The square in question is Whitmore and the thinking is outside the square. It offers you a chance to eat well and do some good. Either you can add $5 to your bill and buy a meal for a homeless person or spend $15 on the "Hearty meal of the day" and buy your own and two more serves for people to have dinner that night.
The food itself is good. The menu is full of deliciousness and there are specials on the board. I had the soup of the day, a Thai Pumpkin soup that came with a big slab of toasted bread. Full of lemongrass and coconut and a solid amount of chilli and with kaffir lime leaves it was excellent, if nose wateringly spiced.
Coffee was excellent, service was charming and the setting was, well, Greek. Many years ago this building was a Greek restaurant called, if I remember, The Aegean, and it still has the white roughcast walls . There's street seating and a courtyard and leather armchairs and it's all remarkably comfortable and homely. Prices are more than reasonable.
Recommended.
Came here for breakfast as my husband, brother in law and I were leaving the city. Food was really good and didn’t take long to come either. Coffee was also good so got another for the road. Also liked what they do for charities and feeding homeless people in the area. Service was good and lady at the counter was friendly. If we are in the area again, would definitely come back.
Tasty food, good coffee, will be back. Live gentle music was appreciated too. They are also very supportive of local artists and our other small business.
