Review Charlotte Cafe - Balmain

I've come here a few times now and Charlotte's cafe has to be one of my favourite brunch / lunch spots in the area! Highly recommend šŸ¤—šŸ™ŒšŸ¾

The French toast they have was completely different from everywhere I've been the last four years šŸ˜ƒ .. ask them to reduce the chocolate cream if you don't like too much of cream.

Friendly staff, yummy foods and reasonably priced . So much toys available for kids šŸ„° highly recommended

Came across this cafe on Google and was not disappointed. Portions are huge, friendly staff, great ambience and reasonable prices! Would definitely return!

Food/drinks: food was great, tasty and beautifully presented. All came out in a timely fashion, even though we were a big group. Coffee was decent, nothing to rave about though. The apple juice was nice and fresh. Venue: lovely, with an open kitchen. The hanging pots add to the decor. Not a lot of a space, would recommend booking a table. Toilet could do with a clean up, as well as changing the male toilet seat. Overall, not a bad place, would go back.

Our local that we neglect a little because itā€™s so close to home, but breakfast this week was fab!

Great place for breakfast and lunch. Weā€™ve been here a couple of times and the quality has been consistently good. The price is reasonable and the portion are good. I absolutely love the Corn fritters. Staff is friendly; the outside sitting area is very cute. Highly recommended.

Theyā€™ve taken their famous big Brekky and veggie alternative off the menu because apparently people are wasting too much food ! Instead much smaller portion alternatives. I smell bull xxxx . Wonā€™t be going again

My regular weekend breakfast spot due to the great food, people, & efficiency. I pre-order and can dash in and pick up!! Bacon and egg roll with tomato relish is a winner

Maybe had high expectations so found the food is average, nice location tho you can see the city view, the omelette taste bit plan and frenchie wasnā€™t that good compared to Euforia
The Hills Have Fries
Cosy little peninsula cafe serving Campos coffee and a decent sized breakfast and lunch menu. Have been here many times over the years as we used to live around the corner.

Last weekend I went back for the first time in ages and ordered chicken omelette. The chicken was a bit dry and lacked seasoning, the gruyere cheese was nice and the omelette itself was well cooked. Perhaps not the best ingredient combo for an omelette as their other food has always been decent.

The coffee is still good, as always.

A cozy cafe which overlooks the scintillating city of Sydney from Birchgrove, Charlotte offers a variety of Breakfast classics with modern twists and some awesome freshly squeezed juices. However, the persistently packed crowd during weekends and less than desired services might deter me from going back.

The Frenchie, a French Toast with berries, ricotta and maple syrup, is colourful and fragrant. The soft toast stood up against the weight of the kiwis, strawberries and blueberries and remained firm and crispy on the exterior. The Green Machine, a freshly squeezed juice comprising celery, cucumber, apple and mint, is refreshing and tasty.

The food at Charlotte is great and ranks among the better cafes in Sydney. However, its rude proprietor (I think so) who consistently shouts at her crew and customers who diddle a little at the counter (You need to order at the counter) puts me off. Courtesy and good service is fundamental to any food institutions.

This is our first time coming to Birchgrove so we did a bit of Google map search before driving. We found that there is a peaceful Birchgrove wharf just a min drive away from the park so we have decided to come and take some sick pic.Ā . The wharf is facing the Harbour Bridge and you can just take a ferry to go some other places from around AUD 7+ per adult. Otherwise, it is a really peaceful and you would often found a few people fishing here but make sure you are following the Aussie's rule when you fish here (I have no idea though).

A gorgeous cafe in Balmain that has a totally unsuspecting view out the back over the city! Came here for a Saturday brunch and it's a gorgeous spot to just relax with a coffee and read the paper, or catch up with friends. There's beautiful hanging plants and a nice cosy vibe.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Here's what we had:
- corn fritters. My current breakfast obsession, these were really nice. Nice little stack that came served with a nice chive sauce and a roasted tomato.
- eggs Benedict. A big serving piled with scrambled eggs, ham and a drizzle of delicious Hollandaise.
- pancakes. Yasss classic simple pancakes as they should be! Served with a beautiful presentation of fruit and maple syrup these were perfection!

A lovely cafe in a quiet area, as per recommendation by @clairemcpherson.cpm.

šŸ‘‰ CHARLOTTE'S BIG SISTER [4.5/5]
šŸ‘‰ CHARLOTTE'S SPECIAL [4/5]
šŸ‘‰ FRENCHIE [4/5]

The quality of ingredients was on point; wholemeal bread, fresh fruits and veggies, and so on. Combined with fresh juice, I opted for the green machine, a combination of apple and celery- I was very impressed that such a large breakfast could feel so healthy. We are very lucky in Sydney, we have heaps of cafes around which are full of great quality food made out of amazing ingredients, the stuff we can get from there is fairly healthy aswell, take that amazing smoked salmon eggs benedict for example šŸ˜šŸ˜, healthy and packed with protein šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

For a Sunday brunch, we ventured to Birchgrove to Charlotteā€™s Cafe, ready to sample some of their Insta-worthy and delicious brunch dishes! To drink, we started off with the mixed berry smoothie, and the green juice with celery, apple, cucumber and mint. The juice was refreshing and not too sweet, which was great to balance out our delicious brunch.Ā We ordered two dishes to share ā€“ the first was the Veg Out, which had an amazing poached eggs, mushroom, avocado, baby spinach, roasted pumpkin and haloumi on sourdough bread. I especially loved the combination of fresh and roasted and cooked elements, and it was a healthy and nutritious start to the day!

The RnB Diary
Most visitors to Balmain seldom venture beyond the main thoroughfare of Darling Street. It was therefore something of a novelty to visit the lesser known suburb of Birchgrove, no more than ten minutesā€™ walk from the hub of Balmain, for lunch on a sunny Sunday. Located on quiet Rowntree Street, Charlotte CafĆ© joins a newsagent and grocery shop to make up the few commercial establishments amongst the predominantly residential surroundings. Stepping into the single storey cafĆ©, which could pass for a typical suburban bungalow, I felt as if I was visiting a friendā€™s house. The compact space is divided into two cosy dining areas while the open plan kitchen forms the centre of the operation.
The Weekend Foodie
We went on a saturday afternoon and the place was buzzing, an obvious local favourite. We jumped online to read the reviews for charlotte cafe on facebook and it seemed to have a couple of very negative reviews. Thus we didnt know what to except.

Soy Mocha - first time having soy mocha and we dig it. We got a large and boy it was a big cup! The negative reviews indicated coffee was awful but we found it to be quite good?

Green Machine juice - celery, apple, mint and cucumber. A very healthy drink if you are looking to detox. I hate drinking thick juice foam and you wont find any of that here at charlotte

Charlotte's special - a salmon focused dish, sam loved it he said it was like a taste of the sea. The combination of capers, hollandaise sauce, fish roe and salmon cant go wrong. Very refreshing and flavoursome

Veg out - mushrooms, tomato, spinach, avo, poached eggs, sourdough, haloumi and a side of butter. Seriously guys after all this eating, i was ready for some clean eating and detox.. hence the green juice and veg out. This was a perfect brunch the haloumi was a stand out,i have no idea how they cooked it (maybe deep fried then pan fried?) But it was good. I think ive had so much junk in the past few months that my stomach really needed more veg.

Overall we quite liked this litte cafe in the quite streets of birchgrove, it wasnt amazing but it was good, a nice place to chill on the weekend for locals. There seems to be a lot of regulars, we saw a lot of people parked outside the cafe to pop in to get some coffee/takeaway.

We were kindly invited.

Hidden in Balmain, Charlottes Cafe boasts an incredible character! The cafe itself is a tight space, but has a nice decor, lots of natural light and not to mention a view of the city. Warm place to begin your day.

It is important to note that the cafe is a pay at the counter incase you sit down before ordering.

We got an Iced chocolate that was packed with flavour and a coffee on the Campos superior blend. ahhhh my favourite. The service after ordering was quite prompt.

I myself got the marinated grilled chicken breast that came with a generous greek salad. The salad was really nice, and huge pile of chicken for my protein fix.

We also got the Charlotte's Special (An Oldie But a Goodie) and oh boy this was right. A smoked salmon eggs benedict with some great additions which added another element to the dish, including fried capers and red onion. The flavours were amazing and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Overall it was a good experience and one that we would go back for!

There's lots of parking available around the cafe and and lovely place to enjoy your brunch or brekkie.
šŸš© @charlottescafe X @clairemcpherson.cpm
šŸ” BEEF N CHEESE: double beef, tomato, caramelized onion, mixed lettuce, cheese, pickles, bbq sauce and mayo + bacon šŸ”

Visiting Birchgrove for the first time, @_ladyeatsalot_ and I visited this quaint cafe with very homely food. I'd like to say the missus ordered French toast and I got the burger but tbh, both were mine. The common cafe complaint - beef was a little weak. Too soft, and a little overworked. The usage of bbq sauce and mayo did please me though. Chips were a little overcooked for my liking, Sam loved em but. Mixed berry frappe was cool. Literally.

Lovely food. Ā Service was very friendly. Ā Unique merging of Middle Eastern cafe food with more traditional cafe style cuisine. Ā Loved the cottage feel to it.

Came here for Sunday breakfast & it was the perfect place to catch up with friends! It looks like the hotspot where locals grab their morning coffee!

Coffee here is delicious & so is the food!

Our favourite was the French Toast - they managed to plate it so beautifully and lather a generous amount of syrup and toppings & the brioche didn't go soggy! So perfect!

Also, the haloumi on toast is AMAZING!

Don't skip the hash browns here - they are crunchy central!!! ;)
The Next Rush
There is something quite special about walking into a venue that has been established for 9 years when for many small businesses the odds are stacked against them. The swarm of service staff, the hustle and bustle and shuffling of people in and out the tables - this place is loved! Whatever Mother and Son team, Helen and Jason are doing - works!

Mama Helenā€™s house made dressings, meat marinades, hummus and fattoush are all her recipes, and when questioned about the secret ingredients she uses gives you the sweetest smile with a tough ā€œno way Iā€™m not telling you!!!ā€ hahahah. IItā€™s a menu steeped in Mediterranean flavor which Helen says is predominantly Lebanese adding their own personal tweaks. .

MAMAā€™S LAMB - Marinated lamb strip, hummus, spiced onions, tomato, grilled eggplant, mixed salad and thini

SALMON SALAD - features Mamaā€™s home made avocado dressing thatā€™s derived from a caesar. Nice crunch that has a nice hairy texture and radishy taste from the alfalfa sprouts.

GRILLED HALOUMI - served on brioche. Nice sear to this with the perfect amount of cherry tomato to cut through the saltiness

Excellent Service from our attendant, Bew and I noticed what also keeps things fresh are the home made daily specials, again made by Mama Helen. Itā€™s no wonder this place will always be relevant to local Balmainians!

I loved everything about this quaint cafe. The service was super and the food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the French toast, it was a massive portion, beautifully presented and so tasty. The menu was extensive and will keep u going back for more. The coffee was perfect and if u feel like something cold, their healthy, freshly made juices are amazing. All in all loved this cafe and would highly recommend it.

A nice little find. The big breakfast is very tasty and the portions are generous. A great mix of food. Situated away from the busy Darling St, this cafe was a good find. Really relaxing and will visit again.
Coffeebrunchanddinner
Found this little cafe while exploring balmain and birchgrove and stopped in for breakfast. We had the Charlotte omelette and the big breakfast - the meals are not cheap but the servings are generous. The coffee is great. There is not a lot of room and it does get busy but the tables are presented nicely. For lunch there is a range of salads, wraps and burgers. The staff are friendly and if you don't have time to sit in grab a takeaway coffee and something from their treats at the counter. Definitely a cosy cafe worth stumbling upon.

Amazing Coffee, food and staff!

Positive vibes, daily specials are always a treat and a good selection of cakes most are baked daily.

Extensive menu to satisfy a variety of people. Gluten free options available which is always a plus.

Great consistent campos coffee, my daily treat. Food menu recently revamped as well as store fit out. Avocado, tomato, basil and toast also good.

Cosy, relaxed, welcoming cafe with a great vibe.
The food is delicious and the coffee could not be better. Well priced too - definitely one of my favourites!!!

Pleasantly surprised by this little gem nestled in the quiet streets of Birchgrove. coffee was great. I got the avocado and tomatoes on toast as recommended by the previous reviewer. It did not disappoint. This place is also very kid friendly with plenty of space for prams and high chair. Would definitely return to try other things on the menu.

Terrific little cafe tucked away in Birchgrove. Food and coffee are of a good standard. Definitely recommend a visit to escape the crowds of Balmain. I'd say the avocado on toast for $10 is my pick of the menu, also the pancakes are nice.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
Set in a quiet street hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the world, a jewel in the crown of Rowntree & Camerons St's is Charlotte Cafe. A renovated terrace in Birchgrove frequented by locals, business people, backpackers, workers after a sumptuous tasty takeout, families and mothers groups. Kids are very welcome at Charlotte CafƩ, they even have their own menu and activities.
Look Mum No Hands
Balmain and its surrounding suburbs of Birchgrove and Rozelle, have become awash with visitors from all corners of the city, keen to tuck in to its cosmopolitan selection of trendy cafeĢs and restaurants. Precisely why a visit to Charlotteā€™s CafeĢ in Birchgrove, provides such pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle. A place where locals come to meet over a coffee (of which any Campos fan would approve), or one of the appetising dishes this establishment has to offer. Complete with outdoor dog bowls for the four- legged friends of locals ā€“ the place appears to be a family favourite.

This is clearly a local favorite. Lots of people chatting and saying hello as they pass, and the staff on first name terms with many. We enjoyed our breakfast here - corn fritters that were really well cooked and flavorsome, and an amazing vegetarian full breakfast. They also had an exciting line up of cruffins and other culinary sins, which were temptation incarnate.

Hiding away from the Darling St rush, this cute little place has been flying under the Balmain food scene radar. But those who know, know. Filled with well acquainted locals, the all day breaky hit the spot at 2pm on a Sunday. But that being said, it was tough choosing between breakfast or lunch as the rest of their menu (and the food choices of other patrons) looked and smelt tempting. Guess I'll just have to come back to try the rest.

Neighbourhood Gem!. This cafe is such a gem! It's warm and inviting and serving up some hearty food and great coffee. Massive windows at the back of the cafe let in loads of natural light while providing a surprising view of the Harbour Bridge. The staff are lovely as well, which is something we sometimes struggle to find in Sydney. We can definitely see ourselves idling away a few hours here over a weekend breakfast. Love.

@twogirlsonefork

Tucked away in the leafy suburban street of Birchgrove, this watering hole of Ā a Sydney cafĆ©Ā is bustling to no end, and is a great addition to the street with itā€™s pop of red upon entry and the fresh smell of coffee wafting you in.

Did someone say conspiracy theory? We think the locals are trying to keep this place hidden from the rest of Sydneyā€¦ The secret is out! Nestled away in theĀ affluent Birchgrove is this hidden gem. It is merely a short stroll from Balmain Wharf and Balmainā€™s retail strip. This newly renovated character filled cafĆ© with its wooden floors and table tops radiates with warmth.
Forfoodssake
written by forfoodssake Alex: Like most, I should have been on my way to work this chilly Monday morning, but instead it was 8.00 and I was walking into the bustling Charlotteā€™s Cafe in Birchgrove. Before I even waked in, I saw a line of people huddling at the front to get a table, or waiting for their early morning pick me up (coffee of course) and it was actually refreshing to see such a large crowd happy and cheery so early in the morning at what I assume was their local hot spot. As you enter Charlotteā€™s Cafe you canā€™t help but feel like youā€™re walking into a family home. All of the staff were eager and attentive and greeted their customers with such charisma. A simple gesture that can make anyoneā€™s day. As I sat down with my lovely friend Ria, we were promptly able to order our morning coffees. My usual skim mocha for me. The coffee they used was Campos and it was beautiful. Nice and chocolately, but not too sweet. You can tell that they use good quality chocolate. Charlotteā€™s also offers some pretty intriguing juice/smoothie concoctions like the one pictured below. I unfortunately didnā€™t get the name but I believe it was beetroot. It was really sour, but a great morning drink. Energising and refreshing. I think everyone at the table was quite stunned at how beautifully presented the food was. Everything looked fresh, pretty and most importantly delicious. TheĀ salmon bagelĀ was not for me as I am not a fish eater but others on the table were all saying good things! If there was one thing that I could live off for the rest of my life it would be avocados. TheĀ smashed avocado with cherry tomatoesĀ on sourdough bread was insane! The ho

Good food, crap service. No menus, you have to order at counter. High chairs are filthy and not safe.

Bad Service - First Time and Won't Be Back. I had wanted to try Charlotte Cafe for sometime as I just live up the road. A friend and I arrived and found a table up the back of the cafe, it was crowded and hot and no windows were open. The table needed clearing and a gentleman took a couple of plates off the table, leaving the rest of what was there including a stack of papers, some dripped milk, a couple of glasses and a few pieces of lettuce.

We sat there for about 10 minutes and then my friend asked if we were going to be given menus.

The gentleman who had cleared a few things from out table, had since seated himself at a table directly next to ours and had left the rest of the table uncleared. He overheard us and said, on no you have to order at the bar...I said, "We didn't realise as we have never been here before..." We got up to go and look at the menu and he said, a little uncertainly, "oh I can tell you what's on the menu if you like..."

We walked up the front of the cafe to look at the menu. but it was crowded, people everywhere and I suggested to my friend at that point that we go elsewhere. She agreed and we walked up to Darling Street and went back to my usual cafe.

It was a strange experience, largely because no-one bothered to properly clear the table and when someone who I can only assume may have been the owner cleared part of our table, he didn't explain that you order at the bar and sat back down right next to us with his friends and didn't ensure that the rest of our table was cleared.

Disappointing...but at least I know now.
Little Eats Sydney
Charlotte is a destination cafe for families in Birchgrove & Balmain, just look out for the distinctive red door.! It is packed with character, great food and plenty of toys and activities to keep little ones busy and entertained.

Love you guys, but seriously... Still no eftpos?

Cash only payments. In this modern technological day that's just selfish profiteering.

Looks a nice place but not going back until they accept credit cards. Get in the 21st century people.

Good Charlotte. Ok so the owner is a bit of a ladies man... Clearly shows, BUT this cafe is a little gem...! Great coffee, 10 points for the coffee, and it's always consistent .. Food is fresh and the workers are really sweet. Highly recommend this little hidden gem.

Nice place. Can be noisy as is very kid friendly.

I go to cafes every week, at least one new one every week and yet after more than a year, charlottes is still my fav cafe. its got the package- best cafe experience. the three best things about charlottes: the vibe, the piles of newspapers and the hollandiase sauce. my dentist is down the road, always use it as an excuse to visit here when I can!
Ryan
Great balmain cafe. Great cafe tucked away in the backstreets of balmain. Very friendly staff and great to see the owner of the cafe always having a chat with all the customers. Food is good and the charlotte special (eggs Benedict) never disappoints. Great coffee. Campos coffee.

If you don't have kids don't step into this place. It's like a Childcare centre with a cafe. And it's self service. Def not a good weekend hang out spot.
