Muc sua chien gion or crispy fried baby squid, smoked chilli and my all time fave smell in the world, kaffir lime. I was kept amused by this dish, I would even call it a fun dish. It seems kind of strange calling it fun. I just could not get enough of the initial crunch, then the teeth gliding through butter sensation. I had inner childish squeals of delight and did all I could to stifle bouncing up and down on my seat. Not even noticing the rise in temperature until it was too late. The flavours were oh so subtle, as they should be when paired with squid. Onlyifitsgood
We had our work EOFY function at Madam Hanoi tonight. I cannot rate highly enough the quality of food and service we received. We were thoroughly looked after from the moment we walked in, nothing was too much of an ask, even with all of our perculiar dietary requirements. Huge thanks to Josh (I think?!) For taking such good care of us!
A stunning venue, great facilities (that handcream in the toilets omg) & I cannot begin to describe how good the food is. I was lucky enough to get this fried egg dish as a vegetarian special - this was the BEST dish and deserves a place on the permenant menu! Thank you so much for a perfect function; we will be back.
Was a lovely meeting place for 4 girls to catch up..lovely light meal..great expresso martinis ..staff were lovely and friendly..not a loud noisy place so great for chats....
Wow wow wow - try the salmon from their specials on the menu - what a fantastic dish. And the Salad with it is even more to die for. I want more
It was a Saturday night and we just got in for drinks. A very friendly and well mannered barman made us the best Pisco Sour in Adelaide. Thanks Johan for your caring and great service :)
I strongly recommend this place especially Johan who certainly knows how to make the best drinks in town
Great experience, came in for a quick dinner before the theatre and was seated very quickly, the customer service was amazing, we ordered a selection of small menu items to share and everything was delicious, I especially enjoyed the soft shell crab bun, would definitely recommend and will be back.
Two nights in a row, it's that good! Highly recommend the tuna. But everything we ate was full of flavor and delicious.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and lovely staff would highly recommend it if you want a taste of Vietnamese food.
I just love this restaurant the food is always great but the chicken wings are superb don't miss ordering those! The service was excellent very friendly informative waitress! Highly recommend!
First time at Madame Hanoi. Couldn't fault the food. Presented well and full of flavor. Beautiful surroundings. Service was excellent. Sat afternoon for lunch.
I thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful lunch catch-up at your wonderful restaurant with a dear friend yesterday. I loved the ambience but then again I love the history of the building, having been born into an SA railway family. The food was divine, the moscato I had was delicious and the staff were brilliantly attentive & polite. I finally got to see the fantastic wall art. Thank you to the staff at Madame Hanoi!
Wow and I mean wow!!! The food here just caught me by surprise... I went to this place for the first time during the chilli festival and tried both their special menu and normal menu dishes.... None and I mean none of the dishes disappointed me... Everything was flavourful and delicious... I would have rated five stars except the portion size is small and it is pricey!
I ordered the goi xoai du du (green mango and papaya salad) and the suon cuu chua ngot (sticky lamb ribs) - perfect combo. The salad was light and fresh while the ribs were sticky yet tender... unfortunately both dishes were quite large so i didn't have room for pudding - the people sitting next to me said the banana cigars were gorgeous. I found room for the lumineux cocktail which was nice but not stunning.
Amazing! Truly. The sticky lamb ribs were phenomenal and the flavours complemented each other perfectly. Great cocktails. Great service. Great vibe. I don't usually write reviews but this place really stands out.
For someone who considers themselves a "foodie", I am not particularly adventurous in what I eat. I was brought here for a reunion dinner and was absolutely blown away. I ate things that I never pictured myself eating (like whole soft shell crab). Everything here is cooked perfectly with so much flavour and love. Beautiful decor and incredibly kind waitresses. The drink menu is fantastic with local craft beers on top and great cocktails. I haven't stopped talking about this place since I left and I can't wait to go back
Wow. There can be no other comment. Brilliant food. The scallops, squid and tuna were incredible. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. We’re from Melbourne and we will definitely be back. The lamb was rich and delicious. Thank you.
Fantastic food. We ordered the pork bao which had a generous serve of pork with the perfect balance of crunch and soft meat. The soft shell crab bao has less flavour and was on the dry side. The lamb ribs were amazing. The sweet and sticky was perfect. Service was good, food was delivered fast. I do no love chilli and having it served on the side was no issue. Madam Hanoi is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants Adelaide
10/10. Been here several times, have had items of the a la carte menu and tried several of the banquet menus. Never disappointing. Staff are great, approachable and very helpful. The delivery of French Vietnamese fusion is great. The atmosphere is amazing and the repurposing of such a grand old building is fitting. The food is fresh and flavour-filled. Well worth a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Goi vit or crispy confit duck, watermelon, hoisin and my second most fave smell in the world, Vietnamese mint. Now this one caught my eye almost immediately. I knew it was going to be to......die......for! Yep and we did, we died. Right there, in the restaurant. Dead! You know what? I'm not going to describe it. Go in and try it. You're welcome.

My partner and I came here on a recommendation for the concierge at our hotel room (we were on holidays).
Took a seat and looked around at the bustling place and happy faces everywhere. Beautiful staff and very polite.
We ordered a few bits and pieces and loved what we got. Nice, light, fresh and delicious. Every more so, the cocktails were great to!
Great evening out for dinner! Thanks
Once again another great meal, can't fault it table was a decent size for the 4 of us, drinks taken promptly and were happy to make me a dirty martini which was delicious. Servings were generous we loved the wings and the pork, prawn and noodle soup. The big man was freaked by the spider bun but I thought it was great. The ribs were kick ass. Everyone was stuffed and it was way cheaper than we imagined. I was very happy.
An overall enjoyable experience. The decor of this place is modern and situated near the Adelaide Casino. The serving size was generous and the Vietnamese style chicken curry had a lovely aroma of spices! The staff were friendly and accommodating throughout the night. Recommend this place for an enjoyable night out!
Having eaten both in the restaurant side and bar side (more limited menu), I haven't tried one item that I didn't like. But my absolute favourite that always keeps me coming back is the chicken wings!! Its crunchy and sweet. Another must is the pork belly baos! I am just a massive fan of the flavours here! A cool spot to go for after-work drinks and nibblies.
Friendly staffs and good duck salad, the tofu bao was okay but great thanks for letting me only ordered one (it was 3 pieces on the menu and i was sure I won't finish it by myself)
Went there alone and had a lovely time
Will be back with friends and try more dishes!
Madam Hanoi does lovely food, and the wait time here is great.
Service can be pretty awful depending on who you get. It always has been that way for the months I’ve been coming here. I work very close by so I come here just about every week. Even just a simple coffee order, they’re often not polite or friendly. But again it depends on who you get.
In terms of the menu, I’ve tried a number of things such as the squid bites, tofu buns, chicken wings, san chow bow. All spicy but delicious. Their macaroons, coffee and hot chocolate are wonderful.
Overall a place that serves high quality items but if anything needs improving, it’s the service.
I went for food and a coffee in the late afternoon, enjoyed the soft shell crab and tofu coriander bun. Service was good. I liked the sitting booths in the bar area which were comfortable and allowed privacy to do some work without disturbance. Being located in the casino complex it allowed exploration of the casino as well. Would highly recommend it.
Came here for Sunday lunch. There seems to be a steady stream of customers but didn't feel as though I needed a reservation.
Order a SA lager and the seared kangaroo salad. The food came out relatively quickly. There was a very good portion of salad to protein to rice noodles. I thought the accompanying sauce was a tad to sour and salty. A nice modern twist to Vietnamese combination rice noodle salad but unfortunately missed the sweet-salty-sour combination.
Service was friendly and efficient.
Will probably be back to see what else they have on the menu.
I came here with a friend, and we ordered all 4 flavours of the baos, and absolutely loved it! The baos were very fluffy and soft, as for the beef one, the beef was very tender, and despite the chilli, it wasn't too spicy. The soft shell crab was also really tasty, the crab flavour wasn't too strong (which I like), so keep that in mind; it complimented the chilli mayonnaise perfectly! My favourites were probably the pork belly, which was also very tender, however the skin wasn't crispy, but I personally liked it like that (despite usually loving the crispy skin). The salad made it very refreshing, so that the pork belly wouldn't taste too fatty or heavy. The tofu one was just as good, complimenting the chilli mayonnaise; it was very light with a kick!
In terms of the food, I definitely recommend coming here, however, the service was pretty slow, despite the restaurant not being busy; the food took around 30+ minutes to come out :(
Madame Hanoi has just launched a new lunch on the run takeaway menu and I was lucky enough to be one of 100 people that scored a free banh mi thit (pork banh mi). The roll had that good balance of crunchy outside and soft inside and was loaded with flavoursome fillings. Slightly more upmarket than your average banh mi with the addition of pate. Most importantly there was pork meat and crackling in every bite. The takeway menu had other delicious options including a banh mi with fried eggs, croque monsieur and nicoise salad.
We had a very enjoyable and delicious dinner at Madame Hanoi. It was a very hot day so were looking something light. We decided on sharing Heo quay cuon rau, goi vit and so diep nuong. The scallops were sensational! Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, very good service and lovely atmosphere.
Always love going here for an interesting meal with great flavors. Service is sometimes a little too fast which rushes the experience. The artwork etc looks great too.
Wonderful ambiance. Tall ceilings, piano playing and staff that understand the menu. Food was great especially the pork Ban. Not expensive either
Luckily there is a staff member to explain the menu for first timers as the dishes are unusual and it is good to know the protocol regarding which order to eat.
The venue is relaxed, not noisy and they offer the best mocktail I have ever had, a Polka and I went back several times during our stay just to enjoy the drink.
I was after a quick bite and ended up at Madame Hanoi. I had the salt and Pepper tofu - good but a little to salty for me. The Tofu bun sliders where good, a fair size of a potion. I could jot finish all 3 of them.
I went here last night with my mum and tried a few items on the menu. Everything we ate was beautiful! The crab rolls were to die for. The green mango, carrot and peanut salad was magical-in fact I'm planning to attempt to recreate it at home for dinner this week. Prawns were fresh and salt and pepper squid was well coated. Staff were friendly and the place had a nice atmosphere. Side note the food was very spicy..I enjoyed the spice but some may find it too much so my tip let the chefs know if you want less chilli. Great place to go and try!
Great tasty Asian fusion style food very similar to Melbourne Asian fusion style places
Nice n tasty and spicy food great chicken wings and pork belly
Watermelon and duck salad nice as well as Saigon prawns great wine and drink list
Delicious food and good service. To drink I had the Saigon Storm, delicious combination and went down so easily I could have had 10. The chai about gave it a good twist. To eat we had the eggplant, sweet potato, greens, green mango salad and salt and pepper tofu. The tofu was amazing and the eggplant was smoky and melted I your mouth. Recommend and will return.

On The Chopping Board (OTCB) was invited to the launch of Madame Hanoi's Hendrick's High Tea. All food and beverages were provided on behalf of Madame Hanoi, a restaurant within the Adelaide Casino. We have been lucky to visit Madame Hanoi on a number of occasions, recently for a Bastille Day celebration and earlier in the year for their first birthday celebrations and a menu tasting (review here). Today we are here to try a French-Vietnamese high tea menu matched with a special pot of hot Hendrick's Gin Tea. I (Amanda) am a frequent high tea goer (see previous high tea reviews at Sean's Kitchen and the Mayflower) and was eager to see what Madame Hanoi had in store.
If you're regular readers of Tempting Palates you would know we have grown to have an affection for gin. So when we were invited to the Madame Hanoi Hendricks Gin High Tea, do you think we were excited? Yes! Of course we were! Madame Hanoi are now serving a different and exciting High Tea for High Tea lovers and we can say we had a lot of fun.
On a cold, wet night Madame Hanoi put a beacon out inviting us to the re-launch of their Madame’s Hendricks High Tea. I am a sucker for food on tiers! What can I say, I’m English after all. A prominent bath tub covered in flowers was on display upon entry to signify this was a gin event. Thank the knights of Arthur that we have moved passed making booze from a tub!
I really enjoyed dining here. The place is a lot bigger than I expected and expands over three levels. Food is unique and tasty and I was impressed that our waitress acknowledged my pregnancy and advised me of the dishes that would be safe for me to eat. Make sure you book here, it does get busy!
Admittedly, I only came to try this place because it was promoted on the entertainment book site. Food was quite unique with a bit of a French Vietnamese fusion style. The buns I think are the main attraction of the menu and a must try if coming for the first time. Interior was beautiful and gives off a very 5 star feel to the whole place.
Madame Hanoi is a French-Vietnamese espresso bar and bistro specialising in French and Vietnamese cuisine and coffee. Located inside the Adelaide Casino complex the venue is decorated in a French colonial style with lots of bright and exhilarating colours. The bright and colourful hues really bring the space alive and give off a cheery atmosphere.
Had a great night, staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent and it came out fast. Beautifully presented and flavors were very very nice.
Pork, chicken wings, beef, soft crab buns and egg dishes were the dishes we ordered and enjoyed them all .
Bookings are essential , it's a busy place with a buzzing ambiance .
Enjoy it .

In celebration of France’s National Day, Madame Hanoi has created a themed night celebrating all things French. Adelaide Food Central, along with other invited guests, were treated to four courses of delicious French dishes with a Vietnamese twist. Combined with beautiful French wines and French inspired cocktails, the night was going to be an experience that we wouldn’t forget. All food and drink were provided free of charge.
Brilliant!! The flavours were unreal, the service fantastic, the wine list expertly selected and the atmosphere inviting. We were very well looked after and it was a nice, easy evening.
I had the most fantastic meal a few weekends ago at Madam Hanoi. From the first bite of those sticky crunchy chicken wings I was hooked! The flavour was incredible and I could have easily eaten the entire bowl myself (but had committed to sharing). The other highlight of the night was the incredible pork belly.. Oh and the pre dinner cocktails also hit the spot. The night we were in was busy, however even without a booking we were seated immediately and the great service continued throughout the night. I can't wait to get back there!
Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic fit out, everything was "fantastic" if not a little pricey, but still worth the money spent & will definitely be back. Perfectly cooked pork belly, awesome prawns shell, head & all.
After having quite a few afternoon bevvies with interstate friends in the Casino complex, we all decided, well enough sparkling! Time to soak it up! So, we all agreed that Madame Hanoi would be the perfect soaking accompaniment. After ordering cocktails and yes, more sparkling, we ordered quite a number of dishes off the menu. My learned foodie mates and myself found that some of the dishes were hits and some misses. Service was excellent, decor is just gorgeous. I did find, however that the dishes were a bit unbalanced in portion sizes. Duck salad had plenty of duck and was an excellent dish. However, pork and prawn dishes were quite small. The prawn dish was dry. The Kingfish dish, unfortunately lacked in flavour. The cocktails are uber yum. Prices are actually quite okay. I would return as this place has quite a nice ambience, the food we had was not exactly outstanding, but I would like to try more dishes on the menu.
Madame Hanoi at the Adelaide Casino on North Tce, Adelaide was always on our list but a place that we just never got around to visiting. Walking in you are instantly mesmerised by Emma Hack's artwork. It certainly is a wonderful first impression. The staff were very welcoming with a warm and friendly manner and you couldn't help but think that we were off to a good start to the night.

Adelaide has a couple of exotic high tea offerings, and Madame Hanoi’s is to a Vietnamese food theme – how could I resist? We were shown to our table and I was quite gobsmacked by the decor – even the coffee machine has cherry blossoms painted on it! Very stylish. The high tea included a pot of Hendrick’s gin-spiked tea, which I loved but Mum didn’t really enjoy. The tea has a strong cucumber flavour, and paired with honey it was certainly an unusual brew, true to Hendricks' brand claim. It took a while to persuade the staff to substitute coffee for the tea for Dad, something that you would expect to be standard at any high tea offering. On to the food. Savoury tier one started with the most delicious croque monsieur I’ve ever had – seriously, there was
This place was rock!!!!!!! .Waitstaff are all nice and very helpful in giving their suggestion regarding the menu. The cocktail drinks are all amazing.😍😍😍😍 i will surely come back here with my friends.
Probably some of the best and most interesting Vietnamese food I've had.
Very impressed by the pork buns and other Street food style dishes we had.
I would definitely recommend.
Really nice interior theme and decorations.

The décor throughout the dining area is a consistent mixture of refined French and busy South East Asia, which only adds to the experience. As recommended by the waitstaff I started with the bars signature cocktail, featuring yuzu and passionfruit, it was light and refreshing with a nostalgic flavour reminiscent of a splice ice block in summer. On the Chopping Board was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to try the menu.
Have been here for dinner twice now and loved it both times. Normally, being vegetarian/pescatarian, I exhaust all the menu options in one visit when it's a share plate style dinner. After the first time I knew I had to come back for round two. It makes for different experiences even for the fish and meat eaters.
You can order an array of starter, street food and/or mains or order the "feed me" banquet style menu; of which there are two options. A cheaper and a dearer version.
The French infusion is difficult to pin point at times, the Vietnamese flavours and styles being the dominant cuisine. One of my favourites is the son in law egg. If you love eggs, make sure this is one you order. A gorgeous runny yolk and crispy fried to an inch of their life (in a really deliciously amazing way!) all dressed with sweet and sour dressing and Vietnamese herbs. The softshell crab bun bao are served in brioche which is a fabulous spin! Im always interested in how restaurants use tofu in their vego dishes (apart from your classic salt and pepper tofu) and MH do theirs well in the bun. Another must to your meal is the green mango and papaya salad. If youre into the sweet, tangy dressings you won't be able to get enough of this one. The mains are probably not enough as a meal for one as I assume they are designed to be eaten as part of the banquet. They are easy to share. The salmon we ordered was cooked absolutely beautifully, served with a sweet marinade and a light Vietnamese salad. The pork is served in delicate slices, a dipping sauce on the side and vermicelli noodles to be eaten wrapped in a lettuce cup (also accompanying the dish).
Overall, dinner at Madame Hanoi is a feast of incredible Vietnamese flavours, a big array of textures and senses. You will want to keep returning!
Kinda alright. Went on a busy night & got the resulting scattered service. Probably not helped by the design of the place. So many nooks. The food was quite good. The salt & pepper tofu a little dry with a burnt flavour but really nice kingfish. Won't bother returning.
Celebrated NYE at Madame Hanoi and really enjoyed it! I previously reviewed and rated Madame Hanoi, giving it a rating of 2. It was very disappointing for a range of reasons. However, with the most recent experience, I was pleasantly surprised and glad I had a chance to come back.
From booking the event to the night itself, everything was solid. The food was a standout. Everyone around the table was in agreement. The menu was great and the dishes were absolutely delicious. Favourite being a beautiful crab dish, Cafe De Paris Cua!
Absolutely gorgeous interior! Very modern and similar style to Sean's Kitchen next door. Food is good, but I fail to see the French side of the menu... Vietnamese is definitely more prominent. A total of 3 dishes suitable for vegetarians also. We had the mango and papaya salad which was delicious and super flavoursome. We also had the salt and pepper tofu which even though we requested to be mild, was a bit on the spicier side. Lightly fried and not the usual flavours you get with salt and pepper tofu elsewhere. I tried to tofu baos which I loved! My favourite dish of the night! The lime and chilli mayonnaise was delicious and worked well inside the baos. My partner had the salmon as a main and enjoyed it thoroughly! Apparently it wasn't very spicy either compared to the other dishes and also came with a side of the salad. We also ordered a steamed rice (overpriced with just under $5 for a one person serve). We shared everything except the salmon and it was way too much for us! Ended up taking the tofu, rice and some of the salad home. Also had a cocktail each and mine was lovely (Hanoi Hanna or something similar) but my partner was really disappointed with his (can't remember the name but it had rum in it and was at the top of one of the cocktail menus). It seemed to have bits of pepper floating in it which would go up the straw, although the menu didn't specify that it had pepper in it. I tried it and it was way too overpowered by the alcohol flavour also and not tasty to drink at all. They offered to make him another one free of charge, but he declined and the bartender brought it back to him and suggested he drink it with a thicker straw... Not sure what this would have achieved given a thicker straw would have meant more pepper going up it. Given he voiced his disappointment to the waitress and drank about 1/4 of it with struggle, it would have been good customer service to not charge us for it at all and it was poor to bring back the drink he had already drank from, particularly after he had already been nice said not to worry about a replacement and that he didn't want to continue drinking the one he had and was fine with leaving it. We also asked the waitress what one of the ingredients was in the dish and she didn't know... Definitely some improvements to be made with the service and may be worth considering expanding the menu.
Noisy, vibrant and fun. We were a group of 5 and had the 'spoil me' banquet for $76. It is an excellent range of their dishes including kingfish sashimi wraps, a huge spencer gulf prawn, lovely piece of salmon, a delicious pork bun, some refreshing salads and finished off with crispy pork belly. Loads of great Vietnamese flavours with masses of lime, chilli, mint and coriander. Dessert is a selection of pastries. Wine list is not bad and we found the service pretty good. At $150/head after drinks etc. it's not cheap, but we would certainly go back.
Second visit to Madam Hanoi and really enjoyed it. Larger group which was not as easy, seating not helpful. Food however really good convinced even to have snails by waitress and they were delicious! I reckon a group of four is best....loved cocktails as well.
AMAZING! Have been to Madame Hanoi's a few times now and hands down this is my favourite restaurant in Adelaide! Great atmosphere, helpful and super friendly staff, knock out flavours. Everything we ordered was fresh, visually appealing and extremely tasty!
Friday night....busy...noisy, but not detrimentally so - that good sort of noisy that let you know people were enjoying themselves. I really liked it, all of it - the atmosphere, the staff, the service and of course the food. It was easy, relaxed...a bit messy due to the dishes we ordered but it added to the enjoyment.
Great ambience and really spacious. Perfect for group outings. Had the pork belly bao bun which flavourvise was good . The only fault could be the bao bun was cold. Also had the grilled salmon and papaya which was cooked to perfection with a great sauce to go with. Will definitely come back.
There's a lot to like about Madame Hanoi and most if it can be summed up in two words: Banh Bao. The soft little pillows of dough filled with tasty morsels. Salt and Pepper Tofu gets a shout out too, very decent.
Not a fan of the wine list - both its content (limited) and its format (confusing).
Went there for dinner last week on the busy Saturday night. But our table I had reserved a week before was awaiting us. My partner got impatient and got us our drinks and when the waitress found out it was like we had ruined her life!! We had great service and fast considering how busy it was and the food well tasty as!!
After hearing many good things about this place from early on in the year, I finally paid it an overdue visit. Madame Hanoi is a French-Vietnamese fusion bistro known for its opening by celebrity chef Nic Watt, who is no stranger to Asian fusion cuisine having worked in the past with Nobu, Taupo, and ROKA. Having visited Vietnam in January, I’d been curious about the bilateral French-Vietnamese influence, only picking up traces of it here and there throughout cuisine in the country.
My partner and I went here for a celebration dinner a few weeks ago. The service was prompt, food was delicious and atmosphere was highly enjoyable. It was slightly more expensive than I would expect to pay for Vietnamese food, however the food was delicious so I think worth it. We will be back!

What an amazing transformation! Adelaide Casino’s Loco Bar on North Terrace has now been turned into a chic bistro eatery and bar – Madame Hanoi. It’s a fantastic fit out with food to match. Touting itself as an espresso bar and bistro, it serves both traditional and modern Vietnamese dishes, a smattering of French, plus a blend of the two.
4 of us went to the hendricks high tea. I had been for lunch before. Sometimes high tea is a bit hit or miss but this experience was a huge hit. The food was fantastic, service impeccable and the tea was pretty good too. Found we didnt want to leave and the staff made us feel like it was no problem to stay. 4 new fans of madam hanoi - will definately be back.
Yum, yum, yum! The staff here were lovely but a little slow to suggest we eat at the bar when we were sitting there already. We had to ask if we could, which was fine with them. Otherwise it was going to be a 1.5 hr wait. The food was amazing and totally worth the weekend mayhem. Having just visited Vietnam we found it to have all the classic flavours with a nice twist, making it a more unique experience. Totally delish!!
I really liked the food here although the price was quite steep and servings could be bigger. Anyway, the highlight for me was the squid ink bao. Son-in-law eggs were also pretty good although I wouldn't pay that much for eggs next time.
The pork belly bao was amazing. Overall very pleasant dining experience with good service. Perfect for a work gathering or family dinner. They only take bookings for 8 people or more. Be sure to check out the huge picture on the wall at the entrance!
Beautiful place with a great menu full of traditional Vietnamese items with a few vegetarian and vegan options. The green mango salad was so tasty!
I love the modern Vietnamese cuisine, hence decided to try Madame Hanoi that somebody had recommended to me. The menu seemed a bit odd with the French dishes. My understanding is that the French influenced the Vietnamese cuisine not that people in Vietnam actually ate Croque Monsieurs; that's just a bit strange. We shared four dishes; beef wrapped in betel leaf, crispy fried baby squid, rockling and scallops. The squid and rockling were amazingly good, the other two were just good. I found the food (and wine) a bit overpriced. Service was very attentive and nice, but most of the waiters did not seem to know much about vietnamese food or the specific dishes even. Every question had them go back to the kitchen to ask.
Both me and my dining companion were initially wary of this place. We're both of Vietnamese background and have been to many great Vietnamese restaurants in Adelaide. We figured Madame Hanoi would just be a more expensive and pretentious version done by a white guy (yeah I know, that's racist of me!). After dining here, I still feel the same way - but hey, that doesn't mean the food is bad. If the price point doesn't bother you, this *is* good food with good service to match. There definitely could have been more done with this French / Vietnamese connection, but I doubt there was much desire to explore anything too challenging.
The most annoying thing about Madame Hanoi though is the awful cultural appropriation that's going on in the interior design for this place. Maybe I've used Tumblr too much and it's now infected me, but It would have been nice if they had been able to draw a distinction between Vietnamese and Chinese. Mainly it's Emma Hack's huge mural of a body painted cheongsam on the jelly jube nippled woman but it continues with the Chinese women on the back of the menus to the random Chinese artwork on the walls. About as thoughtless as the vintage light fittings that are mandatory in about every restaurant fit out these days. There's even a piece of communist propaganda on the walls which is cute! I know I know - it's just set dressing, but when you go to a place like this, you pay for the ambience as much as you do for the food. Food - good; design - eh.
Adelaide’s SkyCity Casino has been undergoing a facelift as of late, and with the new renovations comes newcomers such as Sean’s Kitchen on Station Road, and most recently, Madame Hanoi, a bar and bistro concentrating on Vietnamese cuisine with a strong French influence which resides on North Terrace.
Ok, let's be honest. We wen.... Ok, let's be honest.
We went there for our anniversary and our expectations were really high. We went on a Saturday at 8, after the gym and we were told we had to wait 1,30h. Ok, fair enough, we were so hungry that we went to have a shared wokinabox to stop momentarily the pinching hunger. At 9,30 we sat down at Madame Hanoi and we ordered two 'let us feed you'. The food was great, well presented and beautifully seasoned and cooked. Magic atmosphere. Service impeccable. But if I hadn't had the take away to start with I had been still hungry!! Portions are ridiculous, so not worth the prize. Wine list is overpriced as well (and we were not looking too much at saving money in that particular occasion). There are so many more places where you can get the same food at a more reasonable price and quantity. Perfect if you are looking for a special dinner to see people and be seen.

Had a quick lunch before the footy. It was yummy. Soft shell crab in a squid ink roll.
No reservations accepted! And rightly so - there is constant flow of people and it would slowed down if tables "waited" empty!
Noisy? Yes, but what is offered as food "dampens" the noise. Amongst the best Vietnamese food we have had, including in Vietnam. The pork belly is a dream and is served to be eaten the authentic way. The fried squid was delicate and deliciously spiced! The mango salad was the real thing and the scallops with lime were delicacy!
Highly recommended and we are returning tomorrow night. Pity that we have to leave Adelaide so soon as the place deserves many more visits!
Loud. Loved the food, deep fried duck egg, mango salad, beef in buns, delicious chicken and mouth watering roast banana ice cream with chocolate & toffee but what turned me off going there again was the noise! The music too loud, the voices all raised to get over the music ended our night of what could have been dining bliss but became stressful and a complete let down. I would rather eat in a less awe inspiringly decorated place which serves good Vietnamese dishes than grope my way through the mind numbing blitz of over loud 'war time' hits from m the 60's & 70's whilst trying to converse with my dinner partners all of whom were paying top price for food and wine!
I have had two experiences at Madame Hanoi. The first was an unplanned and very quick drop in for a Vietnamese coffee. We were met with overly friendly, enthusiastic staff, which was nice but a little overwhelming. The coffee itself was authentic and delicious. Again, the service was efficient and sickly sweet. The second experience was for a dinner. Service was still friendly, but much more relaxed to begin with. We ordered a varied selection off the menu, my favourite was the rock ling, a really well constructed dish and great flavours. Unfortunately the service was a bit hit and miss during dinner, we were constantly being asked how everything was going and someone was always shadowing the table- the staff need to work on a happy medium! Over all I liked it, but there are Vietnamese restaurants I would chose to go to again before Madame Hanoi.
Good service good food. I don't know a lot about French Vietnam cuisine food like a few of the other comments but, both my wife and I enjoyed the great service and even more we enjoyed the food. Fantastic flavours. Would recommend and hope the people of Adelaide give this place a go.
Loved Madame's buns. We dropped in for dinner to @madamhanoi on Tuesday last week and had a really enjoyable night. Our initial drinks took a little while to arrive but overall the timing throughout was perfect for us and not at all rushed which my companion had experienced before on a Saturday evening. We ordered as we went along rather than all at once which often means everything arrives together and it worked out perfectly. The wine list is a bit confusing and I am not a fan of laying it out by weight, raciness, firmness or vibrancy - i guess I am a bit of a traditionalist that area.
Menu standouts for us were the goi vit, a cripsy confit duck and watermelon salad and the bahn bao nhan thit bo, 3 buns with braised beef, chilli and hanoi pickles well priced at just $14.60. My only gripe was that the share plates should have been replaced after the duck dish because we had to look at them for the next 2 courses. We had several waiters/ food runners throughout the night but our favourite was the young Vietnamese girl who gave us excellent menu advice and who later asked, in an enquiring way, if the wine went well with what we had ordered. She had a genuine interest in learning more about the wine rather than the usual is everything ok. She was a gem and so friendly - definitely a gold star from us. I also engaged with the charming French barman who urged me to come back and try the perfect croque madame for lunch - I most certainly will. The place is still very new and settling down but I adore the venue and this very clever makeover of the old ticketing area of the railway station, it compliments perfectly what is happening around that precinct and just up the road in the CBD.
Great decor, ok food. Decor is amazing and good vibe however the food is much better at a cheap and cheerful vietnamese. Not enough herbs or chilli in dishes. Whiting slider was pretty much bread. Staff advised they would bring out the food for the three of us in a relaxed fashion but then it all arrived within five minutes of ordering and we struggled to fit it on the table.
Would return for the decor but not food.
The food was tasty and well priced. The waitress service was good. BUT the food getting to the table was the trouble, the waitress said the best way to experience the food was to share and order many dishes (so we did) and she said it would all come out together and pick at it all. Well that was not what happened at all. The fist bit came out (green mango salad, which was delish) then 15 mins later next bit, another 10 mins later and another and so on for a lengthy time. This wasn't good enough. We where there for 2 hours and had to leave and tell them to stop cooking the food. It was terrible food to table process but the food that did come was well balanced and tasty.
Really nice food and very attentive service.
Is OK, and settling in.. Love this venue for the theming and decor. Interesting coffee featuring Vietnamese styles as well, nice change to the regularly ordered coffees. The venue is great with seating for coffees, and dining, and big bar areas.
The food looks good, and reflects Vietnam flavours. Flavour generally hits the mark, and our large table seemed to order almost everything so got a good look at most things.
Feedback for reflection, it isn't cheap for what you get. The mini banh mi rolls need to be lighter and crunchy (could have been a bad bread batch). Would have liked the crispy pork belly to have been rendered more, and the pork served warm in the roll. The crab slider (tiny) served in a black bread bun was very sceney and I was told tasty. The squid tasty, though a tad chewy, and those who had the Croque Monsieur enjoyed it. The betel leaf dish is not as Adelaide people know it from other venues, the leaf is cooked and wilted in the meat dish with noodles, see the pic, the diner enjoyed it.
Treat yourself to the authentic condensed milk coffee. A couple of years ago we went to Hanoi to check out one of the worlds best kept secrets...the dozen or so surviving French restaurants from the colonial days. They are sensational. This little reminder does them justice and brought memories flooding back..not exactly French..not exactly Vietnamese..a hint of the exotic. Really helpful, friendly staff, good food, impressive decor and really good coffee... old school Vietnamese or espresso . We've been twice and will be back.
Love the décor. A great new place with lots of ambiance. The decor is absolutely beautiful. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. I thought the food was expensive but what we ordered was delicious. The cocktails contained an overly large amount of ice which watered down the taste of the drinks - we could have been drinking flavoured water. Definitely will be going back again to try different selections.Well done to the designers and decorators - you have created something truly lovely!
I enjoyed a lovely lunch here. I found the menu a little disjointed with the French element, which was only croque monseurs, which is a bit odd. I haven't been to Vietnam myself, however I haven't heard anyone they do a mean croque monseur there?? The wine list was divided by types of grapes or sweet, dry, crisp which was very confusing. Several items on the menu were unavailable which I found disappointing for their first day of trading. Food I did have was lovely and had great flavours. The duck salad and crispy pork belly lettuce cups were standouts. For two ladies, a glass of wine each the bill was $120. Ouch. Quite overpriced 'streetfood' given the portion sizes I thought. Street food often attracts street food similar prices, however not at Madane Hanoi.im looking forward to returning and trying some of the items that were unavailable. The service was excellent, lovely attentive staff.
Ambience was nice, serving sizes were decent. The fusion flavours were interesting. Service was good. Enjoyed the coffee mousse and creme brulee. Crispy pork was juicy and crispy.
Very good location and beautiful inside.
The food was very good and presented very well, it's a bit overpriced to my opinion.
The desserts ok but not special to me.
I liked it but i am not sure if I would go back.
Great food and drinks, amazing atmosphere and friendly.staff. I had a fantastic night with my friends from NSW/QLD/VIC and we all loved the flavours. So well done.
The Vietnamese G&T is a must and we had the “spoil us” package where they literally make it up for you with the best dishes
Booked here @ 5:30pm before a show, got given an average table and asked to be moved (place was empty) but it couldn't be accommodated.
Food was very yum, but a little expensive. For 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 drinks each was $200 and the portions are not that big.
However the food was fresh and tasty. Overall 80% - room for improvement.
This place was worth flying to Adelaide for. Every dish was delicious. The service excellent too.
Madame Hanoi's chilli fest is on again until May14th. Various levels of chilli are on offer with some dishes that will make you want to do the Tango whilst playing the violin! To cool down try Madame's Martini with coriander gin and as of today they have launched their very own gin made by the fabulous Blend Etiquette.
Delicious food and attentive service. We ordered the Let us feed you Seafood option and loved it. As is typical with this option, at first you're worried it won't be enough, but in the end we were stuffed! Great flavours. Really enjoyed the chili prawns and chocolate mousse dessert.
