Those poppy seed and sweet potato waffles . . . . seriously you need to do a version that we can buy and heat up at home. Sooooooooooooo good (every meal at FFD is good but these waffles are my new favourite!!)

I returned to the Flying Fig today to thank the owner for his assistance 2weeks ago when a car came out of the side street and hit mine. The owner of the Flying Fig had closed for the day and very generously opened up to enable me to sit inside and wait for my family to arrive. Today I had a lovely coffee and bagel with lox, cream cheese and capers. Will be returning for more.. great place and atmosphere, service is fantastic considering how busy it is..

Took kids for Sunday morning breakfast, tad busy with outdoor table available only. Did we book?, no, so suggest book ahead!!! Reuben sandwich simply awesome - fresh pressed grapefruit juice fantastic. Others had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, and pulled meat roll. Loads of street parking in AM. Highly recommend

The Flying Fig bring New York to Adelaide. Their reuben sandwiches are enormous and because everything is made in-house, it is tasty. Even takeaway the food is still great. They hand make their bagels too.

The Flying Fig Deli - Seriously, You Better Give a Flying Fig About This Place

Hi foodies, It was a freezing cold day in Adelaide, I had a queasy tummy and the only thing that makes me feel better is a broth. Ok, if you have read my stuff before you know I'm a broth addict and no there are no meetings for it. I wouldn't want to go, I happen to enjoy being a broth addict. I was perusing the menu and then the specials board and so much delicious jumped out of me but what jumped out and slapped me silly was the matzo ball soup. It felt like it was speaking to me, saying, "Order me lady, this is why you're here!"

We went there around 10 oclock there to ate our brunch. We ordered latek, breakfast bagel, sweet potato wafel and the beef hash.
For those who likes sweet stuff, order the sweet potato waffle! I really like how they serve it. Its sweet its savoury, still sweet! And my favorite one is the beef hash. I love it! Gonna comeback for the beef hash! Yay!
The place itself superb comfortable.

What a lovely why to spend a Sunday afternoon lunch.
The Rubin Sandwich and Brisket Burger were great choices together with some house made drinks.
The Rubin was a bit spicy as it had a chilli rub.
The Brisket Burger was delightful.
Although the prices were a bit steep the meal was worth it

The staff were polite, friendly and very accommodating. Food was prepared and served quickly. Good range of choices on the menu, we would definitely come back for lunch at some stage to explore the rest of the menu. Pricing is great considering they are in the heart of North Adelaide.

Brekky here with friends every few months. Cosy atmosphere but chilled too. Had breakfast muffin with bacon, egg and onion relish thing which was yummy in flavour and generous in portion. Love that water is available and whilst I prefer coffee after, before is ok. Like swipe card donating for guide dogs I think too, good to be generous

Coffee is good here 👌 The place is cute and full of good vibes. Service is welcoming and friendly. Menu has a great selection of foods, have enjoyed all of the dishes I’ve tried here for brunch. Even came when they had a dinner menu and that was tasty too.

Finally! A Jewish inspired cafe delicatessen in Adelaide! Poppie loves Jewish sandwiches. They remind him of his travels in the USA. Pastrami, brisket, corned beef mmmmmm delicious. The Reuben here at the flying fig is amazing. Poppie loved every bite of it and didn't want it to end. The sauerkraut and corned beef were plentiful! The Rye grilled with butter just delectable. Poppie can't wait to come back on a weekend to try the pastrami on Rye or the briskit burger. Coffee was also great as beans are sourced from the coffee barun. The only downside is that the prices are a touch too high. It's $24 for the Reuben and a large pickle. Definitely worth an eat 👍

All staff were super bubbly & happy. They were happy to answer all our annoying questions from the menu & provided their suggestions. Everyone was very happy with their meals-loads of flavour, fresh tasting and presented well. Our only criticism is our coffees ordered took a long time to come out. I will definitely be back.

Food was delicious, the Ruben was excellent with a generous serve of meat. The latke was good too, but I would of preferred them thicker and less cooked. Eggs were perfect cooked. Service was brilliant

Revisited in May 2028. Service was still excellent. Sweet Potato waffles were tasty and generous, the salmon blini dish was just too small, and I left hungry, but the pickled tomato gave the dish a wonderful kick. Coffee was weak on this occasion.

Really friendly staff. Good breakfast (latkes) and something a bit different.
Only negative- the skin/scales are left on salmon and I got a large mouthful of that which wasn't very nice 😕

I came here for brunch with my friends, and ordered the Lox bagel. Firstly, the parking here is super easy despite it being in the city, you can just park on the streets for free, and the time limit ranges from 2 hrs and beyond. The people working here are all very nice, patient, and accommodating which we really appreciated. For example, I picked to sit at the bench, but as it was a 37 degree day, the server suggested a table which would allow us better air conditioning. On top of that, we were waiting for our friends, and they were very patient with us with the ordering, and also when we were taking our foodie pics!

With regards to the food, the bagel was really nice. The condiments all went to each other perfectly, and pact a punch of flavour. Only thing is that the salmon itself was pretty salty. That said, the other components balanced it out well, but as a I got given much more salmon in comparison to the spread etc. some bites were saltier than others. But overall, highly recommend this place!

I was looking forward to visiting The Flying Fig, because we always visit Glick's when we are in Melbourne, and there is nothing like it in Adelaide.  The cafe is very pleasant with indoor and outdoor seating, in a quiet but pretty street in leafy North Adelaide.

We ordered bagels (of course) with lox, capers and cream cheese, and another with strawberry and mint jam and cream cheese, with scrambled egg and latkes on the side.  The bagels are made in house, and very nice.  Overall the food had a modern twist with low salt (salt and pepper was available on the table) and a more cafe style presentation.  We drank a home made orange and fennel soft drink which was delicious, and also a very good coffee.  We also ordered toasted cheese on brioche and the honey crepes from the children's menu for a fussy relative, who left rather full.

There is lots to choose from the menu for next time, including brisket or pastrami sandwiches.  We'll be back.

I woke up feeling seedy Sunday morning and needed a sandwich. I heard about this Jewish deli in North Adelaide which apparently did in house pastrami. So we made the trek out. Arrived to find it very busy for Sunday brunch time. We got the last remaining table outside in the sun. Tried to order the Pastrami but apparently we were about an hour too early for it. Wasn't ready. Settled for the Rueben. It was no compromise, the best rueben I've had in Australia. Someone finally got it right. Coffee was nice, ordered a fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, it came out at room temperature (are you mad?!?) we asked for some ice and the older chap looked at me like I asked him to murder his first born. Other than that little hiccup, the a service was decent, the food was even better. Will be back to try their pastrami.

History suggests food businesses that do well are those with original ideas and ones that fill a gap in the market. Paul Serafin, former owner of Stax, decided to open a Jewish Deli after a stint in New York. Using traditional cooking techniques inspired by his travels, house made items such as pickles, pastrami and cured salmon feature on the menu. Customers can choose from a selection of breakfast dishes, bagels, sandwiches and salads. There’s also a range of hot and cold beverages to choose from to help wash it all down.

Came here for lunch 2day and what a delight! :)
Very nice small space with a fantastic menu it was too hard to pick just one thing, I'll need to go back to try it all! Had The Kibbutz- an Israeli Brekky and it was delicious, though I swapped the sardines for the Lox (house made cured salmon) and the bf had The Blinis Platter. Everything is fresh and mostly housemade and just feels good eating it. We spoke to the owner and he gave us a sample of the Pastrami and man its worth going there just to try that! Was well priced and just a lovely ambience. Will most definitely return. :))

This cafe is very interesting and I suspect challenging food choices for some. The food is different and I understand quite authentic. I have been here several times. I find food a bit variable in quality, almost as if there are different cooks with a lack of consistent approach.

Having said this the I have had really delicious things such as blinis and potato cakes (which frankly I could eat for breakfast everyday)! Oh and love the coffee!

Aesthetically feels really good, some waiting staff great, others need a little work! Will be back, I suspect this will be a really popular spot once issues are ironed out!

This location has changed hands a few times but I think they've found a winner. Spacious enough for a pram, two adults and a toddler. Cute seating areas near windows.

Food and drinks wise was great to see not so typical food options. Not just bacon and eggs or eggs florentine. Although I did order the steak sandwich which was absolutely delightful.

Note to any parents who have kids who suffer with egg allergy the toast is a brioche (made with egg) and although it was delicious, didn't find out until our daughter ate half her sandwich. Not a negative experience but could change the menu to state brioche toastie instead of toasted cheese sandwich. But I refused to let the waitress take it back as it was yum! The service was friendly and looked after us after discovering of the allergy.

Overall a very nice place with good food and service to match.

We found this neat little establishment tucked away in the streets of North Adelaide. It was quite a good find. I personally recommend the Reuben sandwich - it is packed with flavours and has a pickle that slices through the saltiness. I have to admit though..it was a pretty mean sandwich! I was hoping that the pickle would have more tangy kick to it but it still did its job. I also tried the egg, salmon and beetroot dish however the flavours weren't unified and could use more seasoning. The prices are a little dear for what you pay for as the portion sizes could be bigger. The Flying Fig is also well known for its coffee so definitely give that a try!

Went here recently and enjoyed the casual atmosphere. Nice ambience inside and a busy vibe. Good quality food with portion sizes on the smaller side. We had a steak sandwich and eggs and potato pancake. Coffee was very good. Table service could be offered rather than the typical Adelaide obsession with having to go to the counter to order and pay. We'll go back.

Its a new cafe in North Adelaide . Parking is not difficult at all as its away from the busy streets. Minimalistic design but cozy. Coffee could be stronger in flavour. Interesting Jewish menu. Took us a long time to decide on food as there were terms that were not familiar to us. Would recommend their salmon which is house cured and also their lakne which is like a hash but better. They house pickled their own produce and also make their own soft drinks. Will definitely try the soft drink the next time i come back.

Covid times: only doing outdoor dining and takeaway food - we can still eat out safely 🙂. Outdoor brunch at @theflyingfigdelica! Always reliable for a good feed. Delicious food 😋😋😋. . Pastrami on Rye: House smoked pastrami with mustard on dark rye. This totally reminds me of the smoked meat sandwiches back in Montreal. Love the pastrami! Tender and full of flavour. So good 🤤🤤🤤. . Brisket Cheese Burger: (grilled) 200 gram aged brisket patty, Monterey Jack cheese, house bread and butter pickles with schug mayonnaise on a brioche bun. If you like a good burger, this definitely hits the spot! Nice tasting patty. Nice fries. . Special of the day - Pastrami Tzimmes with sweet potato, heirloom carrots, asparagus, spiced beetroot, crispy garlic, chilli sauce + dukkah. This was a really delicious dish! The pastrami was amazing as always, and very tasty inside the crepe. . Watermelon, mint, lemon juice with crushed ice: I love anything with watermelon, so this was perfect! Especially on a hot and sunny day 🙂.

We ordered the egg & bacon bagel and french toast. The bagel was delicious. When I had a bite of the FT, I forgot I was in Adelaide! Haha. The flavors brought me to a different place– a beautiful one! It’s the best french toast Ive ever had! The staff are very attentive and friendly. Customer service was great! Will definitely go back here!

The taste of food is different in this cafe. Full range of ingredients and great chefs make the food so great. For sure this cafe has many different meals from the other cafes around the town. So, must pay a visit place! The staff are so friendly and assist the customers with the menu options. There are two reasons I didn't give five stars: 1. Inside of the cafe is a bit packed and as a parent with two little kids, I always concerned about others sitting next to me. 2. The coffee beans were strong, so it didn't sit well with me. All in all, I would definitely go there again, but order my coffee from elsewhere.

This is a great setup. Plenty of indoor seating with some spots available outside on the footpath. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The coffee is great as is the brunch menu. Great combo of lunch and breakfast food on order. The Ruben sandwich is very tasty and is a big draw card. The bagels are awesome and can be purchased in a bag to take home. Home made pickles are also available and are worth a try!! Finding parking is reasonably easy, most parks are only a short 20m walk if you don't get a prime spot. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. Only area for improvement would be asking for drinks/coffee order straight away as most people know what they are after and this can get the ball rolling a bit faster. - edit - this seems to be happening now, awesome!

Fantastic meal at The Flying Fig. A lot of Jewish specialties on offer, they also sell pickled vegetables etc I had the Malawach, a flatbread (reminded me a bit of naan) with poached eggs and a few other things including schug which is a kind of salsa verde. The flavours went well together and if ever in town again I’ll be back to try one of the reubens.
