If you are looking for traditional Northern Chinese food, then you need to head to The Restaurant, Chinese Skewers BBQ in Ashfield. Its located on Liverpool Rd, right in the heart of Ashfield and from the moment you walk in, you get a real cosy, neighbourhood feel. The restaurant itself isn’t huge but there are enough tables to ensure you are likely to get a seat by just walking in. The atmosphere is warm, with lots of locals inside and some very delicious smells coming from the kitchen. We arrived on a Sunday evening and were warmly greeted upon arrival and shown to our table, so we could start thinking about what delicious food we could order. The menu is a laminated and comes with a marker so you can choose what you want by marking it off.
A lovely neighbourhood restaurant located on Liverpool Road in Ashfield. Wasn’t too busy when we arrived but definitely got busier as the night wore on. Their main specialty are bbq skewers and lots of people having them. The service is quite good and fairly practical ordering system. The laminated menu is brought out with a marker and just mark the boxes of the items you want and they’ll go ring up the order.
The BBQ Set seems to be the way to go. It includes 2 meat selections, 1 seafood selection, and 1 vegetable selection. It offers a variety of dishes to share and try. Each dish comes with a different amount of skewers so take that into account when ordering. We ordered the Lamb (6 skewers), Wagyu Beef (4 skewers), Scallop (2 pieces), and Needle Mushroom (3 skewers). The meat was cooked well and had a wonderful taste...we were warned it might be a bit spicy but definitely not so great for most palates. The mushroom had a wonderful charred texture to it and absolutely loved that.
We also got a Seaweed Salad which was cool and refreshing. It was a great complementary dish to the skewers. The serving of Chicken With Mushroom Dumplings were wonderful and rounded of the meal so we were satisfied at the end of it.
Thanks to Jewel for the invitation and hospitality.
Located on the main Street in Ashfield, the place feels very very warm and inviting and the decor is fresh. The customer service is very attentive and friendly. The menu consists of many different varieties of meat, seafood and vegetables with a good range of cold dishes, handmade noodles, dumplings and wontons! I ordered the lamb, chicken, dried bean curd and the prawns! They were so tasty sprinkled with chilli and spices! The dumplings were also super fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this place.
