Went for a Sunday lunch as usual. Very attentive servers, perhaps a tad too attentive, can I read the menu before you start to hover. But that is not a bad thing I suppose, better than being ignored. Had the pork schnitzel on the bone with warm potato salad with chorizo. Absolutely delicious could not be more tender and juicy. Salad just the right touch to dispel any oiliness from the crumb. Best schnitzel I have had for a while. Wife had lemon chicken and artichoke salad, again beautifully done. Definitely on our to do list again. Well done.
Reviews can be misleading. I visited the Maylands for a working lunch with a couple of business contacts. I didn't pick the venue but once told where we were going checked it out on Urbanspoon so I was thinking that it was going to be a fairly crappy lunch.
I was simply wrong. Got there a little early and had a quiet drink waiting for the others. Nice layout, good looking dining room - and that evil gambling palace (?) well it was housed in its own room and I didn't even notice it till I went looking.
Menu and selection of dishes was good. The staff friendly and efficient. If I wanted to be incredibly picky perhaps they waited a bit too long to take our order but then there was much talking and discussion at our table. Quality of the dishes was fine - we didn't look at wines and only one member of the party had desert but no-one had any complaints. Ok they weren't crackingly busy - perhaps only 5 or 6 other tables and a party in their 'meeting room' but I saw nothing to support the negative reviews here.
Yep - I'll go again. Good food - not perhaps worthy of 3 Michelin stars but it's a pub folks so keep it in perspective. Good staff, good food, good lunch!
Fantastic. I really enjoyed my experience at the Maylands Hotel. I arrived after 8pm. Ordered the Chicken Kiev with blue vein cheese. It was delicious!
First time at the hotel and will be back for sure.
Good experience. Decided to give the maylands on a whim one night and I was very pleased. Just ordered 2 schnitzels, but for the first time I ever I got one that didn't taste like it came straight out of the freezer, the bread crumbs were fresh and the schnitzel was a nice thickness. The pepper sauce was one of the nicest I've every had, again it wasn't just a packet mix. Chips and side salad were good too. Not sure why this has so many negative reviews.
A real Gem. My Husband and I recently dined here (Dinner on a Thursday night) and I felt compelled to submit a review based on all the horrible ones I read. Whilst I'm sure they don't get it right all the time we believe that some credit is due here. Frankly we couldn't fault the place. The service was prompt and courteous. I had the Barramundi and my Husband had the steak. both meals were well cooked and thoroughly delicious. We finished with the cheese platter and coffees. The only suggestion we had for this restaurant is that their wine list could be a little more diverse. We took the opportunity to note this on the feedback sheet that our waitress provided with the bill and look forward to seeing how this is followed up next time we visit. Overall a delightful meal in a beautiful restaurant.
Engagement in the function room. Good food great atmosphere all our family were very happy. At 6 o'clock they quickly prepared for 40 for dinner
all orders food and drinkks were good
great place
What a great pub. Beautiful decore, great service, terrific food, I can whole heartedly recommend the aged eye fillet.
Went to dinner with my husband on a Sat night. We didn't have a booking but the staff offered us a seat at the bar to wait for a table. We thought the staff were very attentive, they continually checked in with us and let us know as soon as a table was ready. The food was lovely and a great atmosphere in the adult dining area, which can be hard to find at a pub these days. Overall we had a great evening. It literally felt like we were out at a 5 star restaurant. Once again the staff were fantastic, very very good at their jobs :)

Dont Judge A Book By Its Cover. I feel that walking into this establishment I was in a movie. The decor is amazing and the renovations have been carried out with care and real elegance.
But the food does not match the ambiance. The staff are friendly and well groomed but the pit fall is that the high volume of turn over. I would recommend this establishment would limit the number of tables and concentrate more on each meal and its presentation.
Who garnishes with parsley these days?
Price is not an issue, if you want to go out and enjoy yourself, then pay the money and have the experience.
Class in the 'burbs :-). I have to say that this place has always been a fave of mine even before the renovation(s). Now it's been "tarted" up without losing it's old charm. The food is great pub food without pretending to be something it's not and charging for it. The ambience (in both the bar and the lower restaurant) is warming and comforting. Whilst the staff aren't the most memorable, they perform their jobs efficiently and without attitude. Thumbs up for The Maylands

One of the oldest hotels in the Eastern suburbs, The Maylands hotel goes all the way back to 1883. I guess it has gone through a lot of changes, renovations etc. As with most hotels, there is often a formal dining area and one section for the pub. Maylands hotel was no exception. There was a fancy dining area in the restaurant for family dining and another area for adults only (kids free).
The Maylands Hotel in Phillis Street Maylands, has a fine restaurant called Philtons. It has attentive table service and an extensive menu. Best of all, they have a jazz band on Friday and Saturday nights, The Mintons Jazz Quartet ...
Had dinner here with 7 people last week. The renovations have made a big improvement to the look and feel of the dining room and eating areas. We were very impressed. Also the staff provided excellent service throughout the night. I feel the food has been taken up a notch. As there were 2 vegans at the dinner, we were pleased that there were a lot more vegan choices than before. The meals all round were generous and tasty. Would definitely recommend.
Really don’t know why this place has any bad reviews. I am a regular at this pub and the food has always been fantastic! Been here more than 15X and the experience has ALWAYS been great. Service is consistently awesome. Dishes are always perfectly cooked!
Chicken Scnitty & Porchetta are always the superstars in their menu!
Look the beers on tap as well!
Loved this place so much that we celebrated two private bday parties here too! Both nights were catered superbly!
Was a nice place for my Mum’s birthday dinner! It was a bit pricey but it was a formal setting. Unfortunately one of the meals seemed to be forgotten about… my dad had to eat after us but apart from that, busy and decent food. Wait staff were really nice too.
4 of us visited The Maylands pub last night. Excellent service, staff were attentive and knew their stuff. 3 of us ordered whiting crumbed & battered, hubby ordered the lamb shank with vegetables.
Meals were excellent, if any fault, maybe the salad - a bit dry without any dressing & I think it was a ‘try-hard’ coleslaw without the dressing. Whiting, 3 medium size pieces was juicy & delicious. The lamb shank, only the bone was left on the plate. Overall great place with the renovated dining area. Will be a cosy place to gather around the fire in winter. Would recommend this pub 👍🏻in the eastern burbs!
Delicious food but the service could have been more attentive. The waitress was painstakingly cleaning chairs rather than seeing if we would like a drink - the place was virtually empty. Might be simpler not to have table service
The staff were so friendly and the food was delicious.
We were impressed with the menu as it stated what was nut free and dairy free. Our son is allergic to nuts and dairy and the menu had so many options for him. He loved the DF garlic herb bread and kingfish.
Would definitely recommend.
