Nice little cafe with a welcoming environment and friendly staff. Nico Cafe is one of the few places in Adelaide I go to for my matcha latte fix. They always seem to make it better than others, where I found that some were too milky or lacking in matcha strength.
I had just realised that Nico cafe have changed the ownership since 11/4/2016. Thank you the previous owner Gary and her wife Nami for all the effort he put into this cafe.
I will miss you Gary!! especially your coffee !!
"it's a farmer's union iced coffee or its nothing - unless it's an iced coffee from Nicos!!"
Their iced coffee is far superior to farmers union.
Nico Cafe is a personal favourite - it's an absolute gem. The service is fast and efficient and workers are so friendly and genuine. The food is generously dished and always delicious. The hot drinks are also consistently awesome.
A very interesting location for a small Japanese fusion garden styled cafe. However, despite the location, the place itself was very pleasant. It had a very garden like feel to it with simple decorations and very smartly created menus from children's books. The menu itself had a variety as it is a cafe there were food that included sandwiches and classic breakfasts with a little touch of Japanese cuisine. I personally tried one of their Teriyaki Chicken rice bowls and it was absolutely amazing! As a true fan of Japanese food I was most delighted with the outcome. It was simple yet filling. Perhaps I had arrived with zero to no expectations and thus I was taken by the surprise. Service was friendly and had a relaxing atmosphere. Perfect to come for breakfast or lunch by yourself or with a company or two.
(Since this review, the cafe has changed owners and the menu is different now.)
Love this little cafe!
If you are going to visit this cafe, i would strongly recommend everyone to try
their pork rice bowl!
Before you leave, please must try their homemade sweet and their quality coffee!
Such a cute little Japanese cafe! Their food was exquisite, and so delicious! I had the chicken doria, and it had a lovely egg hidden in the middle, with runny yolk too! My friend tried the tuna mayo don, and the portion was huge! Will definitely come back for a second time!
Walk in the other day and ordered whole tray of blueberry muffin and the teriyaki chicken salad platter for catering to be picked up the next following day for the business meeting at 7am.
It was very delicious and well prepared.
Please noted that they only do catering pick up, not for delivery.
We will definitely be back to try their food :)
Nico cafe is my favourite cafe in Adelaide.
Service is always friendly.
I was surprised that they rememeber my usual even I just been there once :)
I love their chai latte since I been trying lots of coffee shop, they measure the right amount for the drink always and never overpower for the sweetness:)
My recommendations for the dish that everyone must try are tamago toast and wasbai avocado bowl. It was so tasteful and delicious. That's the reason why they catch my attention as they doing something very difference from other local cafe.
After being stranded at Parafield and eating the overly oily and salty mess food, my palate craved an almighty change – something more simple, something more bearable, something nice. However, I was ultimately disappointed by two proponents of horrible food and service in the form of Chinatown’s residents, Ryo’s Noodles and Lemon and Lime Thai Café. Hence, to wrap up my Adelaide adventures, I flicked through the internet to discover a pleasant surprise located within the CBD of Adelaide.
Stopped in for a take away cappuccino and that was amazing but what was even better was the little blue berry muffins. Highly recommend. Service is outstanding and very friendly. Will be Back soon for lunch with my partner
Very impressive cafe!. My favourite dishes are Teriyaki chicken bowl and pork katsu bowl :) strongly recommend!!
Remember to try their coffee as well :))))
Lovely serivce and good music :)))
Topped with a white sauce and cheese gave a creaminess (if you’ve ever ate Japanese white curry this is what it’s like). Hidden in the middle is a poached egg with a gooey egg yolk center covering the diced chicken and onion. Tasty dish and quite filling for a $12 lunch. Chicken Doria ($11.90) Mmm matcha affrogato tasted pretty good – the bitter shot of coffee went well with the scoops of matcha icecream. They’ve done a good job with the icecream as there was a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness. The only gripe I have is that parts of it were icy – people that know me know that I’m not a fan of icy icecream. Matcha Affrogato ($5.90) Cute little cafe tucked away on Franklin St where you feel like you’re in a Korean drama. It has a really nice atmosphere where it feels like you’re in an outdoor garden. Would’t hesitate to come back to try more of what they’ve got. Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 Related posts:

Hand roll sushi. Tried their lunch special hand roll sushi! It was absolutely yummy ! So fresh as they just make it right away when people order... Not like other sushi shop pre-make the sushi and putting there under the cooling display for so many hours until the rice turn to be so hard. They do monthly special with so many interesting dish before too with so many positive feedback, definitely give it another go very soon!

Strongly recommend and definitely go back for their fortnightly lunch special!!!!
Dee and I were invited to this curious little breakfast and lunch spot last weekend. Nico Cafe welcomed us with a satisfying Saturday lunch on them. The Japanese-themed cafe is fairly new to Adelaide, but is easy to spot with the storefront boarded up with wooden slabs, and a tiny bike and chalk board sitting outside. The small, yet cheery cafe sure added a little colour to the otherwise monotonous Franklin Street. When we stepped inside, the wooden chairs and tables, potted plants, and various decorations on the wall made me feel like I was sitting in someone’s backyard on a bright, sunny day. It was a warm day as well, meaning the cool, air-conditioned cafe was a relief. Perhaps because of the location, I was also pleasantly surprised it wasn’t crowded despite the fact that it was 1 in the afternoon on a gorgeous Saturday. The menus are featured in classic children’s picture books, adding to the whimsical charm of the cafe. Matcha Affogato; $5.90 The drink menu was the first thing we gravitated towards as we were both looking for something cold and refreshing to cool off with. I ordered the iced green tea and Dee ordered the Matcha Affogato. To my disappointment, my green tea came in a can so nothing special there. But we were both head over heels for the Matcha Affogato that looked both pretty and delicious. And according to Dee, it was yum too! Seaweed chips; $4.50 After perusing the menu, we asked for the cafe’s recommendations. What followed was a generous lunch, including four dishes hot from the kitchen, more than enough for the two of us. First up were the seaweed chips from their list of appetizers. The crispy chips were sprinkled with salty, dried seaweed – an interesting fusion of a typical Aussie snack and a common Japanese ingredient. I couldn’t get my fingers out of the bowl! Tamago on toast; $5.90 Next came the Ebi Katsu and the Cafe’s signature, Tamago on toast. The Tamago consisted of a slice of thick toast topped with an egg and Japanese mayonnais
