Absolutely love this place! I can't get enough of the Butter Chicken! Keep up the great work, I'll definitely be back!!
Fantastic Indian food with a touch of professionalism. Dress up and expect a perfect date night. Lovely staff beautiful food. Even during COVID, a first class meal at home! Thanks legends, keep up the good work!
My partner told me this place was rated the best Indian in Australia and I can definitely see why. Our takeaway dinner was amazing. Loved the butter chicken and the dal bukhara. There's so much flavour in the gravies, we mopped up every last bite.
100% worth the title and I'd love to dine-in when they re-open after lockdown.
What did I love about this restaurant? Everything! The food, service and ambience was beyond what I was expecting. This is by far my favourite Indian restaurant and I’m sure it would be perfect for those who crave/love Indian food or for those that are new to the Indian cuisine. There’s so many other dishes I want to try on the menu so I’m keen to visit back. Must orders: Sukha Gol Gappa, Murgh Khurchan and Dirty Samosa. The cocktails were also so tasty.
Amazing experience at Atta! Really loved the Silkandari Raan dish, I totally understand why it is so popular, it tastes so amazing!! I would definitely return again!
The flavours at Atta never fail to disappoint - deliciously fresh and savouring every bite! My personal favourite is the classic butter chicken. Love the atmosphere here and staff treat you like family
A must try Indian restaurant! Also a must return to restaurant! The venue itself is stunning the lighting is perfection for nice dinner or date night, staff are wonderful ! Food is sensational!! I highly recommend the dirty samosa and the butter chicken. All was delicious and would highly recommend. Will definitely return . Thank you Atta and great job!
Had a lovely dinner here. Definitely the fanciest Indian restaurant I've been to, both in Melbourne and abroad, and the price reflects this. The presentation is lovely and adds to the experience. We ordered a range of entrees, mains and desserts to share, all very nice although I did prefer the mains. The standout in terms of flavour was the biryani - it came wrapped in a bowl wrapped in pastry, and the rice was moist and flavours delicious.
The restaurant was very well presented and the staff were amazing, and this was just the start. We ordered 1 entree and 2 mains and the food came very well presented and tasted amazing.
Highly recommend Atta Indian if you love your Indian or not. Thanks Legends!
Albert Park’s contemporary Indian restaurant, Atta has just launch a new “Atta At Home” range which is the perfect way to enjoy award-winning, restaurant-quality food at home. The meals are ready in just 3-4 minutes and are as carefully crafted and cooked just the same as if you were dining-in at Atta. This is an easy and affordable way to enjoy premium quality Indian food from home, during isolation. The range is available to purchase exclusively at Gumtree Good Food Stores.
Takeaway date night done right at Atta! Can't recommend the Pahadi Bhed enough it blew my mind. Can't wait to dine here when things are up and running again
It’s not hard to understand why Atta was voted the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. Offering a refined dining experience that’s true to its Indian heritage, we found their dishes exceptionally tasty and most definitely authentic.Cooking up one of the best Butter Chicken is no easy feat, but Atta Restaurant has done just that, which we think, perfectly justifies their finer-dining price point.
Our group had really high expectations before visiting, knowing they were voted best Indian restaurant in Mebourne. Pleased to say it lived up to all they hype, and then some! Upon arrival were served wonderfully by the staff. The restaurant itself is beautiful and full of character. The food was impeccable our so well made. Our group of friends still talks about it a month later!
What a phenomenal date night dinner we had tonight! The food was brilliant and tasty, the service was impeccable and the fitout and ambiance was perfect! Such a great night 🥰😍
The serving sizes were HUGE and we rolled out of the restaurant having ordered way too much, but it was totally worth it 😁😂
Pictured is:
1. Entree: Kala Shah Kala (mustard tandoori chicken, porcini mushrooms, tikka chutney, asparagus, yuzu gels, gold leaf)
2. Main: Murgh Makhani (butter chicken, spices, tomato & cashew gravy)
3 & 4 Rice: Lamb Biryani (steamed rice, mint, dry fruits, saffron, spices)
5. Side: Tandoori Naan
6. Drink: Mango Lassi
7. Opening the Biryani 😍👌
Finally came here after months of wanting to go and Atta didn’t disappoint! My partner and I shared a mix of mains and entrees with some cocktails and everything was just amazing! We’re not normally big eaters of Indian cuisine but Atta has us hooked. Thanks for a great evening!
I love Atta. If you're wanting fine dining Indian style, this is the place in Melbourne to go. The food is always beautiful and beautifully presented, and the atmosphere and decor is great. The food is heavenly. Everything looks so incredibly good and plated really well and the taste is like something you have never had before. Highly recommend!
This is our (my husband's and mine) favorite place in Melbourne. We celebrate all our big days and auspicious occasion at Atta.
The chicken biryani and tea is my absolute favorite of all dishes.
Love everything there starting from ambience, food, service and presentation. I definitely recommend it. ❤️
Amazing modern Indian cuisine not far from Melbourne CBD. This visit was for a particular special occasion and we had both been waiting to treat ourselves to a meal at Atta for a very long time, and it did not disappoint. The venue was beautiful, totally immaculate, staff were so attentive, professional and helpful and the food was divine! The Murgh Makhani and Lamb Korma were both equally delicious and rich in flavour. Presentation for all dishes was beautiful too. Looking forward to coming back already.
This place has me wanting to move closer to it. It’s perfect in every sense. Many indian places have loud music that isn’t conducive to have a great conversation over food. In contrast the first thing you will notice about this place is the calm. And it only gets better from there. We started with the drinks. And every course was presented perfectly. It was very delicious food too(which sometimes is hard with food that looks this good). Absolutely loved my experience. Will advice to book ahead, as they were booked out the previous times I tried to drop in.
I’ve been here multiple times and have always enjoyed the food. However lately I feel the quality has dropped off.
Ambience & Service - I’ll give this place 5/5 for ambience and service. This restaurant is a fine dining place and their ambience and service says the same. I’ve always enjoyed the friendly warm service.
Pricing - given this is a fine dining place, be prepared to pay the big bucks but it’s not too bad to be honest.
Food - this is where I feel the quality has dropped off. Not sure if there is a change in chef or something but the food quality has definitely dropped off a little bit. We ordered dal Makhani but there is too much elichi in it I think, the bread basket was just regular naan you’d get at a normal restaurant as compared to the crispy naans Atta use to serve back then. Their naan’s back then we’re my absolute favourite as they were fresh and amazing but now it’s quite average which was a little disappointing.
Overall - I still rate this restaurant highly because of their overall standard, I just feel some small things can be fixed and they’ll be my number one Indian restaurant I. melbourne again.
This place is fantastic!
Everyone that worked in the establishment were so professional, warm and so, so friendly. We were lucky to score a seat on the mezzanine so we could watch the chefs work their magic in the kitchen - we could not believe how quiet they were! We went crazy with our food order; Chatpatta Paan, Dirty Samosa (So good! I'm normally not a fan of samosa's however this blew me away), the Twice Cooked Lamb Ribs (Bhed Ke Pasaliyan), the Sous Vide Duck, Lamb Korma (the dried fruits included was such a beautiful addition to the dish). Just everything was outstanding, we can't wait to come back!
Atta really blew me away with the whole experience. Hats off to the chef and owners for delivering such a great fine indian dining experience. The good was fantastic. Will be recommending this place to all my friends.
Love love love everything about this place. Spectacular food and even better service.
I’m really stoked that this restaurant lived up to my expectations. Every single corner of this restaurant was beautiful! I was amazed by the architecture. It had such a rustic yet modern vibe. The staff were so polite and helpful.
It was definitely the best Indian restaurant I have been to and I love my Indian food. Amazing presentation, I really felt the prestigious dining experience.
For a party of two, we were recommended to order two entree and one main.
We ordered
2 x Mango Lassi (best I’ve ever had)
2 x Sulha Gol Gappa which were these bite size gol gappas served in a gorgeous wooden box. They were delicious and exploded in flavor.
For entree we got the Battakh which was sous vide Duck and Sikandari Raman which was sous vide leg of lamb. My absolute favorite was the duck. It had a sweet tangy sauce on it, almost like a plum sauce which I loved. The lamb was more heavy sided but super delicious as well. The lamb was served with a glass dome on top and was revealed in smoke!
For the mains, we ordered butter chicken which was quite a large serving. It was so well cooked and the chicken was very tender. My favorite was the garlic naan. Best I’ve ever had, so crispy and not oily at all!
I was so full at this point but I had to stuff in dessert and boy I was not disappointed.
The Gulab Juman, which was like a Greek doughnut but stuffed was so delicious. We devoured within minutes.
I wish they gave us more than one small ball though for the price of $17.
Overall I had a blast. Thanks Atta, I’ll be back
Atta is definitely one of the best Indian fine dining restaurants I have come across in Melbourne. It is authentic delicious Indian food with excellent service and a very good ambience. I usually end up going there to celebrate various occasions and it never disappoints. It is a perfect place for a fine dining experience when one wants to indulge in some tasty Indian food but also have a good experience.
I'm not usually one to go out for fine dining Indian but with such glowing reviews it is hard to go past Atta! There isn't really one stand out dish to recommend as every single dish that we ordered was as good as the last. A fine dining experience that should be had by everyone. Highly recommend going to Atta.
Came here for a friends birthday. I don’t eat much Indian food, so really can’t comment on authenticity or whether a dish should taste this way/ that way.
I enjoyed our dishes. Everything was beautifully platted. My friend, who had a full view of the kitchen was really impressed with the running of it.
ATTA I've been wanting to go for so long... Finally I made it to ATTA! Its a beautiful rustic style Set out! I'll start with the positives the food is a 5 out 5! That curry was aboslutely AMAZING! The best curry I've had in melbourne. Perfectly balanced with spice and chilli 🌶! As for the service unfortunately it was very disappointing a 3 out of 5. We waited to long for service and drinks and even acknowledgement. I'd 100% go back for the food.
Modern Indian cuisine at its best! Atta is a multiple award winning restaurant and it's not hard to see why. Their dishes are innovate and sophisticated with deep authenticity in them. They have exceptional service at an amazing venue with great ambiance. Their food is delicious and the menu stays exciting with their unique specials.
One of the most unique and interesting restaurants I have ever been to. I am a big fan of Indian cuisine and was surprised by this a fine dining experience.
I've had the Barramundi Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, saffron rice and some Naan Bread. The butter chicken was my favorite, stunning presentation and it tastes even better. You can't go wrong with Naan bread either, it goes along perfectly..
There might be a bit waiting time between the dishes when it's busy but that's understandable. The service is very attentive and friendly. Prices are reasonable for this stunning experience, definitely recommended for those who love Indian cuisine and are looking for something special! Will definitely come back here.
Until now, Indian food has always been pigeonholed as the go-to take-away comfort food for a night-in watching Netflix. But Atta challenges this stereotype, presenting an elegant take on the cuisine.
Envisioned by owners Brij and Harry, Atta is a fine dining restaurant bringing indigenous and classic dishes from all corners of India. In 2016, Harry re-vamped the menu to inject a new energy into their venture. High ceilings with white beams, lofty windows and candle-lit tables create a luxurious and cosy ambience.
Each dish is plated and served in a creative way – from precious stones in a wooden treasure box and a delicate floral arrangement, to a smoky reveal with dry ice – making for a fun dining experience.
“If food hasn’t stimulated your senses like sight, smell, touch and taste then you have not experienced food” says the Atta team.
The seasonal menu features bold, contrasting flavours using authentic centuries-old recipes and traditional tandoori cooking methods. The three-course dinner banquet is designed to balance vegetarian and non-vegetarian selections. Highlights include the Suka go gappa (plain flour go gappa, potato and chickpeas, sweet hung yoghurt and aam panna), Battakh (18-hour sous vide duck, mango marinated daikon, jiggery and vinegar glaze, onion and cashew gravy) and the Kerla Jhinga (King prawns cooked in coconut milk, tempered mustard, sun-dried chillies, tomato and onion gravy). The extensive wine list offers beautiful pairings and the dessert menu is a must-try, too. (Make sure you leave some room!).
Outstanding Indian food right from the presentation to the taste. Totally loved every dish we ordered. Indian food lovers this place is a must visit. Will definitely visit again to try the rest of the dishes.
One of the few times I’ve tried Indian food, since it’s always been associated with being ‘heavy’. But I can say that this is the best one I’ve ever tried, and I wouldn’t mind going back. The place itself was like a traditional fine dining restaurant, with white cloth. The service was fast, the waiter was very friendly and helpful. The highlights were the butter chicken, barramundi tikka masala, and definitely the Naan! I would definitely go for the butter chicken and naan combo, it was the best! The curry dishes weren’t too heavy, as it tends to be at other places. The dishes were light yet very flavourful. The naan and biryani were very fragrant. Was very full after the entree and mains, but couldn’t resist to not order the dessert. Tried their first one on the menu, it was smaller than expected. The pistachio floss was unlike any other I’ve tried. It wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet like other fairy floss. The ice cream was unique, it was a spice flavoured ice cream. Overall, I think dining at Atta was very worth it. The price itself wasn’t too expensive, and you get a fine dining experience. I recommend using Entertainment app for 25% discount. Definitely will come back!
Wow! This is by far the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to. I was instantly impressed after having the entrees and couldn’t wait for our mains to come, which honestly did take a while. Flavours were stop on, except I felt like we got baited to order the “essentials” as a “palate cleanser” before entree BUT, it came to the table after our entrees so our entrees got cold. We wanted to eat the dishes in the correct order as stated by our waitress to have the full experience. Sadly, it was our least favourite dish. Otherwise, everything else was delicious! I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family. Actually, I already have!! Lamb ribs and scallops were my favourite dishes!
Atta busy on a Wednesday night - locals know where to get great food......not your typical indian restaurant......fresh flavours, great service. WILL BE BACK SOON!
Me and my partner have been to Atta multiple times and have never been disappointed. It's one of the best indian restaurants in Melbourne. From service to ambience to food is near perfection! The presentation of all the dishes is absolutely beautiful.
Highly recommended and will keep coming back :)
This is the best modern Indian-fusion in the state.
Simply everything you order will be made with immense care, skill and patience, which reflects in the quality of the food. From the simple Pappadum to the Kerla Jhinga, everything on this menu has been carefully curated to provide you with a journey through the subcontinent.
We simply cannot get enough of Atta, and plan to spend every possible special occasion, celebration or even Sunday night dinner here!
The best Indian food in Melbourne. My partner and I really enjoyed our meals, the service was wonderful. Looking forward to coming back again soon!
A little more on the pricey side for Indian food but service and quality of food is great. Curries are especially good here, we tried Butter Chicken, Lamb Chennai, Palak Paneer. I think one of the best in Melbourne but not sure if I would come back often because of the price.
Weekends aint just for brunching, its also perfect for glorious fine dining nights 🍽. I usually have Indian at my casual local fav, but modern Indian fine dining at Atta was an experience like no other🤤! if you’re still looking for the best butter chicken🍗, I have found it for you cos this one at Atta is unbelievable tasty😋!
Such great food and you won’t leave starving! My partner and I left tooo full! Very friendly service too. Would definitely recommend. Can’t wait to go back
Overall my experience at Atta was basically perfect. The waiters and waitresses were very polite and knew what was served. The prices were very reasonable and the food were tasty and full of flavour. The Sous vide lamb was so good! Will come again when I need my Indian cuisine fix
Hands down, among the best Indian food I’ve tasted in my life!! The flavours were absolutely phenomenal; every mouthful was amazing! The service, ambience & presentation were also top notch. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
The best Indian restaurant in Melbourne by rating, personal experience and everything in-between. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by not only the utmost friendly service, but a beautiful display of modern architecture and design that is reminiscent of luxury fine dining found in the heart of Southbank or Crown. If there was a fine dining Indian category, Atta would take the crown without hesitation as Melbourne's best.
Today we ordered the dirty samosa, butter chicken, saffron rice and two servings of Garlic Naan bread. The dirty samosa was beautifully enriching, with the yoghurt flavour and multitude of sauces culminating to form an exquisite taste in your mouth. A melt in your mouth flavour with hints of sauces to really add a flavourful punch. The butter chicken was exceptional. With a cashew gravy, cream and delicious texture, this has to be the best sauce we have ever tried. The chicken was freshly cooked with a slight charcoal taste with each bite, a perfect mask over the tender and juicy chicken meat blanketed with the delicious sauces. The garlic naan tasted like a garlic bread pizza, fine with taste and soft enough to be easy to eat.
All of this for a very reasonable price, outstanding, even world class service and ambience, makes this for one of the best Melbourne dining experiences to date. Thank you Atta for a wonderful dinner, we will definitely be back!
Food: 5/5
Service: 5/5
Ambience: 5/5
Value: 5/5
Overall: 5/5
Best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. Can see best culinary art in their dishes.Best professional behaviour which almost all Indian restaurant lacking behind, you definitely can find it here.superb food.Nice ambiance.Desserts are unbeatable.

Best Indian restaurant in Melbourne
Love atta for everything
100/100
My most favourite Indian place! Have been here many times, tried almost every curry on the menu. Perfect fusion flavour, great restaurant atmosphere.
Gee this is a nice place. Indian food re imagined and presented with flair. Two entrees and two mains left the two of us very full. Next time I’ll save room for dessert.
Very nicely cooked Indian dishes presented modern way. Service, presentation, delivery and customer service is worth it. Beautiful location and spacious restaurant.
Not a fan of Indian food but I like Atta!
Food was beautifully presented and it taste great. Service was friendly and helpful.
Will come back again.
This has got to be the best Indian establishment I’ve eaten at. Coming all the way from South Africa, my aunt suggested this place as she and chef owner Hari are pretty good mates.
We sat down in our quiet spot which was very elegantly lit and enjoyed a few starters and main meals. The attention to detail in presentation and flavor matching is unbelievable. This place is a must!
Truly a Fantabulous Place, It's not just another Indian restaurant, It is THE Best Indian Restaurant in Melbourne
I went there on my Birthday and I must say they made my birthday special,
Order any dish, I repeat ANY DISH on the menu and You won't be disaapointed,
Service Staff - John - You are truly a Rockstar mate - your services were beyond the mark, You actaully matched a service level of 5+ Stars restaurants like Dinner by Heston Blumenthal or Vue de Monde
P.s : Book a Table near the Kitchen, You will know why when you there
A quality find! Absolutely refined Indian at its best. A classy space with good lighting, acoustics and speakers to create the right feel. The food was generous and beautifully cooked. The meat was well sourced and cooked to a tender perfection. Flavours were bang on and calling out authenticity and more. Service? Sensational also. A winner for Albert Park!

Finally, an creative, modern Indian restaurant in Melbourne with tasty food to match! We loved our experience here. Everything we ordered was tasty but the highlights were the prawns, samosa, butter chicken and the naan. The cocktails were delicious (and strong ;)) We will definitely be back for another special occasion!
Pros: Great service, great environment, amazing food! Good drinks. Private room for events is great! Food was really fine dining & tasted amazing! Cons: Coke is small glass with no ice but chilled glass, not for me.
What an amazing experience and we will definitely be back to Atta!
We are lovers of Indian cuisine, and enjoyed this fine dining approach.
The food was amazing, full of flavour, and innovative.
Great drinks menu, and the service was fantastic.
10/10.
My husband and I had dinner here after a recommendation from some friends. We don't eat much Indian food, other than our local takeaway shop so we couldn't believe how amazing everything was.
The dishes look modern and the atmosphere and hospitality is very fine-dining style. Lot's of curries to choose from, I enjoyed the vegetarian and my husband had the beef kashmiri, which was very tender. The chicken biryani is outstanding, from the spices to the pastry on top, we ate every last bite.
Would definitely recommend Atta as a bucket-list restaurant in Melbourne.
Will come back for:
+ Mango Lassi
+ Chapatta Paan (Betel Leaf wrap)
+ Jhinga coco (King prawns in coconut gravy)
+ Bread basket (mixed breads)
+ Kashmiri Naan
+ Chicken Biryani
There’s a lot to like about this place. Service was exceptional, cosy setup, and food was well presented and flavors great. We tried a variety of dishes, but the ones that stuck out to me at least were the betel leaf wraps (textural and refreshing on the palate), the king prawns in coconut gravy (fresh prawns swimming in a thick curry like gravy), and the breads here are all pretty delicious (use these to soak up the curries). I also liked the chicken biryani which was well cooked, moorish and served with a bread crusted top. The mango lassi was thick and fresh. Some of the other dishes looked great (like the slow cooked lamb and dirty samosa) but I found the flavours just ok. Fine dining prices here, but you get what you pay for. The place was packed on a Saturday night. Clearly, this is a favourite for the locals. Booking essential. Will be back to try out some of the other dishes.

We have tried many indian restaurants and Atta is completely different (in a good way of course). It feels modernised, easy to get into and very fancy. We really enjoyed the food and definitely recommend anyone who's keen for Indian food to give it a go. Our favourite dish was the lamb ribs and Jhinga coco (prawns curry) so delicious!
The staff was really really friendly and attentive . They explained every dishes thoroughly. The interior is well decorated, incredible architecture and there are many paintings.
We would definitely come back again!
Hands down the best Indian in Melbourne. Really yum flavours across the board, exceptional service and sheer dining pleasure (spaced out fine dining ambience). The dirty samosa and the nargisi kofta were stand outs. Kofta was probably the best we have had anywhere in a long long time! And the rann and biryani looked amazing too as thy were served to other guests (we were full with whatever we ordered) - we will definitely be back again, a few times!!! A bit expensive but that’s expected for the quality..
Note that thefo0die.com rating is a 4.5 but in Zomato's rating system, it is closer to a 5.
Fo0die dined as a guest of Atta and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.
We took tram route 1 out to Atta after work on a Friday night and after a 20 minute ride, we arrived at the quiet strip of shops where the venue is located. At the time we dined, the casual fine dining venue had recently just turned one and got busier as we got into the night.
In a completely just world, the success of this restaurant would necessitate a wait of weeks to get a highly prized table. Luckily for us, getting a booking at Atta is still pretty easy, and we had a lovely experience. Indian cuisine is complex and exciting, however its dynamism and creativity is not pushed nearly as much as, for example, South East Asian cuisine is. Atta is maybe the only place in Melbourne - certainly the only one I know of - that applies creativity and innovation to food from the subcontinent.
I had planned to be alcohol free, however my willpowr disintegrated immediately on seeing the cocktail menu. The Rum Zhatka was exciting, spicy, earthy and deep; and my partner had some kind of alcoholic mango lassi-ish drink.
We largely followed recommendations from the waiter for our food, and we shared it all between us. We had two entrees and one main dish. The entrees are innovative and a treat for all the senses. Twice-cooked salmon in banana leaf was perfect - we ate slowly, not wanting it to finish. The presentation of the lamb sous-vide with carrots and potatoes was dramatic, clouds of applewood smoke released from under a bell jar at the table; and the food again a mixture of spiciness, richness and vibrancy.
For our main, we shared a rich, saucy prawn and coconut dish. We ordered very spicy, the extreme end of a range offered to us. I think this did justice to the dish, although I am very chilli-tolerant. The rich coconut does temper the chilli in any case. We were also offered extra green chilli, although in the end we did not need these.
Accompaniments were excellent jeera rice, and bread. The butter naan was great; the recommended very buttery Kashmiri Kulcha was also excellent in itself, although I am not sure was such a great fit for the dish - probably plain chapatis or rotis would have been a better recommendation.
For desert, Gulab Jamun were soft and warm and excellent, and kulfi dazzling in its presentation. I am not personally the worlds biggest fan of deserts anywhere - when we go again, I would probably sacrifice these for another main dish and a second cocktail! But for people with a sweeter tooth than mine, the deserts are a real treat.
I have some small suggestions for improvement in what is an outstanding restaurant; we were a bit rushed with our entrees, as the salmon and lamb came at the same time. They are both such strong dishes, and it would have been lovely to have time to enjoy one fully before the arrival of the other. We understand that we were there on a Sunday night, and arrived at a relatively late time (8pm), however slowing down the (very lovely) service a little would have been welcome. I also think some more emphasis on plainer breads (like the aforementioned roti or chapatis) would offset the amazing food better than rich kulchas.
Overall, an outstanding and brilliant restaurant. Thank you - I hope they have many years of success.
Came here with my husband for our anniversary and it was the perfect dinner for our special occasion! Never had Indian food like this, it was all very clean and modern the way it was presented. We loved dessert the most! It looked like artwork on a plate and the flavours of the ice cream were incredible!
Beautiful restaurant, super friendly staff and owner!
Staff will explain the dish when they serve it, which is something that I appreciate.
I’ve been waiting to see a fine dining Indian restaurant in melbourne and I’m glad I’ve found one.
The entree portion is small, although sufficient for 1 person, taste very good as well.
Curries has a good portion. Naan portion is quite big!
Too bad me and my friend Are too full to order dessert, the next table dessert looks amazing though!
Highly recommend this restaurant for a beautiful dinner out :)
Atta is the place to go if you're in the mood for Indian, but looking for somewhere a little bit fancy (and Tonka is booked out!). With its white tablecloths and incredible architecture (think heritage listed building meet New York loft-style gallery), this relatively newly opened establishment oozes charm and style, whilst still feeling warm and welcoming.
If you think you’ve had incredible modern Indian food, think again. Atta is an essential dining occasion for anyone who loves Indian food. Served in fine style, atta takes the best of Indian food and puts a modern spin on a popular traditional cuisine. Perfect for vegetarians and those who like their meat, there are plenty of signature dishes including a desert that must be tried to be believed. The spices and vegetarian/meat combination are right on point and the rotti bread will leave you wanting more. Highly recommended - your taste buds will be grateful
I am a fan of Indian food and order it quite frequently but I HAVE NEVER had Indian like this before! Modern Indian with a twist is what they preach, the flavours are just mouth watering! I came here on date night with my wife and have told all of our friends they should do the same. The hype is real!
It’s been a long time since I found one proper fine dining Indian restaurant. A restaurant that takes pride in the way they cook their food and present it to their customers. Atta has lives up to all my expectations. I came across this restaurant through a friend who suggested it to me and I honestly couldn’t wait to see what the hype was about.
When you enter the restaurant, you’ll see how beautifully the place has been decorated, you instantly get a feel that you’ve entered a high caliber place.
When you sit down, instead of receiving papadums like other restaurants, you receive something different as a complimentary dish. We ordered plenty of dishes and all of them had amazing flavour, not a single dish was average which is great and to top it all off, the presentation was amazing. This is the first time I’ve seen someone take this much pride in presentation.
Although, the only possible downside of this is their service, it can be quite slow and the food can sometimes take quite a while but the reason I’ve given it 5 Stars is because the owner was nice to us, the overall service quality was good which I’m happy with.
If you’re looking for a fine dining Indian restaurant, this literally is the one stop shop!
Can’t speak highly enough about Atta!
We dined here recently and being huge fans of Indian food, we were looking forward to a great meal and were absolutely blown away.
The space itself is modern and stylish, a split level seating area with an open kitchen and gorgeous mood lighting.
Wonderful, friendly service from staff who know the menu in and out greeted us and took us through the dishes and drinks. A comprehensive drink list as well as some great cocktails to start is always a good idea and I’ll be going back to try more of them.
Starting our meal with the Chatpatta Pan (betel leaf with chicken) and the Sukha gol Gappa (chickpeas and potato) we loved the flavours in both of these bite sized and gorgeously presented dishes. Good to note that there are so many vegetarian dishes here too!
Spicy chicken balls and spicy lamb rolls as entrees will absolutely blow your mind! The mint and beetroot chutneys not only look amazing but the flavours with the accompanying asparagus on the lamb dish are sensational.
If you’re up for a curry as a main, it’ll be hard to choose between all these amazing options. The beef mircha is a dish I’d definitely go back for and haven’t had a better one in a very long time - absolutely amazing. I’m keen to try their version of butter chicken as well as their king prawns in coconut sauce.
I highly recommend Atta if you’re a fan of Indian food and wonderful service in a gorgeous spot!
A feast for your eyes.
The service, ambience and presentation is a welcome and refreshing change for the Indian food scene. All dishes were great and well prepared with the standout being the lamb and chicken dishes tender & succulent.
However, when it came to taste, I would just say “above average”. Most dishes weren’t necessarily “the best” I’ve had, especially to justify the high price point. There are plenty of restaurants which can easily match, if not are better on taste yet are 1/4 of the price. Its essential your local Indian dishes plated amazingly.
If I could be harsh, the taste buds were a tiny bit disappointed that they didn’t experience anything new, the eyes on the other hand were blown away!
Where Atta stands now, used to be a Vietnamese restaurant. So when I drove passed Atta two weeks ago and saw the change, it caught my eye, because the restaurant has a gorgeous facade and dim lighting on the inside, making it look stunning at night. I made a mental note of the new name and checked it out the second I got home, only to discover that it has a very impressive menu and I knew I had to try it.
As soon as you walk inside, you are warmly greeted by the attentive staff. It's a spacious interior, so you don't feel cramped like in some other restaurants, and the tables are a good size which is always handy if you like to share dishes. The floors are a polished concrete, so your chairs slide in easily and quietly. The music is jazzy and gives you a feel of elegant dinning, though this can also be attributed to the gorgeous white lamps that adorn each table.
Though they have the standards you'd expect like samosas, and butter chicken, they also have some more unusual options that you don't often see. For my entree, I chose the Achari Machli which is a twice cooked salmon in a mustard tempered coconut chutney. It was DELICIOUS. Not only was it one of the more exquisite things I've ever eaten, but the presentation was outstanding. It certainly goes above and beyond what you'd find at many other Indian restaurants. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the flavours were heavenly. The entree came out in a reasonable time, and devoured in seconds. For my main, I opted for what I knew I'd like, which is the butter chicken with saffron rice to share and a garlic naan. I asked for it to be prepared mildly and it was. It was so creamy and delicious and the garlic naan was flaky and totally the best naan I've ever had. Everything came out the way we ordered it and in a good time frame and presented beautifully. I guess you can say for sure this is a modern Indian restaurant without a single familiar clay pot or bronzed bowl. The dishes themselves were trendy and the flatware new and elegant. It all made for a very enjoyable meal.
I did notice they did just one Uber Eats order, but no other takeouts. This made the kitchen be able to get peoples food out in good time which is always nice anywhere you go. The restaurant absorbs a lot of sound too, so even with almost every table taken, it wasn't too loud and you could enjoy your conversations without having to shout over everyone.
The only negative I could possibly add, is that it is just a touch expensive to justify coming here on a regular basis (which makes me sad). It IS in the Entertainment Book, but those vouchers are now long gone. I'd say for this reason, you'd probably keep this as one of those restaurants you come to for an occasion, rather than having it become your go-to pick whenever the craving hits.
I have to say though, that overall, it was very hard to fault Atta and I cannot wait to visit again. I highly recommend it if you love Indian food with a slight twist and enjoy a less casual dinning experience.
The Best Indian in Melbourne!
Loved this place. Food was great. Highly recommend Dirty Samosa and butter chicken...nan was great as well.
Service was prompt, staff great.
Tables spaced out nicely so not crammed in like many other Indian places.
Loved the kitchen being open so you can see the chefs at work.
This is a little more pricier than your avg indian but you can see the quality in the food. Drinks are reasonable though.
We will be back!
Atta in Albert Park was absolutely amazing. It really exceeded my expectations, especially having limited experience with Indian cuisine. Our waiter was very friendly and so helpful in recommending an array of dishes that we could share. The tandoori paneer (starter of chargrilled vegetables and cottage cheese) definable stood out for me, it was light but very flavorsome- a great start to the evening. For mains we sampled various chicken dishes which were all very tasty and the roti bread was to die for. We also tried two of the desserts which were also good but to be honest I probably prefer the savory Indian dishes over the desserts due to the flavor combinations being a little overwhelming for my palette. Although I think that says more for the quality of their savory dishes rather than a negative for the desserts. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the night, the quirky art work throughout restaurant and the attentive and friendly staff.
Ordered (between two with rice and a couple of naan breads):
-Bhed ke pasaliyan (lamb ribs)
-Achari machli (twice cooked salmon served in banana leaf)
-Achari murgh palak (picked chicken and spinach curry)
The Salmon served in a banana leaf was the stand out dish for me, the naan is as good as I have ever had and the pickled chicken curry was tender and tasty. Every aspect our meal was great.
The ambiance and service were also both fantastic, the restaurant itself is elegant, spacious and tastefully lit with white linen tables. The service matched this and was very professional and attentive.
Note that BYO wine is not an option Friday to Sunday, which is not noted here on Zomato (an error we made).
Although a bit more expensive than your usual Indian restaurant, Atta is a serious competitor for the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. We'd go back for sure.
We dined at Atta last night for a birthday dinner. As we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly, well presented staff. The space was very tastefully decorated without going overboard on Indian items. At times we even felt like we were not in an Indian restaurant.
The menu choices were organized by the host of the birthday, but every course was very well presented. I really enjoyed the sheek kababs with asparagus & chicken tikka on beetle leaf for entree. The food was cooked well and had the delicious flavors that you come to expect with Indian food. I even surprising enjoyed the Indian dessert, which I usually avoid at most Indian restaurants.
Overall we had a wonderful experience at Atta and I definitely recommend it for a special occasion.
I visited Atta the other week with a good friend of mine, and I have to say that I was absolutely blown away by how tasty and how nutritious the food was. I'm a butter chicken sort of Indian guy and I normally shy away from Indian food. The experience has changed my whole mindset about the cuisine and I'll definitely be back to atta. I'd give them a 6/5 if I could. P.s The Tandoori chicken is bomb af.
Was great to catch up with friends at Atta. Indian food is often quite hard to present well. That’s where Atta do things so right. All of the savoury food was fantastic. Our favourite was the dessert
An amazing place with the most wonderful host and staff and most importantly and extraordinary food. We are so fortunate to have this restaurant. Everything about this place is perfect. Beautiful surrounds and yet a casual grace about it. I can’t re moment it highly enough. So very glad for once there is something brilliant this side of the city!
Was great to catch up with old work friends for dinner at Atta. This modern Indian restaurant is a hop skip and a jump from the Albert Park beachfront and serves up a stunningly plated modern menu with delightful flavours and colours on a plate.
Indian food is one of my favourite cuisines, but let’s face it it is often quite hard to present well. That’s where Atta do things so right and all from a restaurant that’s only 8 months young.
I started my feast with a Mango Lassi cocktail. Which was the perfect accompaniment to my little appetiff on arrival.
We ordered betel leaf starters and a vibrantly coloured tikka chicken entree. I loved the mint purée swoosh presentation on the plate. The lamb entree came out with a smoke filled glass cloche, while the salmon was presented in a banana leaf covered parcel and just fell apart with tenderness.
For mains we had our tried and true butter chicken. We liked this so much we ordered another. This was lovely with its cashew sauce and the naan bread, it went perfectly together.
Others on the table were vegetarian and ate some amazing yogurt spattered vegetarian plates and samosas on chickpeas. One in our party challenged the restaurant with his trial of vegan eating which was met with modified and flexible dish creations.
I would have loved to have had dessert, but that second butter chicken completely did me in and no space remained. Not a bad dish to finish on mind you and skipping dessert gives me an excuse to come back to this great little restaurant.
For my monthly catch up with ex colleagues I suggested we try Atta, an 8 month old Indian restaurant that looked suitably impressive on social media. I am pleased to report it exceeded expectations in every way. I knew it was fine dining so had anticipated gorgeous presentation (and hefty prices) but hadn’t banked on such a stunning venue. The plating was even more beautiful then I could have imagined and the flavour combinations were simply flawless.
Don’t expect complimentary pappadums but there was a little appetiser which was a nice way to start the meal. We then ordered a few bite size nibbles gal gappa, pappadums and betel leaf. All priced at $5. I had the betel leaf which was tandoori chicken with strawberry gel. Love the textural element of the gel and the pop of flavour it had.
Entree wise the vegetarians on the table opted for the samosa. One samosa for $18 sounds next level insane on paper but it was sitting on a bed of chickpeas which made it a little more substantial. Being married to an Indian person I still don’t think I can abide by $18 for a solitary samosa though! The meat lovers among us had the tandoori chicken which was utterly delicious as well as the soups vide lamb which came theatrically under a smoking cloche. The twice cooked salmon was also presented well wrapped in a leaf held together by cloves, pretty ingenious. This came with a mustard tempered coconut chutney which paired well.
Mains for our plant loving friends were the sautéed seasonal vegetables. The rest of us shared butter chicken and tandoori chicken. The butter chicken was obviously my favourite and was a flawless rendition. The tandoori chicken was definitely not as good but I have pretty much never been to an Indian restaurant where I liked another dish more than the classic.
Sadly we were too full for dessert but it looked exceptional judging by what i enviously saw arrive on other people’s tables. Definitely more of a special occasion place as opposed to your Friday local but an absolute must visit for its sophisticated space, fantastic beachside location, impeccable food and brilliant atmosphere.
Gorgeous aesthetically but also in terms of the quality and presentation of the food. Impeccable service. Really enjoyed my meal tonight on all fronts. Thank you. I will be back.
Unexpectedly fine dining. Sophisticated design and incredibly attentive service. Before we ordered we were served complementary chickpea and potato appetisers which was a nice touch. For entrees we shared the lamb chops and the marinated prawns. Both dishes were very generous in size and slightly different to what was expected. We were impressed regardless. Then for mains we shared the barramundi curry and the spinach and paneer curry. Both were tasty but I personally preferred the stronger flavours with the barramundi. We also got a side of rice and naan bread. Overall a fantastic meal.
This resturant was inspiring. Traditional indian flavours presenfed in a contemporary way. Throughly enjoyed the service and food. Catered to my gluten free requests.
Atta Restaurant was amazing - we held our work Xmas party there and every thing was perfect. All the staff voted it the best Indian food they had ever had it was beautifully presented, the service, staff and ambiance all scored a 10/10. We can not wait to come back and share this hidden gem with friends and family. Thank you Kavita and Harry :-)
In my happy place there would be two things: aromatic, gloriously garlicy naan bread the size of a Siamese cat and succulent, superbly spiced lamb curry. A pairing almost without equal.
A close acquaintance recently remarked to me that whenever she eats out at an Indian restaurant she will, upon sitting back and reflecting on the meal, often wonder why she doesn’t go out for a curry more often. With so many choices these days, Indian food may not always be front of mind but it’s a cuisine that’s dependable, if a little uninspiring.
But when you think about Indian food in Melbourne it can conjure up images of samey-samey dishes served with too much fire but not enough warmth. We have largely imported the British-style, colonial version of Indian cuisine, and subcontinental restaurants in this city are, on the whole, sloppy carbon copies of each other – with a few notable exceptions, of course.
But bland be banished. A stylish, lively, piquant palace of Indian delights has landed in Albert Park. It’s named Atta (Hindi for wheat flour) and serves Indian food but not as you expect it.
This isn’t your 10-buck vindaloo and have a spew kind of joint; at Atta there’s a contemporary, playful approach to Indian cuisine, where modern cooking techniques are applied to traditional flavours. And the results are outstanding.
We started with the murgh tikka, which is spicy tandoori chicken with coriander infused oil. Ah tandoori chicken! A familiar favourite, but this is one spiffy looking dish. The chicken here has gone for a bit of a dip in a water bath, making it juicy, plump and packed full of flavour, and is served on a bed of baby spinach. An elegant little touch.
The showstopper entrée at Atta is the sikandari raan, super tasty braised lamb with dutch carrots and mint chutney, which arrives centre stage at your table in a smoky haze like an edible Phantom of the Opera. The drama here is dialled up to 10, like an ebullient Bollywood film.
But now for the main event: it’s curry time. We ordered the lamb bhoona with an extra spice kick and it landed blows in all the right places.
Chef Harry Dhanjal – who is entirely self-taught; learnt his craft by travelling the vast and varied regions of India – slow cooks the lamb for five hours in a pool of spicy tomato sauce, a perfect reservoir to plunge your wodge of nann bread into.
The beef Kashmiri curry was an all-singing, all-dancing affair too. While it’s suitably spicy, you also get fruity sweetness bursts of paw paw, sultanas and dates - the tender beef’s three little helpers.
Nothing’s ever daal at Atta.
Atta has the warmth and feel of your traditional local curry house but looks and tastes like something modern and new. Indian re-imagined.
Upscale curries, down-to-earth naan breads – a ticket to my happy place.
On Friday night I finally got to try Atta! What a beautiful and fancy Indian restaurant! I definitely appreciated the setting!
Atta's entrées are all modern Indian styled dishes. All these modern Indian dishes are beautifully played and presented. I would definitely recommend the entrees over the mains because they are all dishes you wouldn't get elsewhere. The entrees are also quite pricey for entrees but they are worth the price since they are all generous servings.
The starters that they give you at the start of the meal are different from the normal starters given out at an Indian restaurant. Please don't mind the photo... There was two of them but someone ate the first one before I could take a photo 🙄😂 They were nice.
The Indian curry mains are okay. They are spicy which is what I love! But for some reason they fell a bit flat when compared to other authentic Indian restaurants that I've been to.... If I returned to Atta I would probably order more entrees since I think they specialise in these. I'm not sure if Atta would be an authentic Indian restaurant... But an Indian restaurant with a nice modern touch.
Another downside is the waiters upselling techniques. I have had other friends who have been to Atta who warned me of this. The waiter really wanted us to order dessert although we had said no, that we were full. That can be a bit off putting but I do really want to try their desserts some time since they look so well presented!
It was definitely a nice place to eat dinner out though. Perfect for a date!

atta is leading the modern Indian culinary in Melbourne and inspiring the world too. If you are in Australia then must visited this restaurant, I believe you will share a lot experience after having bites and sips. This restaurant is rating like Indian Accent New York and New Delhi. These two brands are spreading Indian aroma with other cusines too. I saute them....
Located in Victoria Avenue Albert Park, is a beautiful restaurant with an amazing Indian cuisine.
The dishes we started off with were the Pappadoms, Channa chur garam and Chatpatta paan. The Pappadoms were freshly cooked and went perfectly with the mint chutney. The Channa chur garam was served in a wooden hand and was exquisite! We could definitely eat a few of those. The Chatpatta paan were presented on spoons and were divine. Another dish that we could have had more of.
We enjoyed the Dirty Samosa and Sikandari Raan for entrees. They were both delicious and a nice way to start the mains. The lamb of the Sikandari Raan just melted in your mouth and the presentation of this dish was fabulous! 10 stars!!
The mains came out and we were looking forward to trying it. We had the Murgh makhani (Butter Chicken) and the Machi Tikka Masala (Fried Barramundi). Garlic Naan and Saffron rice was also served with the mains. The Murgh makhani was amazing! Especially when you could dip the garlic naan in the sauce and scoop up mouthfuls of saffron rice to go with it. The Garlic Naan was lovely and you could definitely tell that it was homemade and fresh.
Although we couldn’t quite have anything more, and we really wanted to try a dessert we decided to share one. We had the Chidiya ka ghosla (birds nest). It was a delicate dessert, in presentation and on the palate. It finished off our meal beautifully.
The menu is amazing at Atta but they also have fantastic cocktails too. For beverages, we had two cocktails the Varanasi Sunset and the Smooth Operator and also a glass of Martinborough Pinot Noir. The Varanasi Sunset was a favourite, the blend of the alchohol/ingredients was fabulous! They definitely have a fantastic mixologist.
Atta Restaurant has beautiful lighting and a cosy atmosphere. Our table was a very comfortable size. It is a lovely and relaxing restaurant with friendly and helpful staff.
We thank Atta Restaurant for having us. We experienced Atta Restaurant as guests, and all of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.
I visit Atta earlier this month for a birthday dinner and it was a great experience. I shared the Achari Machli (twice-cooked salmon entree), Kerla Jhinga (king prawns and coconut milk curry main) and Palak Paneer (spinach and cottage cheese main). They were all absolutely delicious and larger than I imagined. I had the gluten-free roti, but I was salivating looking at my parents' serves of naan. The staff were friendly and efficient. I can't wait to go back and try their desserts.
Def worth dining here. The most notable aspect is the presentation of each dish is immaculate. Like a piece of art. The desert was spectacular. We tried the scallops, salmon, and samosa for entrees. We had butter chicken & a meat dish for main with breads and rice. The food was good. I felt I needed to add salt to a couple of the dishes. The serving sizes are generous. The price of the food is pretty expensive. The service was good. My only issue was I said that it was a celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary on our booking. It was not acknowledged at all. That was dissapointing.
Been here so many times and always left with great satisfaction. Amazing food and very unique desserts. Always recommend to friends and family. Can’t wait to be back soon!
Atta is the fine dining Indian experience in Melbourne – it's magnificent.
From the outstanding service to the succulent dishes, there's not much to criticise at Atta. Right from entering the door, you and your party are treated like royalty and feel welcomed in the warm and moody venue. There's no snobbery or expectations – anyone can come and the staff are happy to explain and describe dishes and cocktails.
The food is on another level. The Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Chennai, Murgh Makhani Butter Chicken, Dale Bukhara and Palak Paneer were all tasty and filling without the addition of beautiful Garlic Naan. Each dish also has it's own twist compared to other Indian recipes that make them stand out. The desert we were offered was nothing like we ever had tried. It combined so many flavours you'd think it never work but it definitely does.
With an extensive list of alcohol, non-alcoholic, and custom cocktails using Indian ingredients and flavours – Atta is the space for a unique date night.
Check it out.
Fantastic ambience, great architecture, delicious food and super friendly staff! We had a wonderful time, totally recommended! 👌
Incredible service and the food was amazing! Particularly enjoyed Jhinga (prawn fritters) and the Lamb Korma! Both cooked well and tasted amazing!
