Asian Gourmet has been in the same place serving the same food for years and never has a spare table because the food is amazing! The laksa is definitely the go-to dish here and bowls are constantly coming out of the kitchen. The broth has got a lot of love in it and is really full flavoured.
This place hasn’t changed one bit since I first starting coming here many years ago. The food is made fresh because there’s such high turnover of patrons enjoying the amazing fare on offer. I love their kwey teow and laksa. Nothing fancy, just good tasty food done well. There can be a big t of a wait for a table at times but be patient, it’s worth it.
They say that some things aren't meant to change and in a world of seemingly constant change, it's nice to sometimes revert back to what you know. Creature comforts are important - they make us feel at home and well comfortable. And nothing could be more comforting than tucking into your favorite dish in your old home town....
Best service,Best laksa,Best everything. I am a chef myslef and travell all the way into city just for the amazimg laksa turn around and go home. Worth every cent. Absolutely love the place and get treated like a true customer. Thanks guys as today they were closed but still went out of there way to serve not just myself but another 5 peoole whom walked in 10 minutes after me.keep up the good work.
Always excellent. Best Laksa in Adelaide by a long way. Worth waiting in line for.
Try the Kway Teow as that is also very well made and tasty for such a simple dish.
Lunchtime on a Tuesday with a mate. I like the simple choices on the menu. Ordering pretty matter of fact service and found a seat, with the table wiped clean soon after seating! Busy place so its about speed. Thai curry chicken for me and it was yummo. Tender and moist chicken, generous portions of mushrooms, with the sauce soaking well through the rice. Curry, curry, curry meant warmth in the belly. Generous serving which is fair for the $11.50 price. II'll be back another day!
Chicken Hokkien Mee. Best noodles in Adelaide!
Magical Laksas. "This secret laksa recipe has been passed down for at least one generation, and its magical healing properties are well known; making Adelaide the laksa capital of Adelaide. You get a laksa, and you get a laksa...everyone gets a laksa!!" - Oprah, 2014. There was a laksa under every chair, and ol' Winfrey caused a riot.
Without a doubt, the best, most addictive, and unique laksa I have ever laksa'd.
A visit to the central markets & to Asian Gourmet, the decor is a plastic themed & service is not top notch but who cares when the food is absolutely delicious, affordable & generous portions.
Well now..... I remember going here about 20 years ago and thinking that this was about as exotic as food could possibly get in Adelaide... Going here made you feel as if you were being a bit daring.
Went there recently and thought it was sort of tired, still doing the same stuff and yes, still doing it well, but no longer the bees knees. For starters laksa and Hokien mee are hardly exotic any more and there are plenty of other players - even in the market surrounds - who are doing it as well or better. Wander into the "new" food court and there you are.
And the novelty of dealing with the fearsome lady at the counter could wear thin very quickly.
An absolute classic. Asian Gourmet has been here for decades and there's really no guessing why once you sit down to eat - it's cheap, it's quick and it's the best laksa and kway teow I've found in the markets, so possibly Adelaide! Other dishes on the menu, such as Nonya chicken, have been recommended by others but I've never been able to get passed the combo laksa or kway teow. Well worth the (short) wait for a table if necessary. Not fine dining but 9/10 for excellent hawker food. Very highly recommended.
Try the Hokkien Me!. I've been coming to this place since I was a little boy. Don't come for service, don't come for the cutlery - come for the food. Always fast, never expensive and always tasty.
Cheap and delicious. The place to eat on a Friday night in the Central Market. A restaurant that lacks in variety, but makes up for it in excellence. The classic Malaysian dishes shine, whilst the venue buzzes with that Market atmosphere that we all know and love. A perfect location, and a simple, and delectable menu makes Asian Gourmet a must try restaurant.
The standout dishes include Singapore Laksa, Hokkien Mee, Nonya Chicken, and Chicken Rice. The consistency, and efficiency of the staff is refreshing and being family owned the staff are familiar with many of the regular patrons.
The only downfall of Asian Gourmet is the takeaway service. The meals that are prepared for the takeaway containers and for home re-heating are not put together with as much care and this is noticeable and re-occurant. A word of advice is to not bother ordering to take out, it is worth waiting for a table and Asian Gourmet is an establishment that offers quick and convenient eating. Very affordable and addictive.
New love: a classic eating spot in the Adelaide Central Market called Asian Gourmet. This place has been a family run, Adelaide institution for over 35 years. We were a bit late to the party, but now we're hooked. You can find Asian Gourmet inside the markets directly across from Camera House. They're open 6 days (closed Sundays) opening at 9:30 or 10:30am each day. Closing times vary from 3-5pm depending on the day and they stay open on Friday nights until 9pm. Seating is available both inside and outside the shop. The signature dish at Asian Gourmet is the Singapore Laksa ($9.50). The lime green bowl looks quite small, but it comes packed full of goodness - prawns, fried tofu, shredded chicken, bean sprouts, coconut cream, egg noodles and more. It's bigger than it looks and sure to satisfy. I haven't found a better laksa anywhere else in Adelaide. Beware though that the standard amount of chili is on the hot side so some may wish to ask for mild. It's hard to go past the Singapore La
Very down to earth, no frills eatery that can quickly send out a meal on your limited time lunch break. A stalwart of the markets
Ohhh! Asian Gourmet in the Adelaide Central Market. Now living thousands of miles away, but an obligatory stop every time I visit! The standard hasn't changed in the 40 years I've been going there. It's dowdy decor does nothing to detract from the amazing food. I'm so delighted it's still there.
An institution in the central markets. There are a few dishes to try, but Laksa is the staple. Delicious, comes with a little sambal on top. The real deal.
Very delicious laksa noodle.
Thank you for your service :)
The food is the only reason you go here. And it’s worth it. Laksa is one of the best I’ve had in SA with the exception of Roll On Bower. Staff are pleasant and to the point (you came here to eat, not have an intellectual conversation, right?) Prices are reasonable based on quality and portion size. Will be coming back again for sure.
Laksa here is yummy even though it’s used to be a bit better
