Unreal. Really hard to explain WHY this place is so good, the concept is pretty quirky and you can't recommend any particular dish because the kitchen changes the menu practically every day. But if you don't mind a bit of adventure, and letting the chefs take the reigns, you're going to have an incredible time. If you're in Adelaide, just go and see for yourself. Guarantee it you'll have a fantastic night.

I think they've brought this place to life the right way, still paying homage to the history of the building. A new concept that hasn't been done in Modern Australian Dining. Food was top quality with fantastic flavours. The staff were friendly, confident and helpful, a good job all round. Max is a charming host and a perfect fit for this place I'd say. Was a privilege to get in for a sneak peek before the opening and you wouldn't think it wasn't polished. All the best for the grand opening!

I usually shy away from hipsters in the same way people run from scary clowns, and when my colleague suggested a visit to The Henry Austin, my first reaction was profuse sweating and an uncontrollable, nervous laugh. How wrong I was! The ambience of the restaurant is redolent of cosy tradition, and downstairs is their wine cellar and bar. The bar area seemed a little sparse and too minimalist for me, but perhaps a visit on a busy after-work evening will remedy this impression. We selected the banquet and was introduced an almost endless procession of tapas-style plates so delicious and interesting that it was entertainment in itself. Wine list was a surprise. I expected a whole bunch of expensive bottles, but was instead greeted by a thoughtful collection of reasonably priced wines. Their house wine is also certainly worth a glass or two. Maybe three if you're not driving. Go on, have a fourth. Service was impeccable. The owner bounces around with the enthusiasm of a puppy on its first walk in the sunshine. The star of the evening, however, remains our German waitress. Beautifully professional, her exquisite charms will remain with me for a long time. Ich bin verliebt.

Just had dinner here tonight and it was one of the best dining experience have ever had. Did the $65 menu which isn't a menu, more of a surprise for each dish and couldn't have been more happy with the creativity and flavours! Great service from everyone who served us and impressed with the SA gin range. Highly recommended

Came to play off the back of a friend's recommendation and we were not disappointed. Quirky place with quirky staff with a wacky way to order food = fun and flavour. My only disappointment is the next time I come play the menu will be completely different and I won't get to eat everything I loved this visit!!! Can't wait to introduce this place to friends.

The food is next level sensational. Chefs and anyone in the industry could learn a lot from dining here. You experience a food combination that leaves you blown away and you view these artistic chefs (and their food is art) with the utmost respect.

I enjoyed a great night out at The Henry Austin recently and will be back for more. The food was excellent and I love that you can choose an affordable wine by browsing through a carefully curated selection of drops unlikely to be on a shelf at Dan Murphy's. The staff were helpful and genuine in their enthusiasm. It's amazing what a sympathetic and subtle renovation has done to the old place. It's lost none of it's club-like ambience and olde worlde charm but looks fresh. Great work guys!

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! It is clear that many of hours of creative thought have gone into producing this masterpiece. From an exciting selection of wine, especially for us as we are always looking for new and interesting gems of which the Chesser Cellar has an abundance of, to the beautiful presentation of the food not to mention the use of Australian native foods such as muntrie berries. Seamless service, timing between courses was perfect to appreciate the full array of flavours in each dish. A chat with Max at the end of our meal was lovely and showed us just how passionate he is about providing an experience that is truly unique. Love it!

Loved it so much I couldn't even wait to get home before writing this :) Amazing food, service and experience. We loved handing over the decision making and letting the wonderful team serve us incredible dishes all night paired with wine from their beautiful underground cellar, that we were invited to visit and choose from. Highly recommended! Love Bec & Mike

What a fabulous night we were privileged to enjoy, and what enticing promise there is here. Delicious, well-thought dishes and the most heartening attitude from Max and staff. Hospitality indeed. ...and the 'see before you decide' yum cha concept? Oh. Yes. Please. Can I buy a stool at the feed me bar? Can I 'bear' the wait to come again?!

Wow. A truly exceptional dining experience. I say 'experience' because a night at The Henry Austin is much more than a meal. The 'Australian tapas' idea is the perfect way to showcase local produce in a way that doesn't force you to choose between a menu of dishes, each more enticing than the next. Each course is beautifully prepared and staggered in such a way that the night meanders along at a pace perfectly suited to conversation and pontification; assisted by an extensive wine selection sold at retail prices from the downstairs cellar. Staff are attentive, friendly and obviously invested in making your meal as delightful as possible. While on the pricey side, The Henry Austin delivers and feels worth every cent. Do yourself a favour and make a booking. Ceviche prawn was my pick for best dish.

Fantastic new years eve dining. Tuna tartare, oyster and chicken liver parfait set the tone as starters and the experience just got better and better. Using local produce and quirky ingredients such as coastal fig to match the main components in amusing and delicious ways. The only thing I could fault them on, if I had to, was one of the nori crackers was slightly soggy due to the wealth of tuna and avocado on it. I will be recommending all my friends to head down and sample the menu and drinks. The downstairs bar is quiet and undersubsribed, at least when we were there. It was perfect for a post dinner libation and conversation. Friendly staff and a few rare/extict malts behind the bar. We didn't explore the wine cellar but, I certainly plan to when they reopen in 2017.

Exciting modern Australian "yum cha" dining. Waiters bring trays with plates for you to choose. Each plate offers new taste and texture sensations. Chicken liver and chicken heart patfait on paper thin crispy fried chicken skin? Yes please! Beautiful modern plating. A great selection of wines to pair with this experience. hidden gem inside an old pub in an alleyway. Highly recommended

Beautiful place, beautiful food. Good service. A bit on the pricy side (it's worth it mind you). The yum cha style makes the dishes a tad small and the wait between them was of course longer than in a standard restaurant. Overall I enjoyed my evening there and will go again, but if you're a big eater or in a rush, take those factors in consideration.
