Review Rosso Pomodoro Pizzeria - Balmain

Mehdi Hatemi
It's a nice little Italian restaurant. Pasta option isn't the best and serving won't fill you up. Pizza was tasty but I love my wood fire pizza. Great service friendly staff
Ray Zhou
Again, their quality is absolutely second to none. I have given a 5/5 review for their Bondi Junction restaurant, and this Balmain restaurant deserves the same. Food was immaculate as always, and every single time I walk out of the restaurant feeling that I have over eaten just because of how delicious the pizzas and desserts are; not to mention their impressive range of imported Italian beers. You can truly tell the dedication and pride the husband and wife owners place in their business. I have lost count of the amount of times I have visited Rosso Pomodoro, and I will continue to eat there again and again as long as the restaurants still stand. Rosso Pomodoro is definitely responsible for the excess kilos on me, however every single one of those kilos are absolutely worth it. I would give this restaurant more stars if I could. Thank you for the great experiences, and the food comas.

Margherita is perfect! but the special (truffle) wasn’t good.😭

The Bruschetta pizza is to die for! Amazing as a entree but would be just as good as a main! The base is always incredible- fluffy but crisp/crunchy outside. Any prosciutto pizza is fantastic! Their specials board (comes & goes) rocket, prosciutto & fig pizza tastes so light and refreshing. My dads go to pizza if On their specials board is their chilli, cherry tomato and prawn pizza as pictured below. This restaurant is my favourite pizza place In Sydney! The service they provide is great! Definitely a must go for good pizza! The restaurant can get a little loud but the food is well worth it!

The best pizza I have ever had. So fresh and yummy.
Ireny Rose
Perfect pizza. They only make pizza and antipasto platters and that’s all you need. So damn good! Great value and consistent in flavour every time. Cannot fault this place.
Andrew Thornton
Absolutely another top pizza spot in Sydney. If you love the large, floppy pizza with a thin (delicious) base, you will love this place. There are a lot of pizza joints in Sydney, however if you want one of the best, this is the place. Every bite was on point.
Logan Williams
The best pizzas in Sydney, hands down. Look no further wasting your time. Do yourself a favour and try their pizza (Margarita Regina), you will become a lifetime customer 👌🏻👍🏼

Rosso Pomodoro is my favourite pizzeria in Sydney. We have been eating there since 2006 and it never disappoints. The pizza bases are thin and the toppings are always seasonal and very Italian. They don’t do ham and pineapple and they don’t do half half. It’s casual and now licensed but you can BYO. The service is always excellent. It’s the perfect week night treat. #rossopomodoro

I came here with my mum and sisters and got a table facing outside. The service was outstanding and they had a great time.
The Margeret is pizza rivals some of Sydney’s greats.
We also had the yummy bruschetta and the lasagne.
Place is also BYO.

Sausage and Potato pizza - very good.
Capriciosa pizza - good
Rosso Pomodoro salad - great
Special rocket, pear, walnuts and truffle cheese - delicious
Fantastic, friendly service and a nice cozy atmosphere.

Started out with the Antipasto Della Casa, and it had a wonderful selection of cured meats, cheeses, bread sticks, and fresh olives. The highlight of the dinner was the Tartufo Pizza, and it had more than a generous serving of truffles. Hopefully it will make its way on to their permanent menu, as this was on the specials board. Excellent authentic Italian food.

The pizza was great. However, they explained to us we couldnt drink the beer we had brought as they offer beer on the menu. BYO wine was allowed (which is also sold on the menu?). A glass of red wine was accidentally spilt on us by the waitress but we were still charged for corkage. Excellent food, not great service.
Phfat
Really good pizza here! Thin base and puffy crusts, they also have vegan options. I ordered the vegetarian pizza which was yum, I think I would probably get a spicy/salami option next time.
Alex
Oh I’m sorry, were you looking for an average pizza place? HOW ABOUT THE BEST PIZZA PLACE IN THE WORLD! Everything about Rosso oozes genuine Italian, from the service, to the BYO wine, to the simple yet amazingly satisfying pizza. I recommend starting with olives and creating your own board, the Jamon is expensive but well worth it, get a couple of cheeses but avoid breadsticks so not to fill up prematurely before the pizza.

And make sure to leave room for desert, specially made cheesecakes fresh every day and a modest selection of gelato will leave you wanting to come back just for the desert.

We have been coming here for years. Yes, the acoustics are poor and the service is usually rushed (but still friendly) - because they are always full up, which is clearly a good sign anyway, so thank your lucky stars you got a seat.
Dunno about the pasta - we never get past the fabulously authentic Napoli-style pizzas, with their fresh and rich ingredients.

After reading rave reviews finally tried Rosso, but sadly was quite disappointed with the food. Our penne Rosso were not rarely but hardly cooked. Maybe we should have only tried their Pizza, which is what this restaurant is more known for. It was very busy and seemed quite popular with locals. Service felt rushed.

Food:2.0
Ambience:3.5
Service:2.5
VFM: 2.5

Great pizza! This is our go to for pizza in Sydney and helps that its close to home. Always perfectly cooked and deliciously wood fired pizza. We always get one tomato and one white base plus a salad to share between us and it's always delicious. We've also taken family a few times and ordered the antipasto della casa to share which includes a generous helping of meat, cheese, bread sticks and antipasto, highly recommended. BYO wine is an added bonus. The place has a casual yet friendly vibe. Booking is recommeded as this place gets packed. A must go for anyone visiting inner west Sydney

Couldn't agree with Carly (below) more. This place is the bomb. Even the over-the-top, garish 80s decor is easily subsumed by the epic authentic sourdough pizza from Ketty and the team. Simply amazeballs. Would be great if they invested in some pumping sounds but even that's a bit harsh, may not be everyone's cup of tea but I personally like the ode to Italian folk music and Stevie G. xx
Anjeanette Cansino
Yummy!! Everything is served fresh and hot! The place is very small though, you can hear the other tables talking and you need to talk loud to make yourself heard. Good for family and groups.
Jen
Base is awesome!! We had this for the first tine last night - fungi and prosciutto Iberico. Pick up is quite the challenge with parking but so worth it !! I want to try the truffle one you read about - will be back to eat in next time :)

Perfection in authentic Neapolitan style pizza!
Very accomodating and warm staff - Impeccable service. Cool atmosphere, good drinks menu. Family friendly. Couldn't ask for more!
Excellent pizza , good prices. Friendly service.
Nutella Calzone is their signature desert, and rightly so very tasty. I strongly recommend this place, very casual and relaxed atmosphere
I simply cannot rate Rosso Pomodoro highly enough. Authentic and completely mind-blowingly great pizzas (simple traditional combinations, no menu changes and ultimately: damn fantastic), beautiful Italian produce across the entire menu including delish antipasto options and great wine too.
I'd eat here every day if I could.
One of my all time favourite dinner spots in Sydney. If you haven't been, you're seriously missing out.
Make sure to book. This place is popular for a reason.
Chicca Fumagalli
One of the best pizzas in Sydney!
Very Italian style.
It's a small place so it becomes busy easily.
Good staff.
The only problem is if you need the toilet because you have to go outside and walk around the building, which is annoying. But the good authentic food makes up for this lack.
Sal Eats Sydney
Booked for a Saturday night so we could try their truffle pizza. Staff were friendly and service was quick and efficient. Antipasto platter we had to start was delicious, especially their homemade breadsticks. Prosciutto pizza had a lovely thin crisp crust and the San Daniele prosciutto was sweet and flavoursome. Truffle was a delicious addition, $15 for 5 grams.

It's only a small restaurant so it's bit of a tight fit and not much space between tables. Wait for food was minimal which was a plus. Great for a quick dinner, but it's BYO so if you want to enjoy an intimate dinner as well you can.

I'd return to try their other pizzas, but only if I was in the area.
Anna
Oh my goodness this place is soooo good! The ingredients are so ridiculously fresh that even the most basic and simple things taste divine!! 😍 We ordered the bruschetta which came out absolutely overflowing with tomatoes, and this was so simple but so delicious. Every bite was fresh and clean and juicy. They had no vegan salads on the menu (go figure) but were more than happy to accommodate and replaced the parmesan with a generous serving of the juicy tomatoes. Ahh, love! Honestly, I have never enjoyed a salad this much in my life. 😜

There are 4 vegan pizzas on the menu, with vegan cheese ❤, so we went with the one with most variety of toppings - vega riana. This too was delightful, I think because the crust is so good anything they make will be top-notch, but I preferred the simple bruschetta. Just by a tiny bit!

Service was also really great and helpful, so it was an all round lovely dinner. Would recommend this place!

One of the better pizza experiences we've ever had in Aus. True to Italian style - really authentic bases, generous and very high quality toppings (think high end mozzarella and Jamon iberico), lovely wait staff and quick service. Cannot say enough. Very happy customers and will recommend to all of our Sydney-Bound friends in the future

Rosso Pomodoro Pizzeria is a popular restaurant in the up-and-coming suburb of Balmain which serves a range of traditional and artisanal pizzas. The proliferation of pizzerias and other Italian restaurants in Sydney can be traced to the waves of migrants from Mediterranean countries during the 1850s gold rush. How does Rosso compare to heavyweights like Hugo's Manly and Gigi?

In my opinion, pizzas at Rosso fall flat (literally) of the competition. I tasted the fungi pizza (in restaurant) and Nutella calzone (Takeaway) but was disappointed with both the taste and the crust. The funghi pizza is huge but its thin crispy crust is unable to support the weight of all the ingredients and becomes a mushy mess. Furthermore, the crust at the edges is so thick that it resembles a bread. The problem with the crust extends to the Nutella calzone. The crust is so thick that I spend a thousand years trying to chew the bread-like pizza and my jaws hurt like a limp, flaccid machine afterwards.

Nonetheless, the Nutella calzone is probably the most sinful dessert in Sydney. Topped with a thick and rich layer of Nutella and almond flakes, I am utterly surprised to discover an even thicker layer of Nutella in the interior of the calzone. All the gym and healthy food have gone to waste!! It seems like the pizza chefs have used a whole bottle of Nutella to make this calzone!! 😵😵😵

Awsome food and excellent service
Best pizzas ever
Fully recommend it.
Fresh ingredients and I will be back very soon
The tomatoes are amazingly fresh and the whole menu is very well priced

Traditional and authentic Italian pizza, and possibly the best in Sydney.

Claimed to have rested their pizza dough for up to 72 hour, the result? A base that's crispy on the surface and soft in the center. Coupled with generous portions of cheese and fresh ingredients, this is pizza at its best. Our favorite was the diovola and if you're adventurous asked for their legitimately spicy chilli oil; you have been warned.

Our only let down was attention to detail. They could have served our white base pizza before the tomato base, but that's very picky of us.

Of note, if you prefer thick pizza base (e.g. Arthur's pizza) or crispy and thin crust (e.g. Made in Italy) then this may not be the place for you. Also checkin with their friendly staff prior to making a spontaneous visit because this place is popular.

Great pizza restaurant and always a favourite with our friends as well. Pizza and salads very reasonably priced and awesome quality. Nice to be able to bring wine and no corkage. Staff are always friendly and we try and learn some more Italian each time we dine. Need to book and the place goes off so can be noisy - enjoy.
Andrew
Sunday evening and we're both feeling lazy to cook so we tried hard to find a nice wood fire pizza place and voilà, comes Rosso Pomodoro. The Pizza dough is thin and light. It's wood fired and tasty too. Let's face it, you can't make. Margherita pizza anymore than it is but this was nice! I'll recommend this venue 100%
Fatmine
1) it's BYO 2) their pizza is BOMB DIGGITY! Thin base with a crispy crust, soft melting pizza with fresh and tasty toppings, not to mention it came out super fast and piping hot 3) its not in the city, but it's close enough that you can see the city. Go here with your girlfriends with a few bottles of wine before a night out in the city. The waiters are cute ;)

Had a few different pizzas from Rosso and yet to be disappointed. Often make my own pizza dough and its certainly worth proving the dough for at least a day. The extended prove is the trademark for Rosso and it makes for a pizza that let's the toppings take centre stage with no over full feeling at the end. Great tomato sauce base also. Yum!

We visited Rosso Pomodoro this evening for some pizza and drinks. I called an hour before visiting the store for a booking and we were given a table for the three of us.

We ordered the Margherita classica, Diavola and the special- rustichella. All three pizzas were great! traditional pizza with a crisp base and crust with top quality toppings. The pizzas came out fast too! The restaurant was packed albeit 2 empty tables but we got our pizzas within 7 minutes!

Staff are also very friendly and warm. Awesome pizza place!

The Best Sydney's Pizza so far.
Other more fancy pizzerias don't get the same goodness.
Some clients reviewed the Pizza as soggy but that is like we love it in Italy, it is not soggy, it is Beautiful. Recommended.

Consistency unseen in most capital cities, amazing antipasto, tasty authentic pizza, and now licensed (& BYO) meaning a Negroni can be enjoyed pre meal ...
Maestro
Some nights just call for pizza, that most uncomplicated of meals. There's a lot of unnecessary claptrap written about pizza, critiquing it's authenticity, the elasticity of the dough, the type of oven used, etc, etc. To me it's not a dish that merits much analysis. It's just pizza.

All over the world, even in Italy, pizza generally falls into three categories: bad pizza, acceptable pizza and good pizza. I'd say 85% of the world's pizzas fall into the acceptable category. It's unremarkable, but perfectly fine pizza. 10% ranks as bad. Which leaves just 5% laying claim to being a genuine cut above; a superior version of this simple street-food staple. And the superiority usually lies in the chef's understanding and acceptance of the dish's simplicity.

I'd say Sydney has between 10-20 pizza joints which sit in that top tier, and Rosso Pomodoro is certainly one of them. Improbably located in Balmain's soulless stretch of modern apartment buildings near White Bay, the restaurant brings a rare jolt of life to a district that otherwise lacks it. With its bright Broadway "PIZZA" sign and a room full of red plastic chairs, Rosso Pomodoro signals from the get-go that you're not here for fine dining. In fact eating out couldn't get any less complex: you have a choice of pizzas, a small choice of salads, and an even smaller choice of antipasti. My tip is to plump straight for the pizzas. The Margherita is a ripper and, if you're a buffalo mozzarella buff like me, then trade up to the Margherita Regina which comes topped with creamy shreds of bufala and juicy cherry tomatoes. They also do a good and proper Diavola here with a seriously hot salami. It might just be better than the version at Lucio's.

The atmosphere is boisterous, the service is terrific, and on top of that you can also BYO. I wouldn't cross town for it, but if you're in this part of the world and you want to get back to basics, you could do a lot worse than pull up a red plastic chair at Rosso Pomodoro.

i can some it up in one word, impeccable!! so good. my epicure was warm cheesy and just delicious, nothing is better. it s my absolute favourite.

It's been too long since our last culinary affair with Rosso. Funky new chairs, and a bit of a tidy up generally. The food sings - pizza of the absolute highest order. We start with insalata caprese- the buffalo mozzarella is superb. Delicious, creamy, perfect. But wait. In walks the Margherita pizza and the diavola pizza. The Margherita is arguably the most difficult to make - there's nowhere to hide. But this walks with swagger. It doesn't say a word - it just knows.

The diavola is however outstanding. Piccante salami, on a very simple, efficient base, garnished with some roast capsicum. Yum. This is a rockstar.

The real art starts with the perfect base, and the mozzarella brings it home. Perfection.

And the service is slick, the atmosphere a real inner city buzz. 10/10. Privileged to call it our local.

Tip for the uninitiated - DO NOT take the pizza away. Eat in. Else you've missed the symphony being performed at the concert hall. It will sound flat, and you'll always wonder what the fuss was about.

Oh, and no half/half and no pineapple. Don't mess with Napoli.
Sophie Kennedy
Absolutely cannot wait to return to Rosso - everything was delicious and fresh. Staff were lovely! If they delivered I'd be MEGA excited!!
Phil Tran
Best pizzas in Sydney hands down. Very Italian feel to the place. Staff very friendly and helpful. Do be mindful of a wait if you don't book.

I feel like I'm back in Italy. The atmosphere is loud but friendly and the pizza is perfect....my fiancé went as far as to say the "best pizza" he has ever had and I agree!!!! Typical Italian pizza where less is more. Every bite was amazing even the crust!!

Hands down the best pasta in my life!!!!!!! I have no clue what they put in this sauce but I can taste olives but I can't see them. Words can't even explain how good this is. They only do 1 pasta so you know they have perfected it, order this!!!! It's the ricotta and tomato pasta

You must go here....if not for the fact that it's cheaper then an airfare to Roma 🇮🇹😜

Amanda Younes-Dafnis
Went here tonight based on reviews. Pizza was not that great. First our bases were very soggy, second there is hardly a trace of cheese on the pizza! What's a pizza if you can't taste the cheese. One huge issue was there was a hair in my pizza, showed the waitress, she seemed shocked but didn't say anything, she took my plate and gave me a new plate. No apologies from anyone about the hair. Than we ordered nutella pizza. The base was so thin and over cooked that it was crunchy like potato chips. Every single piece. Would not waste my time going here again! Highly disappointed.
DRJ
Great pizza. Delicious flavours. Dessert was a let down. Our italian donuts were ice cold in the middle. Seated quickly, efficient service. If you've booked for the first sitting, they won't let you linger which is fair as there are people waiting for their 8pm sitting.
Amys_food_adventures
Amazing pizza - authentic Italian style. BYO which is a bonus. Best to book in advance as they can get really busy. Staff are friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere with a killer Nutella Calzone! Yum

It's a 9.99. Very nice house rules ( no corkage,no non Italian requests etc) pizza was excellent looked as good as it tasted waitresses all Italians and friendly comp chili oil not a one night stand it's just a pity it's nowhere near transport

I love Rosso Pomodoro. It’s my favourite pizza place in Sydney. But dad hates leaving the East, so I booked and Mario drove us there, not giving him much of an option. “This place is empty,” dad said, as soon as he saw a glimpse of it from the car window. However, it filled up quickly as soon as we sat down, so much so that I felt embarrassed taking photos with my giant camera. Unsurprisingly the colour theme is rosso with red chairs, columns, and tables. The waiters and waitresses have lovely musical Italian accents that make you want to speak back to them with an Italian accent, but I resist the urge. Rosso Pomodoro has rules, which I like. You can’t order half and half, there’s no ham and pinea
Chopinand Mysaucepan
I am not afraid to admit I am a huge fan of the ham and pineapple pizza. And I can assure you there isn’t a guy from wikipedia lurking in this pizzeria.

It’s a bit out of the way if you are used to eating out in the city, but it is well worth the trip over to Balmain. There is one pizza on their menu that i didn’t get a chance to get a photo of. Nutella calzone!

Dumplinggirlandcheesecakeboy
If you love your pizzas simple with a thin and crispy pizza base then this place is for you. Unfortunately, it's hard to get a table and to find a park even on a weekday, so to avoid disappointment you better book or you'll be sorry.
Le Bon Vivant
Firstly, Rosso Pomodoro is unquestionably in the elite category of pizza makers in Sydney, and for that matter in Australia. So in 2011 when they added a truffle pizza to their menu, the food public and media instantly took notice. They currently move close to 150 per week, so the $40 price tag is not spooking either their regulars or newcomers, as clearly the quality delivers to that price point. The aroma of freshly harvested and spectacular local Tasmanian truffles, is totally enhanced by the sublime texture and earthy flavour of the truffle imparted through the eggs, which have been stored with those truffles to complete the overall sensory experience on the palate. Add the rich mouth feel of decadent speck with buffalo mozzarella, and you simply have the perfect pizza in my opinion. Trust me, try it once, and you will be back every year for more…
The Food Zoo
The interior is packed and the walls are painted bright red but what I found most interesting was "The Rules" blackboard hung on the far side of the restaurant

Melt in your mouth goodness!. I absolutely loved this tiny little Italian pizzeria tucked away in Balmain. Their pizzas were to die for and I definitely ate more than I usually would have including dessert! The flavours married perfectly and all the food has traditional Italian flavours. The service was very good and all the waiters were Italian making for an authentic experience. It was like stepping into Italy for the evening! When I dream of pizza I always think of Rosso Pomodoro!

Authentic ingredients, great quality

... meh?. I came to this pizzeria with friends beaming that this was the best pizza in Sydney. Really? My favourite still remains as Mad Pizza in Newtown.
I heard about the staff being militant here in their efficiency, and I respect that. Really I do. I like order and organisation over chaos and mess in a restaurant!
Ambience - zero. There was a red light near our corner and mysterious paintings of erotica.. so strange seeing as this seemed like an beige affair family restaurant.
The potato pizza WAS good. Can't deny that. But otherwise the pizzas were extra hot and soft... like soggy soft. Mad Pizza is always topped with excellent amounts of topping and thin crusty crunchy base. Been there over 10 times now (sometimes we don't like to cook!) and every time it is PERFECTO
People who brag about Rosso pomodoro... need to get out more! Introduced my friends to Mad Pizza, we weren't disappointed ;)
Lydz
I can't give a vote as to whether I like nor dislike this place. It was ok.. Neither bad nor good. The pizza was definitely very simplistic with a decent woodfire base. Some pizzas had ALOT of cheese (we ordered a special that night with pumpkin and prosciutto) which was a bit overwhelming. But if you like a cheesy pizza than this is your go-to place.
Dessert was tiramisu. I think it looks better than it tastes. I have to admit that I've had better.
Olcayozcelik
AVOID THIS RESTAURANT WITH EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF!!. I had the worst service ever in this restaurant tonight. My children and I were made to leave because they couldn't find any room for us with the party that we arrived with. 1 adult and 2 little kids too hard to seat somewhere in a restaurant? Really embarrassing, rude and inconvenient when we get there and have to leave the party of 20 that we arrived with. Good staff are not hard to find.
Who wants to go out and spend money on food with service this bad?
Lisa Petani
Decent size pizza, definitely a family restaurant. Good for a quick bite.
Jcm_au
Everybody read this. Rossopomodoro WhiteBay

The most aggressive and mean-spirited bunch of staff and service I've ever encountered working in a restaurant anywhere. Shame on you Rossopomodoro. And don't EVER touch my pizza with your hands to move it on to one plate. Che' schifo! Vergogna su di voi - Rossopomodoro owners you know what I mean.

All it would have taken was a genuine apology from you - but you couldn't bring yourselves to say it. Diners avoid this restaurant.
CR
Soggy crust. Given the hype, dinner here was a real disappointment. The pizza's base was soggy and the ambience....well, lets just say it reminded me of university dining... Won't be back.
Lou Sellars
Disappointing. Eagerly anticipated trying what has been labelled as Sydney's best pizza restaurant. Sadly, we found the pizzas lacking In flavour and the base quite soggy after a few minutes. Coffee and service was good but that was about it :(
Lisa
Very Good Pizza. I won't say it's the best pizza in Sydney, it's definitely not. But it's damn good and runs rings around most pizzerias. The toppings are delicious - at the time of writing this I think I've tried 10 of them - and the base is always subtle and done extremely well in what I would describe as Northern Italian style (I believe the owners are from the Emilia-Romagna region, although could be wrong). The location is nice, off the beaten track and the staff are lovely. And from memory it's BYO. What more could a pizza-lover want?
Fab Foodie
Love this place. Been here lots of times and love the pizza and all the other wonderful food. Highly recommend!
Jonathan Mayes
Hhnnngggg!!!. Sadly we are leaving the area and relocating interstate! We will miss you Rosso Pomodoro.

What will we miss? The delicious Naples style non-woodfire woodfire pizza with nice thin base, wonderful minimalist toppings, and stringy mozzarella... coupled with no corkage, excellent atmosphere... sharing a nutella calzone before closing time = winning on many many levels.

Book in advance, it is good, it is popular, and I will be back when I am in the area again for dinner. See you soon!
SasSyd
Best Pizza in Sydney. This is probably one of my favourite restaurants. Its authentic pizza and the base is amazing. The outstanding dish is actually dessert... The nutella pizza is out of this world!!!!! The only bad thing I could say is that its sometimes hard to get a table cause its always packed.... The price is also fantastic, never usually pay more than $25 each time I go with a few friends...
Jessica Jae
The food is great! Portions are on the generous side and pricing is quite reasonable.
The atmosphere is beautiful. Depending on where you sit, you can see a glimpse of the city. I love having dinner here because I feel like we're eating at a secret location. Parking is a little difficult to find but not bad. Now the thing that really brings this place down is the service. The waitress that was serving us wasn't particularly rude, but she was just unfriendly and looked and acted like she didn't want to be there. I witnessed a couple of ladies walk out pretty much as soon as they sat down. From what I could hear, it was about the attitude of the same waitress we had. Such a shame.

Overall, I really liked the food and I will be going back again, but I won't be leaving any tips
ElleEffe
While the pizzas are pretty good i find it quite disgraceful to have witnessed more than one time , a lack of respect for patrons. This evening took the cake. The Staff arrogance, the rudeness to customers and the overall attitude is just appalling. There are a lot of good pizza places around and I will no longer support one that shows this type horrid customer service. Rossi Pomodoro shame on you, I'm disgusted.
Pberard
Great Pizzas. Enjoyed a wonderful meal some weeks ago. There were 13 of us spread across 2 tables. The pizzas were fantastic - the closest I have tasted in Sydney to the ones I have enjoyed in Italy. The pastry is thin and crispy and full of flavour and the toppings were just right - you could tell they use top quality Italian ingredients. It was a little too crowded and noisy, but still enjoyable. Great value, particularly being BYO with no corkage. The Affogato was fantastic and the Kids nutella calzone was amazing. Service was excellent and can't wait to go back again for those wonderful pizzas.
Charlie
Don't go.. Having visited this restaurant I would strongly advise not going due to the poor quality of food. Secondly the service is appalling. Thirdly the operators have no respect for anyone but themselves. Their lack of respect to their neighbors is astonishing. There are far better pizza joints run by far nicer people.
Karen Haddad
Worth it for the nutella calzone!. Amazing nutella calzone! huge service - shared amount 4 people.. and absolutely beautiful for nutella fans out there (thats probably everyone anyway)

pizza are nice and simple as they should be and taste delicious :)
Raymond Vincent
I went on a Saturday night was seated promptly after arriving 15minutes earlier than booked, great pizza place, very friendly staff and quick service of food despite full restuarant. Fantastic flavours, missed out on truffle pizza due to season. But very happy with the Cresenza and tomato-less potato pizzas! Penne rosso pomodorro was simple yet packed full of flavour, and bit smaller than expected.
Other than that. Will definitely return to this great pizza place!
Hotlips
Bland, Cold Food, Noisy. I've tried this restaurant 3 times now, as living so close to it, I thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt. So on each occasion, the pasta has been cold, the waiting staff are rude and obnoxious and the lighting is so low, you can barely see what you're eating - apart from the spotlight that shines directly in your eyes from the ice cream cabinet!
The only reason it is being classed as the one of the best pizza places in sydney is because there aren't that many - compared to London or New York, syndey is woefully short on decent italian restaurants.
The pizza is okay - I've had better.
Cisco Jack
Leave this italian one off the list. Rosso Pomodoro was suggested as one of the best authentic Italian restaurants and worth the visit. We went on Saturday night and frankly were disappointed. Service was very ordinary. Ordered a coke and squash - both came out without glasses and we had to ask for them. Had the Calzone al Salame and Penne Rosso Pomodoro. The calzone was too doughy and thick on the edges and no flavour in the salami or tomato base. The Penne was very bland and came out cold to warm. The parmesan on the Penne was low quality. This was our first visit but probably wouldn't go back. I suggest trying the amazing Via Napoli at Lane Cove.
Paul Mayson
Recommended. Superb, authentic pizza; reasonably-priced; no corkage
Jananas
Really good pizza!. I really enjoyed the pizzas. Light and with the right amount of cheese.
Rossco
Authentic Italiano. Quite simply the most authentic Italian ristorante in Sydney.
Hoppa
Very Nice. Went last night Very nice but this isnt the best in Sydney, same leauge as Pizza Mario and Pompei.. I vote them all the same.
Good crust lovely homemade sauce and 100% Italian which is good.
Nothing bad to say about the place apart from the strange fit out.
But Haberfield is still winning with Napoli in Bocca(Amazing)
Tonite I will try La Disfida and review as I hunt for Sydneys best Pizza.

Maybe not as good as I'd expected.... ... but I'd expected great things from all the rave reviews I'd heard!
Pizza bases were light, crispy, maybe I should say, perfect? But I did find the pizzas a bit greasy as there is loads of cheese on there. Really enjoyed the diavlo (sp?) pizza, the salame was HOT! Tried 4 different pizzas, and they were all really tasty. Quite enjoyed the anchovy one too. In true Naples-style, toppings are minimal, so in that sense the pizzas could be viewed as a little pricier than normal (average $22 a pizza). Tried the tiramisu, vanilla panna cotta, and the affogato. The affogato was the winner on the day - loads of vanilla gelato and some chunks of chocolate thrown in there as well. Not licensed but BYO is free so that's a bonus.
We turned up at 6.30 on a Thursday and the place was near empty, but was bustling when we left about 8.15 with a much better vibe than the dimly lit cafe we had entered! Also, the bathrooms are a trek to get to. Service was friendly, efficient, and helpful.
Still to try Lucio's which I've heard is the 'best' pizza in Sydney - however, I better temper my expectations!

Rosso pomodoro. Very noisy, waiters are intrusive and pushy and rude. food ok, but expensive. Insalata verde nothing more than rocket with shaved parmesan.
very overrated and staff are arrogant. If you want to be rushed and treated as a nuisance with mediocre food then you will not be disappointed.

Always excellent. Remember to book ahead.

The best pizza I've had in Sydney. Quality toppings rather than quantity. Like any good bread the perfect base was a glorious combination of soft and chewy with crispness.

Pizza was divine, authentic, high quality ingredients, albeit a little sloppy in the middle (Capriciosa). Love the "no corkage" and the very Italian Italians! (That's a good thing)... Highly recommend.

After extensive research across the city I'd like to confirm this as the best pizza in Sydney!

Delicious pizzas. Sublime - everything i tried was tasty

Love it. For me, this is the best pizza in Sydney, I can't say I've been to them all of course, but Rosso make pizza the way I think it should be, thin crust with minimal but super high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere is always a highlight, lovely Italian waiters, frantic pace to the kitchen and always packed.

The pizza is the star of the show but also free BYO, delicious antipasto plates, fine desserts, definitely worth a visit - for Friday and Saturday I would book 2 weeks in advance at least.

Pizza Prices a little more than other places but I've never had a bad one here! Very simple and authentic Italian pizza. U won't regret it

From Bad to Worse... I have always loved good pizza, from the younger days traversing the globe, and sampling the expression, of what is in someways the global cuisine. So this review is one which is hard to write, as I have eaten with the team at the little hole in the wall in white bay a number of times, and most of these visits were great, the service was always unskilled but friendly, the food fast and fun, and the atmosphere - well lets just say, don't try to have your first date there and its great ...

The last visit however was the complete opposite to this, the service was rude and abrupt, the food was a piece of cardboard masquerading as a pizza, and the atmosphere was likened to a zoo, rather than a quaint diner. we had to wait for 45 minutes for the food, and had to wait a further 25 minutes for our limp salad. I would like to say there was a saving grace in all this but, it was no where to be seen. Even when paying I mentioned this in passing to the manager / cashier who not only said "it couldn't be helped, they were busy". But a moment later obviously passed this information onto the chefs in Italian, so they too could laugh at the complaining customer.

I do live quite close by, and loved the idea of such a great place being in my hood. But it will be a very very long time before I can get that taste out of my mouth, and will be resigned to the drive over the bridge to visit the other two greats ...

Yummo. Great pizzas and great service.

the menu is simple yet creative.

you guys need a bigger shop, it gets a little tight when its full. not comfortable eating

Best pizzas by a mile!. Love this place. Its a Friday night ritual. Nothing nicer than a couple of RP takeaway pizzas and a glass of red. Favourites are the Patate e Salsiccia and the Gorgonzola. Keep an eye on the specials board as you enter the restaurant. How does prosciutto with roasted fig sound? Its a noisy but atmospheric place if you eat in. If you want a quieter evening, get the take out option. Top marks :-)

The food was ok not the best pizza I have had there service was ok until we got asked to leave while we were still eating because they need the tables for other people. Would never go back thought that was very rude of them

Good pizza but spoilt by rude service and waiters that look down on you. A different pizza was served up to the one I ordered. No offer to replace it and even wanted to charge me extra for their mistake! Pizzas are nothing special and definately not worth it for the unpleasent treatment!

Very popular pizza place. No ham and pineapple, no half half pizza's here. Booking is highly recommended.
The location is far from the main road and its in a unusual location, I don't know how anyone knows about it.

The margherita pizza was probably the best out of the 4 pizza's we had. The Della Casa pizza was quite spicy. All the pizza's are thin based and not all are tomato based pizza's. The pizza's are better than other places but it also depends on your taste for pizza, the topics are not piled on like other places but then again its not suppose too.

The anti pasto was nice but I found it pricey. The tiramisu was nice and a large portion. The ambience, its a small place and its actually a little cramped but they do have nice paintings on the wall, and parking can be a problem.

Service was a little mixed, they didn't hear the order for one pizza and they apoligised and the pizza did come soon after that. The waiters/waitresses were quite attentive but also a little over the top, asking if we want something to eat and feeling a little pressure to order something before the ovens closed.

Value: its reasonably priced if not a little expensive for what you get but thats just me being picky. Overall a good experience, though I feel a little generous with the scores I've given.

If you truely love pizza, you will adore this place, possibly the best pizza in Sydney

Bloody awesome pizza. Easily one of the best pizzas in sydney. The pizzas aren't your typical mass produced pizzas, instead...pizzas are cooked with a few ingredients, but fresh and very balanced. The dough is just nice and thin, and the cheese just smelts together in your mouth....

No pineapple pizzas here...thank goodness!

By far my favorite restaraunt ever! Great, unique tasting food. If you ever consider going here, it's well worth your money. My only complaint is that the base of the pizzas are a quite floppy and it causes the toppings to fall off.
Dr Nom
Look this really is great pizza HOWEVER The pizza place 50m around the corner, Piccola Napoli IS better and the best pizza in Sydney. It's a close race but in the end Napoli wins. Try it you'll see

Incredible authentic real fufilling Italian food. there is no better Italian food in the inner west. food was very quick and staff were very nice. highly reccomend rosso pomodoro to anyone

This pizza is superb.. Real authentic Italian from the ingredients to the staff. You will never want commercial pizza again after you try this place!

Serious Pizza. The rules: no half and half, no chicken pizza's, only Italian chefs and best of all no corkage. Rosso Pomodoro is all about the best possible food with the least fuss. Eat divine pizza with mozzarella and speck directly from the mother country surrounded by sensual portraits of curvaceous women. An all Italian wait staff make hearing the specials a beautifully mellifluous if somewhat challenging experience. Take it from a Rosso veteran order the specials. The regular menu is also excellent but the specials elevate the pizza to the best in Sydney. The truffle egg pizza is earthy and silkily textured whilst the chilli prawn has the perfect bite. Leave room for the caramelised fig gelato or share the generous tiramisu.

Fantasically good Italian pizza (I also heard this from an foodie Italian), I haven't dined but the service is always fast and efficient. Thick crust lovers stay away.

Great minimalistic pizzas. About $20 or so; only ever had takeaway; quick & efficient.

This restaurant makes wonderfully authentic Italian pizza. The specials change regularly and utilise delicious imported produce like Spanish jamon and prosciutto di Parma. My personal favourite so far has been the pizza in bianco (cheese pizza with no sauce) with prosciutto and sliced figs- a divine combination
