So thrilled to have my favourite restaurant open again! Eddie and Sayaka ensure a level of quality that is unparalleled. We had beef sashimi, green beans and sesame cream, tea-smoked duck, grilled pork belly, grilled chicken meatballs, oden (daikon stew with fish cakes), with the always perfect Ministry of Clouds Riesling. It was like coming home.
Great food, friendly service. I wish the covid19 thing will be over soon, can’t wait to go back for some good chicken wings, chicken with cheese, grill pork belly, rice ball and some Japanese beer. It is my favourite place for dinner.

Service is amazing. Food was delicious!
Great Japanese food in adelaide The baby squidis awesome Strong recommend ~o(〃'▽'〃)o
在阿德吃到最好吃的日式烤物,品质超赞,小鱿鱼以及和牛烤串都一级棒,强烈推荐 还会再去 。~o(〃'▽'〃)o
We went there last Staurday night with my partner. The food is extremelly fresh and very well cooked. We chose different dishes and they were all full of flavours and very tasty. We highly recommend this place. The Chef Eddie is highly skilled and the service was perfect, very friendly and professional staff.
One of my favourite places . Would eat here daily if it wasn't so darn expensive . Servings are small but so delicious you can rack up a decent bill quick
Had awesome food and friendly gesture from staffs! I’m so glad that Found out authentic Japanese restaurant which offers authentic food with great hospitality.Definitely coming back and highly recommend!!
Food was amazing! We let chef pick our meals, stand outs are veggie gyoza, chicken thighs inside out, salmon sticks, meat sticks, octopus balls, asparagus and mushrooms. The rest was nice but not quite our flavours but tried it all and there was still little left over. Like we were taught, you go to this restaurant for the experience and culture of what Japan is actually like, not what westerners have dictated it. No sushimi or sushi rolls...this is yakitori traditional style like japan which is an experience in itself. Staff are committed and friendly with a wealth of knowledge and wanting to share.
Come for the food stay for the experience, and go with an open mind.
This japanese restaurant is awesome. The concept os traditional japanese grilled restaurant. We had a wonderful dining experience here. All food is beautiful. We had chicken cheese yakitori, school prawn, teba-saki yakitori, grilled pork belly, five mushroom in a broth and truffle oil. Food delivered in a prompt time. Good service as well, typical of traditional japanese, they are polite and friendly, kinda miss this personal touch service as I observe very little restaurants in adelaide has a good warm service standard like this restaurant has. Well a bit overpriced tho but I think is worth it. I definitely will come back.
This place is small, crowded, but very intimate at the same time. They provide a variety of yakitori (skewers), and a variety of alcohol too - numerous sake and other Japanese drinks (beer, cider).
Food was good, but keep in mind that the portions are small (3-4 skewers). I would say that it is more of a bar with unique side dishes, rather than a dinner place. Head in there for good drinks and an experience! Service was also good - they provided good recommendations for food and assisted us with a choice of sake.
I really love this place. It is small and cosy, the staff are just lovely and the selection, quality and taste of the food is something to be savoured. My advice is to try as many things on the menu as you can. There's also a good selection of Japanese beers too.
Been wanting to get here for awhile especially with all the great reviews but unfortunately one visit was enough for me. The service was fantastic, so friendly and attentive but overall the menu choices and prices really let this place down. I was shocked at how much the beers cost. I love hitachino nest white ale but here it's $14 and down the road at Melbourne st cellars it's only $7!!! What a rip off. If you eat chicken then u are set but I don't and felt the rest of the menu is a bit small. Overall the food was good, the meat is cooked well and is tender, but pricey and still was hungry when we left and had already spent $100 for two of us with only one drink.
Delicious food, full of flavour and perfect portion size for tapas style dining. Attentive and warm service. Reasonably priced, my partner and I shared 7 dishes and a bottle of sake which totalled at $126. Will definitely return!
Tasty, good service, and nice atmosphere outside. Good selection of beers. A little bit quirky compared to other Japanese places in adelaide.
Not for the price sensitive. It's good food with good japanese beers. Only complaint was for the chef to swap out asparagus for green beans without telling me it had run out. They were nice enough not to charge me for that dish.
I had such a nice meal here. The food is great and the staff are so friendly. It's not cheap, but it's definitely worth the money because it is amazing- I guess you get what you pay for! I can't wait to visit again and try more dishes.
Absolutely love this restaurant. Great service and great food! Eddie is a great chef! My favs are tempura mushroom, beef sashimi and the tori Kara chicken, but everything is delicious. Highly recommended!
This restaurant does great Yakitori- which is skewered Japanese food, cooked on the grill. The staff here are really lovely and friendly, and the food is very tasty. Favourites were the tempura mushrooms with green tea salt and the katsu chicken skewers. They also have really nice Japanese Plum wine on the menu, which I highly recommend that you try. They serve it in about 45ml portions over ice, so you sip it like a spirit- but its deliciously sweet and fruity. I would recommend visiting this restaurant if you are in Adelaide! The only reason I havent given 5 stars is that it is quite expensive for the small portion sizes- If you are dining with a Male you will have to order quite a few dishes to be full! Expect to pay $100+ per couple.
Yakitori Takumi is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Adelaide. The first and only yakitori restaurant in Adelaide. They specialise in grilled skewers of different meats and vegetables. Everything is grilled fresh right in front of your eyes in their small open kitchen. When I saw they were doing a tasting menu for Tasting Australia I immediately rang up to secure a booking. They were serving 12 courses with matching sake. An event not to be missed!
Here it is – my first review without any food photos. Yes, Yakitori Takumi is the first establishment that I’ve come across with a ‘no photos of food or menu’ policy. Being majorly disappointed, I asked for an explanation and was told that they used to allow photos until they had a bad experience where another establishment had pretty much replicated their menu and the way the dishes looked, so much so that they had a few comments from customers assuming that they were in fact sister restaurants.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. So many vegan options, too. I loved the tempura mushrooms with green tea salt! The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because of the layout - a table for two can only sit at the bar, which is a bit cold and in the way.
Wow. Really attentive service, friendly staff and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. The tempura mushrooms with green tea salt and miso eggplant were my favourites of the night but I enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Tried plum wine for the first time too and it was delicious. Will definitely return and recommend.
The food here was seriously scrumptious and the waitress was professional whilst personable (clarified ingredients, provided details re the different saki, and always had a smile on). It is on the pricey side, however it makes up for it in taste and atmosphere. Great for when u feel like trying different tastes and dishes as there are plenty to choose from and small portion sizes.
Taking is the real deal. Excellent yakitori. Really authentic and the gyozas were scrumptious with the tastiest pastry covering. Never had them like that before. Great atmosphere! Packed to the brim on a Thursday night. Lovely and cosy just like in Japan.
Very good the best and only yakitori in Adelaide highly recommended. The food is fresh well prepared and well priced with local South Australian produce
Amazing dining and cultural experience!
Best Japanese Restraunt in Adelaide.
Everything about this establishment screams authenticity and quality. It's like walking into a traditional Izakaya eatery in Japan. The food is cooked in a classic Japanese bbq style and is mouth watering delicious. I was told by the owner that all sauces and seasoning are made and blended on site from authentic imported Japanese ingredients. Attention to detail is exceptional.
Notable mentions are the grilled pork/chicken skewers and mushrooms.
Sapporo beer is also readily available too and the Sake list has a wide variety.
The staff are welcoming and friendly and the place has a lovely warm & intimate feel.
A must try!
This place is absolutely Devine I can't fault it!!! We live in the Middle East and we travel the world and eat and drink in the best places however this place tops them all xx
One of my favourite places in Adelaide to eat. The food is cooked on skewers (which is how yakitori is always cooked) in serves of 3, you can ask for serves of 4 skewers instead. Very tasty Japanese morsels. This is not a sushi bar!! They serve delicious warm Japanese tapas best eaten with Japanese Beer, preferably Echigo beer which is on their menu.
The dishes are fully flavoursome, while the serves are small they are very satisfying on the taste buds.
They serve the usual yakitori of chicken or pork belly or beef but have a rather extensive menu for a yakitori bar.
My faves are the eggplant dengaku- eggplant with a sweet savoury miso sauce, baby squid (ika) - grilled fresh squid with spicy seasoning, and smoked tea duck - duck slices with a beautiful orangey sauce.
The asparagus & haloumi cheese wrapped in pork belly is a must! I always get 2 serves so I don't have to share with my partner.
The prawns are huge and also another must try.
It is a bit on the pricey side for a restaurant but pretty average priced for a tapas bar. My usual bill is $100-$140 including drinks for 2 people. The atmosphere is great, really relaxed and a nice bar feel. Staff are very attentive and friendly. If you get to sit at the bar you will have a great view of the grill where the chef cooks the dishes. Quite entertaining and a great opportunity to food perve in case you don't know what to order.
Price aside the food & atmosphere definitely makes this place worth it. If I could I would dine at this restaurant everyday.
The kangaroo was amazing. We visited for dinner on a Friday night and were amazed by the customer service and attention to detail!
All of the food was delicious but our favorite was the kangaroo. The serving sizes are small so the waiting staff suggest ordering approximately 7/8 plates.
We would highly recommend this restaurant for an authentic Japanese experience.
Thankyou for having us!
Perfect. SO GOOD. Everything was perfect.
Staff, decor, food.. my god. We were so impressed!
Order one of everything and who cares how much it costs!
Love love love!. We went here for a special dinner out to celebrate my birthday and I have to say we both loved it! As other reviewers pointed out they specialise in a series of small dishes (tapas style) and everything we ate was delicious. The service was excellent, really helpful, friendly and genuine. Just check the prices before you accidentally and enthusiastically order the most expensive sake on the menu (oops! it was delicious though!).
Can't fault it. The food was outstanding and the service superb. Very knowledgable and friendly waiting staff who advised us on dishes and sake. Perfect.
Fantastic. The food is modern and authentic, just as you will find in Tokyo, even if the wait staff aren't Japanese. But hey, that's like expecting all staff at an Italian restautant to be Italian... Intimate and wonderful. Do it!
The best Japanese food I've ever eaten!! Friendly service, staff are always smiling and will make pleasant conversation. Watch what you order though as the price adds up quickly!! Also, because the serves are of three you tend to order too much and leave very full... But satisfied
Beautiful food and great service. Catered for vegan and gluten free requirements perfectly. The fried tofu is amaze!
If money was no object.... ...then I would dine here more. Faultless service, lovely atmosphere, and save for one dish (a rather meh grilled mushroom) everything was spot on and perfect.
Love at first meal. Absolutely love this place and I have only been here once! The skewers were tasty and each dish had good flavour profiles. Can be quit pricey. Would like to see more ramen options on the menu. Tonkotsu ramen perhaps? Then it would be perfect.
Mind = blown. I first enquired via email about more menu choices, as I was planning a group dinner. One of my friends eats vegan and gluten free only, therefore it was imperative they had enough options for her, as well as the remaining carnivores. Eddie responded and was most helpful, offering to include dishes on the special board to cater for said friend with the strict dietary requirements. Satisfied with his thorough and quick reply, I booked a table for five. The following day, a very cheery staff member phoned to confirm my booking. By the time it came to actually eat, my expectations were high, considering the exceptional service I'd received leading up to our visit. Thankfully, the food was great, along with the selection of drinks, and it all cost a little over $200 for 5 people. Top value. I was also pleased that there was no charge for cakeage, when I informed that we would be bringing a cake for dessert. First class service from Eddie and his delightful team from start to finish. The gorgeous Japanese waiter deserves a special mention, for his patience and humour throughout the course of the evening. Only three months in Australia and he speaks fluent English, too! Do yourself a favour and try this devine BBQ-style/tapas restaurant.
Dinner for 2 costs us $90 each but it was totally worth it. Their yakitori is well cooked especially the more traditional ones. Service was top class with attentive, patient, knowledgable & friendly! Top point to our server who was still a trainee whom recommended me our sake for the night. All in all, definately worth visiting! Will probably go for after dinner snacks & drinks so my wallet will be somewhat preserved. :)
Awesome restaurant, it's only downfall is I can't afford to eat there every week! I think.one of Adelaide's best kept secrets.
Yummy. Great food but can get expensive if you just keep ordering.... And ordering....and...
Love the Giant Mushrooms!. Yakitori Takumi is an Izakaya style Japanese dining. I love the atmosphere. The food are all so fresh and the grilling method is non oily. There's many surprisingly yummy flavours that is uniquely created by owner & head chef Eddie! The staff recommended me to have a sparkling cold sake and it was Perfect! If you're not afraid of some fat, go for the pork belly. If you love seafood like me, the prawns are to die for. My Fav? THE GIANT MUSHROOMS!!! It's too good, do not skip this! ;) ps: book a table to avoid disappointment, it's a small restaurant!
An absolute Gem!. First timeer and absolutely loved Yakitori Takumi!! It is definitely something to experience, very unique, tapas style Japanese food but with good generous servings. Staff was friendly and provided excellent service all night. We ordered about 10 dishes, each and every one of them was exceptional in quality, presentation and taste. Atmosphere was intimate, relaxed, yet casual and lots of fun with an open kitchen. Perfect place for a intimate dinner or group gathering of food sharing and flowing drinks. We could have sat there all night eating and drink, loved loved it! Highly recommended and we will definitely be a returning regular.
Bellissimo!! Never expecti.... Bellissimo!!
Never expecting Japanese can be done in such way. beautiful cooking great service. eggplant with chef's special sauce is the must try.
Amazing! Blew away my already high expectations. Can't wait to come back.
Fantastic!. Unique, charming Yakitori restaurant in North Adelaide. Attentive, friendly service and tasty morsels of perfectly prepared food. Will be making this a regular.
Pursuit of pleasure. A restaurant in the pursuit of pleasure and sensual enjoyment of food.
Warm and inviting atmosphere.
Cheeky humor.
Highly reccomend for an authentic japanese dining experience. Friendly service cozy atmosphere and great food what more could you ask for!
Worth it. I enjoy Yakitori Takumi for its excellent morsels of food and long saki selection. The blend of delicate Japanese service and robustness of dry humour is a pleasant surprise.
Walking in off the street is not always possible given its popularity. Sometimes I been refused a table a little harshly with a disdainful eye - possibly because I dress a little ordinarily relative to the depth of my potential account.
Once you have had Japanese here, you will find returning to the ordinary a little harder next time.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience, even though it was a touch pricey it was a great meal. The staff were excellent and friendly. The food was lovely and drinks list was interesting, we especially liked the smoked duck, pork belly, salmon belly and prawns. All in all a awesome experience!!!!
This is exactly a good Japanese restaurant, the food is very authentic flavour despite the chef are not the Japanese; the services attitude comparable to the five star hotel, the decoration of the restaurant is unique, the staff are friendly, the atmosphere of the restaurant is full of intimacy. Also, you can find a variety of Japanese beer there, even the limited edition as well. This restaurant is absolutely highly recommended. Try try.!!!
Absolutely loved Yakitori Takumi. Yes a little bit on the pricey side but I felt it was worth it, every little bite was delish. Can't wait to try everything on the menu!
Just ate there tonight after seeing te reviews and I loved it! Admittedly it's towards the pricey side, but you definitely get premium quality, a great atmosphere and helpful staff. The waitress asked if we were new to Yakitori cuisine and gave us a quick rundown of what they offer, their cuisine and culture, and recommendations. Everything we ordered was brilliant... Especially the salmon steak. Mmm...
Rabbittom. I am a regular visitor to Adelaide & dinner @ Yakitori Takumi. The quality of food is out of proportion to the price (in a good way). I would fly over just for Eddie's delicious food & his special wines. That's the secret that public might not know - that Eddie has a cellar where he can always find a special bottle of S.A. wine - in particular Riesling. Next time when you book make sure you ask especially for Tommy's wine list. You will know how good Ed is apart from his food.
Great experience. A fantastic place to try different japanese beers ( expensive mind you) and great tasty morsels of Japanese BBQ. Try the hearts! Great place!!
Nostalgic. My wife and I were the first customers on the first night of the restaurant when still names Yakitori Daikichi
Fantastic food and value
Impeccable. Sake list is very good and offered variety. Bill was towards the pricey side but you pay for quality and atmosphere (at least it's cheaper than flying to Japan...)
Oiishi!. Very authentic yakitori and just like in Japan. Service is always with a smile and waiters/waitresses are very pleasant. Good sake list as well! Definitely a hidden treasure in Adelaide.
Another Hidden Gem. Met some interstate friends there for dinner recently, their pick. I live in North Adelaide and had never hear of this spot. Great food in entree size serves that are easy to share with friends. Just keep ordering till your full. Really tasty and a fun way to dine. I'll be heading back soon.
What a cool little restaurant. Been here a few times and never dissapoints. Great friendly service and the food is fantastic. The deep fried tofu, and the Octopus balls are awsome. Always changing specials this is a gem. Keep it quiet as is only small.
Great unique food that seems consistent with the fun of small plates. Some really nice, but expensive quality sake's, Adelaide needs more of this.
This place is a real Gem. It was our first try of a Yakitori BBQ Bar. It is well serviced by friendly staff to help you order. The food comes out like Tapas and is both unusual and freshly made behind the bar. It is intimate yet casual and deserves the accolades it's receiving. It would take a couple of visits to develop a "favourite selection." They have a website
www.yakitori-takumi.com Worth having a look to prepare.
We couldn't decide where to eat whilst visiting Adelaide and found this place via urbanspoon ... The reviews were accurate, the food is amazing and the staff are lovely! First the staff are attentive and helpful and make you feel so welcome. Second the food -OMG - amazing! Go with the chef recommendations - the rice balls with soy, pork belly, button mushrooms, and the list goes on. But also on the main menu there are more delights, the duck with plum sauce and the kangaroo are amazing. We only wished we lived in Adelaide to enjoy this more often.

Amazing!. Loved this place. The atmosphere was relaxed, upbeat and fun. The service was impeccable! Not too expensive at all and being served by Eddy (the chef) who cooks everything in front of you is really cool (also the nicest guy ever!). Would recommend it to everyone!
Delicious.. Yakitori Takumi is a small but well presented yakitori bar with perfectly attentive and friendly staff, delicious food, and some interesting deviations from the traditional chicken thigh on a skewer theme. There's duck on a skewer, pork belly on a skewer, wagyu beef on a skewer, prawns on a skewer, and even vegetables and tofu on a skewer if one is that way inclined. The twice dipped chicken hearts are delicious!
The good quality of the food is complemented by a small but interesting wine list and a bunch of hard to get Japanese beers.
Yakitori takumi is a delightful restraunt with the right japanese theam. The restraunt is excelent because Its unique and sells something other than sushi.
I am not a friend to write a review about a restaurant, but will still have an expection sometime like Yakitori Takumi, fall in love here since visiting the first time and been here so many times since then, love the atmosphere, the passion with the food, everything cooked beautifully, real authentic Yakitori that is brought from their country, been to Japan so many time, Yakitori Takumi definitely feels like it takes me back to Japan. I absolutely have no idea why some reviews are so ridiculous, what is the lack of favour or small portions, for those people, they don't know the real authentic Yakitori, I think Big Mac may more suitable for them.
When you think of artisans, what country would first pop into your mind? Japan of course! Takumi yakitori or 'artisan yakitori' lives up to its name. Initially you may be surprised at the portion size and price, but this is how yakitori should be. Eddie's and his team's food is all about bringing out the best flavor of each dish; the photos just do not do it justice. Whether its lightly seasoned with salt as with the Wagyu, succulent pieces of baby squid dipped in sweet yakitori sauce with a touch of spice or the perfectly cooked fatty flame seared salmon topped with lightly seasoned radish, complexity and depth of flavor exceeds most "high end" restaurants. To be honest, the friendly atmosphere, lively staff and great service all contribute to Takumi being one of the best restaurants in Australia. As a foodie, this is a must must must try if you are in Adelaide. P.S book in advance as it can be packed!
Perfect, perfect, perfect!
Intimate and cosy dining experience and if you’re fortunate enough to get a seat at the bar, you can watch the chefs weave their magic. Friendly service and every dish was sensational! Really enjoyed the sake and left feeling full, happy and litttttt
This place is my favourite place to eat in the whole of Adelaide. The staff are EXTREMELY inviting, the food is amazing, the atmosphere is homey, I couldn’t ask for anything more.
10/10
Tasting Australia night - Eddie you and your staff were amazing the 15 course yakitori and Saki degustion menu was brilliant and a true introduction / education into Saki - can’t wait to come back
Staff were very nice at all time, been here for few time if we are craving for Japanese food. Many of Japanese wine to choose, recommend the yuzu wine, so good to pair with skewers.
My first dining experience with Takumi Yakitori was superb! I love love love Japanese food so this year I decided to try Takumi on my birthday. We did not make a reservation so we turned up at 6pm when it was just opened. Staff were so friendly, they knew it was our first time here hence they gave us an introduction on everything. The price might be a little high for skewers but I think it was worth it. You can tell they have put so much effort maintaining the quality of the food and they do care about their customers. This place is best to visit with a bunch of good friends so I’m already thinking of bringing my friends over in the future:) Perhaps it’s better to make a reservation in advance. Thanks Takumi and the team! :)
You can't beat this restaurant, it's my absolute favourite. Food is exquisite with wonderful flavour - all beautifully presented. Cosy atmosphere, incredible staff and brilliant service. It's a small, intimate place and very popular so can be a bit noisy, but after a couple of drinks you won't notice it! Fabulous place, I love it.
