My local go to spot for Japanese - and a destination if I wasn't living in the area.
Everything about Mr. Ryu is an unrelenting promise of quality.
From the lunch menu the chicken katsu (curry/sando) is amongst the best in the city, light, crispy and very juicy. Rare to find outside of Japan.
From the dinner menu, the tataki, the shortribs, the tacos and the gyoza are all must eats. It is not pure authentic Japanese, but the menu is provides a flexible mix of diner favourites and refined, gourmet dishes.
Mr Ryu is a great place with fantastic food. It’s a lovely relaxed place with great service and the food is incredible!
Wonderful restaurant, most delicious dining experience! Such tasty and beautiful dishes that kept us ordering more although we were stuffed! Excellent service too:). We will be back often!
I’d usually regard Japanese as too pure a cuisine to interfere with. But I’d certainly make an exception for Mr Ryu. The fusions here are bright, considered, creative and delicious. Great menu, great food, great service, great value
The signature eggplant is simply amazing! Melt in the mouth. Best eggplant I have ever tried. And this teishoku lunch has the best value for money.
I love Japanese food and this is hands down some of the most delicious Japanese I’ve ever had. The spicy tuna tacos and tofu salad are a must! Also great atmosphere and lovely staff - highly recommend!
The soba noodle salad was outstanding. The gyozas were my partner’s fave. Every dish was delicious, light and fresh. We had the spicy watermelon salad, eggplant dish, sashimi platter, miso soup, oysters and tuna taco. I will be coming back and want to try everything else!
we have visited here so many time, always felt full and happy to get out of the door. They started a new menu recently with more options such as charcoal BBQ and dessert. Everything was so nice, fresh and beautiful favours. Gonna be back to try the rest of the menu ^_^

So glad I finally got the chance to try their teishoku banquet set menu! I love set menu! It gives you a bit of everything! The food was fresh, and you could really tell how much effort goes to cooking each dish! Absolutely amazing, and wouldn’t mind coming back!
This is a gem of a restaurant, the food and service is of a very high standard with impressive presentation as well of the food.
Was very impressed with the Prawn Nori Taco and the Hiramasa Kingfish Sashimi just melted in the mouth.
The slow cooked Beef Short Ribs was so tender and tasty.
Great selection of Sake and enjoyed a flight.
Definitely will be back and highly recommend a visit if you love Japanese food.

Nice and very attentive staff. We had few dishes, each one was incredible,planty of flavour and originality. The menu
offers options for any kind of diet or taste, such as vegan or gluten free. Great choices of drinks as well.

I fell in love with this place instantly because they had Yuzu sake! Actually they have a great selection of drinks and the food is divine. The food is a little more fusion that pure Japanese, using local ingredients. I like this as it keeps the 'mebutsu' feel of the food. Lots of choices too for vegetarian and vegans - my friend wanted to just eat vegan and we did and it was fantastic. The Agedashi tofu with truffle oil was amazing! Lovely people, great service. Perfect for a quick bite of a long dinner - can't recommend it highly enough!

Wow! So delicious and incredible friendly service.
I had tacos and ramen with a cheeky sake.
I can't even do justice with a description on both... especially the spicy prawn tacos.
Light, crispy melt in the mouth goodness of taco outside, then this delicate but beautiful favour explosion of ingredients inside. Heaven!
The ramen was just so hearty, filling and healthy.
And i just fell in love with the open hearted warmth of the host.
I'll be a regular.

Was a perfect meal. 10/10 for food and service. This intimate well decorated Japanese restaurant would not be out of place on any city’s best dining list. Great sake, whiskey and wine selection and perfect chef’s menu
