It is the end of an era; Silky Apple has closed down. There is a sign on the door indicating that the landlord has resumed possession of the premises.
Very good food, it used to be bad years ago, but new management have made it much better. Would recommend, not many good Chinese restaurants around here.
A lovely neighbourhood Chinese restaurant that hasn’t caught the trendy bug; serving good honest Chinese food. Went for yum cha on a Sunday because I didn’t feel like looking for a park in Chapel St.
Wandered in about noon and there was only one other party and I was a little worried. However I really didn’t have much to worry about. People slowly came in and there was a reasonable crowd.
The owners (a couple) was working the floor. First they came with some chicken pot stickers (not pictured), we rejected the spring rolls and prawn toast. Soon it was established we all spoke Cantonese (except for my dining companion!) they came over and asked what we wanted... so I nominated the usual yum cha dishes that I have (they make all the usual expected dishes). Har Gow, Siu Mai, Sticky rice chicken, bamboo wrapped rolls, pork ribs.
The pot stickers were big, tasty but a little oily.
Soon the rest of the dishes came and they had bought out XLB and offered it to us as well. upselling? I thought why not.
The dim sum were decent - the servings were generous. The har gou had two big prawns each. The skins were a little thick, but very flavourful. I actually thought the sticky rice was a little bland but there was plenty of meat. I would pass on the pork ribs - as usual there wasn't much pork. I'll order more dumplings next time - they were definitely the highlight for me. or the rice noodle rolls (cheung fun).
It's a good honest local Chinese restaurant. Good one for a nice casual lunch if you live nearby. Easy parking, quick service. I liked their attentive service - which if you have read my other reviews is something I rarely say for Chinese restaurants!
