable menu and we enjoyed most of the dishes we ordered. The fish head curry was nice but not really traditional, a good option for not so adventurous eaters as you can order without the head. The gado gado was my favourite main of the night as it was full of flavour. The prawns were ok but haven't left a big impression on me so I could take it or leave it. The squid was really tough and chewy, I'd give it a miss as so many places do it well in China town. Our entree chicken wings were really tasty as well as the street beef naan, if I returned I'd probably go for a few more shared entrees. There were a couple of pescatarians and there were loads of choices for them in the menu so that was a real strength of the menu. We paired the food with a couple bottles of down the rabbit hole Pinot which went really well with the mild flavours of the food. The staff were quite good and I liked the ambience of the restaurant.
Literally couldn't fault the place. Had the most amazing dinner here tonight with friendly relaxed service. So much flavour and a great variety at great prices! Highly recommend!!!!!! The fish head curry (no head) was our highlight
The name Fish Head comes as a bit of a surprise to many and probably not very appetizing. That was the response we received from our friends when we organised to have dinner there. Fortunately they came along and we proceeded to have a great night. As Walter Ventura closed British India he opened Fish Head which serves up Indo-Malay and Indian cuisine. Now you see why I wanted to go. I thought it would be promising when I found out that Nu Suandokmai is heading the kitchen along with Rakesh Chandra from British India and Kenneth Ting from Concubine. Nu himself has worked on Nu Thai, Gin Long Canteen, Golden Boy and Cliché Exhibition so there’re some heavyweights in the kitchen.
Yum! I went here with a group of 4. The entrees were great - the eggplant fritters were crunchy and well seasoned and the pork belly was delicious too. The fish head curry was a little hard to eat especially if you're sharing dishes. But all the mains were rich and flavoursome. The yellow rice was surprisingly delicious too! The service was really attentive as well. We will be back again!
Great experience at this restaurant. Two of us had the beef cheeks and two had the duck. The duck was very flavoursome and generous portions. The beef cheeks are to die for. Lovely spicy coconut sauce and super tender beef cheeks make this meal one of my favourites from any place I've been to this year.
The Malaysian fish head curry was sensational! We also had the soft shell crab & lobster, delicious. Attentive & helpful service. We'll be back!
Absolutely delicious food. We had Entree: lamb ribs, beef naan and soft shell crab. Mains: beef cheek (so soft and tender), duck and leather jacket fish. Side: Kang Kong (spicy as the ones you have in asia)
Service was absolutely great, asked for warm water and they kept in warm in hot water bath in the wine cooler.
Was blown away. Will come back again.
One of the better options in the Chinatown district imho. Had a voucher for free mains (the first one I've used EVER) and they didn't have an attitude about it. Service was very friendly and attentive, and the two servers we dealt with obviously were passionate about their food, making very useful suggestions for us who weren't so into malaysian food. Food came out quickly. Mixed skewers were nice, and the side salads were fresh and tasty. Duck main was the best of the lot. Desserts were a bit of a letdown admittedly because I don't like coconut, and the three options available (all of which we tried) each had at least a hint of coconut. Will definitely try again.
Loved all of the bursting flavours that fish head has to offer from the amazing cocktails (Lichi-Chili - WOAH
Excellent food & service! No idea what some reviewers are on about below - I'm pretty sure it's Indonesian not Malaysian. For entrée we had the eggplant fritters; absolute heaven!! Then we had their version of the Indian Spinach Paneer curry, also delicious. It had its own unique flavours, so not simply a generic recreation. We also had the duck. Wasn’t fantastically easy to share but tasty never the less. The desserts sounded amazing and we tried the one our server recommended – wonderful. We left very, very happy. Décor, graphic design & website were also cool.
Very very tasty food. Had six of the "hawkers" dishes and one main course between four of us. Plenty of food. Every dish was excellent. Service was excellent and very helpful. Make sure you leave room for desert as they are also up there. $15 corkage. We will return.
Absolutely delicious food! Came here with a group of workmates and had the $38 option, which gave us 3 dishes from the "Hawker" section and 3 from the "Luxe" section, chosen by the chef. For entrees, we were served the Satay skewers, Eggplant Fritters and Pork Belly (I don't think this is on the regular menu). The chicken and pork & veal skewers themselves were not that special, but the peanut dipping sauce they came with was absolutely delicious. The pork belly wasn't the best I have had, but it was still decent. I'm not a huge fan of crackling, but it was very crunchy, which I know would excite a lot of people. The eggplant fritters were my favourite of the three by far. Wonderfully crispy without being greasy, and the sauce it came with was beautifully creamy and flavourful.
The mains we got were the Beef Cheek, King of Prawns, Butter Chicken, Ribs (which doesn't appear to be on the menu) and fried squid. Each of them were absolutely delectable. Exquisite and complex flavours from top quality ingredients. I especially loved the curry sauce in the butter chicken, but the winning dish for me was the beef cheek. The meat was amazingly tender and juicy, falling apart easily with a few soft prods with a spoon. The flavour was on point, too. I went back for seconds even though I was already getting full. The squid was great as well. Very tasty and moreish. The whole cashews scattered throughout the dish provided a great contrasting texture.
All in all a top meal, and great service to match. $38 for the amount of food is fantastic value; we all left with stuffed bellies. Highly recommended!
Fish Head offers Indonesian, Malaysian and Indian dishes that retain the heart and flavour of those cuisines but presented in a modern way.
I got to sample the soft shell crab, and the satay dish as entrees. The satay sauce was perfect and made the chicken and beef that came with it even better. The crunch and crispiness of the soft shell crab sounded like it echoed across the room, and the salads and the dressing that came with it made me scavenge for every last bit of green I could find. The acidity of the dressing was magnificent.
I had the nasi lalapan, which was a chicken dish, and king of prawns. The high standard of the sauces and accompaniments from the entrees followed through the mains. The yellow rice gave the chicken an ideal oriental flavour and the green chilli sambal provided a nice heat. The chicken was crispy, and deliciously tender. The snake bean dried coconut salad perfectly balanced the heat.
I have never eaten a more perfectly cooked prawn till I tried the King of Prawns. The sauce that covered the prawns was absolutely majestic.
For dessert I had the pandan crepes with ice-cream, and a mango and coconut panna cotta. That mango and coconut is definitely one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. It has this silky texture and perfect mango and coconut flavour, and I would advise that if you are having dessert with friends or partners, that you simply get your own because this dessert is too valuable to share.
Absolutely astonishing that food is this amazing and to be of great value too.
I keep using the word perfect, but that’s the only way I can describe the experience here. Fish Head being a new restaurant sets a new standard of quality not only for asian cuisine but for all existing restaurants to meet. With Fish Head’s masterful interpretations of indo-malay cuisines by showcasing the dishes with beautiful and artistic presentation, and faultlessly cooked food I eagerly look forward to dining here again.
Fish Head seemed to pop up out of the blue. I hadn’t heard anything about it until someone told me after it had opened. It’s another venture from Walter Ventura and it’s in the same location as another one of his restaurants, British India in Morphett Street. Out with the old, in with the new it seems and I think it’s a welcome change, capitalising on the current popularity of south east Asian food.
Loved every bite! Extremely authentic food. Listening in to an elderly couple next to me they were also really happy with their meals. Good portions, friendly service, great atmosphere. Definitely a place to visit if you're in town!
WOW! The best curry i have not made! Had a fish men plate and the sauce was super tasty, if i want to be picky my fish was slightly too done. Could do with a bit more fish with the price 😉. Overall it's worth the money curry. Husband had chicken curry again the sauce pretty authentic but i would prefer chicken tigh than the oyster part we didn't get much meat in it.
We had fried eggplant for starter and it was scrumptious too.
The service is very attentive.
Looking forward to try others things and see us soon.
Great food and atmosphere! Staff were also great at recommending options!
How lucky are we to have this fantastic restaurant in Adelaide !!! If you love seafood and the fusion of bold South-Eastern Asian flavours its for you. If you don't like spice, heat and prefer bland, stay away. 10/10
Good variety of food and very friendly staff. Got the eggplant fritters and lamb shank and would recommend both highly
The food was awesome. There were four of us and we had an array of food to share. The beef cheeks is a must. The flavours were amazing. I'm not a big seafood fan but the soft shell crab was delicious. We also had eggplant fritters, samosa and a few more dishes that I can't remember. However, all I can say they were all delicious.
The pricing is reasonable, what you'd expect from a good restaurant.
Had the opportunity to meet the owner as well.
It's on my list to go again.
