Asian Gourmet has been in the same place serving the same food for years and never has a spare table because the food is amazing! The laksa is definitely the go-to dish here and bowls are constantly coming out of the kitchen. The broth has got a lot of love in it and is really full flavoured.
This place hasn’t changed one bit since I first starting coming here many years ago. The food is made fresh because there’s such high turnover of patrons enjoying the amazing fare on offer. I love their kwey teow and laksa. Nothing fancy, just good tasty food done well. There can be a big t of a wait for a table at times but be patient, it’s worth it.
They say that some things aren't meant to change and in a world of seemingly constant change, it's nice to sometimes revert back to what you know. Creature comforts are important - they make us feel at home and well comfortable. And nothing could be more comforting than tucking into your favorite dish in your old home town....
Best service,Best laksa,Best everything. I am a chef myslef and travell all the way into city just for the amazimg laksa turn around and go home. Worth every cent. Absolutely love the place and get treated like a true customer. Thanks guys as today they were closed but still went out of there way to serve not just myself but another 5 peoole whom walked in 10 minutes after me.keep up the good work.
Always excellent. Best Laksa in Adelaide by a long way. Worth waiting in line for.
Try the Kway Teow as that is also very well made and tasty for such a simple dish.
Lunchtime on a Tuesday with a mate. I like the simple choices on the menu. Ordering pretty matter of fact service and found a seat, with the table wiped clean soon after seating! Busy place so its about speed. Thai curry chicken for me and it was yummo. Tender and moist chicken, generous portions of mushrooms, with the sauce soaking well through the rice. Curry, curry, curry meant warmth in the belly. Generous serving which is fair for the $11.50 price. II'll be back another day!
Chicken Hokkien Mee. Best noodles in Adelaide!
Magical Laksas. "This secret laksa recipe has been passed down for at least one generation, and its magical healing properties are well known; making Adelaide the laksa capital of Adelaide. You get a laksa, and you get a laksa...everyone gets a laksa!!" - Oprah, 2014. There was a laksa under every chair, and ol' Winfrey caused a riot.
Without a doubt, the best, most addictive, and unique laksa I have ever laksa'd.
A visit to the central markets & to Asian Gourmet, the decor is a plastic themed & service is not top notch but who cares when the food is absolutely delicious, affordable & generous portions.
Well now..... I remember going here about 20 years ago and thinking that this was about as exotic as food could possibly get in Adelaide... Going here made you feel as if you were being a bit daring.
Went there recently and thought it was sort of tired, still doing the same stuff and yes, still doing it well, but no longer the bees knees. For starters laksa and Hokien mee are hardly exotic any more and there are plenty of other players - even in the market surrounds - who are doing it as well or better. Wander into the "new" food court and there you are.
And the novelty of dealing with the fearsome lady at the counter could wear thin very quickly.
Very down to earth, no frills eatery that can quickly send out a meal on your limited time lunch break. A stalwart of the markets
Ohhh! Asian Gourmet in the Adelaide Central Market. Now living thousands of miles away, but an obligatory stop every time I visit! The standard hasn't changed in the 40 years I've been going there. It's dowdy decor does nothing to detract from the amazing food. I'm so delighted it's still there.
An institution in the central markets. There are a few dishes to try, but Laksa is the staple. Delicious, comes with a little sambal on top. The real deal.
Very delicious laksa noodle.
Thank you for your service :)
The food is the only reason you go here. And it’s worth it. Laksa is one of the best I’ve had in SA with the exception of Roll On Bower. Staff are pleasant and to the point (you came here to eat, not have an intellectual conversation, right?) Prices are reasonable based on quality and portion size. Will be coming back again for sure.
Laksa here is yummy even though it’s used to be a bit better
