We have been to so many Vietnamese Restaurants in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Vietnam.
This one is at the top of the list! Great food, excellent service, friendly staff and an owner that likes to greet you personally. Good size dishes at reasonable prices.
If you want a dish that is not on the menu, just ask. Most times they will be able to do it for you.
This is a restaurant you will always want to return to and bring your friends to show them what they have been missing.
Bon Appetit
I could not rate this place any higher. The combined quality of food, people and price is incomparable in today’s hospo scene. Thank you!
The first thing you notice is what a barn of a place this is. You park out the back in an enormous car park then in through a back door, through a foyer, down a corridor, through another room and then into the room proper.
They cater for weddings and functions and the place can look cold and empty, but the night we were there they had a section of about five or six tables partitioned if to make it cosy.
Friendly service and a huge menu of the "Vietnamese, but we'll do the Chinese favourites" variety.
Free prawn crackers and then the food arrived promptly. We overordered (not unusual) but everything was fresh and tasty and generously proportioned.
The menu had all sorts of things to explore. What exactly are "Special Drinks"? I don't know, but add Durian for $1. And they do a deal where you choose 3 main courses and get rice and soup thrown in.
Even with over ordering we ended up spending about $25 a head and packed up the left overs and brought home a fifth (possibly sixth) meal with us.
Special mention to the lovely owner who'll chat and make you feel like a special member of the family.
We came here to eat Yum Cha for lunch. Unlike many places where you pick food from a rolling trolly, this place has a menu where you tick all of the items you want. If you ask they also have a picture menu.
All of the food tasted great and fresh. The service was also spot on.
We walked away so full and had leftovers too.
I found the food to be incredibly reasonably priced. I would definitely return here again.
great food, great service and good prices. They have an extensive menu and yum cha. you will want to keep coming back and bringing your friends. The owner and staff are so friendly and lovely and will treat you like family on your return visits. Ample parking at rear of restaurant.
Very good people
Food is the best allways fresh
Prices excellent
Only one small thing is we love the avaocado smoothie but rhey are allways running out of avocados to make the drinks
Decent tasty food at a good price, the sizzling chicken satay and the sizzling Mongolian beef are tasty. My partner got combination egg noodle which he liked, my only complait would be that the table we were seated at was a little dirty. The customer service was good though and we enjoy the complimentary prawn crackers and jelly dessert.
This has to be my favourite family owned Vietnamese restaurant. The food is always fresh and full of flavour. They have a hugh variety of dishes to choose from. The staff are friendly especially Hung the Manager who always makes you feel very welcome. I will definitely be going again and again.
Table of 4 for my family and I on a quiet Monday evening. The place itself is huge but on that particular evening this made it feel cold and empty - maybe they should close off some of it on quieter nights for a more inviting feel. The food was off the charts though. Easily the best Vietnamese food I've had in so long (apart from Mum's)!
Vietnamese home style cooking is not an easy feat in a restaurant environment but give their 3 course dinner a go and you will have no regrets. Everything is reasonably priced which totally wins me over - legit Vietnamese food isn't costly to make and prices should reflect this. I'm continuing to see Vietnamese restaurants pop up and take a "hipster" approach which often people think justifies a higher pricing but if you're after something humble and authentic then Tan Nhu Y is your joint.
Come here if: you're low on the $$ and need some Viet food but can't cook it for the life of you, you need a large dinner party/function space and/or you just want a break from all the modernised Vietnamese food.
Food was quite good and staff were friendly. To be fair we came during a time that wasn't crowded, so the staff were very attentive. We ordered from the lunch special menu, which included lemon grass chicken that was great, and excellent fried rice. The broken rice was also enjoyable and the atmosphere was pleasant.
Dinner time. Having dinner with some friends. Their dinner set is worth to try, which including steam rice and soup. A list of dishes you can choose from, I would say quite a lot of different dishes. Nice try!
My Favourite.. After coming to this restaurant for several months now, it has become a firm favourite. The food is always nice but its the hospitality of the owner Hang that makes it so special. She may seem a bit over the top at first but then you realise that this is the type of person she is ... lovely and ultra friendly. It seems a lot more subdued on the nights she is not there which is rare. The salt and pepper flounder and the combination rice hotpot are to die for, and also are often a regular choice. The extra little touches given, such as prawn chips, soup, jellies, fruit etc are most welcome. The only downfall is the drinks, which often take a while to get served. Overall its a great little place and I always walk out with a smile!
Food is beautiful and delicious. All the staffs are friendly and nice especially the owner; she will treat you well when dining in or even takeout. This is what you called best customer service. I will recommend this place to anyone.
Relly bash 40 plus ppl, other customers in other areas.good food excellent service. very tolerant of small kids. Careful as you hunt out the toilets, discovered at the end of a long dark corridor, fumbled around feeling for the light switch, luckily thought to do the same before entering the toilets. There is a slippery slope into the room from the doorway, with no light as I found when I visited.
Happy landing on a chocolate bar- Shirley temple was not intending that meaning to her song...at first I thought the loo cubicle doors had no lock, until I realised they are really salvaged from someones bedroom. slight snib under handles. I dont know if they work. This, and the fact that there are not many choices of soft drinks. No Diet Coke. means only 4 out of 5 stars. If it was food alone, would be 5 star.
Our 1st visit and won't be the last. V impressed, food lovely and fresh and well presented. A winner!!!
Food was very authentic and lady boss had a bubbly character. Also value for money!
Very friendly staff. Plenty of options on the menu and fair prices. Easy parking at the back of the premises.
Good and delicious food. Very good service, friendly staff. Nice and warm interior. I have come some times and I will come again.
Primarily Vietnamese with added Chinese dishes, this Northern Adelaide restaurant combines prompt, efficient service with a large, diverse menu and moderate pricing. Dishes come to the table well presented and hot, flavours are authentic. Now a three generation family tradition which will continue
Fantastic food, really loved it!
