The best in the West, no matter where we have lived we have always driven to Alex ‘s for his crumbed grilled flake and snitzel Sangas
It's the best fish and chips shop. Alex and his wife and son are really lovely family always get a good feed yum
Been here a few times now. The owners are absolutely lovely. It’s an old style fish and chip shop (think good ol 1970s) and the burgers with the lot are massive like they used to be. Everything is fresh and crunchy and Alex gave us some calamari rings and potato donuts while we waited. Always happy to make the drive to help the business out.
I ordered the flake, minimum of chips, potato cakes and the calamari rings. The owner was really generous. He gave me potato donuts while waiting. Everything is great here, especially the homemade potato cake.
Good on these guys for still running the shop and producing quality old fashioned fish and chips! Definitely worth a visit if in the area. Wash cash only when we went this week!
I have to say that I was very skeptical about this little shop. However I decided to give it a go and it surely lives up to the amazing reviews!
The crumbed and fried fish are both yummy so do the chips. I’m not usually a fan of potato cakes but they are great too.
Will be back for more!
Best fish and chips ever!!! Fresh cut chips, home made potato cakes, home made burgers, fresh fish... cant beat it. I recommend the John Dory crumbed.
What a top bloke Alex is! He rewards his return customers, got this lot for free while we waited!!
There is just nothing like this place left anymore. Come and enjoy it while it's still here.
I had been disappointed with our usual fish & chip shop, so looked for a new local place. Found Alex's online, and decided to try it out. We are so glad we did! This was the best fish & chips meal we have had for years! Yes - for years we have put up with "just ok" in Altona, but now we have an "amazing" shop to eat from!
I had a delicious burger, the chips were amazing, potato cakes were spot on.
Lastly, call me old school, but to be welcomed with a smile when you walk in to a shop these days is incredibly rare, and something that I actually like. You don't get polite service like this these days! And a welcoming hello and goodbye was what I received from Alex when I walked in.
Thank you for providing us with a delicious meal, which we will look forward to next time we decide on fish & chips for our Friday night dinner.
Was looking for a decent fish n' chip place in Altona since a lot of the others have changed management and gone downhill. No chance of this at Alex's, the owner has been running the place for over 30 years and it's your old school fish n chip shop you all remember from your childhood. The burgers are monstrous, I didn't realize until I got home what a serious burger it is, very fresh and tasty too. Doesn't feel oily like some do. Ordered a potato cake to go with it and he always throws in an extra plus a handful of chips. Have found my new local moving forward.
Chips nicely seasoned not being to salty, potato cake was good, the fish tasted fresh but need chairs and tables. We had to sit on the ground outside to eat.
Alex's is one place that rarely disappoints, a beautiful golden brown piece of fried fish and the rest when you come to this local favourite.
