OMG the pork benny the best thing to come out or baby black and the best benny in town and as always the coffee was great
Great place, visited twice during our holiday. Service was great with friendly, attentive staff. Good menu and fantastic cakes. Hope to be back next time we visit Australia
Laid back an inviting atmosphere capped of with such friendly & smiling staff and don't even get me started on the food.... Wish I could try all those home made cakes, muffins & treats! You can't stop with just one visit
This place is great amazing service absolute best staff i will be comeing back soon
Love this place and the atmosphere. The staff are nice and the owner is lovely - she always takes time to talk to my parents who also visit on a regular basis (even when they are busy).
Love Baby Black cafe, great atmosphere, coffee, staff and food. They always cater to my dietary needs perfectly. Fantastic evenings with amazing music is a major bonus for Bacchus Marsh :-)
my fianće & i visited this hip bohemian cafe on a lazy cloudy cold Tuesday & as soon as we walked in the front door we were greeted with a warm glow from the fireplace & an interior design which resembles a groovy shabby-chic hippy vibe. the staff were professional & very friendly. the devonshire tea & scrumptious scones are some of the best i have ever had. i could not fault BABY BLACK, 10 out of 10. my fianće & i had a lovely time!
The coffee was amazing the food delicious and the atmosphere was pretty damn good too. Will be going back for sure
Very friendly staff, good food well priced. Nothing too much trouble. There were 10 of us and we did not have a booking and they were very busy but they made us very welcome.
Baby Black Espresso Bar. Best cold drip coffee that i have had......
I've had this dish a couple of times 'greens with poached eggs' sometimes better than others but just love those oily glazed grilled vegetables so good especially the zucchini
If you are ever in Bacchus Marsh you have to visit Baby Black cafe for it's country hospitality. In a cute little cottage, this cafe is a treasure trove of little rooms filled with an eclectic array of furniture and decorations. It seriously could pass as an op shop with its missmatched retro decor, but somehow it works. My only complaint would be that it can be a little dark, but everything else makes up for that.
There is also a great courtyard at the rear, which again is a hodge podge of garden furniture and decor; but in the warmer weather, is lovely to sit in. The service is friendly and pretty good, but can be a little slow in the busy peak times.
The country style counter is literally overflowing with an abundance of homemade cakes, pies, tarts, slices and scones. The refrigerated display also has many cheesecakes and creamy cakes to choose from. Whenever we visit town we pop in for coffee and cake, and I've never had a bad experience with the food. Everything is so tempting, and the pies in particular are a favourite.
The food menu covers a lot of cafe classics and everything looks great. Every time I've been here it has been a full house, which means it's a hit with locals and tourists visiting this charming village. What appears to be a humble cottage from the front hides a gem of a venue offering up delightful home style food with a friendly attitude.
Baby Black Espresso Bar, you'd be forgiven for missing this hidden gem in amongst the hustle and bustle of Bacchus Marsh. It appears from the outside, as an old miners cottage, but on the inside, it's soo much more! As soon as you pass through the doors at Baby Black Cafe you're transported into a quirky little dessert lovers paradise! Although small, this cafe is most certainly mighty! With three different sitting rooms, it's a little bit of a labyrinth, but it all adds to the quirky charm! There are music posters lining the walls, records adorning the walkways, old concert tickets hanging in door frames and occasionally, live music in the garden! There are mismatching chairs and tables from various decades, peeling paint, random decor, a cosy fireplace, and a cake fridge to rival the best of them! It's hipster, but it's the best kind! Believe me! I'm the first to turn my nose up and something that's hipster for the sake of being hipster, (ok now I've said hipster too many times) but Baby Black Cafe, it has charm, it has personality, it has a vibe, an ambience that is unlike any cafe I've frequented in my time, and it's addictive!

Food was great on the way back from our trip! Sourdough is the best here, I haven’t had that soft bread anywhere. Only drawback is my long black isn’t that great but food is good 👍🏼
Staff couldn't be more friendlier and the vibe of this place is quite relaxing despite it being quite busy some periods. Popular local hang out. Best outdoor space with a great vibe! Specials board is always worth a look!
I took my mother and In law here for the first time and we all loved it. It was so easy to find just off main road in cool funky house.
Such unique cafe and so much to look at
Lots of variety of healthy sandwiches and salads. Oh and lots of cakes and desserts too.
Cafe has plenty of seatings indoor and outdoor
Friendly staff and perfect place for families in the country.
A very “Melbourne” cafe in a small town. Love the old house and its interior. Great coffees and tea, food was yummy and fresh. Always busy and staffs are friendly. A rare find for a small country town!
I love this place it always reminds me of my RMIT days in the city...casual and relaxed with a hipster vibe🤓
The cake is always a winner and the slices are ample, I usually go for the toasted sangers but it changes sometimes and it's always good. Pick a room with an open fireplace, sit down, relax and read a book over coffee and lunch and your set for the day. Highly recommended
Our local coffee shop for many years now - love our weekend ritual of a morning take away coffee from Matt and gang in the Black Dahlia retro caravan parked outside. We are suckers for their fresh muffins and the hummingbird cake. Super friendly staff and great coffee keeps us coming back again and again.
Great service and decent coffee. The service was warm and friendly but the food took awhile to come, probably because it was so popular. I had the brioche special which had great flavor. Would've preferred a crispier bun but that would be my only critique. Would love to come here again in future.
Best coffee in town, plenty of breakfast and lunch options (vegetarian and vegan as well), vintage feel, great bunch of staff and good tunes.
Amazing little hidden gem. Counter service so no formal sequence of service. Excellent use of fresh local produce . Extensive knowledge of espresso making by baristas . Smashed avo is a wonderful fresh breakfast or one of their hearty chowders for a lunch break. If you have more than a couple of people I would book.
Quirky and artsy little cafe in a small town. My friend and I went for brunch. I ordered the green omelette and she ordered poached eggs with avo on toast. Their taste is 100% and service is super friendly. I would recommend you book as weekends are very busy here.

Dropped in for lunch yesterday and everything was amazing. Food was tasty and there was so many varieties of cake. Great atmosphere with pretty retro decorations. Good service with friendly staff. Highly recommended
Ps. Alcohol is available and they are pet friendly
Love this place. Go out of our way to drive to Bacchus Marsh to stop for coffee and a bite to eat. Great atmosphere, great staff and great food!
Just look inside the busy chatter and warm country atmosphere makes this cafe a must. Charming service and decor Really good coffee and nice light scones
Great range of foccacias, cakes and breakfast food. Coffee is fantastic but on a cold day you want to get in early to get a seat inside. Favourite place when visiting Bacchus Marsh.
Retro Chic
With laminate tables, vinyl chairs and retro radios, Baby Black is a step back in time to the 1950, 60s and 70s.
The walls are littered with rock, pop and indie posters advertising upcoming events but also those from 40 years ago! While the inside is an eclectic mix of Dame Edna's kitchen and Countdown, outside is a garden oasis. I guess the best way to explain this odd combo of retro conservatism and rock edge is like walking into the house of a hippy nanna.
I only had a cuppa there so can't comment on the food. But I've seen enough to want to return.
Never disappointed here, love it! Great service, great food and coffee. Funky little cafe where nothing matches and there is lots to look at on the walls. Number one cafe to
Go to :)
I had the Veggie Patch with Bacon, best breakfast meal I've ever had. Service was fantastic. The atmosphere is relaxed and cosy, background music isn't too loud. Would definetly come back again!
I have been here many many times and never fails to deliver good food. Today we walked in and was packed and freezing outside. But we were seated outside for a short period while a table was cleared. Keep up the good work guys. Love a nice local place to relax
After a morning out walking with a great bunch of 'gourmet hikers' we enjoyed a lovely brunch at Baby Black Espresso Bar. Arrived earlier than booked, but Lucy and staff managed to seat fourteen of us on two tables together in the garden area where we all indulged in the tasty offerings. Couldn't fault my mushroom, egg and dukkah dish but seriously - due to a major dose of 'food envy' would have been happy with any of my fellow diners choices.
Wonderful friendly service with consistently GREAT coffee. Always so many yummy lunch options to choose from. You cannot go past the service though 10/10.
Baby Black espresso bar Bacchus Marsh Vic
Unlike some other states, driving through country Victoria is almost always interesting and picturesque cram packed full of things to see and do. However even in Victoria, the rural coffee shops can be hit and miss. My last visit to this town netted a traumatically bad coffee experience. However this place is fantastic. A delightful old historic house in the center of town has been given a country/bohemian makeover with a gorgeous garden courtyard at the rear. Perfect for an Autumn slow lunch. The coffee (Genovese) is well crafted and calibrations occurring hourly. Enormous selection cakes including GF and country hospitality at its best! Don't bother looking for another cafe in this town, this place is it man!
Asked a local for the best coffee in town and was told Baby Black. Found my way there and I wasn't disappointed! Coffee was on point, smooth and no bitterness. Cakes and slices galore, a very hard choice for a sweets lover. I had the Key Lime Tart, it was so fresh, great consistency and perfect pastry! Will be coming back if ever passing through the Marsh. Wonderful atmosphere, I felt like I could sit there all afternoon.
This is the only place to get a decent coffee in Bacchus Marsh. The decor is eclectic and grungey and a little unkept, but that is all part of the charm. The lady who owns the cafe is often bustling around, smiling and welcoming customers and you are always made to feel very 'at home' - in winter, when the fire is roaring, it is pure heaven! The breakfasts are hearty and 'country style'. The bread is thick cut, crunchy and really delicious. One of my favs for a drive in the country!!!
Coffee Very over priced, but easily the best coffee in the bacchusmarsh area, staff are also very nice!
Would recommend as a good place to catch up if you don't mind spending an extra dollar or two!
Coolest (and pretty much only decent) cafe in Bacchus Marsh. Heaps of cake and focaccia options. Sausage rolls are awesome, as are the bagels nom nom! Very funky decor and open fireplaces. On weekends this place gets packed out. They also hold intermittent intimate gigs.
The place to be in Bacchus Marsh if your looking for some great food, coffee and atmosphere, never had a bad meal in 4 years, just be warned though the food can be addictive !!!! Only down side DJ ding a free table can sometimes be a challenge
Delicious and filling breakfast with friends. Pancakes were a very large serving and I wasn't able to finish it. Coffee was perfect and rooms very cozy. Loved the separation of tables was very easy to find some privacy.
Can't recommend Baby Black enough! Coffee, service, price, breakfast menu, presentation, atmosphere all big thumbs up ... Only thing is lunch menu is ordinary, focaccia, frittata, pastries and salad.
Can't recommend baby black enough, it's my go to cafe! i'm here at least five times a week, even if it's just for a take away coffee. great atmosphere, lovely staff and great coffee :)
Great atmosphere, wonderful service. I'm a regular at Baby Black because there's nothing else like it in Bacchus Marsh. Great atmosphere, yummy food, good coffee and all at decent prices.
Good range of cakes and interesting lunch dishes. FOOD - Came here for a late lunch. Had the balsamic mushroom with feta cheese and spinach pie, with green leaves and quinoa salad - very interesting combination and healthy. Wanted to try the wide range of cakes but was too full. The cakes looked fresh and tasty - will definitely try them next time.
SERVICE - Wasn't sure what to order and one of the girls recommended the pie. She was very helpful and attentive.
Not entirely impressed. Tried this cafe on two occasions , good feel to the eclectic decor and outdoor dining area , however food is average fair for the price , coffee ok , not really much else in BM to give it any real competition
Gosh I love it. Quick, friendly, good coffee. Didn't get to try food but looked absolutely delicious. And one of the cutest fitouts ever.
The decor is great; nothing matches, there's international money & posters pinned to the walls & they have a couple of fireplaces, so great for breaky & a hot choc in winter. It is however a little pricy.
Yuummm. Stopped in for brekky enroute to ballarat and service was fab, brekky was good ciffee, scrambled eggs with amazing feta, mushrooms, mountain of really good bacon and rustic toast! Very good. We also bought two treats for the road. Was a Friday morning and very busy with locals! Would recommend! X
Nice food, move coffee, pity I don't usually get both at the same time
Quaint cafe with good food.. Good wholesome food, fresh juice, home made cakes, great coffee, friendly staff.
All contained within a very comfortable old house.
Great atmosphere.
I visit quite often. Good vibes. If only you cooked your poached eggs properly and put tall cheese in your toasted sandwiches bit that plasticky stuff.... otherwise fine.
The best chai cup cakes ever! Yum
Great coffee...I even buy the beans for use at home! Service seems to have improved :-)
Jean. My son took me to Baby Black for lunch today and he had the biggest bowl of delicious Sweet Potato and Coriander Soup! I had a huge toasted best ham and cheese sandwich on lovely crunchy bread, great coffee, lovely service, thanks girls! Well done!
Very charming atmosphere! Happy, friendly people around! Nice food!
Great healthy food and a great atmosphere. Lovely place to go for a coffee and slice of cake with friends. Small, cosy atmosphere fitted with comfortable inside seating and relaxing outdoor area/garden. Trendy/hipster setting.
Love it!. I go here all the time! Its one of my favourites in the area and I recommend it to everyone I can. Cute, good coffee, and quirks that more places should have!
Nice set up. Drinks were good, but food was generally bland. Pastry for the giant sausage roll was tough!
Love it. A gorgeous little cottage with friendly lovely staff. When we won't to be spoilt, we head to baby black...use to be the best kept secret. Now everyone heads there. Try it
The gorgeous staff help me start my day with a delicious coffee each morning, always leave with a smile!
Had a heart warming soup and my friend had a slice with a lovely fresh salad. Tasty food and by far the best coffee in town. Will be back!
Very nice breakfast and coffee. Will be back
Nice little place. Ive been to this place 4 times now for breakfast. The atmosphere has always been the best in town I love the little home used. However the food is usually only average, 3 times out of 4 the food has been below average. The staff is always great, but the food always let's down the whole experience.
Homemade Food. Took Mum for a day trip from Melbourne to Bacchus Marsh. We had yummy homemade soup with bread. Best food in Bacchus Marsh. Always call in here when Im in town....
This little cafe is the greatest! i wouldn't go any where else in Bacchus Marsh, i highly recomend it if you are travelling through or live close by. Fresh tasty food, perfect coffee (how ever you like it) and lovely cakes which anyone would enjoy!! the staff are super helpful and very friendly. not to mention the beautiful atmoshere! a relaxing court yard, walking into the cafe feels like stepping back in time with the retro tables, chairs, music posters, books and fire places. Some Saturday nights there is live music to good to miss!
What a fab n funky place! Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of BB. Highly recommended if you happen to be in the area :)
Had a delicious breakfast out in the charming little courtyard. Friendly service. Would happily return.
Delish!. Awesome staff, awesome coffee and breakfast! Love how there's a variety of vegetarian options to choose from!
Great!. The staff were so attentive and friendly. These are the kinds of people who should be working in hospitality!
The coffee is alright (no where near bad enough to warrant adding sugar!) and the cakes looked sensational if not a little pricey, but I assume they were all home made.
I had the salmon and ricotta strudel and was little disappointed that the salmon was from can, it would have been better fresh. But everything else was fantastic!
Loved the cute little cottage with the fires burning bright.
Awesome place. Friendly staff. tasty and exciting food, everyone should try it :D
This place has such an amazing atmosphere and great staff. There's always something new and tasty to try everytime I go.
Lovely meal, great coffee and the lemon tart is to die for!!!
