Review Madame Hanoi - Adelaide

Aaron Ong (Pongy)
Ambience was nice, serving sizes were decent. The fusion flavours were interesting. Service was good. Enjoyed the coffee mousse and creme brulee. Crispy pork was juicy and crispy.

Very good location and beautiful inside. The food was very good and presented very well, it's a bit overpriced to my opinion. The desserts ok but not special to me. I liked it but i am not sure if I would go back.

Great food and drinks, amazing atmosphere and friendly.staff. I had a fantastic night with my friends from NSW/QLD/VIC and we all loved the flavours. So well done. The Vietnamese G&T is a must and we had the “spoil us” package where they literally make it up for you with the best dishes

If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese food, this is not the place. Chicken curry with rice was ok. But that beef noodle was a bit disappointing, too much rice noodle not enough of soup. But if you are looking for good atmosphere for a drink with friends, that’s fine.

Booked here @ 5:30pm before a show, got given an average table and asked to be moved (place was empty) but it couldn't be accommodated. Food was very yum, but a little expensive. For 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 drinks each was $200 and the portions are not that big. However the food was fresh and tasty. Overall 80% - room for improvement.

This place was worth flying to Adelaide for. Every dish was delicious. The service excellent too.

Madame Hanoi's chilli fest is on again until May14th. Various levels of chilli are on offer with some dishes that will make you want to do the Tango whilst playing the violin! To cool down try Madame's Martini with coriander gin and as of today they have launched their very own gin made by the fabulous Blend Etiquette.

Delicious food and attentive service. We ordered the Let us feed you Seafood option and loved it. As is typical with this option, at first you're worried it won't be enough, but in the end we were stuffed! Great flavours. Really enjoyed the chili prawns and chocolate mousse dessert.

We had high expectations of our first visit to Madame Hanoi award winner 2017 Our expectations were soon dashed.A party of four we ordered salad rice and 3 mains the salad arrived sometime later the pork both delicious. Then we waited and waited, no staff came near us, either to check if the meal was satisfactory or to remove the finished plates nor to bring the other two mains. Eventually we inquired where the rest of the meal was the waitress had not ordered it, With no real apology but another long wait we eventually received the two other mains, by which time rice was inedible. We were not offered more rice or a dessert menu As no apology was forthcoming, we asked for a discount for the inconvenience and ruined meal. The reply, after muttering to another waitress was all we can do is not charge you for the chicken skewers. Their customer service and poorly trained staff, ruined what could have been a great meal

Muc sua chien gion or crispy fried baby squid, smoked chilli and my all time fave smell in the world, kaffir lime. I was kept amused by this dish, I would even call it a fun dish. It seems kind of strange calling it fun. I just could not get enough of the initial crunch, then the teeth gliding through butter sensation. I had inner childish squeals of delight and did all I could to stifle bouncing up and down on my seat. Not even noticing the rise in temperature until it was too late. The flavours were oh so subtle, as they should be when paired with squid. Onlyifitsgood

We had our work EOFY function at Madam Hanoi tonight. I cannot rate highly enough the quality of food and service we received. We were thoroughly looked after from the moment we walked in, nothing was too much of an ask, even with all of our perculiar dietary requirements. Huge thanks to Josh (I think?!) For taking such good care of us! A stunning venue, great facilities (that handcream in the toilets omg) & I cannot begin to describe how good the food is. I was lucky enough to get this fried egg dish as a vegetarian special - this was the BEST dish and deserves a place on the permenant menu! Thank you so much for a perfect function; we will be back.

Was a lovely meeting place for 4 girls to catch up..lovely light meal..great expresso martinis ..staff were lovely and friendly..not a loud noisy place so great for chats....

Wow wow wow - try the salmon from their specials on the menu - what a fantastic dish. And the Salad with it is even more to die for. I want more

It was a Saturday night and we just got in for drinks. A very friendly and well mannered barman made us the best Pisco Sour in Adelaide. Thanks Johan for your caring and great service :) I strongly recommend this place especially Johan who certainly knows how to make the best drinks in town

Great experience, came in for a quick dinner before the theatre and was seated very quickly, the customer service was amazing, we ordered a selection of small menu items to share and everything was delicious, I especially enjoyed the soft shell crab bun, would definitely recommend and will be back.

Our First time to the restaurant Our food was delish praise for the chef.the service was good but thought it would have been better for a award winning place. We walked though the restaurant before we were seated. But all in all we will be back because the food was so good. 8/10

Two nights in a row, it's that good! Highly recommend the tuna. But everything we ate was full of flavor and delicious.
Shelley Cosford
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and lovely staff would highly recommend it if you want a taste of Vietnamese food.

I just love this restaurant the food is always great but the chicken wings are superb don't miss ordering those! The service was excellent very friendly informative waitress! Highly recommend!

First time at Madame Hanoi. Couldn't fault the food. Presented well and full of flavor. Beautiful surroundings. Service was excellent. Sat afternoon for lunch.
Maura Pottrell
Staff were good and attentive. Squid was good but I didn't enjoy the pork belly broth it had a strange taste. I appreciate that this was probably a personal thing. Supposed to have prawns which it did but only two I would class as cocktail prawns. Thought wine list was overpriced. All in all disappointing and probably won't be back given loads of better restaurants around

Dined this evening with family for daughter's birthday celebration. Decided to have the "Feed Us" menu which was a very good choice. Food was excellent and plenty of it. Very enjoyable food experience. Good service and special thanks to our waitress Karolinka who looked after us.
Scott Thomson
Amazing food with great service, would recommend to anyone wanting a good meal

I thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful lunch catch-up at your wonderful restaurant with a dear friend yesterday. I loved the ambience but then again I love the history of the building, having been born into an SA railway family. The food was divine, the moscato I had was delicious and the staff were brilliantly attentive & polite. I finally got to see the fantastic wall art. Thank you to the staff at Madame Hanoi!

We experienced the Hendricks High Tea here. The savouries were quite nice (especially the chicken bao), but overall a little disappointing for an experience.<br/><br/>This was $45pp (plus a 10% surcharge, why it’s just not built into the price I’ll never know) and we had to have a long discussion about an alternative to gin for non-alcoholic drinkers (surely water is cheaper than gin!). Based on this experience the value was just not there. We’ve done many high teas in our time and this one unfortunately just didn’t live up to expectations, price, food, service and location.<br/><br/>Pictured is the 1 stand which has:<br/><br/>1. Braised Beef Slider<br/>2. Chicken Bao<br/>3. Fresh Tuna<br/>4. Crispy Prawn<br/>5. Macaron<br/>6. Mini Cone<br/>7. Coconut Panacotta

Wow and I mean wow!!! The food here just caught me by surprise... I went to this place for the first time during the chilli festival and tried both their special menu and normal menu dishes.... None and I mean none of the dishes disappointed me... Everything was flavourful and delicious... I would have rated five stars except the portion size is small and it is pricey!
Kirstin Lucas
I ordered the goi xoai du du (green mango and papaya salad) and the suon cuu chua ngot (sticky lamb ribs) - perfect combo. The salad was light and fresh while the ribs were sticky yet tender... unfortunately both dishes were quite large so i didn't have room for pudding - the people sitting next to me said the banana cigars were gorgeous. I found room for the lumineux cocktail which was nice but not stunning.
Fit & Fed Foodie
The place is lovely. It gets loud and hard to get service when it’s busy, but what really lets this place down is how oily and salty the food was. Wasn’t enjoyable, didn’t feel like authentic cuisine.
Jacinta Pennacchia
Amazing! Truly. The sticky lamb ribs were phenomenal and the flavours complemented each other perfectly. Great cocktails. Great service. Great vibe. I don't usually write reviews but this place really stands out.
Tash Bee
For someone who considers themselves a "foodie", I am not particularly adventurous in what I eat. I was brought here for a reunion dinner and was absolutely blown away. I ate things that I never pictured myself eating (like whole soft shell crab). Everything here is cooked perfectly with so much flavour and love. Beautiful decor and incredibly kind waitresses. The drink menu is fantastic with local craft beers on top and great cocktails. I haven't stopped talking about this place since I left and I can't wait to go back
Ian Cross
Wow. There can be no other comment. Brilliant food. The scallops, squid and tuna were incredible. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. We’re from Melbourne and we will definitely be back. The lamb was rich and delicious. Thank you.
Jeremy Jones
Worst meal I've had in a restaurant in a long time.  Got 8 mouthfuls of food in two and half hours in a banquet.  Two of our group left to "go and get dinner somewhere".  Drinks service non-existent, had to request a waiter to come and take a drinks order every time.  Slow, not enough food soon enough, poor value for money.
Mashedpotato
Fantastic food. We ordered the pork bao which had a generous serve of pork with the perfect balance of crunch and soft meat. The soft shell crab bao has less flavour and was on the dry side. The lamb ribs were amazing. The sweet and sticky was perfect. Service was good, food was delivered fast. I do no love chilli and having it served on the side was no issue. Madam Hanoi is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants Adelaide
Global Gastronomista
10/10. Been here several times, have had items of the a la carte menu and tried several of the banquet menus. Never disappointing. Staff are great, approachable and very helpful. The delivery of French Vietnamese fusion is great. The atmosphere is amazing and the repurposing of such a grand old building is fitting. The food is fresh and flavour-filled. Well worth a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Only If Its Good
Goi vit or crispy confit duck, watermelon, hoisin and my second most fave smell in the world, Vietnamese mint. Now this one caught my eye almost immediately. I knew it was going to be to......die......for! Yep and we did, we died. Right there, in the restaurant. Dead! You know what? I'm not going to describe it. Go in and try it. You're welcome.<br/>Want to read the rest?  Head over to my blog.  Website below.

My partner and I came here on a recommendation for the concierge at our hotel room (we were on holidays).<br/>Took a seat and looked around at the bustling place and happy faces everywhere. Beautiful staff and very polite.<br/>We ordered a few bits and pieces and loved what we got. Nice, light, fresh and delicious. Every more so, the cocktails were great to!<br/>Great evening out for dinner! Thanks

Once again another great meal, can't fault it table was a decent size for the 4 of us, drinks taken promptly and were happy to make me a dirty martini which was delicious. Servings were generous we loved the wings and the pork, prawn and noodle soup. The big man was freaked by the spider bun but I thought it was great. The ribs were kick ass. Everyone was stuffed and it was way cheaper than we imagined. I was very happy.

We came here for high tea for my baby shower, had a table of 13 people.  The service was overall not bad but a couple of annoying things happened.  First after completing about 3 booking confirmations and dietary requirements they still missed one of the gluten free, i think the confusion came because she was also pregnant however the waiter questioned that we'd actually told him she was gluten free (only about 5 times mate).  The food was good, quite tasty my biggest gripe was the tea was served tepid at best luke warm. In hindsight I should have spoken up immediately but no one came back to check if it was ok and I became distracted with conversation and also wasn't sure if it were actually meant to be hot (it wasn't great at the temperature it was served).  After about 15 minutes when I mentioned it to the waiter he argued that 15 minutes had passed and that of course it was only warm now.  At that stage it was pretty much cold and I told him it had been served only luke warm.  He got defensive and I said I was merely asking how it was meant to be served, he then said because it was served with a slice of orange and cucumber it wasn't meant to be hot.  Sorry but for a place that is serving high TEA and charging $10 per serve of that tea I would have thought it should have been made with water from a boiled kettle! At least a little steam up the side of the cup would have been nice.  A simple offer of an apology and perhaps one pot of tea served at a temperature to consider it tea would have been nice but we heard nil further on this issue.  I was grateful however that they did not change me for one extra serving for someone who'd had to cancel last minute due to sickness, despite being warned repeatedly that this would happen (a policy I cannot stand, simply don't cook the food!).  Luckily I had given them 2 hours notice of this cancellation otherwise Im sure I would have been charged.  I was also very appreciative that they did not kick us out after our allocated time of 2 hours, which I could not understand as dinner service surely doesn't start until 6pm and the place was not full.  We were able to have a very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon.  Ambience and decor was great and the place offers an edgy alternative to the traditional high teas which are definitely not my "cup of tea" ;)  Overall I had a great day, thank you for the good points just a couple of things could have been improved.

An overall enjoyable experience. The decor of this place is modern and situated near the Adelaide Casino. The serving size was generous and the Vietnamese style chicken curry had a lovely aroma of spices! The staff were friendly and accommodating throughout the night.  Recommend this place for an enjoyable night out!

make a booking to eat here for dinner. was seated near the door was the windy and cold. the tall stools with backs are uncomfortable. why not just have normal table and chairs?<br/><br/>initially, they forgot about us. no drinks or menu or anything for the first 15min. once they realised they apologised and service for the rest fo the night was attentive. <br/><br/>i cant remember everything we ordered as we did several entrees. the chicken curry was ok, a little bland. the crispy pork belly was excellent. the kingfish was boring. the softshell crab was ok<br/><br/>the high price didnt match my food expectations. if they have takeaway, i might get the crispy pork belly again.
Karylle
Having eaten both in the restaurant side and bar side (more limited menu), I haven't tried one item that I didn't like. But my absolute favourite that always keeps me coming back is the chicken wings!! Its crunchy and sweet. Another must is the pork belly baos! I am just a massive fan of the flavours here! A cool spot to go for after-work drinks and nibblies.
Molly_Y
Friendly staffs and good duck salad, the tofu bao was okay but great thanks for letting me only ordered one (it was 3 pieces on the menu and i was sure I won't finish it by myself) <br/><br/>Went there alone and had a lovely time <br/><br/>Will be back with friends and try more dishes!

Madam Hanoi does lovely food, and the wait time here is great. <br/><br/>Service can be pretty awful depending on who you get. It always has been that way for the months I’ve been coming here. I work very close by so I come here just about every week. Even just a simple coffee order, they’re often not polite or friendly. But again it depends on who you get. <br/><br/>In terms of the menu, I’ve tried a number of things such as the squid bites, tofu buns, chicken wings, san chow bow. All spicy but delicious. Their macaroons, coffee and hot chocolate are wonderful.<br/><br/>Overall a place that serves high quality items but if anything needs improving, it’s the service.

I went for food and a coffee in the late afternoon, enjoyed the soft shell crab and tofu coriander bun. Service was good. I liked the sitting booths in the bar area which were comfortable and allowed privacy to do some work without disturbance. Being located in the casino complex it allowed exploration of the casino as well. Would highly recommend it.

Came here for Sunday lunch. There seems to be a steady stream of customers but didn't feel as though I needed a reservation.<br/>Order a SA lager and the seared kangaroo salad. The food came out relatively quickly. There was a very good portion of salad to protein to rice noodles. I thought the accompanying sauce was a tad to sour and salty. A nice modern twist to Vietnamese combination rice noodle salad but unfortunately missed the sweet-salty-sour combination.<br/>Service was friendly and efficient.<br/>Will probably be back to see what else they have on the menu.
Daniel Mackintosh
The food was okay but the staff were average. Overall there are better places to eat out in Adelaide, don't be sucked into the location. Please visit Peel St or something similar for a good night out!

I came here with a friend, and we ordered all 4 flavours of the baos, and absolutely loved it! The baos were very fluffy and soft, as for the beef one, the beef was very tender, and despite the chilli, it wasn't too spicy. The soft shell crab was also really tasty, the crab flavour wasn't too strong (which I like), so keep that in mind; it complimented the chilli mayonnaise perfectly! My favourites were probably the pork belly, which was also very tender, however the skin wasn't crispy, but I personally liked it like that (despite usually loving the crispy skin). The salad made it very refreshing, so that the pork belly wouldn't taste too fatty or heavy. The tofu one was just as good, complimenting the chilli mayonnaise; it was very light with a kick! <br/><br/>In terms of the food, I definitely recommend coming here, however, the service was pretty slow, despite the restaurant not being busy; the food took around 30+ minutes to come out :(

Madame Hanoi has just launched a new lunch on the run takeaway menu and I was lucky enough to be one of 100 people that scored a free banh mi thit (pork banh mi). The roll had that good balance of crunchy outside and soft inside and was loaded with flavoursome fillings. Slightly more upmarket than your average banh mi with the addition of pate. Most importantly there was pork meat and crackling in every bite. The takeway menu had other delicious options including a banh mi with fried eggs, croque monsieur and nicoise salad.

We had a very enjoyable and delicious dinner at Madame Hanoi. It was a very hot day so were looking something light. We decided on sharing Heo quay cuon rau, goi vit and so diep nuong. The scallops were sensational! Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, very good service and lovely atmosphere.
Aaron
Always love going here for an interesting meal with great flavors. Service is sometimes a little too fast which rushes the experience. The artwork etc looks great too.
Andrew Rottinger
Wonderful ambiance. Tall ceilings, piano playing and staff that understand the menu. Food was great especially the pork Ban. Not expensive either
Lesley
Luckily there is a staff member to explain the menu for first timers as the dishes are unusual and it is good to know the protocol regarding which order to eat.<br/>The venue is relaxed, not noisy and they offer the best mocktail I have ever had, a Polka and I went back several times during our stay just to enjoy the drink.
MrJan
I was after a quick bite and ended up at Madame Hanoi. I had the salt and Pepper tofu - good but a little to salty for me. The Tofu bun sliders where good, a fair size of a potion. I could jot finish all 3 of them.
Foodfan
Poor service, poor quality, poor sizes , this place tends to receive a lot of good reviews not exactly sure why after our experience today. These would have to be some of the smallest serves I have seen & poor quality for the price paid.
Mummythefoodielover
I went here last night with my mum and tried a few items on the menu. Everything we ate was beautiful! The crab rolls were to die for. The green mango, carrot and peanut salad was magical-in fact I'm planning to attempt to recreate it at home for dinner this week. Prawns were fresh and salt and pepper squid was well coated. Staff were friendly and the place had a nice atmosphere. Side note the food was very spicy..I enjoyed the spice but some may find it too much so my tip let the chefs know if you want less chilli. Great place to go and try!
Can't Be Bothered To Cook
Food is great - interesting Asian fusion ... though a tad pricey <br/>Service is dire <br/>Casino must be coining it in with gamblers as any other restaurant of this quality would have sorted out the slow and careless service ages ago.
Hollywoodmick
Great tasty Asian fusion style food very similar to Melbourne Asian fusion style places<br/><br/>Nice n tasty and spicy food great chicken wings and pork belly<br/><br/>Watermelon and duck salad nice as well as Saigon prawns great wine and drink list

Delicious food and good service. To drink I had the Saigon Storm, delicious combination and went down so easily I could have had 10. The chai about gave it a good twist. To eat we had the eggplant, sweet potato, greens, green mango salad and salt and pepper tofu. The tofu was amazing and the eggplant was smoky and melted I your mouth. Recommend and will return.
On The Chopping Board
On The Chopping Board (OTCB) was invited to the launch of Madame Hanoi's Hendrick's High Tea. All food and beverages were provided on behalf of Madame Hanoi, a restaurant within the Adelaide Casino. We have been lucky to visit Madame Hanoi on a number of occasions, recently for a Bastille Day celebration and earlier in the year for their first birthday celebrations and a menu tasting (review here). Today we are here to try a French-Vietnamese high tea menu matched with a special pot of hot Hendrick's Gin Tea. I (Amanda) am a frequent high tea goer (see previous high tea reviews at Sean's Kitchen and the Mayflower) and was eager to see what Madame Hanoi had in store.
Tempting Palates
If you're regular readers of Tempting Palates you would know we have grown to have an affection for gin. So when we were invited to the Madame Hanoi Hendricks Gin High Tea, do you think we were excited? Yes! Of course we were! Madame Hanoi are now serving a different and exciting High Tea for High Tea lovers and we can say we had a lot of fun.
S
This place is a little too overhyped. I don't see the French Vietnamese fusion. The food is overpriced, tiny and unsatisfying that my friend and I had to go and get a second dinner. The decor and setting is different and well designed but honestly... if you want a nice meal, don't bother.
Ling Tan
On a cold, wet night Madame Hanoi put a beacon out inviting us to the re-launch of their Madame’s Hendricks High Tea. I am a sucker for food on tiers! What can I say, I’m English after all. A prominent bath tub covered in flowers was on display upon entry to signify this was a gin event. Thank the knights of Arthur that we have moved passed making booze from a tub!

The GF and I went here a few weeks ago for her birthday, it was my third time at Madame Hanoi and we knew what to expect from the food. This is a place that can be very busy at certain times however I have found that its popularity is declining. We were with 2 other guests so we all agreed to embrace the sharing style menu and opted for the long course. The King fish and scollops were highlights of the first round of food with each being beautifully cooked or prepared and a perfect mix of seafood, spice and acid.  The soft shell crab was nice as it always is but is getting a little last year for me given that almost every menu around town offers it. The salmon was cooked to perfection and was coated in a sweet and salty paste that worked perfectly with the unctuous and flakey salmon. The highlight for me is always the grilled whole prawn that have perfectly cooked flesh with a crispy shell that you should eat at least once <br/>To finish and hidden from the menu was two fruity and creamy desserts served in jars. Overall the food is lovely and the decor very nice with a high ceiling and nicely outfitted. Why the 3 score you may ask, the wait staff (on this occasion) were a little rough, pushing other dishes around the table when the next course is ready, we found ourselves pouring our own wine all night and when they did pour the wine it got dripped on the table. Each meal while the hero of the dish was perfect, it all came with the same, ginger, carrot and papaya salad. By the end of the night I found my voice starting to go as it was so loud and hard to talk to each other over the room noise. All up with wine, for 4 we would have spent $600 which is in the higher end of the dinning experience for me and i just couldn't see the value for money. Madame Hanoi is the right place for the right occasion, a boozey party with a big group, perfect!!
Kryssyann
I really enjoyed dining here. The place is a lot bigger than I expected and expands over three levels. Food is unique and tasty and I was impressed that our waitress acknowledged my pregnancy and advised me of the dishes that would be safe for me to eat. Make sure you book here, it does get busy!
Anna Lam
Admittedly, I only came to try this place because it was promoted on the entertainment book site. Food was quite unique with a bit of a French Vietnamese fusion style. The buns I think are the main attraction of the menu and a must try if coming for the first time. Interior was beautiful and gives off a very 5 star feel to the whole place.
Miss L
Madame Hanoi is a French-Vietnamese espresso bar and bistro specialising in French and Vietnamese cuisine and coffee. Located inside the Adelaide Casino complex the venue is decorated in a French colonial style with lots of bright and exhilarating colours. The bright and colourful hues really bring the space alive and give off a cheery atmosphere.

Had a great night, staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent and it came out fast. Beautifully presented and flavors were very very nice. <br/>Pork, chicken wings, beef, soft crab buns and egg dishes were the dishes we ordered and enjoyed them all .<br/>Bookings are essential , it's a busy place with a buzzing ambiance .<br/>Enjoy it . <br/>🐈🐈🐈
Adelaidefoodcentral
In celebration of France’s National Day, Madame Hanoi has created a themed night celebrating all things French. Adelaide Food Central, along with other invited guests, were treated to four courses of delicious French dishes with a Vietnamese twist. Combined with beautiful French wines and French inspired cocktails, the night was going to be an experience that we wouldn’t forget. All food and drink were provided free of charge.
Ali
Brilliant!! The flavours were unreal, the service fantastic, the wine list expertly selected and the atmosphere inviting. We were very well looked after and it was a nice, easy evening.
Food Is Loved
I had the most fantastic meal a few weekends ago at Madam Hanoi. From the first bite of those sticky crunchy chicken wings I was hooked! The flavour was incredible and I could have easily eaten the entire bowl myself (but had committed to sharing). The other highlight of the night was the incredible pork belly.. Oh and the pre dinner cocktails also hit the spot. The night we were in was busy, however even without a booking we were seated immediately and the great service continued throughout the night. I can't wait to get back there!
Sergio Eliseo
Fantastic food, fantastic service, fantastic fit out, everything was "fantastic" if not a little pricey, but still worth the money spent & will definitely be back. Perfectly cooked pork belly, awesome prawns shell, head & all.
Chuan
Terrible experience. Never again. Lady in charge of reservation was rude and disrespectful. Happy to wait in line for good food but not when it ruins our night.
Uberfrauline
After having quite a few afternoon bevvies with interstate friends in the Casino complex, we all decided, well enough sparkling! Time to soak it up! So, we all agreed that Madame Hanoi would be the perfect soaking accompaniment. After ordering cocktails and yes, more sparkling, we ordered quite a number of dishes off the menu. My learned foodie mates and myself found that some of the dishes were hits and some misses. Service was excellent, decor is just gorgeous. I did find, however that the dishes were a bit unbalanced in portion sizes. Duck salad had plenty of duck and was an excellent dish. However, pork and prawn dishes were quite small. The prawn dish was dry. The Kingfish dish, unfortunately lacked in flavour. The cocktails are uber yum. Prices are actually quite okay. I would return as this place has quite a nice ambience, the food we had was not exactly outstanding, but I would like to try more dishes on the menu.
Dejan Glavonjic
Our group had a wide variety of dishes we all shared. The highlight - braised beef in those wonderfully soft steamed buns. Everything else however felt like Vietnamese food watered down in flavour to suit westerners. Service can't be faulted in any way nor can the decor/atmosphere of the restaurant. I just wish the kitchen wasn't so afraid to take a few risks. Sure some people won't like the taste of fish sauce or chillies, but I say better to disappoint a few people than underwhelm the masses.
Alexis
Was pretty excited to try this place for a friends birthday dinner, but we all came out feeling a bit underwhelmed by the service and the food. <br/><br/>We ordered the 'feed me' menu as we were a group of six and weren't sure what to order, and whilst there were a few standout dishes (the steak, the soft shell crab buns and the chicken wings), we didn't find the green mango salad or the pork belly baos to be that flavorful. Despite it being a pretty quiet Sunday it took us a few tries to get some water for the table and a second bottle of wine from the staff that were having a chat at the counter. <br/><br/>The experience wasn't completely sour though, the espresso martini I had was great and we've all agreed we're going to come back on a weekend to try the high tea menu which looks pretty unusual
Sassenach
I really wanted to love this place but it really left us underwhelmed, and actually a little annoyed. It has a beautiful fitout, plenty of staff who were efficient if a little brusque. But we just felt the food was a let down. $16 for 1 king prawn (and we ordered 2) that was dry and tasteless. Salt and pepper squid were also dry and bland. Buns ok but just not "wow". I much prefer the various herb and spice blends of Vietnamese food, rather than just being walloped with chilli. Small wine list, completely local which is nice. Great fitout.
Kym Le
A let down. As a Vietnamese person I can definitely say these menu items were not even remotely - even a little bit Vietnamese. The mural isn't even of a Vietnamese woman, that dress is of Chinese origin and I'm kind of offended. There are so many better places with authentic, fresh and not hideously overpriced Vietnamese food. And I actually leave these places feeling full rather than annoyed with the service as we had to wave over waiters to order drinks and food - really inattentive. As prices go up, and food portions get smaller, the true gems are ones with great food, service and massive portion sizes for a reasonable price. I won't be straying from the Vietnam Village Restaurant again for my Vietnamese salads.
Tempting Palates
Madame Hanoi at the Adelaide Casino on North Tce, Adelaide was always on our list but a place that we just never got around to visiting. Walking in you are instantly mesmerised by Emma Hack's artwork. It certainly is a wonderful first impression. The staff were very welcoming with a warm and friendly manner and you couldn't help but think that we were off to a good start to the night.
Adventures In Winterland
Adelaide has a couple of exotic high tea offerings, and Madame Hanoi’s is to a Vietnamese food theme – how could I resist? We were shown to our table and I was quite gobsmacked by the decor – even the coffee machine has cherry blossoms painted on it! Very stylish. The high tea included a pot of Hendrick’s gin-spiked tea, which I loved but Mum didn’t really enjoy. The tea has a strong cucumber flavour, and paired with honey it was certainly an unusual brew, true to Hendricks' brand claim. It took a while to persuade the staff to substitute coffee for the tea for Dad, something that you would expect to be standard at any high tea offering. On to the food. Savoury tier one started with the most delicious croque monsieur I’ve ever had – seriously, there was

This place was rock!!!!!!! .Waitstaff are all nice and very helpful in giving their suggestion regarding the menu. The cocktail drinks are all amazing.😍😍😍😍 i will surely come back here with my friends.

Probably some of the best and most interesting Vietnamese food I've had.<br/><br/>Very impressed by the pork buns and other Street food style dishes we had.<br/><br/>I would definitely recommend.<br/><br/>Really nice interior theme and decorations.

The décor throughout the dining area is a consistent mixture of refined French and busy South East Asia, which only adds to the experience. As recommended by the waitstaff I started with the bars signature cocktail, featuring yuzu and passionfruit, it was light and refreshing with a nostalgic flavour reminiscent of a splice ice block in summer. On the Chopping Board was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to try the menu.

Have been here for dinner twice now and loved it both times. Normally, being vegetarian/pescatarian, I exhaust all the menu options in one visit when it's a share plate style dinner. After the first time I knew I had to come back for round two. It makes for different experiences even for the fish and meat eaters.<br/><br/>You can order an array of starter, street food and/or mains or order the "feed me" banquet style menu; of which there are two options. A cheaper and a dearer version. <br/><br/>The French infusion is difficult to pin point at times, the Vietnamese flavours and styles being the dominant cuisine. One of my favourites is the son in law egg. If you love eggs, make sure this is one you order. A gorgeous runny yolk and crispy fried to an inch of their life (in a really deliciously amazing way!) all dressed with sweet and sour dressing and Vietnamese herbs. The softshell crab bun bao are served in brioche which is a fabulous spin! Im always interested in how restaurants use tofu in their vego dishes (apart from your classic salt and pepper tofu) and MH do theirs well in the bun. Another must to your meal is the green mango and papaya salad. If youre into the sweet, tangy dressings you won't be able to get enough of this one. The mains are probably not enough as a meal for one as I assume they are designed to be eaten as part of the banquet. They are easy to share. The salmon we ordered was cooked absolutely beautifully, served with a sweet marinade and a light Vietnamese salad. The pork is served in delicate slices, a dipping sauce on the side and vermicelli noodles to be eaten wrapped in a lettuce cup (also accompanying the dish).<br/><br/>Overall, dinner at Madame Hanoi is a feast of incredible Vietnamese flavours, a big array of textures and senses. You will want to keep returning!

The place is looks 'wow' and the wall with the painting looks mesmerizing. The ambience raises your expectations regarding the food. We ordered a "son in law egg" and soft shell crab for entrée and it was delicious(as exclaimed by my gf) but the mains was a let down. It wasn't bad but just missed that wow. Overall the experience was good, will surely give the food another try...

Kinda alright. Went on a busy night & got the resulting scattered service. Probably not helped by the design of the place. So many nooks. The food was quite good. The salt & pepper tofu a little dry with a burnt flavour but really nice kingfish. Won't bother returning.

Celebrated NYE at Madame Hanoi and really enjoyed it! I previously reviewed and rated Madame Hanoi, giving it a rating of 2. It was very disappointing for a range of reasons. However, with the most recent experience, I was pleasantly surprised and glad I had a chance to come back. <br/><br/>From booking the event to the night itself, everything was solid. The food was a standout. Everyone around the table was in agreement. The menu was great and the dishes were absolutely delicious. Favourite being a beautiful crab dish, Cafe De Paris Cua!

Terrible service and average food that's over priced. Service was so bad that at one point one of the staff swore at us, we had to ask several time for our drinks, the bar staff were more interested in themselves than anything else.<br/>Wouldn't give them my money again if it was the last place to eat on earth!

Absolutely gorgeous interior! Very modern and similar style to Sean's Kitchen next door. Food is good, but I fail to see the French side of the menu... Vietnamese is definitely more prominent. A total of 3 dishes suitable for vegetarians also. We had the mango and papaya salad which was delicious and super flavoursome. We also had the salt and pepper tofu which even though we requested to be mild, was a bit on the spicier side. Lightly fried and not the usual flavours you get with salt and pepper tofu elsewhere. I tried to tofu baos which I loved! My favourite dish of the night! The lime and chilli mayonnaise was delicious and worked well inside the baos. My partner had the salmon as a main and enjoyed it thoroughly! Apparently it wasn't very spicy either compared to the other dishes and also came with a side of the salad. We also ordered a steamed rice (overpriced with just under $5 for a one person serve). We shared everything except the salmon and it was way too much for us! Ended up taking the tofu, rice and some of the salad home. Also had a cocktail each and mine was lovely (Hanoi Hanna or something similar) but my partner was really disappointed with his (can't remember the name but it had rum in it and was at the top of one of the cocktail menus). It seemed to have bits of pepper floating in it which would go up the straw, although the menu didn't specify that it had pepper in it. I tried it and it was way too overpowered by the alcohol flavour also and not tasty to drink at all. They offered to make him another one free of charge, but he declined and the bartender brought it back to him and suggested he drink it with a thicker straw... Not sure what this would have achieved given a thicker straw would have meant more pepper going up it. Given he voiced his disappointment to the waitress and drank about 1/4 of it with struggle, it would have been good customer service to not charge us for it at all and it was poor to bring back the drink he had already drank from, particularly after he had already been nice said not to worry about a replacement and that he didn't want to continue drinking the one he had and was fine with leaving it. We also asked the waitress what one of the ingredients was in the dish and she didn't know... Definitely some improvements to be made with the service and may be worth considering expanding the menu.

<br/>Amazingly delicious food, unfortunately it was spoiled by possibly the worst service I have experienced in an Adelaide restaurant. We we're shown to our table by a hostess and then completely ignored for 25 minutes or more. Eventually we flagged down a passing waitress to attempt to order drinks. This was difficult as she knew nothing about anything on the drinks menu. It only got worse from there. Every drink had to be requested multiple times. We ordered 4 drinks, 1 only arrived and we were met with annoyance and complaining when we asked where the rest were. Over a 4hr dining period we struggled to get 3 drinks each. A large number of dishes and drinks were sold out at the 8.30 time slot we were booked for. We had to ask a number of times to find out the deserts. It felt like we spent the entire night waving down annoyed staff who were unable to answer any of our questions or get us what we asked for. So dissatisfied as the food was excellent.

Noisy, vibrant and fun. We were a group of 5 and had the 'spoil me' banquet for $76. It is an excellent range of their dishes including kingfish sashimi wraps, a huge spencer gulf prawn, lovely piece of salmon, a delicious pork bun, some refreshing salads and finished off with crispy pork belly. Loads of great Vietnamese flavours with masses of lime, chilli, mint and coriander. Dessert is a selection of pastries. Wine list is not bad and we found the service pretty good. At $150/head after drinks etc. it's not cheap, but we would certainly go back.

We had high tea here and I So wanted to love this place but it let me down. The atmosphere and initial greeting was fabulous and I don't want to completely ride the place off as it was only high tea. I may have to try their main menu, but talk about jacking up the price coz its 'high Tea'!! It looked pretty and was a nice setting, but I feel that one 3 tiered cupcake stand and two pots of tea (1 with Hendricks gin added & 1 normal) at $160 for 4ppl is just not good enough sori :(
Monica
The menu is designed for sharing and meals arriving in single succession. The first and my favourite of the night was the goi vit salad. Not for the light-hearted, there was a brilliant mix of flavours with the spiceness, fresh watermelon and mint to balance and confit duck, with the meat cooked succulently. Next came the Banh cua lot; soft shell crab, mayo and herbs on brioche buns which was superb but very disappointingly small. The crispy baby squid was well textured but banal in taste. We finished on the heo quay cuon rau; DIY pork belly on lettuce cups which was yum but again stingy on the portion. Overall overpriced for the allocated food received. But the decour is absolutely fabulous. A mix of modern, heritage, hip Asian art, cool cutlery and a beautiful mural leaves you soaking in your sublime surroundings. Possibly a cooler place to hang than eat.

Second visit to Madam Hanoi and really enjoyed it. Larger group which was not as easy, seating not helpful. Food however really good convinced even to have snails by waitress and they were delicious! I reckon a group of four is best....loved cocktails as well.

AMAZING! Have been to Madame Hanoi's a few times now and hands down this is my favourite restaurant in Adelaide! Great atmosphere, helpful and super friendly staff, knock out flavours. Everything we ordered was fresh, visually appealing and extremely tasty!
Nick Bray
Staff were friendly, but service was slow. Had to try a few times to wave over a waiter to take our drink order. Food came out reasonable quickly, but was over-seasoned in my opinion. Lovely space and decor, but the food left us unimpressed, especially for the price.

As a Vietnamese, I always get hyped up when I see a Vietnamese restaurant. I really like the idea of fusion cuisine of this restaurant: French and Vietnamese.<br/><br/>The decorations and the art inside the restaurant was beautiful and nostalgic for me at the same time. I really like the fact that they have Vietnamese name of the dishes in their menu; made it easier for me to choose!<br/>The food overall was nice, presentation was on point, however the portions were small for the price. We ordered 4 items including dessert and the bill was $80!<br/>Nevertheless, customer service was really good. I don't think I would come back unless I have money to burn!

Friday night....busy...noisy, but not detrimentally so - that good sort of noisy that let you know people were enjoying themselves. I really liked it, all of it - the atmosphere, the staff, the service and of course the food.  It was easy, relaxed...a bit messy due to the dishes we ordered but it added to the enjoyment.

Went for dinner with a large group, the rest of the place was steady but not packed. There wasn't any service to speak of, one guest from our table after approximately 20 minutes seated ordered a drink and I was assuming she would ask everyone else what they would like to drink but no, she disappeared and returned with one drink and disappeared again. After approximately half hour we had to demand to get a drink and were never actually asked. This continued throughout the dinner always sitting with an empty drink. I wanted to spend my money but the staff wouldn't let me. Food was nice but nothing to write home about. The owners/staff need to eat at Gin Long Canteen North Adelaide to get an idea of how this type of restaurant needs to run. Overpriced no service to speak of. 👎

You certainly can't say the food at Madame Hanoi is bland. Every dish and even the drinks had hits of chilli, ginger, pepper & lime.<br/><br/>We drank gin and tonic with ginger, chilli & mint. It was refreshing but the small chunks of ginger at the bottom that came up my straw didn't do it any favours making the top of the drink more enjoyable than the bottom.<br/><br/>Service was good. Water was continually topped up which as a near fish I certainly appreciate.<br/><br/>Food was good. We ordered a few small things and a couple of larger as our waiter suggested & it was plenty enough for the 3 of us.<br/>The soft shell crab buns you cannot go wrong with. The crab was crispy and the bread super soft. <br/>Salt & pepper tofu might've been my favourite dish of the night. LOTS of pepper, lots of lime, lots of coriander. All of my favourite things.<br/>The kingfish was fresh, served in a small dice with peanuts it was pleasant enough<br/>The bigger dishes we had:<br/>The shaking beef- this was a glorified steak. It was well cooked to med rare but not a huge amount of flavour. It was served with green apple batons and pickled onion- I'm not sure if it all 'went'.<br/>The chicken wings- yum. Sticky and crispy. I loved these & would recommend.<br/><br/>When dishes are for sharing it does add up quickly to an expensive night but this ended up being fairly reasonable. I wouldn't rush back to Madame Hanoi- I do think the hype exceeds the actual fact, but happy to have been, <br/>Highlights: soft shell crab, salt and pepper tofu & chicken wings
The Munchkin
Great ambience and really spacious. Perfect for group outings. Had the pork belly bao bun which flavourvise was good . The only fault could be the bao bun was cold. Also had the grilled salmon and papaya which was cooked to perfection with a great sauce to go with. Will definitely come back.
Scott.baker
Really nice location and ambiance. Food is quite average: inoffensive but nothing wow-factor. We tried the beef entree, pawpaw salad, baby chicken. All okay, not great.
Gavin Blake
The ambiance and service was excellent HOWEVER this was not at all matched by the VERY overpriced wine list (even by the glass starting at $13 and over garliced salt and pepper tofu which again at $15 for a work lunch rates as lousy...too bad, I attended by a recommendation so i need to unfriend this person. avoid

There's a lot to like about Madame Hanoi and most if it can be summed up in two words: Banh Bao. The soft little pillows of dough filled with tasty morsels. Salt and Pepper Tofu gets a shout out too, very decent.<br/><br/>Not a fan of the wine list - both its content (limited) and its format (confusing).

Went there for dinner last week on the busy Saturday night. But our table I had reserved a week before was awaiting us. My partner got impatient and got us our drinks and when the waitress found out it was like we had ruined her life!! We had great service and fast considering how busy it was and the food well tasty as!!
Casual SA Diner
Great food. Service has to be great when there's plenty of cheaper Vietnamese in the city. Luckily service has been good so far.<br/>One comment - it's a bit weird when it's busy. They wanted us to leave our table and return to the bar after we'd eaten. I know they need to turn over tables but it took the shine off a great night.<br/>Great beers and wines and the 3 piece jazz guys are excellent.

I really wanted to love this place. <br/>Having casual dinner with friends so there wasn't huge pressure to order or have food quickly. Having said that we found ourselves looking for the waitresses on many occasions. Many times during dinner we would wait 20mins to even get a glance. They hovered around the cash till and coffee machine cleaning glasses and putting stuf away but not once were we asked how our food was or if we wanted a drink. <br/>After I sat down I had to actually call the waitress over to order wine. <br/>The food came out in an appropriate time but although good looking and tasty I felt all the dishes lacked oomph and flavour. <br/>The portion sizes are small which I can forgive if each morsel packs incredible punch but unfortunately I was underwhelmed. <br/>The fit out is very pretty and appealing but I have to agree the Chinese decor is unusual for a vietnamese inspired menu. <br/>I would love to give it another go but sadly <br/>There are too many other places I would rather try and I cannot get over bad service. <br/>Although never rude I found it complete neglectful.

I have spent a large portion of my time here tonight  waiting for someone to see if I might want another glass of wine. I am also hoping I can get one of those $9 Specials up at Cafe Junction before they close as I am still very hungry after $60 per head spent on food. Would have had better service and been fed better if I had just gone to the pokies and dumped $50 in a machine. <br/>The mural is lovely, however I feel by the end of the night she is laughing at me for being such a fool in parting with my hard earned money here. I guess dining out is a form of gambling.

After hearing many good things about this place from early on in the year, I finally paid it an overdue visit. Madame Hanoi is a French-Vietnamese fusion bistro known for its opening by celebrity chef Nic Watt, who is no stranger to Asian fusion cuisine having worked in the past with Nobu, Taupo, and ROKA. Having visited Vietnam in January, I’d been curious about the bilateral French-Vietnamese influence, only picking up traces of it here and there throughout cuisine in the country.

My partner and I went here for a celebration dinner a few weeks ago. The service was prompt, food was delicious and atmosphere was highly enjoyable. It was slightly more expensive than I would expect to pay for Vietnamese food, however the food was delicious so I think worth it. We will be back!

What an amazing transformation! Adelaide Casino’s Loco Bar on North Terrace has now been turned into a chic bistro eatery and bar – Madame Hanoi.  It’s a fantastic fit out with food to match.  Touting itself as an espresso bar and bistro, it serves both traditional and modern Vietnamese dishes, a smattering of French, plus a blend of the two.

4 of us went to the hendricks high tea. I had been for lunch before. Sometimes high tea is a bit hit or miss but this experience was a huge hit. The food was fantastic, service impeccable and the tea was pretty good too. Found we didnt want to leave and the staff made us feel like it was no problem to stay. 4 new fans of madam hanoi - will definately be back.

Yum, yum, yum! The staff here were lovely but a little slow to suggest we eat at the bar when we were sitting there already. We had to ask if we could, which was fine with them. Otherwise it was going to be a 1.5 hr wait. The food was amazing and totally worth the weekend mayhem. Having just visited Vietnam we found it to have all the classic flavours with a nice twist, making it a more unique experience. Totally delish!!
Michelle
I really liked the food here although the price was quite steep and servings could be bigger. Anyway, the highlight for me was the squid ink bao. Son-in-law eggs were also pretty good although I wouldn't pay that much for eggs next time.

Great location near the railway station. Small serves so don't be too hungry or it will cost you. Green pawpaw salad was underwhelming. Staff were lovely and i will try again

The pork belly bao was amazing. Overall very pleasant dining experience with good service. Perfect for a work gathering or family dinner. They only take bookings for 8 people or more. Be sure to check out the huge picture on the wall at the entrance!

Beautiful place with a great menu full of traditional Vietnamese items with a few vegetarian and vegan options. The green mango salad was so tasty!

I love the modern Vietnamese cuisine, hence decided to try Madame Hanoi that somebody had recommended to me. The menu seemed a bit odd with the French dishes. My understanding is that the French influenced the Vietnamese cuisine not that people in Vietnam actually ate Croque Monsieurs; that's just a bit strange. We shared four dishes; beef wrapped in betel leaf, crispy fried baby squid, rockling and scallops. The squid and rockling were amazingly good, the other two were just good. I found the food (and wine) a bit overpriced. Service was very attentive and nice, but most of the waiters did not seem to know much about vietnamese food or the specific dishes even. Every question had them go back to the kitchen to ask.

Both me and my dining companion were initially wary of this place. We're both of Vietnamese background and have been to many great Vietnamese restaurants in Adelaide. We figured Madame Hanoi would just be a more expensive and pretentious version done by a white guy (yeah I know, that's racist of me!). After dining here, I still feel the same way - but hey, that doesn't mean the food is bad. If the price point doesn't bother you, this *is* good food with good service to match. There definitely could have been more done with this French / Vietnamese connection, but I doubt there was much desire to explore anything too challenging. <br/><br/>The most annoying thing about Madame Hanoi though is the awful cultural appropriation that's going on in the interior design for this place. Maybe I've used Tumblr too much and it's now infected me, but It would have been nice if they had been able to draw a distinction between Vietnamese and Chinese. Mainly it's Emma Hack's huge mural of a body painted cheongsam on the jelly jube nippled woman but it continues with the Chinese women on the back of the menus to the random Chinese artwork on the walls. About as thoughtless as the vintage light fittings that are mandatory in about every restaurant fit out these days. There's even a piece of communist propaganda on the walls which is cute! I know I know - it's just set dressing, but when you go to a place like this, you pay for the ambience as much as you do for the food. Food - good; design - eh.

Adelaide’s SkyCity Casino has been undergoing a facelift as of late, and with the new renovations comes newcomers such as Sean’s Kitchen on Station Road, and most recently, Madame Hanoi, a bar and bistro concentrating on Vietnamese cuisine with a strong French influence which resides on North Terrace.

Is this a meal for ants???. The food is nice but $48 for the smallest 3 courses of my life was very dissapointing. The only benifit is that my gf now realised what small really is.

Ok, let's be honest. We wen.... Ok, let's be honest.<br/>We went there for our anniversary and our expectations were really high. We went on a Saturday at 8, after the gym and we were told we had to wait 1,30h. Ok, fair enough, we were so hungry that we went to have a shared wokinabox to stop momentarily the pinching hunger. At 9,30 we sat down at Madame Hanoi and we ordered two 'let us feed you'. The food was great, well presented and beautifully seasoned and cooked. Magic atmosphere. Service impeccable. But if I hadn't had the take away to start with I had been still hungry!! Portions are ridiculous, so not worth the prize. Wine list is overpriced as well (and we were not looking too much at saving money in that particular occasion). There are so many more places where you can get the same food at a more reasonable price and quantity. Perfect if you are looking for a special dinner to see people and be seen.

Not up to Adelaide standard. This has the makings of a great restaurant. Good concept, nice location, great atmosphere. However they missed the main component, food. We ordered the banquet hoping to experience all that Madame Hanoi has to offer, and were very disappointed! We all left hungry and unsatisfied with the number of dishes and the meal sizes. Each dish was half the normal size! Wine list is lacking in quality and variety and also over priced. If you want great modern Asian food in Adelaide go to Gin Long or Golden Boy, both have amazing food with great wine and you leave feeling like you have had value for money.

Had a quick lunch before the footy. It was yummy. Soft shell crab in a squid ink roll.

No reservations accepted! And rightly so - there is constant flow of people and it would slowed down if tables "waited" empty!<br/>Noisy? Yes, but what is offered as food "dampens" the noise. Amongst the best Vietnamese food we have had, including in Vietnam. The pork belly is a dream and is served to be eaten the authentic way. The fried squid was delicate and deliciously spiced! The mango salad was the real thing and the scallops with lime were delicacy!<br/>Highly recommended and we are returning tomorrow night. Pity that we have to leave Adelaide so soon as the place deserves many more visits!

Loud. Loved the food, deep fried duck egg, mango salad, beef in buns, delicious chicken and mouth watering roast banana ice cream with chocolate & toffee but what turned me off going there again was the noise! The music too loud, the voices all raised to get over the music ended our night of what could have been dining bliss but became stressful and a complete let down. I would rather eat in a less awe inspiringly decorated place which serves good Vietnamese dishes than grope my way through the mind numbing blitz of over loud 'war time' hits from m the 60's & 70's whilst trying to converse with my dinner partners all of whom were paying top price for food and wine!

Dora. The restaurant looks beautiful, so does the food. We did not stay because the wine list and drinks are just way over the top in price! We are local and do know about wine and PQR, so we'll go elsewhere. Restauranters need to be in touch with reality, the wine list should be reviewed for PQR.<br/><br/><br/>-----16 Apr, 2015-----<br/><br/>Dora. The restaurant looks beautiful, so does the food. Dishes too salty, but drinks are good. I really wish I could give this place a thumbs up, because the service is really good, drinks are great and decor fantastic, but the food really didn't wow me. The salad dishes that had fish sauces were way too salty, perhaps there was not enough lemon/sugar mixed into it. I did enjoy the banh bao (pork belly buns), and the tumeric fish, and the asian inspired mocktails were amazing. Perhaps dishes needed more herbs/colour/nut texture to it too. I felt that garnishes were too much for some and not enough for others, perhaps a bit of tinkling things will be better.

I have had two experiences at Madame Hanoi. The first was an unplanned and very quick drop in for a Vietnamese coffee. We were met with overly friendly, enthusiastic staff, which was nice but a little overwhelming. The coffee itself was authentic and delicious. Again, the service was efficient and sickly sweet. The second experience was for a dinner. Service was still friendly, but much more relaxed to begin with. We ordered a varied selection off the menu, my favourite was the rock ling, a really well constructed dish and great flavours. Unfortunately the service was a bit hit and miss during dinner, we were constantly being asked how everything was going and someone was always shadowing the table- the staff need to work on a happy medium! Over all I liked it, but there are Vietnamese restaurants I would chose to go to again before Madame Hanoi.

Worst service ever.. Great atmosphere and great smile but with a service like this I would never come back. Been sitting here for 40mins and no food delivered and no waiters checked on us or even cared about us having water or not.

Not impressed. We had dinner and quite ok with the price but when food had arrived , we were so surprised. $26 baby chicken 1 piece of lemon and a tiny bowl of sauce. Nothing else to go with it. <br/>The baby chicken was really baby , not bigger than a man plam. <br/>Fish even more crazier come only 5-6 meatball size $29 with some vegetables. Sorry never go back

Nick. Had the 45 share meal <br/> Left wanting more. Staff friendly. Not good value. Like a Vietnamese Hardrock. Golden Boy heaps better value and ambience.

Beautiful setting but lacking .... The restaraunt is very nice inside but I don't believe I will be back. The staff who served us were pleasant but we were waiting for a couple people to turn up (which they knew) and we constantly were asked every 5mins did we want a drink - food....once our friends turned up we were given menus and not even time to look and already asking our orders. I don't know but maybe from other reviewers this was an issue with no service so now they are overcompensating.<br/>The food is average and I think overpriced for what it is. The morning glory though was delicious and just like vietnam. What probably would not make me come back and I have never experienced it in other restaraunts in Adelaide is having someone come up to us and try get us off the table.....we were bought the bill and eftpos machine and demanded our credit card. We were sort of ummmm can we have a little time to work out the bill as some wanted to pay cash. She then walked off. I have never felt that I was being an inconvenience before when obviously holding up a table for them. Normally I go out with friends to socialise etc with them not quickly eat and leave. I think if you want to be a walk in only place(yes no bookings) then that is something you need to deal with and don't make your paying customer feel they are being a nuisance.<br/>So I probably wouldn't go again unless they sort some of that out and their main meals were adjusted in price to reflect the actual food for what it is ie should be less. Also too I have been to France and vietnam and like others I couldn't see what the French theme was.

Great food and ambience. I came here with my boyfriend and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Great service, our waitress was helpful and accommodating. Food was lovely and fresh too. It's very busy so would definitely recommend going early to avoid waiting for a table. The cocktails were excellent, very potent! The only let downs were the overpriced baby chicken (delicious yet $25 for a very small serving), we were given two serves of a dish we only ordered one serve, and they forgot our salad. Other than that, a very cool new place in the revamped Casino.

Management needs to learn how to manage. What a shame that the service and management of this restaurant is so bad. The food is exceptional - i'll grant them that. But...... On arrival the waitress was rude, making us stand and wait at the counter as opposed to waiting at the bar. When we eventually got to the bar the waiter poured a glass of red wine from the end of a bottle and then proceeded to top up the glass with a newly opened bottle. Staff who have not been trained. No delegation of staff to tables or areas so waiters who walked past every 60 seconds asked if we were ok. Then the bill they put through on my credit card belonged to another table. We waited very patiently for 20 mins as the management ran around trying to give me a credit. We stood there like lemons as they tried to work it out. This in itself was not a problem. When I suggested they simply pay me the difference in cash, the manager said "no" but we can give you a credit to use in the restaurant. Um - I don't think so. How about - take a seat and I'll grab you a drink/coffee while you wait for us to fix our mistake. Nothing. The problem was not the staff or the mistake - but managers who clearly don't know how to manage a problem.

Bad food, bad service. Crispy squid stale, service bad despite eye contact with wait staff was just ignored, overpriced unpalatable salads. Save your money eat elsewhere.

Amazing Experience. Food was incredible. Could not fault any of the dishes ordered as we thoroughly enjoyed everything. The service was wonderful. So refreshing to have happy, polite and welcoming service. Food came out promptly. Will definitely be returning and would recommending to anyone.

Madame Hanoi by Chef Nic Watts is based inside the Adelaide Casino.  There are four separate dining areas, with a bar both downstairs and upstairs.  You can relax and have a few drinks whilst admiring the pictures on the wall.

A fortnight ago, I had the opportunity to dine at Madame Hanoi with award winning chef, Nic Watt and a handful of other food bloggers; we got to listen to his story behind the restaurant and the stories behind some of the dishes. Nic Watt has a background in Japanese cooking, but after travelling to Vietnam with his wife on their honeymoon, he was drawn to their French influenced food and culture, and as a result, Madame Hanoi came to fruition. As soon as you step foot into the doorway of Madame Hanoi in the heritage listed Railway Station building, you’re met with a cherry blossom coffee machine that is the answer to all your problems come 7am in the morning… or that much needed pick-me-up caffeine hit towards 3pm! Pretty little (or not so little) thing ain’t she?! There’s also a cabinet filled with delectable French pastries and desserts beside it, with a variety of cheeses above housed under glass cloches, and even Vietnamese chocolate blocks for purchase. Cheeseeeeee~! I am super intrigued by these Marou Chocolates and will have to drop in to get a block to try! On the wall to the right from the entrance is a grand mural of Madame Hanoi in a traditional dress that spans the height of the building created by Adelaide-based artist Emma Hack . The 8m high painting incorporates a number of oriental ‘good luck’ motifs such as the koi fish and double dragons along with a variety of flowers: peonies, lotus’ and cherry blossoms which ties in perfectly with their coffee machine. Restored 1920s ticket booths are still intact within the building and are used as features, condiments as often seen in Vietnamese restaurants but these are a little bit fancier in Madame Hanoi bran

Good service good food. I don't know a lot about French Vietnam cuisine food like a few of the other comments but, both my wife and I enjoyed the great service and even more we enjoyed the food. Fantastic flavours. Would recommend and hope the people of Adelaide give this place a go.

Just OK. Heard some hype so had to go. food was pretty good and we had a really lovely waitress. Expensive for the type of food it was though.
I Eat Adelaide
Loved Madame's buns. We dropped in for dinner to @madamhanoi on Tuesday last week and had a really enjoyable night. Our initial drinks took a little while to arrive but overall the timing throughout was perfect for us and not at all rushed which my companion had experienced before on a Saturday evening. We ordered as we went along rather than all at once which often means everything arrives together and it worked out perfectly. The wine list is a bit confusing and I am not a fan of laying it out by weight, raciness, firmness or vibrancy - i guess I am a bit of a traditionalist that area.<br/>Menu standouts for us were the goi vit, a cripsy confit duck and watermelon salad and the bahn bao nhan thit bo, 3 buns with braised beef, chilli and hanoi pickles well priced at just $14.60. My only gripe was that the share plates should have been replaced after the duck dish because we had to look at them for the next 2 courses. We had several waiters/ food runners throughout the night but our favourite was the young Vietnamese girl who gave us excellent menu advice and who later asked, in an enquiring way, if the wine went well with what we had ordered. She had a genuine interest in learning more about the wine rather than the usual is everything ok. She was a gem and so friendly - definitely a gold star from us. I also engaged with the charming French barman who urged me to come back and try the perfect croque madame for lunch - I most certainly will. The place is still very new and settling down but I adore the venue and this very clever makeover of the old ticketing area of the railway station, it compliments perfectly what is happening around that precinct and just up the road in the CBD.
Word On The Eat
Slow. Although the staff were friendly and the decor and ambience truley beautiful, all was let down by slow service. Took about 20 mins for 2 cocktails to be made and food portions very small for the cost. I probably wouldnt return to eat there but has a great atmosphere for drinks if the service was speeded up.

Great decor, ok food. Decor is amazing and good vibe however the food is much better at a cheap and cheerful vietnamese. Not enough herbs or chilli in dishes. Whiting slider was pretty much bread. Staff advised they would bring out the food for the three of us in a relaxed fashion but then it all arrived within five minutes of ordering and we struggled to fit it on the table. <br/>Would return for the decor but not food.

The food was tasty and well priced. The waitress service was good. BUT the food getting to the table was the trouble, the waitress said the best way to experience the food was to share and order many dishes (so we did) and she said it would all come out together and pick at it all. Well that was not what happened at all. The fist bit came out (green mango salad, which was delish) then 15 mins later next bit, another 10 mins later and another and so on for a lengthy time. This wasn't good enough. We where there for 2 hours and had to leave and tell them to stop cooking the food. It was terrible food to table process but the food that did come was well balanced and tasty.

Really nice food and very attentive service.

Madame Ripoff. Lovely deco & ambience, but other than that, there's nothing really spectacular about this place.<br/>Food portions were small & overpriced. And in terms of taste or flavour, nothing exciting or remarkable.<br/>Staff were friendly but not well trained.<br/>And the most important piece of advice: do not byo cake if u're planning to celebrate a birthday here. They charge a ridiculous $10 per head cakeage fee just to bring our cake out on a plate. A cakeage fee is understandable as long as it is a reasonable charge. But $10 per person is just preposterous & a plain ripoff! And the waitresses did not even have the courtesy of warning us about the fee beforehand. Only realized after paying the bill...was charged $40 for the 4 of us...cakeage fee ended up being more expensive than the cake itself!

Is OK, and settling in.. Love this venue for the theming and decor. Interesting coffee featuring Vietnamese styles as well, nice change to the regularly ordered coffees. The venue is great with seating for coffees, and dining, and big bar areas. <br/>The food looks good, and reflects Vietnam flavours. Flavour generally hits the mark, and our large table seemed to order almost everything so got a good look at most things. <br/>Feedback for reflection, it isn't cheap for what you get. The mini banh mi rolls need to be lighter and crunchy (could have been a bad bread batch). Would have liked the crispy pork belly to have been rendered more, and the pork served warm in the roll. The crab slider (tiny) served in a black bread bun was very sceney and I was told tasty. The squid tasty, though a tad chewy, and those who had the Croque Monsieur enjoyed it. The betel leaf dish is not as Adelaide people know it from other venues, the leaf is cooked and wilted in the meat dish with noodles, see the pic, the diner enjoyed it.

A disappointment. I took my wife to Madame Hanio today for lunch. This place has lost its way already Food was over priced and under provided.<br/>Very noisey and and slow to provide the minuscule servings.<br/>I will not be returning or recommending to anyone.

Treat yourself to the authentic condensed milk coffee. A couple of years ago we went to Hanoi to check out one of the worlds best kept secrets...the dozen or so surviving French restaurants from the colonial days. They are sensational. This little reminder does them justice and brought memories flooding back..not exactly French..not exactly Vietnamese..a hint of the exotic. Really helpful, friendly staff, good food, impressive decor and really good coffee... old school Vietnamese or espresso . We've been twice and will be back.

Please be honest to Adelaide. Agree with few review, and I think the staffs agreed too, some how. Asked what is French in the Vietnamese cuisine? Whats the different comparing to normal vietnamese cuisine? She looked at me and no idea what to tell me. Isnt that a lot of the Vietnamese cuisine has influenced by French anyway? i.e Pho & Bahn Mi.<br/>Well the only few French look items are not available for dinner anyway. French chef must have only work in day time.<br/>Ordered few selections..... duck eggs and chicken eggs actually taste different, but cost is different when purchased. Please, dont take Adelaide dinners for a joy ride. Money is no issue on setting the venue up, but ego and no sense of direction will be an issue in a long run.<br/>Just call it as a Modern Vietnamese, may be expectations wont be that high.<br/>I hope this place will improved or get into the right track.

Disaster. Avoid. Honestly the worst dining experience I have had in Adelaide. Words won't do it justic but I will try.....(1) Service is atrocious, everyone working there was confused. (2) Ambience was all wrong. I think they are aiming for funky bar come restaurant (which appeals to me), but they didn't pull it off... and music was too loud to hold a conversation (3) Poor value for money. For example, the "large" dishes are entree size and set you back $30ish, and an average wine is priced at $20ish per glass. Why? (4) Agree with earlier review that it's not Vietnamese French fusion... it's just Vietnamese with a few very simple French options that are not even available at dinner time, like a madame croque monsieur (ie a French toasty). In summary, if you want good Vietnamese then go to nearby Gin Long or Gouger St, and if you want a funky bar come restaurant then there are better options near Peel St and surrounding area

Love the décor. A great new place with lots of ambiance. The decor is absolutely beautiful. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. I thought the food was expensive but what we ordered was delicious. The cocktails contained an overly large amount of ice which watered down the taste of the drinks - we could have been drinking flavoured water. Definitely will be going back again to try different selections.Well done to the designers and decorators - you have created something truly lovely!

I enjoyed a lovely lunch here. I found the menu a little disjointed with the French element, which was only croque monseurs, which is a bit odd. I haven't been to Vietnam myself, however I haven't heard anyone they do a mean croque monseur there?? The wine list was divided by types of grapes or sweet, dry, crisp which was very confusing. Several items on the menu were unavailable which I found disappointing for their first day of trading. Food I did have was lovely and had great flavours. The duck salad and crispy pork belly lettuce cups were standouts. For two ladies, a glass of wine each the bill was $120. Ouch. Quite overpriced 'streetfood' given the portion sizes I thought. Street food often attracts street food similar prices, however not at Madane Hanoi.im looking forward to returning and trying some of the items that were unavailable. The service was excellent, lovely attentive staff.

Set in the former railway site is Madame Hanoi which serves up classic Vietnamese dishes, some of which are French influenced. The menu consists of salads, steamed buns, baguette sliders, street food, and a selection of small and large plates. Prior to ordering, I was told the serving sizes were small as the dishes were designed to be shared.
