Review Ashmore Seafood And Steakhouse - Ashmore

Wonderful Iconic Gold Coast Steak & Seafood Restaurant. Family Owned & Operated For Over 3 Decades !! & This Can Be Seen & Appreciated, By The Very Friendly & Extremely Efficient Service. The Menu Is Extensive & Caters For Most Tastebuds & Budgets. SO Sad, We Will Be Losing This Outstanding Establishment !! I Strongly Recommend That You Get There & Do Yourself A Favour, While You Still Can.

On the 25/12/20021 my family and I entered this restaurant to have Christmas lunch together, we left at 2:30pm with the fullest of bellies and our hearts filled with joy from the experience. What a wonderful place to spend our time with our loved ones. The food absolutely amazing and plenty of it, the staff treat you like you're part of their family from the time you walk into their home (restaurant) and the friendly patrons all with BIG smiles on their faces says it all. Thankyou for a most wonderful from the Price Family

Had the grilled Morton bay bugs. So good I love going to the restaurant but be aware 9 times out of 10 be prepared to take a doggie bag. The meals for one person can be big.

This place is massive! I think it is actually the largest restaurant on the GC. The atmosphere is more like that of an old family run country pub - super friendly staff, the bar area is like a mini bottle shop, the way you place your order is by ticking a box on the menu next to the thing you want and the food is generous, rustic and gets to the table quickly. This is a great place to go with a group, seafood was pretty good, the oysters are excellent, not sure about the steak as the only steak at the table was ordered "well done" for some reason I will never know! Looks great in the display though.

This place has been around for yeeeeears. Like over 30+years and is still great. You certainly do not walk out of here hungry in any sense as the plate sizes are BIG. And the quality is pretty good. Let's put it this way, name mother restaurant that survived on the Gold Coast for over 30 years. Not many. It has plenty of tables, as we found out on recent Fathers Day, when most were fill, these guys still had a table or two to.fit the 3 of.us in. You'll see by the photos attached, they are pretty good meals, with FREE GARLIC BREAD!!! Struggle to.find a place anywhere else on the GC that matches here for a great meal. 👍

I can't believe this is now closed. An end of an era. We were there on it's last day and it was amazing.

Superb food and the staff is always friendly. We have been going to this restaurant for 30 years. Very highly recommended.

I think it’s a good restaurant, without having to wait because there are a lot of seats. Also, the portion for each dishes are big, don’t have to worry not eating enough. The staffs are very friendly. The bread is toasted well, it’s just a tiny bit salty, but still tastes good. It’s free so you can eat as many as you want! Seafood spaghetti is nice because it has a lot of seafood in there, not like some pastas not including a lot of fillings. However, the taste is not so strong, hope it can be a bit stronger. Otherwise, it’s a good dish! Salad is average. I like the fisherman’s basket the most, perfectly fried, and fresh seafood! The sauce included also tastes very good. The chips are a bit dry, but still tastes fine. Overall, good experience and I’ll visit this restaurant again. I haven’t had chance to try their steak and other seafood selections on their menu.

Disgusted is an understatement.. Went for a family dinner tonight for the first time. First of all, we got the menus and all nearly died when we looked at the prices. Makes sense now why they don't show the prices on their websites. Finally when the meals came out, I had ordered a large bowl of spaghetti bolognese for myself and with the talk I had heard about this restaurant, I was expecting quite a large bowl for the price I was going to pay.. I received what looked like a bowl from the kids menu and just began eating it because I was hungry.. and thought well maybe they have changed their sizes since my brother had been there years ago.. The waitress came back to the table when I was eating my meal and said Oh I'm sorry, we have given you the wrong size meal.. You ordered a large.. She then didn't even give me an option and came out with a whole new meal (large spaghetti/chips/salad) like I had ordered, even though I was midway through my meal already and felt full. I would've been happy to pay the $15 or so for the small rather than $30 something for a meal that I have had to take home. I would have rathered a choice rather than them make my decision for me that second and bring me a whole new meal out... Our whole table of 9 received their meals and my partner's meal was incorrect so he sent it back.. We all then had to eat without him as they were already going cold.. Until finally his correct meal came. Meanwhile, my sister began eating her chicken and we noticed her politely spitting her food into her napkin, not wanting to make a scene. Her chicken was not cooked properly and still pink inside. She went up to the staff and mentioned this to them and they were rude and didn't even offer her a discount or replacement meal. She told them she isn't prepared to pay for the whole meal as all she ate were her chips on the side. They then asked her how much she's willing to pay and she checked their menu and said whatever the chips cost on here.. $6. I personally still don't think that is good enough as she didn't even get to eat her meal. Another family member at our table had undercooked steak. I definitely do not recommend this place at all. Shocked to see that they are still running.. Another thing was how empty the place was and they still managed to stuff the orders up! Disgraceful.

Tonight I came here for dinner with my partner. I ordered a Parmy which was good and he ordered a med rare rump. He went back and complained that it was over cooked and he was unsatisfied about their reply. When we went to pay he proceeded with his complaint and said that he wanted a full refund on the steak because it was tough, chewy and horrible (I like my steak rare and I could see it was well done) the manager that took care of us was good although she didn’t know how to work with conflict resolution. The younger staff member (long dark hair) ended up making my partner very angry and he walked out and she started swearing her head off and swearing at me and stormed off. Keep in mind there was families around. I just think that when a staff member starts swearing and verbally abusing a customer and doesn’t get into trouble for it goes to show what kind of establishment this place is. The only highlight we had was our waiter (a young guy with dark hair) we both found that he had great customer service. As of her? No. Will never be back. Will never recommend this place ever.

Eat here at your own risk Ordered a tomahawk steak $60 medium rare came out well done so sent it back to be served a raw one and I mean raw steak not even blue when we complained the manager said they would see what they could do as we didn’t want to wait another 40 minutes but never returned to us with a response so after 30 minutes of waiting we decided to leave on paying we were told to pay the full price of the steak You have got to be kidding me Im a chef by trade and to serve a steak raw to your customers is not acceptable It is not hard to serve a steak cooked to your liking I wish I could post a photo here of how raw it actually was The other 3 meals weren’t great either Prawns absolutely tasteless and lobster was like old leather boots oil in fryer needs changing as the chips weren’t great Im not usually one to complain as I’m a chef and know what goes on but this is one restaurant that definitely needs some massive changes On one positive note our waitress was very understanding unlike the manager who never got back to us with a out come

Horrible service by the staff, especially the younger servers. Found worms in their cold platters and salads and kindly informed the staff who replied sarcastically. Would never recommend anyone to come here unless they change their service and food quality.

We have loved adored and frequented Ashmores for quite a few years, quite a number of us at a time. The last time we went we noticed a decline in service as well as quality of food. Yesterday however took the cake. The service was extremely dissapointed to the point where the table was not cleared of glasses at all through our entire meal even when we requested it to be done. I returned a horrible meal which was put onto our bill and only refunded after returning to the counter once it was charged and paid for with not so much as a sorry about your meal. I will not say we will not return but I will say we will definately think twice about our next visit...

Absolutely disgusted !! Won’t be coming back .. no where near as good as it once was .. ruined a good restaurant! Oysters kilpatric over cooked and dry and microscopic tiny bearly there .. salad was a disgrace on the meals bacon wrapped steak was steak wrapped in bacon fat not bacon overpriced for what it was and extemily disappointing ... waste of money !

Enough space for large groups. Big size meal but low quality sea food, very limited liquor, poor deserts and not worth it. I enjoyed to spend some time with my lovely ppl, not there services.
Graeme Cook
Not a great meal very out dated ,quality has gone Manu is to big to control and price is over the top it a 2 * not a 5*

Ashmore steak and seafood has been on the GC longer than I have and ive been coming for special events since I was a kid. I love the famously massive meal sizes, amazing pricing and great food. I always bring interstate people here and they all love it

Celebrated my birthday with my family at the Ashmore Steakhouse and the waitress was amazingly helpful and friendly and the food was just as good as the waitress 😍Will be back and thank you all staff.

Extremely fabulous food. The service was perfect in every way . The meals arrived on time with a smile from the waitress. The prices on the menu was perfect . Location parking perfect . Were greeted at the door and shown to our table. Within 10 minutes garlic bread was on the table outstanding Restaurant. I look forward to attending my next function there . Thank you to the Ashmore steak and seafood And all of their staff .🏆👏👏👏

Nice place to enjoy the steak and seafood, we ordered the T-bone steak, chilli bugs and kids spaghetti, the meals so big, cant finish all, had to take away the rest, thank you!

Overpriced, poor service, ordinary food<br/>, dont bother, used to be good <br/>Went last night, big place but only half full for Saturday night, no table service for drinks, was given a paper menu and pencil, no ambience at all, had to call waitresss over twice for service, half lobster size of a grasshopper and lots of shell, Tbone over cooked and no sauce, cost $94 for 2 mains, def won't be going back , was an awful experience:-(, what a waste of good money<br/><br/>Positive was that we got a good park out the front and chips were nice
Food Wizard
This is "my local" as it's the only restaurant I can walk to from my house and boozy walk home, however to call it my local doesn't necessarily reflect its quality of service or product. I would say coming to Ashmore Seafood and Steak is more of an experience one should have for themselves so I don't wait to give too much away, but brace yourself. The owner is a funny little greek? man and is there to greet you at the door EVERY NIGHT and from what staff have told me he has been there every day since approx 124 B.C. The place seems as though it's covered in a layer of thick dust with decor that hasn't been updated for decades, and colourful mismatched fairy lights everywhere for some reason. PRO's: free garlic bread that never runs out, fascinating bar/wine fridges that are semi-self serve and an experience in itself, large diverse menu. CONS: Cheap wine that's way overpriced, expensive menu, anything deep fried is fresh out of the freezer and flavourless.<br/>I love taking people here for the first time because they really make up their own rules and etiquette and friends always end up says  "what the hell is going on" but overall being pleased at the end. Not for a restaurant snob, but a nice change from the refined standards the rest of the gold coast is aiming for.<br/>Oh yeah, steak is good, seafood is either very expensive or frozen.
Freckles_matchstick
Let's just talk about the steak for a minute. My boyfriend and I ordered the T-bone steaks. Absolutely superb. Good quality meat, and full of flavour. It was also cooked to perfection. I got the bugs with mine, and they were equally as delicious. The portions are huge, which is excellent. Staff are more than happy to give a takeaway box! Will be frequenting this place more often! Oh, and shoutout to the staff! Very good service, and super friendly :)

Polite service, reasonably priced and nice environment. <br/>The food has big portions and would recommend sharing with 3+ people to have a taste of their big food variety. <br/>Will revisit as it is convenient to get to and has good quality food.
Jules Thorpe
Polite service and reasonable waiting time for order. Food is quite plain nothing extraordinary however we did like the mornay sauce and fresh prawns and fresh salads. Entrees are over priced for the amount served and taste value is at a low. Tartare sauce is dreadful. Chips were not enjoyed you could taste the old fryer oil. Fishermans basket all tasted the same and left that old oil taste in your mouth. The crumbing mix is plain did not enjoy any thing deep fried or crumbed. To my relief the coffee & cake afterwards was very nice. Overall i was satified with the service but very unsatisfied with the meal. I prefer other greek seafood restaurants over this one. Will not be returning.

Got here pre-6 pm before dinner rush. Ample seating and quick service. Ordered seafood platter with BBQ bugs. Value for money. Bugs were good. Deep fried seafood was fresh and well-done. Avoided the chips as they were not high value targets. <br/><br/>Glad we arrived early. Service was fast and polite. Can understand comments from other reviewers if place is in full swing. Service is cordial but feels configured for dealing with mass crowds.
Brett Paterson
I am really disappointed because the food really makes me feel sick it's like they leave it sitting around a while then give it.. The food was disgusting. <br/><br/>The waitresses were really Rude I'm surprised they have waitresses & waiters are just rude.
Tastebud Tester
Super large portions and tasty steak and seafood. Perfect for large groups or family celebrations. Just one tip - don't load up too much on the complimentary mega bowl of garlic bread.

We love this place. Staff are great. Food is good and plenty. Can't find any fault - have been going to this place for at least 20 years. Hope it never changes

Went there with friends.. Ordered food .. After over 40 minutes wait our food still did not come out of the kitchen. So we decided to enquire about it.. We were told it would be out soon.. Another 10 minutes later, we were still starving.. So we decided to leave the restaurant and go somewhere else.. <br/><br/>The restaurant was empty .. The big tables already had their food when we arrived.. Only one side of the restaurant was used. It was a Monday night. <br/><br/>We approached the waitress to let her know we were leaving. She told us to talk to the manager. However a kitchen staff started shouting at us that we should go to a fast food chain like macdonalds if we could not wait. To our surprised and disappointment when we tried to explain the situation, he started screaming profanities at us and using coarse language. The waitress told him not to interfere. Thank god we did not have any children with us. <br/><br/>The manager was apologetic but she could not handle her staff member still screaming from the kitchen door.<br/>We had to leave before the situation escalated even more. <br/>Sorry to say that we will never go back, regardless of the meals we enjoyed there on different occasions.

DISGUSTING SERVICE!!! Staff seem more interested in socialising and doing their own thing rather than doing their job... Barmen playing games, hitting each other behind the bar, waitresses drinking from jugs and walking around the dining room yet no one comes to your table to see if you need anything. After waiting for close to 45 minutes for our meals, our group of six decided to leave and are glad we did as upon leaving, we were insulted, abused and told to go to McDonalds by a staff member who, when he first started to address us, was told to settle down and not get involved! Perhaps if he had of heeded his colleagues advice we could have possibly tried to resolve our original issue.

It was my first time at Ashmore Seafood & Steak but despite the outdated decore, this place rocked my socks! Huge serving size and delicious fresh seafood meant this place is definitely on my list to go back to again. Warning folks, pack a pair of elastic pants because once you have a few pieces of the free delicious garlic bread, and a main meal, it's actually close to being too much food! The prices are good and whilst the service staff looked like they didn't want to be there, it didn't matter!

Love this place the meals are HUGE I always order the small meal which to me is large anyway, friendly staff, great place I would highly recommend it for families as they say you can share the meals as they are huge
Feedmerocket
I liked this restaurant because the menu provides tons of choices and I also enjoyed the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant. It seemed like a very family friendly place and the prices were decent from memory. If you've got a big group who all don't know what they feel like or feel like different things, this is the place

Heard a lot about this restaurant and went recently to try.  Very happy.   The restaurant is welcoming and always a huge selection of meals on the menu.  If you can't find something on the list that they provide , then you'll never be satisfied.  Yes , they do provide a paper menu that you have to mark by pencil for the waitress to collect but so what.   The meals are very satisfying and large, so bring an appetite.  Have read some of the negative comments, and really people. This is a restaurant where you sit back , enjoy good food and drink .

Love this place. Meals are huge and staff are friendly. Prices are cheap. I shared the grilled bugs with my son, there were 8 halves. Hubby had kids fillet Mignon and it was more than enough for him.
Brendan
I have been to this restaurant ever since I was a child (3 or 4) and I will keep coming back. The meals are delicious and huge (the greeks know how to eat!). I usually get the hot or cold seafood platter and the seafood is always fresh and tasty. 5/5 would recommend.
Sami_drakes
Awful. Very very disappointed with this resturants food. Prawns with smelly oysters were flabby and lobster was frozen so it was very flowery very very very average. We won't be going back it was $100 wasted

Visitor. Absolutely brilliant. Delicious meal, huge serves, highly recommend. Thank you

Bad food. We don't recommend this restaurant, the food was very fatty and tasted like a dirty oily grill. All of us were very disappointed $330 was spent the meals were big but tasteless. The service was pretty poor. Never going again.

Great night !!. What a great night ! We went here for valentines day dinner and were completely blown away by the service and food . Our waiter was very friendly and helpful , and was more than happy to bend over backwards to make our experience top notch . The drinks were very affordable and the garlic bread starter was some of the best ive ever had ( and free which is a great idea ) . Now for the meal , i had the rump steak with bbq prawns and garlic sauce and it was absoloutly perfect !! The portion was huge and everything on the plate was amazing especially the steak . My girlfriend had the snapper fillet and for someone who normally doesnt bang on about fish very much , she couldnt say enough about how tastey it was . We then had tirimasu for desert and it was to die for . We were so surprised with the price that we had to double check it because we thought they missed something , we will definetaly be back soon .

Food was good, service was TERRIBLE!. I came here for dinner on 10.2.2015 with my boyfriend and a couple of friends. There was 5 of us. Firstly we waited 20 minutes before we got seated (we made a booking) the staff and management looked at us and we were hauling them down but nobody responded. When we got seated we waited a further 30 minutes for out order to be taken and when it did get taken and came the KIDS meal came 10 minutes after the main adults meals. When we went to the bar to get drinks we waited and waited while the staff was standing around on there PHONES. When we went and paid we were standing in front of the waitresses and instead of serving us the would rather be on Facebook and pulling faces and rolling there eyes while on the phone to customers. I am very disappointed and will never EVER be back.

Loved it!. Great value, friendly service, MASSIVE meals.... Love love love it!! Quirky, old school setting but well worth it if you love seafood or steak!!

Dinner tonight. I read all the reviews before going, so many negative reviews, didn't care though I judge on my own experiences, there's a lot of moaners out there ungrateful and egotistical who expect 5 star silver service in a bulk simplified large feeding eatery such as this. Moaning bloody Idiots! Get over yourselves the whole lot of you!<br/><br/>We are avid foodies, an ex chef & 5 star fine dining restaurant manager myself so my eye misses nothing. And I realise myself with a seating capacity that exceeds most large yum cha restaurants it's a fair challenge to exceed everyone's expectations and please everyone's tastes - the main operation here is moving large quantities of food quickly orchestrated by staff that were attentive & polite. No ass kissing here... This is for people who's heads and expectations are out of the clouds! <br/><br/> I wasn't there to judge I was there to enjoy the experience & we did. It's as simple as that really! Life's too short to get your kickers in a bunch or your underpants wedged around your nuts over little things. There's a bigger picture in this if one looked and appreciated it. <br/><br/>To end... The food rocked, we walked in starving, service was quick, friendly, polite & attentive. Refreshing to tick off our orders and hand our sheet over, free platter of yummy garlic bread arrived unexpectedly :)... Our meals were Devine! My T-bone steak was heaven, cooked perfectly, so was my eggs, the accompaniments were satisfying for a large appetite like mine. We were satisfied fully and we are grateful. We will take our friends there of course. It's not the bees knees but it's orchestrated as best for the numbers and turn over they cater for. Just be grateful and appreciative when you go here & you might find your experience a little enjoyable perhaps. I've dealt with enough moaning diners in my years in hospitality who expect the world to kiss their ass when they click their fingers. Be thoughtful & be simple with a smile. You receive what you reflect. It's not difficult to make the most of even the humblest of eating environments. No one is better than another whether you're a diner or restaurant worker :)

Never again. Hi all i was at a birthday function there on Saturday the 12/04/2014, about 18 of us,first of all it was dark had to call back the person that took our orders to turn some lights on ! When i went to the bar there was no -one there only to look to my left and their was the bar maid texting away on her mobile phone in another world i had to speak up and ask whether she was serving ??? she continued for a few more seconds and then took my oder without greeting or saying anything? my main meal that i odered, scallops mornay.... well in the mornay i could only find 4 scallops about the size of a 20 cent piece or smaller, the rest consisted of a mixture of different colour Scallop ROE's pinks, orange, and off white i was wondering how old some of them where ,and at over $37 a meal ???? my wife order whole lobster mornay over $48 she didn't receive the traditional lobster tail cut in half with the mornay on top ,rather small slithers of lobster in mornay rip- off ????, it wasn't fresh rather old and stale much like the scallops ! at those prices, this is the biggest restaurant rip - off that i have ever encounted ! the local fish and chip shops offers much better and for the money you can go a few times and enjoy it !
Danielbarber90
Mr Unimpressed. Wow there is nothing like being treated like scum at your expense! Why on earth is this restaurant IF YOU WANT TO CALL IT THAT still in existence! First impressions really do count AND BOY DID IT LEAVE AN IMPRESSION. What is with the ridiculous A3 paper size menu that really is extremely difficult to read let alone comprehend. Then having pencils thrown YES THROWN onto the table to tick (wtf?) what we wanted, like we a pack of rabid dogs fighting over a few meaty bites! <br/><br/>Change #1 - GET SOME DECENT MENUS PRINTED UP!<br/><br/>Now lets come to the service. WHAT SERVICE!!! I would have been more comfortable with a pekinese terrier than the constant harassment ( I dont think thats too harsh a statement to make) to get our order. If it takes more than 15 minutes I can understand the waitress's frustration, BUT NOT 15 SECONDS!!! I with my wife and son only arrived to the party and sat down for no less than 5 seconds and we were constantly hounded by the waitress's for our order. Ladies what is the first syllable contained in that word waitress? WAIT! HOW ABOUT YOU KEEP THAT IN MIND! <br/><br/>Change #2 - Either retrain the staff or SACK THE LOT AND GET NEW STAFF!!<br/><br/>Lets come to the food regrettably. Well the menu was extensive (if you could comprehend it of course), but alarm bells rang when i happen to notice one meal choice. Rump steak (or any steak for that matter) with 2 eggs, fried tomato and onions? Hellloooooooo! What part of the management thought that a harebrained meal such as that would be absolute gold? Breakfast perhaps BUT NOT DINNER. We ordered (or should i say rushed) our meals and all was good for about 30 minutes. Out come the orders, or should I say parts of it. Not only did the waitress's (I'll use that term extremely loosely) mix up our orders THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT OUR OURS WERE!! How could you possible stuff something like this up after hounding us constantly to order? Then to turn around and ask me what my son and I ordered? Are you taking the mick? I WAS THE ONLY PERSON ON THE TABLE THAT ORDERED THE DAMNED STEAK! HOW COULD THAT POSSIBLY BE BALLSED UP!<br/>I finally get my meal served on a butchers platter with salad in bowl one side and small chips on the other, and a MASSIVE slab of truly unappetising meat. Points given to the balanced diet intentions i guess. When I pay for a steak medium rare though, I EXPECT TO BE GIVEN THAT. MEDIUM RARE IS PINK AND BLEEDING NOT BROWN! Adding insult to injury I pay $4 extra (thats right EXTRA) for mushroom sauce FOR A $38.50 RUMP STEAK! I look at my sons meal, a chicken parmigiana, that looks more like a war casualty at a MASH unit and i shook my head. My wife was astounded. The only thing my son could say when he saw the oil out of the cheese was,"Your work ute is due for a service isnt it Dad?, i know how we can save on the cost of oil now." 99% of the time i would give my son a serious clip around the ear for comments like that in an establishment, but not this time. IT WAS A PAT ON THE BACK INSTEAD.<br/>But wait there's more......<br/>I decide to get myself a drink so i have no option but leave my seat and go to the bar for a drink. I come back to my seat to find MY BLOODY MEAL IS GONE! I say to the others wheres my meal? They tell me it was there when you left. Then the waitress says," Oh hadnt you finished your meal?" OF COURSE I HAVENT BLOODY FINISHED MY MEAL YET!!! "Well you had your cutlery on the plate so I assumed you finished. If you didnt leave your cutlery on your plate I wouldn't have chucked it in the rubbish.<br/><br/>Point #1 - where the hell am i going to place my cutlery WHEN THE PLATE ITS SERVED ON TAKES UP EVERY BIT OF SPACE ON THE TABLE?<br/><br/>Point #2 - just because I put my cutlery on the plate and walk away to get a drink at the bar, DOES NOT GIVE YOU CARTE BLANCHE RIGHT TO JUST TAKE MY PLATE WITHOUT MY EXPRESSED PERMISSION! I'M PAYING $38.50 FOR A STEAK + $4.00 EXTRA FOR MUSHROOM SAUCE AND DAMNIT i EXPECT TO EAT WHAT I PAY FOR! NOT WHEN YOU DECIDE I HAVE HAD ENJOY. AND DO NOT PARTRONISE ME OVER CHIPS AFTER I TELL YOU NO. ITS TOO LATE AND THE CHILDISH VOICE YOU USED TO ASK ME WHETHER I WANTED MORE CHIPS WOULDVE NOT ENDED WITH THE RESPONSE OF "NO! THERES NO POINT! YOUVE SPOILT MY MEAL! NOW WOULD YOU KINDLY F#*K OFF!!"<br/><br/>Point #3 - Why is it that I cant get my drinks brought to the table LIKE NORMAL RESTAURANTS. EVEN SIZZLERS AND PIZZA HUT BRINGS YOUR DRINKS TO THE TABLE. HOW ABOUT THE WAITRESS'S GET OFF THEIR PHONES AND TAKE DRINKS ORDERS TO BE BROUGHT TO THE TABLE? THAT WAY THEY ARE DOING WHAT THEY GET PAID TO DO. <br/>If this kind of action was taken, this situation would have ended a lot more pleasantly.<br/><br/>Now the dessert. Omg the dessert was awesome. That cake just melted in your mouth it was so good. Hang on, WE BROUGHT THE CAKE! It was probably a good thing too. After the main meal I would hate to know what dessert would have been like IF I EVER GOT TO FINISH IT THAT IS. And for recorded I do not need some old biddy on a work for the dole scheme posing as a waitress handing us a dessert and coffee sheet and stamping her finger on it demanding us to order dessert and coffee. Nor do we need the waitress's coming back every 2 seconds hanging around like a rogue seagull after hot chips, when we are serving the cake. There's no reason to take the cake away unless we ask to take it back to the fridge. My compliments to the Cheesecake Shop for a beautifully made and deliciously tasting cake for my mothers birthday. IT SAVED THE NIGHT!!<br/><br/>So to summarise, I am perplexed at how this restaurant is still trading. The service is rubbish and as for the food, yes you get a lot, but the steak i ate was half meat half fat, very unappertising to look and doubly so to eat. Presentation? Well Macca looks like a 5 star gourmet restaurant to this. <br/>my advice; if anyone is looking to eat here AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!! For the prices we paid it is a rip off. I would rather pay $38.50 for a standard size steak WITH SAUCE that is great tasting than pay that for the size i got and not enjoy it LET ALONE GET A CHANCE TO FINISH IT. My advice for the owners<br/> 1. Sack the staff or retrain them<br/> 2. Replace the chefs and hire some that can cook<br/> 3. For goodness sake fork out the money and get some decent menus done, its just insulting to hand out that size paper as a menu to patrons.<br/> 4. Go to Kmart and buy some decent crockery to serve your patrons.<br/> 5. Try to retrieve the reputation you had years ago, cause at the moment you have less than NO reputation. <br/><br/>Believe me when I say i have never complained about a restaurant ever or any establishment for that matter, so for myself this is big. I hope that the owners do take this on board as I wish for them to succeed but if they take the views I have expressed with a grain of salt then on their heads be it. It doesn't take a fortune teller to see its all downhill if they don't do something to rectify this predicament they are in.

Terribly Rude. The staff were terribly rude despite our large group booking, we are never going there again.

Less than average. Went here tonight for a family birthday and must say they are definitely all about quantity not quality. The chicken schnitzel we ordered was two massive deep fried pieces of frozen chicken. Nothing else on it just a side salad and it didnt even taste like real chicken. One bite and asked for a doggy bag to feed it to our dogs. Also my sister ordered a garlic prawns and the sauces are just sooooo oilly and fatty. Really left disappointed oh and service was appaulling. Woman hassled us to fill out our pieces of paper you order on. On the plus side the meals arent small.

Service was terrible, the prices $35-$60 for the seafood. No table service. <br/><br/>For a $46 main you have to collect own drinks, pay at the bar! Menu filled out on cheap tacky paper handed to waitress. Waitress constantly harrarassed us for filled out Menu.<br/><br/>Our family lives in the area we really really have to stop going here! So many great options other than this place on the Gold Coast!

Love It!. Went here last night for a staff christmas party. 47 meals all served together, all hot and tasty, arrived at the same time - that is no easy feat. Meal size is out of control huge, the steak was cooked as requested, melt in your mouth soft and beautiful. This is a favourite local for many of us, you don't come here expecting fine dining. You come here because you are very very hungry for some good basic food with no frills and bells and whistles except good taste and a full belly. I recommend this restaurant to families with growing teenagers who are eating their parents out of house and home. They won't leave here hungry, and you won't leave here bankrupt.

What an unexpected surprise, the food ordering process seemed a little unusual, but the rest of the meal was excellent. Would recommend to anyone.

Nowhere. Quantity over quality. Surprised its not written as their motto. <br/>Its never a good sign when you have to fill in your menu by ticking a box on it. Or when your garlic bread is made from random offcuts. Or when the worlds surplus of old airconditioners are mounted in the roof. Its just terrible. <br/>Just look at the initials of the joint: A.S.S.<br/>Say no more.

Go Somewhere Else. Went there for Sunday lunch after an absence of 2 years, and will never return, shared mornay bugs, the sauce was full of sugar and fat, the garlic bread stale, the salad about 4 days old, serve yourself drinks, its like a big warehouse and not cheap - dĂŠcor hasn't changed in about 20 years, below average for what you are paying.

Pacific Paradise! Lol. I don't get what all the negative reviews are about? You pay $35-$50 for a LAAAAARGE meal. I say large coz my husband eats it and is satisfied ... .no dessert needed! Lol. And that's saying ALOT with his Samoan appetite! Haven't met a Pacific Islander yet who hasn't loved it. <br/><br/>Their kid friendly as in you don't feel like you have to keep kids 'silent' the whole time. Garlic breads FREE ... you can take a doggy bag home (which I do EVERY time coz I can never finish my meal) ... quality is YARRRRMY ... it's not gourmet ... but you ain't paying gourmet prices either! <br/><br/>Definitely worth a special family occasion in my books. Myself and my extended island family LOOOOVE this place! :)

Very disappointing. Unfortunately, we were recommended to this place by a friend and had not read reviews. After our visit we wish we did check the reviews. Food not as "reasonably priced" as indicated in some reviews. On entry given a sheet of paper (menu) and a pencil, and no instructions. Worked out we select our order and waitress collects sheet - docket given to us to pay at cashier later. No bar service - go up yourself. Food prices generally $5 - $10 dearer than a pub meal and food nowhere as attaractive or tasty. Chicken Parmagiana was not a parma but scraps of chicken covered with what seemed like tinned tomato pieces with cheese melted on top. Steak was not cooked consistently with some parts raw and other parts well done. Sauces are not included in price and cost about $4- extra. No choice of vegies as all meals seem to be served with salad and chips. Salad was mainly lettuce with a couple of small tomatoes and a sliver of beetroot - also had some onion in it. Would not recommend - try KFC, Maccas or Hungry Jacks for something tasty and better priced.

There's a new critic in town me my wife are going to ashmore seafood and steakhouse tonight I hope the food is better then what a lot of people say I keep u posted

Enjoyable. Despite all the negative reviews I decided to try this place. Four of us dined here and the food was great.<br/><br/>The decor was a little tired and dated, but it's irrelevant when one is dining with good company.<br/><br/>The portions were generous platters with good quality seafood and steak which you do have trouble finishing. The menu does encourage you to share, which is helpful.<br/><br/>The complimentary bread was hot, tasty and crunchy and again generous in size.<br/><br/>The restaurant was buzzing with it being 3/4 full. The service was fine. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful in helping us navigate the vast menu in which you are required to pick and tick what you wish to have.<br/><br/>I had the fillet mignon which was perfectly cooked and the chips were delightful. The meal was also served with a side salad, nicely dressed.<br/><br/>I would certainly dine there again and you should give it a try.

Bloody terrible. Went there with great friends only to be dissapointed. The service so so, but the food was terrible. Of the 11 dishes ordered two were sent back and in total 3 not paid for. Under cooked steak was still running round my wife's plate. When we went to pay the staff just shrugged it off as if it happens regularly. Will definately not be going back - Maccas would have been better quality at a reasonable price.

Used to be great, now the service is poor, food is pedestrian, and there is a table of owners ogling any lady/girl who walks in..plenty of other options on the coast peeps

We went with a large group for a work Christmas party. All I have to say is that after receiving our meals and then speaking with the manager we had half of our meals removed from the bill or changed to reflect what was actually received and not ordered. I can't remember the last time I had a carbonara without bacon that tasted like a packet cheese sauce! Also a few ladies ordered a chicken dish with avocado. It was a real surprise when they received the normal chicken dish without the avocado and only once we questioned staff they responded with 'oh we have run out of avocado so changed your order to the dish without it'. Ummm I'm sorry but what right does a place have to change your order without giving you the opportunity to do so yourself! Overall this was a terrible experience with lazy and blunt staff. It was a real shame after hearing a lot of people including my parents say how great it used to be. The keywords are 'used to be'. This is no longer the golden oldie that long term residents of the Gold Coast remember!! Do not go just for the meal size as plenty other places have good sized meals that actually taste good!!

NOT RECOMMENDED!. The alarm bells should have started ringing when we arrived and they gave us an ordering sheet (menu) and THREW a pencil on the table. Here's a restaurant pretending to to be something that it's not. By the prices they charge you'd think you were going to get some high quality food. Unfortunately, you get a very big plate of very ordinary awful food. It was laughable! After a couple of bites of our meals my wife, who ordered the Garlic (Rubber) Prawns, said "let's just eat the chips", a few moments later we overheard the couple at the next table say "just eat the chips". <br/>If you want to see something funny just go there and order the Creme Carmel for desert - you are not going to believe it. God I wish I had taken a photo! (Something pretending to be something that is not!)<br/>Asked for some tomato sauce to have with my chips, as these were now my main meal, and out came the el-cheapo cafe squeeze bottle and plonked it down on the table in front of of us. 3 Star quality all the way!!!<br/>And the service? Well, just stick to the young staff - they seemed pleasant. The old toads working there should just retire.<br/>NOT RECOMMENDED - unless you are looking for that top price 3 star experience!

Rude and Arrogant. The staff at Ashmore Seafood and Steakhouse are rude, unhelpful and arrogant. Don't ask for a jug of water, you will get your head snapped off if you have the same old battle axe we had as a waiter! Their meals are just "ok". ...not what you would expect for their prices!<br/><br/>I have a feeling they are only there to cater for the bus loads of Asians...not their local customers like it use to be years ago!<br/><br/>...and yeh...listen to what some call the "whingers"...because we tell the truth!!!
Stirling
We often eat at this Restaurant and we have never had a bad meal. The food is amazing, the meals are HUGE. My wife and I often share a main between us. Dint listen to the wingers- the food is fantastic

A great meal - for a great price. We came to Ashmore Seafood and Steakhouse on Valentine's Day.<br/>We ordered the full lobster mornay and filet mignon.<br/><br/>Both were lovely. The service was great (especially given that the restaurant was almost at capacity) and we were highly impressed. We even took a spare menu home as a souvenir.<br/><br/>Will definitely be back - if we come back to Surfers.

Would not go back if I was paid to.. I booked a table and then read the reviews. My first thought was "what a bunch of whingers". However, after eating there I fully agree. It was awful. I ordered garlic prawns, $27.50 and there was 4 prawns in the dish and no garlic. The salad consisted of 1 cherry tomato, 2 slices of cucumber, a couple of onion rings and about a cup of lettuce. Worst meal I've ever paid for.

What a great meal cooked wonderfully we were a group of 15 the meals were very large and delicious we will be returning for all our family gatherings

Dreadful experience. The entree pumpkib soup tasted like hand creme, oysters a little better. I ordered medium rare steak, not well done. My girlfriends prawn risotto with cream sauce was also equally bad. Honestly, this place is horrendous. Spent $85, i didnt eat half of it.. Take my advice spend $20/30 and go somewhere decent, or hell, go get maccas, and i guarentee youll be more satisfied

I only ate here once, never again. If you want to eat until you burst then give it a go, it's like being in a time warp, plastic plants every where collecting dust. The food was a disgrace, steaks tough, seafood dry, and chips tasted like they had been cooked in engine oil, and to top it all off we shared restaurant with about 4 coach loads
Jackie
Jackie. Awful. Worst food ever. Garlic bread was just that a slice of soggy bread? Fish was full of oil and raw inside. Massive portions and the worst food ever. Complained, did not eat it and did not pay. YUK

Dissapointed. After patronizing this restuarant since its opening I am afraid it has really gone downhill quality and service wise, we probably eat here 3-4 times a year, usually a birthday or take visitors here for a meal.<br/>We ate here about 3 months ago and thought the quality had fallen but thought maybe it was just an off night so we decided to give it another chance last week and went along with a party of 6 adults and 2 children, we got the usual complimentry garlic bread which is pretty ordinary but no one complains for a freebie!<br/>Then the main meal, my young grandson ordered off the childrens menu -scnitzel and chips, he was brought prawns and schnitzel, we called over the waitress, who seemed genuinly surprised that we wouyld complain about recieving prawns instead of chips....my young grandson does not eat prawns and the rest of the dining party already had seafood ordered..she removed the prawns but never came back with a bowl of chips..so he recieved a small childs schnitzel..thats it...my son in law ordered oysters kilpatrick, took one bite and had to literally spit it out, his wife tried one with the same result...again the waitres removed them with a remark that it was prob because they had been frozen..my prawns mornay had a weird taste but was over complaining so simply left them and had another peice of garlic bread..the steak another guest had was very bland and although ordered medium was very close to rare.. <br/>The restuarant really neds to pull up on its quality or after all these years and becoming quite an icon for tourists dining here it will lose lots of patrons..the meals while big- which has alwyas been the attraction- are not that well priced anymore , with a lot of the meals now in the mid $30 range.<br/>The service has never been AAA really but we overlooked that for the good meals. Usual routine is to be shown to your seat where a serly gentleman leaves you with some menus and disapears, a waitress appears takes your order and if you want any more service you have to flag down a staff member.I really hope the restuarant takes note and pulls its service and food back up to the great standard it once had..

I look forward to seeing the owners response !!!

Great size and setup,. This is the place to be if you like your meals to be huge! a steak or schnitzel parmy is usually quadruple in size compared to other places. The quality of the steak and parmy is horrible through the size is good. Taste is average, nothing special. I haven't tried the seafood here yet.

BYO-W ( Bring your own waitress). I don't think that the owner of this restaurant could do or get his staff to do any less...<br/><br/>Firstly you tick what meal you want on the menu.<br/> <br/>Then a rude lady comes along takes the menu and gives you a little ticket to take up to the desk to pay once your done.<br/><br/>You have to go up to the bar to order even a softdrink and pay then too.<br/><br/>The food is quite pricey and sure the meals are quite big and greasy but I prefer Quality over Quantity.<br/><br/>So I will remember to bring my own waitress with me next time. Don't think that there will be one though...
Rachel Quie
Hmmm..... Sure, the food portion is great.<br/>BUT quality NOT quantity!!!!<br/>I ordered a rump steak with mushroom sauce and a fettucine boscole (dont know the spelling but you get the gist) and it turns out that they have the same sauce. I was like.......so.......whats the difference between the two apart from one being a meat and the other being a pasta noodle? Well guess what? NOTHING. <br/><br/>CRAP FOOOD

Up with the best. This restaurant is huge and the staff tell me that it is not unusual to cater to over a thousand people on a single night! That must say something about the quality and taste on tap. <br/> My family, friends and I eat here frequently and are always fascinated by how busy it gets and the huge staff they need. Probably explains why one or two critics feel they had a bad experience - with that many people going through a restaurant, you are bound to get one or two with a gripe. <br/> Yet I can only say good things about our (many) dining experiences here. Oysters always get my mouth watering and whatever the standard of oysters currently available on the Coast, they always seem to have the best! Love their seafood platters, hot or cold, and know from experience to make sure that someone else is there to help you finish them off. Huge! <br/> They seem to do everything in a big way, and the wine selection is massive - most of them at excellent prices. <br/> This place is so different from any other eatery, in my opinion it should be a 'must do' on the list of anyone visiting the Gold Coast as well as those like me who moved here ten years ago and keep on returning for the size, the value and the taste.

What a great place for a relaxed meal, very informal with a serve yourself bar and large order form, the meals are huge and food quality is good. The meals were very tasty and value for money, not a 5 star place but worth a try if looking for seafood mainly and a relaxed family meal!!!
Terri
Meals are big, but quantity doesn't compare to quality. It used to be great, now the food is terrible and the place seems to function just to cater to the busloads of Asian tourists that arrive.
Angus Mac Tavish
Standard dropped. You grew in size, but shrank in standard. <br/>The only way is up from here as you have clearly hit rock bottom.<br/>Try and get that quality you had in your food 20 years ago.

Woeful. I was invited by friends but unfortunately knew of its somewhat woeful reputation. I avoided the seafood based on previous reviews and went with a steak. What a sad, soggy, disgusting lump of meat served up to me. The meals are unreasonably huge, most people ate half and the rest went in the slops bucket wheeled around the floor. Avoid at all costs!!!
Brendon McGuinness
Maybe not a gourmet seafood place but the food is reasonably priced and very nice. Prawn dishes seem a little stingy though. Well worth a visit still
Kate King
Great meals. Meal sizes are massive - my husband couldn't finish his steak and that never happens. All meals come with free garlic bread, chips and salad. Pricing is reasonable. Decor leaves a bit to be desired but who cares when the food is good? Would definately recommend it to others.
Drew Jones
This is not a gourmet seafood restaurant but the food is good, large portion size and a relaxed atmosphere - have Bern here a few times - food was better this time. Great chops and real scallops with roe - the way I like them.
Don
The McDonalds of seafood restaurants. If you like your seafood frozen and covered in McCains packet sauce then this is the place for you. I'd rather eat dog food than eat here again
