Review Holy Smokes Barbecue - Ballarat

Protein heaven. The southern fried chicken was ordinary. The serving was good size and the burgers looked decent. Each of the sauce goes well with what they recommend. But if you like everything hot, they have one for that too.

The place lacks atmosphere but the server was friendly and very open to suggestions. As an American, I didn't find this to be at all like home. The coleslaw was dry and the meat overcooked. The baked beans were too thick and lacked flavor (add a touch of bacon). The potato salad was more Mexican than Texas. The burgers were large.

Good food, good service. Price is reasonable $12-15 for a pretty decent sized burger that always fills me up. Fries are good and a good spot for kids as they have paper on the tables for drawing with pencils.. Keeps my little guy happy for ages. Regular customer, will be returning.

Service was great and the meat was very tender, but I was a little disappointed with how dry it all was. I love my smoked meats but feel they might need to experiment a bit more to try and perfect the cooking method so that the meat is not dry when served on the plate.

Dont normally throw my two cents in but holy smokes, that was bloody amazing. Feed could have easily fed two but we dont have smoke houses back home so i had to make do by myself. Brisket was my pick but the lamb shoulder was a close second.

Does what it says on the box. You want meat to shove in your meat hole, this is the place to meat. Because meat! All meat is gluten free, as are the sides (excluding the mac 'n' cheese); so all you glutards can get your meat on without fear. Quality is excellent, will be a regular! #meat #moist

Customer service is top notch but unfortunately their food was not. There meat was not melt in your mouth fall apart it was very chewy and lots of fat that had not been rendered for long enough. Their fries were ok not hot though. I was on holidays in Ballarat when we went here for dinner, probably won't be going here next time.

After trying the best American BBQ joints Melbourne has to offer, Holy Smokes certainly had some big shoes to fill. Let me tell you, they SMASHED all expectations. For starters, the beef short rib. Well that fell straight off the bone, with not a single bit of meat left behind. Knife and fork? Please, my hands can work this one out. The brisket was absolute perfection and could be cut with a spoon if necessary. Now I'm the first to admit i'm not the biggest fan of pork, though the pulled pork was gone from the plate almost before it had been placed in front of me. Additionally the ultra friendly staff service and flexibility of BYO added to the experience. Holy Smokes - keep doing what you're doing! I will be back!

The food is absolutely amazing - could not fault anything. All of the meat is incredibly tender and has heaps of flavour and the staff are really friendly. I really love that the serving sizes are displayed clearly on the menu so you know exactly what you're getting! Plus the staff helped talk us through the menu and explained how much food we would need. Could not recommend more highly!!!

I had a brisket roll with coleslaw. It was fantastic, a good meal size and well worth the price. The sauces are fantastic. Totally recommend.

Tried out the new menu and was very impressed!! The plates are the way to go to get to try a bit of everything! Pulled lamb was my fave! Added the mac n cheese which is prob the best I've tasted! Staff were extremely friendly and were able to help me out with special dietary requirements!

OMFG;!!!!!! Words can't even describe how amazing this food is.... If I could give u 10 stars I would, new favorite place to eat absolutely loved it. The staff were great and friendly and what topped it off for me is that I could enjoy a beer while eating, amazing job guys, well done

My friend and I decided to visit Holy Smokes because we were in Ballarat and I’m a Texan. This was great!! I got the Spicy Texan and it was so delicious. I recommend going here if you like brisket and American bbq. Yummy.

My first visit to Holy Smokes last night. I was only after a little meat to put on top of some nachos for something different. I was greatly impressed. The pulled pork had the flavour, and tenderness I was after. The Brisket was out of this world, made our nachos the best ever according to the missus!

The only authentic American BBQ in Ballarat. The Brisket is cooked perfectly and the Fried Chicken is the best I have had since moving to Australia. Friendly and quick service, I highly recommend for anyone looking for quality BBQ in regional Victoria.
