My friend and I have been here for several times. The food here is absolutely delicious and love the friendly staff as well. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for some authentic Japanese food.

Sato has a friendly atmosphere and a solid menu of choice. That said is suited well to a 2-4 person table and not well suited to larger parties - and you should book ahead!
I recommend the dumplings (gyoza). They have a lovely range of traditional rice wine too.
Service can be slow when the restaurant is full - but that should not surprise experienced diners.
A family birthday celebration bought us to Sato. They have Japanese and western seating options. The staff were all pleasant and very helpful. Sato has a decent wine list which was good. We tried a variety of dishes including the beef and fish sashimi - both excellent. Tempura - very good. The gyoza were tasty enough as was the okonomiyaki and katsu. The chicken kaarage could have been crispier and spicier. Not the best Japanese restaurant around but worth a visit if on Melbourne street and have a hankering for Japanese food.
Dinner for 5. Two of my friends had never tried edamame so it was a delight to order some very morish Sato edamame for them. We also got a large bottle of house sake which again they had never tried. I found it all too easy to drink. My friends ordered a plate of tempura vegetables to share and there was a large range of vegetables in the crisp tempura. My picky vegetarian tweenie even had some.
Her main meal was Avocado Salad Roll which she ate the lot of, except one piece which fell apart. She gave me her pickled ginger, which was the BEST EVER, and the waiter was kind enough to show me the packet so I could buy the same brand for myself.
I like to order something I haven't tried, and as a vegetarian, there aren't many choices in a Japanese restaurant. I had green tea soup (Nori Chazuke) which was full of rice with seaweed on top. It was delicious and salty but I wasn't hungry enough to eat the rice. A greater ratio of soup to rice would have suited me.
The meat-eaters shared Pork Katsu and Beef Shogayaki, and declared the beef the better of the two.
The small but comfortable restaurant (we were in a booth) was fairly full this weeknight (I had booked a couple of hours ahead), the staff were smiling and friendly and the service timely.
Nice food. We really enjoyed our visit to sato, especially the yakitori chicken. Very comfortable surrounds and decent prices
I've been to Wasai, Genki Sushi Bar (New one) and Ginza restaurant since late August. As a Japanese, I must say that SATO is the best. Food is very fresh and they handle ingredients very properly with respect and warm heart. We had an awesome evening.
Food was very nice, service was good with food bought out in an appropriate time. Staff were nice. Will go back.
Great :). A friend had promised that this was her fave Japanese spot and I have to agree that it was pretty good. We had a banquet which meant 3 courses. Serving size was good and service was okay, our waiter looked a bit lost when we asked for 'no mussels can we have extra broccoli instead?', no mistakes were made and our meals came out quickly. A good night for all of us.
Great service, had finished my starter and had already been asked if I was ready for dessert. Complimentary offerings were very welcome. Food was fresh and we didn't leave disappointed, highly recommend it. "Shimoshei", still can't go past sushi train though, sato very close 2nd
Love the tempura. Everything was good (ordered tempura, takoyaki, sashimi, udon) except the greentea ice cream...no greentea taste at all!!!
Delicious food with the reasonable price! Cozy and nice moods, especially I feel like their lunch time and the dinner time had different moods which means you should visit there in both lunch and dinner time to enjoy this restaurant fully. Also the staff is nice all the time I visited. Love here. :)
Small family run restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Staff still remembered me after being a year away. Go for banquet option A which adds starters, rice, miso soup and ice cream to your choice of the menu. The sake is a bargain! Thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Best authentic Japanese restaurant in Adelaide. It is like a home 🏡, foods are great all the times and great customer service. I highly recommend.
Enjoyed the bento very much. The owner n staff were very polite. Small place and it got filled up fast, so it's best to book table prior going. Price is very reasonable and food tasted good. Will go back again.
AMAZING! This family owned business is simply awesome. I ate here three nights in a row, just to try different dishes! LOL. Sashimi and agedashi tofu was brilliant; eel with soba noodles was simply amazing. First place I will have dinner on my next visit to Adelaide. 😎🏆👊
I had an unagi bento and sashimi & tempura bento, every single item was delicious, I love authentic Japanese food, thanks for putting your heart in cooking.
