This place serves up a very good hot chocolate. Always go past their back door and enter their terrace which gives such a calm feeling to a nice time.
They're apparently famous for their sweets, but I didn't try it out. Yet their drinks had no complaint as it was good.
Yum indeed. Peanut butter brownie crepe was awesome. The rocher waffle was OK - was hoping for it to be crispier. Great customer service though.
Great sweet goodness here and nice matcha lattes. Service from the girl is a bit slow, she stuffed up a couple of times. But the food was great and that’s what we came for!
This place is so far one of the best dessert place in town! Why? They have atleast 15 different type of hot chocolates and their dessert creations were picture perfect! They all taste amazing too!!
Also I like the vibe of the place. It feels like you're at home on a rainy cold day while sipping their hot chocolate and devouring their freshly made waffles.Ugh it's the best! It's a must try !!!!!
Amazing staff! Very fast and very friendly. Last time I went, I ordered the crepes with strawberry and ice cream. The chocolate drizzle was to die for. Price is a bit high, but very worth in my opinion. Will be coming back for the waffles too
Went here with my partner tonight for date night. Usually the service is very quick, however it took over 30 minutes of waiting for our single fondue before we decided to leave. Personally, we'd like to commend and thank the manager on his efforts this evening, despite how busy and understaffed he clearly was. He served us with enthusiasm, and was very understanding when we asked for a refund.
Took away a White chocolate macadamia cheesecake. It was not bad. Rather dense, though, and not as creamy as I had hoped. I suspect it may not have been that fresh. Nonetheless it was still tasty and would no doubt satisfy a sweet tooth.
Friendly people working there. Food was nice, ordered the waffles with strawberries and chocolate. I feel like every time I go there, the prices slightly go up and the serving sizes go down. Don't think I'd go again, very average overall.
I remember Chocolatree being more enjoyable last time I visited. The hot chocolates are still fantastic - hazelnut praline FTW! - but my Salted Caramel Sundae left a lot to be desired. Those white chocolate brownie pieces were quite unpleasant, and the fudge far too thick to scrape off the inside of my glass. My friend's Creme Pot was the better of the two, without blowing us away.
I'll be sure to stick with waffles and hot chocolate should I return.
Made plans to meet friends after dinner for coffee and desert.
The choice was Chocolatree, we thought the name was "The Chocolate Tree" so could not find it in Zomato, Google to the rescue.
As the football was on at Adelaide Oval I thought the parking would be a challenge but it only took a few minutes to find a park.
It was very cold and the tables out the front were subject to the cold breezes and inside looked full but to our surprise there was a larger dining area out the back. It was well shelters and had a number of gas heaters (wall mounted and freestanding amongst the tables).
The staff were very nice particularly those taking the orders, the waiters could have been better, they just placed the items on the table without trying to give them to the person who preferred the item.
The selection of deserts is very good with a bias towards chocolate as you would expect.
I had a jasmine green tree which was nice and a citrus juice mix (do love free juice). The sticky date was my selection which was tasted good but was small compared to the other deserts I saw on the night. Michele had an Eton mess that looked great. Michele enjoyed her hot chocolate.
We all had different deserts and all were happy, also ordered a few "cakes" from the display cabinet, my favourite was the citrus tart but the was a heart shaped raspberry cake that has a very unusual texture with intense flavours.
In summary a good end to the night, I will be back.
Amazing hot chocolate. Have to try the chocolate indulgence and you can even choose if you want it in milk, white or dark chocolate. I ve tried the cakes n the lemon tart and was not too impressed but you can't miss the hot chocolate.
Drinks are good and desserts are good too. I really enjoy their creme brûlée and often have the fondue with friends. I love their outdoor seating as the atmosphere is very lovely and sitting out there at night is beautiful. Their chocolate truffles aren't wow, but their desserts are better.
This is one of the first dessert bars that I've been to in Adelaide and till this day remains my most frequented. I'm by no means a fan of chocolate but they have a huge range of other desserts to choose from. A lot of them are a bit sweet so if you're watching out for sugar maybe opt for the less sweet homemade teas instead.
Amazing hot chocolate and they must do the best waffles in town!
The waffles are so fresh and sl. crispy on outside without that oil flavour you often get with waffles.
Their hot chocolate is up with the best too. Nice & rich without being over-powering or sickly like some others.
Prices are good too compared to some dessert/chocolate places that are a bit rich (pun)
Nice to have the different dining areas - alfresco on footpath/ indoors or rear courtyard
After dinner on a Fri or Sat night this is a great place to end your night. Great coventure chocolate drinks and truffles to choose from. Desserts and fondue fit the atmosphere, waffles, crepes and Milk Hot Chocolate are a must try to fulfill that sweet tooth.
Love this place, today was my first time there and the service was great and our orders came out pretty quick. I ordered the Macadima Carmel and it came out with two spoons even though we didn't ask for it... OH My God it tasted amazing... Would love to bring my partner here so he can try their amazing treats. Well priced as well.. Congratulations
This has to be my favourite place for hot chocolate and waffles so far!! A small place but totally cosy and has an outdoor area which come with blankets if ur feeling cold.
For chocolate lovers this is just so much sweet deliciousness in one place and most of the time on one plate! My fave is the rocky road waffle for sure- waffle with melted chocolate, marshmallows, strawberries, vanilla icecream and topped with slivered almonds then complete with a milk hot chocolate & I'm in a chocolate coma! When I crave chocolate bad this is the place for sure! 😁👌
A typical dessert bar with all sorts of waffles, crepes, fondue ect. Quite a small building for a very popular location, it can get quite busy but the place is nicely decorated and there is seating outside out the back where they have some heaters and offer blankets.
I used to come here quite often (before being vegan) and enjoyed every experience (minus the sick feeling afterwards, haha) the food was delicious! Especially the waffles! I wouldn't recommend ordering a hot chocolate alongside your dessert though, I found it becomes too sweet, chocolate-y, sickly and overpowering... rookie mistake!

One of the best places for chocolate lovers in Adelaide! Tried their crepe, waffle and banana cake. TASTY! Always really busy even on weekdays.
the best hot chocolate are here and there are so many combinations to choose from!! The hazelnut one is the best as it tastes like liquid nutella!! The waffles or sundaes are the best desserts to get and very satisfying and filling! great prices too. Always busy here so you know its good!

one of the best dessert places in Adelaide! warm atmosphere and friendly staff! highly recommended for a dessert with a loved one! my favorite is the strawberry waffles and a hot chocolate!
Let me start with the fact that I am not a big chocolate fan, but my wife is. I been here yesterday and tried their Rocky Road Waffle, Bruschetta Sour dough toast, and Fresh Mint Hot Chocolate.
I loved all the three items I tried and would like to recommend this place to all chocolate lovers.
Went early one morning before indulging in some retail...sensational coffee, good service and the waffles were amazing.
Delicious. Had the best coffee and malteesa cheesecake with my daughter. Scrummy, excellent service. Will definately be going bavk!!❤❤
Hazelnut chocolate. Hot hazelnut chocolate is the best in chocolatree. If they can reduce a bit of sugar I am sure it will taste much better.
Delicious and cosy. Curled up on the orange couch with a book and a chocolate chai. Cute decor, friendly staff.
Absolutely excellent for brunch, lunch, dinner or dessert. Especially for the chocoholics out there!
Very nice desserts there, should definitely try out crepes and stack waffles, can't stop thinking of these desserts all the time. Price is definitely reasonable, very nice customers service, surely will visit all the time
Lovely coffee and sweets. Very friendly staff also. Can't wait to go back.
Nice atmosphere. Really nice space out the back and good atmosphere. The drinks and food aren't nearly as good as, say, Chocolate Bean or Chocolat on Rundle Street, but if you're in North Adelaide it's a nice place for a late night chat.
Think about it all the time.... Have been twice so far and both times had the Chocolate Heaven. I will definitely go back again and keep ordering this as it's just so, so, SO amazing. Everything I love in a dessert and in my opinion couldn't be better. Did have a weird experience the first time I went there though - my friend tried to order an iced chocolate with soy milk as she's lactose intolerant, and the chef refused point-blank (twice) on the basis that "it wouldn't taste as good with soy milk". Errr okay? Not really your call chef man - would you prefer your customers hog the single toilet instead? We were there for a special function so didn't walk out, but we didn't get the drink with soy milk! Other than that, the place is great.
Amazing Place to have Waffles and Hot Chocolate. I have been a regular visitor to this place for past 6 months and I must say they serve the best Belgian waffles and hot chocolates in the city. The staff are very friendly, and they always smile at the customer. At busy nights especially Saturday nights service is a bit slow, but I guess its the same case everywhere. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves their chocolate.
Food was yum and service was good but the restaurant needs a good clean and dusting.
Great Waffles. I loooove the waffles here. Some of the other desserts are a bit hit and miss (the brownie didn't taste fresh to me), but you can't go wrong with the waffles or crepes. And they serve the most delicious chocolatey hot chocolates.
Has potential. I quite like the menu and desserts but the place needs a really good clean and goodness only knows what the state of the kitchen is. Crying out for a renovation and tidy up and while they're at it, more staff with a better attitude! Always full, though, so I guess they figure why bother?

Would Come Again. I enjoyed my experience at Chocolatree, despite it being a bit expensive. I ordered The Chocolatree which was a dessert pizza containing ice-cream, chocolate, strawberries, marshmallows, Turkish delight and dried apricots. It was nice but incredibly difficult to cut with the knife that I was given.
I found the staff friendly and helpful. I needed advice on whether to get a milk, white or dark iced chocolate and the gentleman who served me assisted with my decision.
They are in the Entertainment Book so we got a discount which was good. It wasn't very busy when I went (about 6:30pm on a Friday) so I found the atmosphere relaxed and pleasant. I will be back again to try something else on their very extensive dessert menu.
Recommended. Lovely atmosphere, fast & friendly service, and very nice waffles & hot chocolate. Highly recommended.
I'll be back again and again. So, I heard many good things about this place from friends and finally got the chance to check it out the other week. I was impressed as soon as I walked in, it was a funky little cafe in the front with a display cabinet of chocolates and cake, and outside in the back courtyard it was nice and warm with fairy lights and shared tables amongst a more intimate settings for smaller groups.
I ordered the waffles with icecream, strawberries and melted chocolate. It was delicious, and the perfect serving size. I couldn't have eat en anything more. But what I loved the most was the Chilled Hot Chocolate. This was a hot chocolate made with dark chocolate and mint. It was amazing, like drinking an Arnott's Tim Tam. I recommended my selection to a friend who went the following week and ordered the exact same thing and loved it.
Love the german apple cheesecake. Hot chocolates are nice but overly sweet. Lattes are good.
Such a lovely little dessert place that everyone must try. A group of friends came here to chat after dinner and to have dessert. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced. Their hot drinks list is very intriguing and delicious. The staff are friendly. And the outdoor seating is so relaxed and the perfect way to finish an evening. I especially like the complimentary rugs to drape across your lap for chilly nights.
A little bit expensive but to be expected in Oconnell street, unlike the other reviewers here I have a sweet tooth as I love white chocolate cake, I only had a hot white chocolate and butterscotch but found it to my liking
Yummy. Came here last weekend after having a awesome night at Sparrow for a birthday. even though we had dessert already, it was a cool night and we wanted hot chocolate. had not been before and very impressed with everything. very pretty lights in the back and we were warmed up by sipping delicious chocolatey drinks. we were so full so didn't order any food, but there is a window full of amazing chocolates and cakes so will definitely be back to sample very soon. was a great way to finish our night and will definitely be back. yum!
Really enjoyed the hot chocolate. Worth a visit.
Belgian waffle yummmmm *drools* sticky date pudding ............. Dry, burnt, Microwaved for too long ... Ewww and I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it twice .. Third time lucky?
I like it!. I've been to Chocolatree three times now - and it's amusing to note just how many females flock to this place! Girls and chocolate, they certaintly go hand in hand!
The food is good. The first time I ordered a mudslide which was good, and the second and third times i've been i've ordered the Choc Banana waffles which are wonderful.
Definitely a place to take your partner for a sweet end to the night :)
Delicious. The waffle's and chocolate frappe's are delicious, i would definitely go back.
Beautiful and great value for money. We will be back. Life's too short to be skinny.
On this occasion we tried the Some like it hot in dark chocolate, Butterscotch hot chocolate in white chocolate, German apple cheesecake, Mudslide and Belgian waffle.
The food and hot chocolates here are divine.
The cafe itself inside has a good amount of seating but isn't huge. But they have seating out front and also out back in the enclosed "garden" area.
They have a LOT of flavours of hot chocolate so if you're looking for something other than just plain choc flavour, I highly suggest the choc mint and butterscotch.
The desserts are yummy, well priced and they don't drown them in too much chocolate so it's decadent without being sickly.
Highly recommended.
Loved the place and super friendly staff.
The mocha was really nice, excellent taste, the cheesecake? Wow! Just delectable! Thanks Nima ad Mahgol for introducing this exquisite café
Cheers Mona and Ali 😊
I'd recommend other fellow sweet tooths to this venue, great chocolate crepes and well priced hot chocolates (giant mugs).
First time visiting and impressed with the food & its presentation! I ordered a Rocky rode waffle and it was great! Plus the menu has variety of range to choose from waffles to crepes! However, the more lighting in the dinning area will be great as it was dull lights coming on the table!
Always great service and great food if you want a coffee or sweets. Only down fall I found is the fairy floss has been removed off of the candy bar crepe but apart from that all good. However now edited since first review and fairy floss can be added once again making it a superb dessert
Yummy with lovely service too! My friend and I really enjoyed the Smash It which we both had (guacamole, feta & dukkah on toasted sourdough) - really good! And both happy with our nutty latte and mocha. I’d come back here for sure 😀
