It’s been such a treat being near a Glick’s for once in my Melbourne life. I must confess I haven’t worked my way through that many of their offerings. I just love having their bagels and never venture to anything else. And it’s close to the house! Heading around the corner to Glick’s has been part of my Sunday ritual for some time now. I can’t believe they’re only $1.50 and how excitingly seedy they are.
Friendly staff, yummy bagels and other baked treats. Unpretentious, tasty, old school offerings at reasonable prices. BUT they use way too much single use plastic. If/When they cut back their unnecessary use of plastic bags, I’ll very happily change my rating to 5 stars.
Finally got to try Glick’s today after it being on my list for an eternity. Walked out with some chewy, squishy bagels fresh out of the oven. My mouth is watering just typing this. The hype is warranted, the bagels are extremely good.
Glick's is my go to place to buy challah. They sell challah without the egg wash as well to allow for a more ethical shabbat experience. Make sure you have cash as they don't accept card for purchases under $10.
I’ve had their bagels and challah which were amazing from Safeway
So I decided to try the fresh version
Their pastries are mediocre, nothing special
Yet their bagels once again were the most amazing ones I’ve had
I would only return there to have their bagels and challah, which are so addictive
Would recommend
This place does some things really well including bagels, egg dip and fish balls. Their cakes though are just ordinary. They also make the best challah in melbourne, especially on Fridays
Not the best service and it could do with maybe a line drawn on the ground for an orderly queue but I custom make a sandwich quite regularly, the bread is so fresh and delicious and the fillings are all fresh. Bagels always are good, I especially like the Pizza one. Overall, slightly overpriced, average service but amazing food.
Must be embedded in their culture ....
Breaking bread every Friday; I'm referring to the Sabbath would require a bread, hence baking bread would be a daily thing, a skill they honed to perfection. The Jewish people have been doing it for thousands of years, hence nothing fancy nor artisan but their stuff is just divine.
Always a joy visiting Glick's, although it's far far away ......
The Swine used to live around the corner in Westbury Street, which half the world also appears to have done at one point in time. Glicks is an East St Kilda and Melbourne institution. The Swine went back in time yesterday and not much has changed. The range of bagels here is still plentiful and the quality is still fabtastic. The range of cakes leaves the Swine thinking of Seinfeld and the Bubka cake episode. Is this a Jewish thing? All up the Swine does love what Glicks do - their poppy seed bagels cannot be beaten. Mozel Tov! Love!!!
Despite criticism from previous reviews about it being unclean, having poor service etc, I have always been satisfied with Glicks.
It's hard to find better bagels, poppy seed cakes, challah etc.
You obviously don't come here for a barista coffee or a gourmet meal. You have a multitude of breads, pastries, bagels and cakes to choose from.
Anyone who likes a bit of traditional Poland or Mitteleuropa will not be disappointed here.
It's the traditional place to buy bagels, and yes, they are still great after all these years, be about time the place had aface lift though!
Nice variety, lots of bagels were sold out and we were there midday. Had a salmon cream cheese bagel that was overloaded with capers, too salty for my liking. Bagels itself were delicious
I just discovered Glicks as my friend brought over Bagels today which were incredible, extremely flavourful, fresh and clearly made with care and precision.
Side note but to the lady in the reviews below who gave Glicks a bad review based on serving customers without a mask on, I would suggest to that lady to pay attention to the law as businesses are not allowed to discriminate based on mask exemptions and that lady should not assume someone's health condition based on appearance. There needs to be more awareness about this and I'm upset to see that someone would use this as a reason to give a wonderful family business a much undeserved bad review.
I will be visiting your outlets soon Glicks thankyou for your fabulous skill and expertise.
Finally got lunch at a bagel shop in Melbourne. Our family each enjoyed our own custom bagel sandwiches, taking them down the road to picnic area at Caulfield Park.
Loading up on carbs this weekend from the iconic Baker Bleu! There is definitely a bit of magic brewing at their bakery because everything I ordered from the Country Loaf to the Sesame Challah tasted like dreams and happiness ✨😍. Best decision I’ve made all lockdown!! 100% reccomend if you live within their radius or save it for post lockdown treats!
