Review Golden Times Seafood Restaurant - Ashfield

This used to be our local Chinese restaurant. I miss the yum cha so much now that I live on the Central Coast (no yum cha up this way). It was always fresh and tasty. We went there so much that some of the staff knew us. I am missing the dumplings so much!

Had a very pleasant dinner with the family here. The staff were polite and friendly. The food is on the expensive side but the portions are relatively large. The Pipi's with XO sauce and fried rice noodles was delicious!

They recently got a new chef. Food is better than it was before. Quite average Chinese restaurant with traditional Cantonese food. Lots of car parking, but not very convenient and you have to sign in to a Leagues club to get in. Food is variable, but quite good for the most part. The service is a bit lacking, they are slow to respond and get things, and when it is busy the service suffers

Not a bad yum cha. The restaurant is located inside RSL club so if you are not from the area you need to get your ID scanned to be able to enter the premises. The restaurant is quite sizeable and they even had tanks with lobsters and abalone. We ordered the usual: char gow, rice noodles with prawns, garlic chives and prawn dumplings, spinach dumplings, chicken feet, mango pancakes. I judge yum cha places by their chicken feet and it was just ok (didn't quite like the sauce which was too sweet and no spicy flavour) but other dishes were good. Mango pancake was a bit disappointing too, probably because it's not a mango season.

Great food, beautiful decor, service is just as you would expect from a yum cha joint. It is a bit on the more expensive side but that's to be expected considering the location and everything.

Went there to use my club membership points $23 worth and ordered only 4 small dishes, and waiter came back said after deducted the $23 points I still need to pay $24 (total around $47 according to him). I asked to see the bill with each item and price. He hurry back to cash register and came back said "sorry, mistake just $5 more" I insisted to see the bill and he went back again mumbling something in Cantonese in a not very pleasant tone. Came back again still without the bill, he said "OK, just pay $2". I just gave them $2 coin and will not be visiting back any day soon. Overall, food was OK. Very unfriendly service and unprofessional business. Buyer beware.

Best mud crab in Sydney. Clean and tidy with good ambience. Attentive staff too.

Food was yummy but they forgot to bring one of our meals out until we were about to ask for the bill. Had to ask twice for the late meal, which meant going into the kitchen once to find out where it was. Ordered drinks and they didn't turn up, had to chase the staff twice. As I said, food was good but service was under par

The Golden Times is upstairs and inside the Ashfield Leagues Club, with a great menu and amazing decor. Lots of car parking but you do have to sign in to actually get inside the Leagues Club. Food was delicious (their Peking duck pancakes were so good) however their service was pretty average and a bit slow at some stages.

Overall not a bad Chinese restaurant, but do recommend the Peking duck and the chicken chow mein.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
When a mate suggested yum cha and beers at Golden Times, it seemed like a good way to catch up with a friend and capitalise on the whole weekend vibe. Located inside Wests Ashfield Leagues Club, this large Chinese restaurant opens at 10.30am on weekends. We rock up without a reservation at 11am and watch the space rapidly fill up around us as we wait for our guest. The burgundy and gold-toned restaurant has district views on two sides, and a big wall of fish tanks for their live seafood. Draped in white tablecloths, the round tables are set quite close together, with an obvious rectangular circuit created for the yum cha carts. Formally dressed floor staff in traditional black...

I will not be coming here anytime soon. The food was cold and bland. I asked for pepper 3 times as the waitress dismissed what I said multiple times . The first dish I received was fried rice. This had a few little cubes of beef and came COLD straight from the fridge. They had forgotten to heat it up in the microwave meaning it’s not fresh !!! She put her hand directly on the rice to feel it and then heated it up for us.

The Golden Times Chinese Restaurant is inside the Ashfield Leagues Club and their Yum Cha menu has a great selection of dumplings, noodles and buns. It’s a busy and noisy restaurant and you feel like you have been transported to Hong Kong for the day. #chineserestaurant

Not even worth one star!

Wait for 10 minutes for ordering when there were two tables to serve. Three waters were chatting inside the cashier counter.

Lack of services and no smile. Food is so average.
Hope there is No Star rating available.

Complimentary deserts were provided based on your payment by cash.

Dish were dumped on table without advising the dish name.

The service does not match the price.

Came here for lunch meeting on a weekday. The restaurant was pretty busy so we had to take a number.
It didn’t take long for us to get a table.
They have a large variety of yum cha and it was pretty good. The restaurant itself is quite spacious so they can accommodate a large group of people.

Hi went here last night. We ordered banquet for 7 ppl. Dishes came out and servings were for two people. When ordering banquets servings should be for the amount of people. They had prawn dish with 7 prawns and only doubled it when we told them. They did the same for all other dishes only one serve. Disappointing and food below average. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Service bad as well. Waited ages for entree and then over fried. Banquets should be more than one serving among 7 people! Avoid this place!

It was an okay yum cha, with quick and efficient service.

The setting's a large section of Wests Ashfield Leagues Club, with very high ceilings.

A little hard to rate. The advantages is this place has car park and on a weekend it won't be hard to find a space. Came on a weekday and you won't have to wait for a seat. The food is ok,prices are more than its Burwood counterparts but as a member you do get a discount, though I'm not sure if the discount applies on weekends. Yet if someone said to come here for yum cha I wouldn't say no

Very nice seafood!! Unforgettable lobster sashimi and stir fried mub crab.
Was told its now under complete new management and new chef team.

Will definitely go again for yum cha.
Free parking by the club is definitely a bonus

My go to yum cha. Meets the 3 golden rules of Yum Cha (>80% Asian clients, fresh varied choice, non belligerent staff) and even has on site parking so you can drive in. None of those dramas trying to get there in the city. We come here heaps and have honed our choices to salt and pepper squid, prawn rolls, dumplings galore, soy noodles, tofu hwa (or something like that) and of course custard tarts! Yummy. ps come before 12:30 to get the best on offer, come at 2pm when they're focused on packing up and you can be assured of a less than stellar time ..,

Avoid this place at ALL COSTS. Came here for dinner and ordered almost as soon as we sat down. An hour later, not one dish had come to our table. As we left, the manager gave us some bs excuse about being one staff member's final day of work, which was the reason he was slacking off and not working efficiently. Nothing to say about the food because it didn't end up coming.

We arrived at about 2pm for the Yum Cha and were probably one of 5 tables. The trolleys came through as expected, but to get anything else just seemed to take an age. Something simple like a jug of water required two, yep two, visits to reception to remind them - at that point I actually took them a glass and asked them where there taps were - when you've got a thirsty 4 year old you don't mess around!
Besides the slow service, the food is below average with only the fried rice being worthy of a mention. We won’t be back.
Nov 2017: Food took forever to come out. Service was friendly but the food so slow. Same tasty food with new menus but wow. We ordered the crab and veggies and the veggies never showed. We had finished our crab took a while to eat, say 35min. In that time the veggies never showed. We told one of the waiters to take it off the bill as they never came. He said "oh it's coming now maybe just take it home...." um no thanks. They didn't come, apologise and move on.

-----------
This is the place to come for your mud crab fix.
Great prices!! Excellent value!! Fresh mudcrab!!
Came here and ordered the crab with XO hotpot. We added glass noodles ($15.00)
On a Saturday night the crab was priced at $19.80 half kilo. We got a 1.1kg crab costing us close to $50. Last time I ate mudcrab at a Chinese restaurant, it was in the city and I paid close to $300 for the same thing...
The mudcrab was cooked well, messy and delicious. We also had chicken san choy bow and veggies, both delicious.
Whilst the XO sauce and seasonings are not the best it's still very tasty. And I'll be back midweek for the $9.80 mud crab special to enjoy more. I will tell my mates about this value. If your a mud crab lover and appreciate good value, come here to try. Just yum.

This restaurant is in the Wests Ashfield Leagues Club. We came here to celebrate Mother's Day with a yum cha brunch. Lucky we got here early as when we were leaving it was packed and the queue was out the restaurant and then some!

The service here is variable. When you managed to get their attention they were helpful but other times you would need try and wave them down without success. The variety of yum cha offered was slightly limited as the same food items on the trolleys kept coming round and the request for new items were forgotten. Luckily what we did receive was tasty. We enjoyed the steamed dim sum items as they had nice fillings and were quite flavourful.

Been here many times for dinner and the food has always been quite nice but recently we tried them for yum Cha and was left disappointed. We ordered a good variety of food, around 19 plates to share so I'd say we got a good sample size. The dumplings were mostly bland and the fillings lacked substance.
Service is hit and miss. Once they screwed up our dinner booking and argued with us when we arrived. They also refused to give us the 10% discount that applies to members of the league club.

Absolutely horrendous! The dumplings were much too starchy and overcooked and very underseasoned. The service was horrible - we were looking for someone to top up our tea for 20 min, when the manager finally took our empty teapot, he didn't come back and we had to wait another 15min to wave him down and ask for our tea. Then when we went up to pay, the manager shamelessly took advantage of the fact that my boyfriend didn't speak much Chinese and tried to include a self-determined tip into the payment. Altogether for lunch we paid $65 for 2 ppl for sub par food and abysmal service.

Always push to order expensive Live Seafood.
Received average service after turn down ordering crab or lobster.
And did not honor advertised specials.
Very disappointed.
Will not visit again
Greg
Food was very nice, but when we got the bill there were items there that we definitely did not have and despite questioning the bill with management they just said they were right! Not a place I can recommend at all. They were very arrogant and the nice meal was spoilt by management's attitude. $86 for 2 adults and 1 child who only ate rice. Don't go there!

Good ambience. Food is so so. Price is reasonable. However..they not live up the hype of it being the Top 10 yumcha joints in Sydney. The service was bad. Captain always look stressed and impatient when we asked politely for dishes or tea refill. One of the lady waitress was unreasonably rude just because our Cantonese is not fully understood by them as we are not native speakers. Will I return ? No.. there are better ones nearby in terms of service and food.

If you are around inner west and craving for yum cha. This is the place to go. I wouldn't say this is the best place of all but definitely a place you should visit. I would highly recommend mango pancake for dessert.

My housemates and I felt like Yum Cha a few Sundays ago and we were looking for a new place to try. After looking at a few reviews and articles, we decided to give Golden Times Chinese Restaurant in West Ashfield Leagues a try.
Awesome decision. The food was delicious and I really enjoyed everything we ordered. Am bad with the names of the yum cha dishes so I'll let the pics speak for themselves.
Will definitely go back with a bigger group to order more.
Apparently becoming a member of the leagues club gives a dining discount, so will consider it next time.
Was craving for yum cha and after some googling, we found this resto in Ashfield that we haven't tried before. Despite the bad reviews on zomato, we decided to check it out as my friend once told me I shouldn't rely on zomato reviews when it comes to chinese resto. Turned out that my friend was right! We really enjoyed the food there!

We had har gau (prawn dumpling), siu mai (pork dumpling), chicken feet, stuffed bean curd skin, stuffed eggplant, jar leung (crispy dough wrapped in rice paper roll), char siu puff, wu kok (savoury taro dumpling) and osmanthus jelly for dessert. Such a long list to write! Surprisingly we were happy with all of them - while the skin wasn't the most perfect one, har gau has plenty shrimp in it, the crispy dough was actually crunchy (we requested extra sesame and sweet sauce for dipping) and the other dim sums were all very flavoursome.

Will definitely go back again, hopefully the quality of food will be consistent unlike a lot of the yum cha places.

Have been there for yumcha and dinner, overall the quality of food was pretty average. The dumplings we ordered during yumcha, were slightly uncooked , because the dumpling wrap was sticky and easy to break. Generally speaking, I didn't feel the freshness of food from this place. Price was ok.

Local yum cha place, the dim sums are quite fresh. Service: Trolleys come around the tables quite frequently and tea pots refilled often. Food: Enjoyed the chicken feet, honeycomb tripe and egg tarts. The har gow (prawn dumplings) are below average as the skin is too starchy for my liking. Also the wu got (taro pastry) had too little meat filling in comparison to taro outer. Value: our table of 3 spent $17pp and we were quite full after

They then ordered the steamed egg with braised seafood. This was a well-cooked dish as the egg whites had even consistency and balanced well with the other ingredients. The corn and asparagus offered a great crunch and the dish was served with generous portions of shrimp.

The food was great (minus the taro dumpling), the service was great and the atmosphere was also great. Medium dishes cost $5.50 each, large dishes cost $6.60, specials cost $7.30 and deluxe dishes cost $7.90. Since we were a member of the club, we received a 10% discount which came to a total of $67.87 between 4 people. Can't wait to come back when I'm in the area.

With a huge free parking area and district views, this yum cha restaurant (they also do dinner) was quite nice. We arrived early - around 11am to avoid the dreaded rush of lunch time patrons that my parents are so afraid of (even though they have nothing else on for the rest of the day). The restaurant is located up the escalators on the second floor and as it is part of a RSL club, you will have to sign in and potentially sign up as a member if you live within a certain radius and are not a member with any other clubs (I think the cost sis $10 a year). Although they can be a bit lenient when they're busy. We got our table quickly and began to order our favorites. The downside of arriving early is that the kitchen hasn't really hit its highest gear yet and is a bit slower in churning out the dishes. For example, we waited at lea
