Review Habitat - Ashburton

Wow! Best toastie ever! This lovely neighbourhood cafe really lifts above the average with some delicious interpretations of brunch classics eg, waffles, avi on toast, brekkie burrito, egg & bacon roll, etc. Nothing crazy, just really, really tasty. Nice smiley service and excellent coffee as well.

a cosy and friendly neighborhood cafe with a good range of food options and a list of specials šŸ˜Š really enjoyed the tomato and funnel soup, my friends ordered chilli scramble egg which was also yummy! tumeric latte was a heart-warming drink with bunch of health benefits, especially for winteršŸ¤— walking distance parkings are available, booking recommended if you are going on a weekend but usually there will be seats available shortly. enjoy your visit! ā˜ŗ

Habitat is a favourite of ours. It's consistently reliable for its quality of food and coffee. I've never walked away hungry from ordering a meal there.

4 star āļø This little cafe in a quiet shopping strip is such a gem! The staff are friendly, they have high chairs, kids menu and a toy box for kids. We ordered a sesame avocado w kale and eggs (changed from poached to fried) and added a side of spinach. The whole plate came out looking fresh, plentiful and healthy! The sesame crusted avocado tasted delish, the eggs are beautifully cooked. The only complaint I had was the kale was drenched in oil, hence the 4 āļø rating. The soy chai was made w real spices, and cake with a strainer so you wonā€™t get bits of spice in your tea. Love that they gave me honey šŸÆ to sweeten the chai rather than the usual sugar which many cafes uses. I would love to visit again!

Worth your money. I'm not that in to salads, but the Rainbow Bowl they call, has become my favouriteā¤ļø and the chocolate and almond latte are delicious! The staff are very friendly as well.

I've had three scrumptious brunches there and when I thought I'd found my fave I had the crispy salmon! Thank you for breathing new life into the old Alamein shopping centre, I raised my kids around the corner and have watched your progress from day one. You're spot on with all your choices and it's the best coffee I've ever had! Classy but unpretentious, you will do very well I'm sure.

The food there is amazing and the coffee is on point! Great and friendly service! I would highly recommend checking this place out!

I have just discovered this new cafe run by a great team of young people. The friendliness of the staff is a breath of fresh air and the coffee and menu were really wonderful. It's great to discover a new cafe, especially when it's as good as this one. Definitely will return and I hope it's a huge success

Tucked away on a relatively quiet suburban street corner, Habitat knows how to put on a good brunch. I had the falafel bowl (pictured) and my friend had the green breakfast. Both dishes were so fresh and the flavours were brilliant šŸ˜
Will definitely be back to try something else!

Great coffee and friendly staff. The food was tasty and they cater very well to kids. Love and appreciate the environment-consciousness of the business.

Food was delicious and uniquely presented and beverages exceeded expectations.(Great to have my meal served without the mandatory sour dough.) would love to see a bit more work done on decor but much less important than the food and vibe.

Re-visited this friendly little cafe this morning for breaky - with a steady stream of locals getting take away coffees making the place seem packed and lively despite it being well off busy high st. Definitely worth a visit
Loved the kids menu options, much more choice and variety available for the little ones! Good coffee and hot chocy.
We had the wild mushrooms, smashed avo & a kids hot cake - the dishes were delicious until about half way through when the mouthfuls became heavy and a bit meh - I feel that more complexity in the meal (different textures and tastes) would alleviate this so the patron could mix up components to continue to create interesting mouthfuls.

Excellent menu, prices, variety, specials, opening hours and staff. We are so glad to find this little gem of a cafe thatā€™s slightly off the beaten track but doing things 100% better than its nearby main street competitors. Keep up the great work! Weā€™ve eaten here 10+ times now and never been disappointed!

I always love visiting at Habitat cafe!

The staff are friendly, the location is great, the atmosphere and vibe is amazing - love the decor!!

As for the food, itā€™s delicious! The menu is varied with plenty of vegan options. Coffee is great too!!

Little cafe in a suburbian street with great casual atmosphere.

The wild mushroom with poach egg was very tasty. It was beautifully presented and the dish was well-balanced. I particularly liked the deep fried enoki.

Service was friendly and casual. I'd definitely return to try other dishes.

The team is friendly. Coffee is great! Has decking area at the back for warmer weather. Kids friendly too. A basket of toys and books for the little ones. One of the best local cafes. Situated not far from train station, Ashburton shops and the beautiful Markham Reserve.

Secret location , staff are friendly over there ! Don't expect food are amazing here , but at least above average. Soy latte is good here , if you are soy lover, you don't have to worry much.

Staff: lots of personality, charisma, clear passion for coffee and hospitality. Very professional and approachable.

Golden latte: flavoursome, made with love, good temperature, very enjoyable. This latte made me smile.

Ambience: nice cafe, the fact that they sell fresh bread is nice. They also sell various blends such as hot chocolate, chai and coffee beans. Nice furnishings, is kept very clean and designed well.

We went there early morning on the weekend and the place was packed, the locals were all lining up to get their takeaways. The food was quite tasty and fresh but we had to wait ages for our coffees to arrive because I think they prioritize takeaway over dine-ins. Situated in a quiet neighborhood near Alamein station - perfect spot to have brunch after a walk along the anniversary trial.

Alex and the team here are so lovely. The coffee is always on point. I had the Ethiopian as a long black, and as a batch brew. Food wise, the burgers are the go to meal. I also love that they are environmentally friendly. No plastic bags or straws, and discounts if you bring your own keepcup in.

Really nice little cafe thatā€™s hidden away! Great food, coffee and staff. I got the brekkie burrito today, would recommend for sure. One of my favourites.

Great experience. Super friendly and helpful staff . Lovely vibe , nice food , great coffee. Will be back!
Thankyou to the team at Habitat I canā€™t wait to try the berry cheesecake slice next time Iā€™m in :)

My beef brisket was tender and very Morrish . Eggs perfectly poached and a good amount of flavoursome chipotle hollandaise yum !!
Chicken salad: good flavour and interesting ingredients : chilli , tomatoes and bean shoots
Friends rainbow bowl , great ! Forgot to take a pic !
* lost a single mark due to a dish arriving after the others

had the burger with batch brew coffee.

loved the coffee, particularly with unlimited refills! the burger and chips were good though i think there was a bit too much going on ingredients wise in the burger.

service superb.

Service that comes with friendliness, awareness, and a ground roots community feel. This is truly a local habitat for us coffee sipping avo smash munching mammals of Ashburton. Top points for the service. The food is delicious, with a concise menu that doesnā€™t lend to wasting good food. My only suggestions would be to add 1-2 more lunchtime items on the menu, to reduce the amount of oil/grease in the poutine. The chai and coffee was delicious and hot. Another plus point is the eco friendly attitude, and one of the only cafes in the area that lives to support composting and better waste management. Super.

Been here twice for lunch (during the week and weekend) since working out where this cafe actually was after seeing their 'new cafe' sign off Warrigal Rd near the Malvern Valley golfcourse.Ā It's a short walk from the the Ashburton pool so a convenient spot for a feed after swimming.Ā Was easy to find a seat on Saturday which was great.

Their coffee and coffee alternative offerings are spot on 5/5.Ā The tumeric latte is delicious served with coconut milk.Ā They didn't have any chai on my first visit but I got to try the soy chai latte on my second, also a thumbs up, served piping hot with a side serve of honey, the chai leaves were well brewed full in flavour.Ā The batch brew is a bottomless cup which is a lovely Ethiopian bean with fruity notes.

The food menu is enticing but the actual execution of the dishes could do with a bit of tweaking.Ā Had the 'Artichoke whipped cheese' dish which was the waiter's favourite dish.Ā I was intrigued as to how it would be presented.Ā I was disappointed when the dish came out as the portion size was pretty small, only one small piece of toast which was cut in half (the seeded bread itself was nice but another slice wouldn't have gone astray.Ā Came with a nice amount of smoked salmon but I've been spoilt by places curing their own.Ā Ā

My parents tried the 'Green Breakfast' which looked good and they enjoyed it.

My second visit came with the hubby, he had the 'Poutine' which I recommend if you're hungry as it's quite filling, the lamb was tender and very tasty.Ā I tried the 'Corn & Zucchini Fritters' which was more hunger satisfying than the 'artichoke' dish.Ā Was looking forward to seeing how the 'chili maple bacon' would taste but was disappointed that the bacon was a bit burnt and oily and I couldn't taste any chili notes.Ā The fritters themselves were ok but a bit soggy.Ā I would have liked some more kale which might have balanced the dish better by adding some more crunch.

Staff are super friendly.Ā Nice looking sweet and savoury options also available at the counter.Ā They also sell fresh bread and some of the drink supplies they use e.g. turmeric latte, hot chocolate, chai and milk alternatives.

Overall a nice local cafe offering in the back streets of Ashburton.

No reading material on my first visit but they had newpapers when I went on the Saturday.

A courtyard is coming soon which I look forward to as there is limited seating inside (with aircon).Ā High chairs and a few toys for kids is a nice touch and there's a change table in the toilet.Ā Water bowl provided out the front for your four legged friends.

A hidden dog-friendly cafe located in a quiet residential area with lovely staff and really delicious food! Tubby loved it too! šŸ¾ Thank you!

Always has great coffee and chai. Food is consistently good, however lunch menu is quite small as they have a breakfast/brunch focus. Kid friendly.

Great local cafe with brilliant service and excellent food & coffee. Living nearby this cafe is a go-to for a morning coffee and snack. Everything Iā€™ve had on the menu has been well cooked and the portion size is good for the price. The owners are lovely as are all the staff, I highly recommend a visit.

Ashburton has needed this cafe for such a long time! Delicious food thatā€™s different to anywhere else. Friendly vibe from the moment you walk in. Great coffee. Great music! Just a short walk from the ok Ashburton traditional cafes to this one and a hop, skip and a jump from the Alamein Railway Station.

Nice selection of foods for breakfast and lunch. Great service, with tasty food and coffee. The corn and zucchini fritters were really yum, with a reasonable serving size.

this new cafe in ashburton has revived the spirits of local neighbourhood, with lovely vibes, friendly generous staff and delicious food. i opted for the special which and replaced bacon with salmon and was not disappointed. portion was hearty and the flavours were not faulted. despite initially having issues with my payment, the staff were patient, understanding and accomodating.
