Highly recommend! First date night out with our 2 week newborn at home and it exceeded all our expectations!! We have wanted to try Hayashi since moving to the area and we will definitely be regulars. Amazing service by Alicia! So friendly, attentive and kind. What a gem, clone her please, how hospitality staff should be the food was incredible too. Such a special evening. Thank you team Hayashi xxx
Wow what an amazing Japanese restaurant. We have been to a lot of restaurants and Hiyashi is by far one of our tops. Food are all in great portion size and the environment sets a soothing and relaxing ambience. All staff were friendly and attentive. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Our first time and it won't be our last. Great fresh food, a wonderful and friendly service, plus the Sake was amazing, with a really good choice.
My only dislike was the Salmon, I think it may have been farmed. The rest of the food was to die for. This little restaurant was a hit for all of us, and we will be popping in again.
We have been regular customers for several years and have never been disappointed. The new dessert and cocktail menu is fantastic.
Go there every Friday for lunch, great service with even better food, one of the best Jap stores i have been too, always satisfied when leaving!
The food was exquisite, the Feng shui was as surprisingly eye catching. Will be visiting agn.
Awesome food, great service and lovely staff. We go regularly.
First time customers. Delicious authentic food. Sashimi was melt in your mouth. Great service. We will be back.
Just visited Hayashi tonight and I must say the service and food was amazing! I think I've found myself a new regular I had the spicy sashimi salad and beef tataki - both meals were amazing and your staff are so prompt and nice to talk to. Well done Hayashi, I will be back!
Delicious sushi and great service !
Best Japanese in Perth. Always excellent friendly service and the freshest food. Would recommend to everyone to try :)
We have been here a few times with friends and family and the service is always exceptional, very quick and the food is amazing. The owner is very friendly and if you visit regularly they remember you :) good job Hayashi.
Ps. The beef tataki is DELICIOUS
Great food, service crew and ambiance. Loved our first dine here!
I've been here twice with some colleges and with my partner, the first time was very nice everything hot and they added some potato mash and soup to the food. Second time the place was busy no soup and the food was cold, my partner a very enthusiastic of Japanese culture didn't like it. Maybe I would give it another chance.
Been here several times over the years. The sashimi is generally fresh and price is reasonable as well. The bento box are good value for money.
We went on a Sunday evening, quite early. We had a couple of different Bento boxes, a salmon and a beef, with some regular starters. Absolutely delicious, filling and very fast service.
Had a pleasant dining experience here though some dishes was a bit of a letdown. Most enjoyable dishes were the Salmon Aburi Roll, Assorted Tempura and Beef Tenderloin Teppanyaki. The Salmon Aburi Roll was bursting with beautiful tasting fillings, while the beef was cooked well, exactly to our request- medium rare. Tempura pieces were light, crunchy and served with some green tea salt. However, we were quite disappointed with the Beef Tataki and desserts. Though Beef Tataki was fresh, it was lacking some seasoning. With desserts, the Japanese Cheesecake didn't have the moist, cotton-soft texture that is should have. Instead, it was hard and solid; probably due to it being kept in the freezer prior serving. Black Sesame Pudding tasted decent, but nothing special. Prices are on the steeper end, which some dishes didn't quite justify it. Nonetheless, setting is lovely and service is good.
I ordered the Crispy Fish curry Don it was tasty and the service was really friendly but a little slow. If your coming in a group during work hours you can pre-order your food.
Tried this place for the first time. My favourite dishes were the salmon katsu, lotus chips and the yaki udon. The salmon katsu was fried to perfection, salmon was still moist inside and it was matched well with the dipping sauce. The yaki udon was yummy and with good flavours. The lotus chips were crispy and served well with the rest of the food we ordered. We also ordered the Urakasumi sake tasting platter consisting of 3 little glasses of Sake with alcohol content ranging from 20% to 35%. Enjoyed my dinner here. Though disappointed the desserts we ordered had already run out.
We have been here many times and the food is always incredible, topped off with excellent service and reasonable prices. Definitely one of my favourite Japanese restaurants!
Really good service, the waiter was very friendly and professional, I felt like I was in a really fancy high quality place! Food service could have been a bit faster, everything tasted great though. My boyfriend was celebrating his birthday and the waiter even gave him a small birthday gift afterwards! And they even commented on our photo on Facebook after! This restaurant made me feel special :)
Really so yummy and so professional. I love the beef tataki most. The serve is nice too. I would definitely come again and introduce to my friends.
Second visit here. Pretty good Japanese food and friendly service
Entrees: assorted sashimi, soft shell crab both ok
Mains: tempura udon, yaki udon both brilliant
The starters were superb. We ordered salmon sashimi which came in 3 different cuts of fattiness. One of the cut was so good and fatty but it was also the thinner cut.
Soft shell crab was very juicy and came in a whole crab. The spicy mayonnaise goes very well with it. We were very impressed with the starters.
The mains was ok - nothing to shout about. We ordered Superior Beef Tenderloin and Barbeque Scallops teppanyaki. I do not have much comment on those mains except they were ok. My husband thought that the beef tenderloin was a bit tough and the scallops was overcooked. He also pointed out that the steamed rice was not using Japanese Pearl Rice. He did like the Green Tea with brown rice though.
I thought his expectations was a little high but given that we paid AUD 104 for the above, I guess he was expecting a little more with the mains.
We will go back again for the salmon sashimi but probably not the teppanyaki.
Hayashi Japanese Restaurant located on Ogilvie Road in Applecross has been around for ages! I remembered having a joint birthday dinner there a fair number of years back. Memories of the dinner were great company, good food but stark ambiance. The lack of warmth in the restaurant had always been the main factor in preventing me from heading back whenever family and friends have suggested dinner there. When I received an invitation to check out the restaurant, I was initially reluctant to attend but then thought to give it another go, maybe things have changed! Rightly so, as we were informed by the friendly manager, Jason that Hayashi is now under new management, taken over by a couple of the existing kitchen staff when the owner sold the place. They have also appointed a new Head Chef. I was excited to check out the new Hayashi!
Back in the day, and by ‘the day’ I mean 2011 to 2014, I used to work on Ogilvie Road in Applecross. A scenic office near the river, it was a nice part of the world to work from. One fond memory of this time is Friday lunches because this was the only day of the week when Hayashi Japanese Restaurant, right next door to the office, was open for lunch and that meant one thing – Teriyaki Chicken Don, order up please! It was one of my favourite take away treats in the area. Always delicious and perfect for a desk picnic.
Please do yourself a favour .Our best local
Tonight fresh Tuna arrived 10 minutes into our dinning amazing food and best service.
Jason thank you
Great Japanese food and friendly staff. After recently coming back from a trip in Japan we really felt like we were back there. You get the guest greeting as you walk in from all staff.
i've been there so many times, the services are pretty good, the food quality
is better than other Japanese restaurant, we will comeback again for sure. Thank you guys
This restaurant is beautiful. Good customer service, fresh sushi, paired with a warm green tea brewed from Jasmine rice and tea leaves, delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and families. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience.
Had dinner this evening with my wife, staffs are friendly, and we started off with the mix sashimi, it is well presented and so fresh, you can't get any fresher then this, teppanyaki prawn & scallop and beef tenderloin are superb too. Saw their ads somewhere in Facebook, such a regret to visit this GEM level restaurant only now after living in Como for so long.
Highly recommended !!
Beautiful food and great service. We visited 12 months ago, when the existing management had only just taken over and it was ok; but the difference with this visit was amazing. We'll be heading back again soon.
The food was above average for the price and the service was good .
Good choice of wines!
Jason the manager is a very welcoming !
We will go back !
The new Hayashiwas surprisingly good, especially when the "Superior Beef Tenderloin" is in the menu. The food was great and the staff was really attentive to our needs. After having such a good experience, we will come back for another special dinner next time.
Had a nice meal here - service was superb and the restaurant has a lovely feel about it. You can easily have a conversation and there's privacy between tables - a rare thing for Perth restaurants these days! However, as other reviewers have pointed out, it does seem over-priced, even with the Entertainment Book discount. And they forgot the miso soup with my bento box. Sigh.
Very friendly service and the food is very good. Just the deco is a bit simple for the kind of food and the price that they charge. All in all a very good night out with the family.
Great local restaurant. Had a couple of hours to burn in the area, so decided to book here for dinner. Great that online booking is available. We had spicy sashimi salads - very spicy! - and I had a beef bento box, while dining partner had seafood duo. Food was tasty, well served and perfectly cooked.
Great food and service, and I would recommend it. Will definitely be back.
This restaurant has always been an all time favourite of mine, after changing ownership and its menu recently, they no longer had my wine on the menu until the manager noticed me dining and told me he still keeps a few bottles on hand for his repeat clients like myself well vino to my lips they have won me over again food and service here is impeccable, I highly recommend!!!
Great food and service would recommend to anyone that what's great Japanese food.
I had a very enjoyable experience tonight at Hayashi. We had very attentive staff and some great quality food too.
Awesome night out. Great meal and friendly service. Will definitely come back
Great food, great service. We eat Japanese a lot and find it hard to come across a restaurant that is consistently good. We have eaten at Hayashi afew times now and have enjoyed our meal each time. Highly recommended
Pretty good Japanese. Ordered the Chicken Katsu Bento box and it's good value for money and was pretty yum, but I've had better. Friend ordered mixed sushi and sashimi and both were impressed, however, their plates seemed small for the price. The service was either over the top with the manager asking us too many times if we were ok, to when we wanted to order, no one came around and when I asked the lady to order, she walked away and no one came around for 5 minutes. However, overall would recommend.
A hidden gem. Seriously one of Perth's best restaurants. Fantastic and attentive service, and some of the best Japanese around. Good selection of Japanese beers. Excellent atmosphere, restaurant interior is immaculate. Have been twice in the past month and will definitely be visiting again very soon!
Great new feel. Food has always been good but has gone to a new level under the new management. They are really focusing on quality and freshness (sashimi is the benchmark). New dishes like the pork nomino are a hit and cooked well with a great balance of flavour and texture.
The other huge plus is the NEW WINE OFFERING!!!! Great selection by glass and bottle.
This place is a gem and as much as I like being able to get a table at ease, this will change.
Throw a prawn tempura on the barbie. Absolutely stunning food, hit up the prawn tempura roll when you get the chance will not regret. old mate bruce is an absolute legend as well. if ya lucky you may even get a fish carved chopstick holder.
LOVE IT!!!!. I have been to several Japanese restaurant in Perth, coz my family and I are all crazy for Japanese food. And HAYASHI is the one we chose to go often. The decoration of the restaurant is really Japanese style. The sashimi is very fresh, beef tataki cooked just right!! The softshall crab in spider roll are very crispy and the tempura udon is very tasty. The eel is very tender,.I can eat a bowl of rice just with the sauce. The restaurant manager is very talkative, he's so funny. We must pick a time and come back again this week.
Yay to good sashimi in WA!. Had dinner with family before flying back to Melbourne. No regrets. Sashimi was so fresh my partner ordered another plate. Tempura was crispy and freshly fried. They even accommodated to making kiddie salmon rolls for by niece. Service was attentive. Will return again.
Great restaurant with great food. I've been dining in this restaurant for quite a while and I am a regular customer. The freshness of the food is immaculate, let alone the friendly environment. This restaurant is highly recommended if you're seeking freshness and great taste!
All the ingredients are sooooooo fresh and taste really nice, especially the tuna sashimi and beef tataki... service is gd as well... would come again n save in the favourite folder
Nice good and good service. I wen to Hayashi last week for dinner, and I was feeling so warm from their service. Also the delicious food is my favorite. Thank you so much. And I would like go back again because I feel good and relax to dine their.
Very nice food and good service. the new manager is friendly. you should go and try the new menu.
Well presented authentic Japanese food, friendly service team, will definitely go back agn with another group of my frds
Large Serves!. Great value with an entertainment card. Large serves. California Roll Sushi was mega size with real Tiger prawns (no seafood extender in sight!). Decent amount of nicely cooked broccoli and edamame with the teppanyaki meals. Even though on the slightly pricey side, definitely feel like you are getting value for money.
AMAZING! Don't judge a book by its cover!. My husband and I went here last Saturday night for our "Date Night" and we were so pleasantly surprised. The décor is quite outdated and daggy - we were seated at the back of the restaurant where I sat in a cold draft from the kitchen but the food was so amazing. I would visit this place again purely based on the high standard of food quality and presentation. Well done guys, amazing. Thank you.
Delicious food with lovely service! Will be returning
Words cannot express my love for their Dry Katsu Chicken Don! Nice range of Japanese beverages to choose from too which keeps the night interesting.
The food here is amazing. I am a regular customer here and can honestly say this is the best Japanese restaurant that I have been to in Perth. The food is always fresh and full of flavour, and the staff are very friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Outstanding. As a regular ( about once a week) I can't say enough about this place. The food is exceptional! Fresh and tasty to say the least. The service is always great 2. Highly recommended . Been eating here once a week for 2 years and never had a bad meal.
Consistently Good. I am a regular customer at Hayashi Restaurant because the food is consistently good and the staff are fantastic. They try so hard to please. I especially enjoy the Tori chicken and the terriyaki beef. Oh and there is nothing better than finishing the meal with a glass (or two) of chilled sweet plum wine .... amazing.
Excellent Japanese, I want to thank the chefs and staff at Hayashi for making my night spectacular. My partner and I went to Hayashi from a recommendation. I was so pleased with the service and food. BBQ tiger prawns and Gyoza were delicious. The prices are very reasonable. We had about 7 dishes to share and the bill only came to $79. I would like to recommend this place to anyone who enjoys traditional Japanese food.
8/10 for food and service.. This place won't set the world on fire, it's getting a bit jaded and there is nothing special about the menu. It could do with some reworking and flair. We go fairly often but it is getting a bit pricey for what you get. A meagre meal for two with two drinks won't leave you with much change out of $80 but the food is generally above average and the Sashimi Steak is to die for.......honestly. The Chicken Teryaki is also very nice. We love that it never seems to have the usual yuppie thing of bringing the badly behaved kids with their toys and crayons. Maybe we've just been lucky, but it's worth the extra just to sit in peace and enjoy the meal and have a reasonable conversation unpunctuated with screaming kids.

+4.5
Totally unassumingly amazing. Very quiet atmosphere but the food is good, fresh and beautiful. Reasonably priced too.
Simple Food. Round of applause for this quant little Japanese restaurant in such a cut throw area for food. Each time I go there, the food is spot on. The ambience is very casual and the décor is very laid back. The Sushi Tuna Nigri is very good, however the Teriyaki Beef is the high light. Had a conversation with the manager and he disclosed they use only the best Harvey Beef. Until next time ... 7/10.
Love it!. We have been a few times and had a wonderful dining experience every time. The food is always fresh and we love the simple approach to the flavours. Sure the place needs a little revamp but the staff are always lovely and the manager always makes time to say hello and have a chat and make recommendations on wines and best food for the evening. Definitely go back again and again.
Great food, great service, polite staff, a little expensive for what it was but I suppose you pay for the atmosphere
Love it. Our favourite Japanese Restaurant, a bit hit and miss with the service but the food is great, and the staff are lovely so we overlook any negatives. We always have a great time at Hayashi :)
Yum. We've been going to this restaurant for years. The owner is so lovely as are all the staff. Food is always excellent. Restaurant is always spotlessly clean. Our favourite Japanese restaurant.
Family friendly restaurant. Our family had a really nice dinner on Sunday night, food was great and staff were fantastic thanks for a great experience
Tonight I had the teriyaki chicken main, which comes with rice/ salad/ miso soup - generous serving of chicken but a bit too saucey for my liking.
My friends shared the vegetable tempura entree which they said was delicious. One had the chicken katsu main, the other had the soft shell crab main & both were happy with their choice.
It was a quiet night so not much atmosphere but the service was good - would definitely go again & handy given it is in the entertainment book for buy 1 get 1 free main meal.
Delicious!. The sushi is the best i've had in Perth. It was fresh, delicious and well presented. My partner had the sashimi and loved it. Slightly expensive but in the Entertainment Book! Wait staff were polite and friendly.
Very nice!. Seems to be a disparity in views with this restaurant. Firstly the restaurant is no where near Melville, it is actually just near Canning Bridge in Applecross!
My eating experience was very good. Food was on time, very fresh, the serving sizes are good but not super sized, the benefit here is you get what you pay for but leave feeling great.
Greeted by the restaurant manager on arrival - very polite and well spoken (this was worth a visit in it's self, restaurateur's and many general public could learn a thing or two from this man -well done) The restaurant itself was very clean and lighting was well done. The menu was well laid out. There is something for everyone - even the kids. I would suggest giving this place ago you may well be pleasantly surprised - I was!
As for parking? It could be a problem if you were in a full body plastercast - have you been to North Bridge lately? I found parking no problem. We had a great night out here and would return.
