Review Gigi's Pizzeria - Balmain

Jenny Qian
Came here one night for some food. The girl at the front was friendly and got us a seat super quickly. We sat down and decided what to eat. However, the server was inattentive and it took a really long time to get her to take our order. We got the Margherita pizza and the arancini. The arancini balls were very large and a good texture. They tasted great too, a good ratio of rice to cheese. The cream and cheese sauce reduction was also very good and really complemented the arancini. The pizza was good but nothing super special I guess. For the price that it was, probably expected more. The crust was very thick and puffy!

On my travels to Sydney, never in my time have I been served with such passion, care, and genuine enjoyment of the job. Not only were our servers, who's names, if I recall correctly, were Sasha and Amalia, incredibly kind to us the whole night, they offered what seemed like real and honest insight into what foods we should get, and said foods were absolutely incredible! Our table of 8 all ordered different dishes, and at least half of us agreed that it was the best of that dish they had ever had. Thank you for an excellent night, Sasha and Amalia, and thank you for excellent food Gigi's.

If you are a vegan this place is for you. They have a big vegan pizza, pasta and antipasti menu. And it looks great and tastes great. I had the pizza Diavolo which is my benchmark for any new pizza place I try. It was nice and spicy with nice black olives and they added anchovies I requested at no extra cost. It was a great tasting pizza and I enjoyed it. It’s in our neighborhood and the staff are very nice and friendly. I will definitely be back and get pizza and try some of their other offerings including vegan dishes. A great option in the neighborhood.

Ordered a few pizzas online and one of them had 4 errors to it. I call the store and they refused to send me a new one so I have to DRIVE to the store where they still refuse to refund or give me a new one. After at least 10 minutes of arguing they acknowledged their mistakes but still declined to refund although they took back my pizza that I had paid for. Absolut scam from the owner Toni! Do not go there, such arrogance towards their customers. Worth to mention at least one lady in the staff was trying to be helpful, she had clearly seen this act from the owner previously. Picture of "Creamy" arancini from another time, very inconsistent food

We visited Gigi on Valentine’s Day. The place is beautiful and the staff are super friendly and efficient. The gnocchi was delicious. We had The Best Pizza Ever. We ordered desert it was kind of donuts served with ice cream and caramel sauce, loved it. We really enjoyed our night. Definitely going back.

Really not sure where some of the bad reviews come from. Recently moved to Balmain and this was up there with one of the best pizzas I’ve had in Sydney. Quick service and staff genuinely cared about making our experience a good one. Highly recommend, we will visit this place again and again I’m sure. Authentic Italian spot.

I have been a loyal customer for many years but have been left extremely disappointed the last few visits. We made a booking tonight for 8pm, no one came outside to seat us until 8:25pm. By the time we sat down and ordered, it was 8:50pm. The food arrived quickly however both pasta dishes were covered in pepper. It's all I could taste!! We were constantly chasing the waiters for cups, utensils and napkins (which we eventually had to take from the empty table beside us). It deeply saddens me to have to write this review. Gigi's Balmain used to be my favorite restaurant. We won't be coming back.

We have been here twice and loved the experience, this was the first time we had multiple issues:
1. Waitress who seated us said she would clean the table, 20mins later we had to go in to request the table be cleaned, the vegan menu, water be served and wine glasses
2. Main meal came out that was meant to be served to the table next to us, it had meat in it, we ordered a vegetarian version as I am vegetarian (she referred to it by its vegetarian name). Waitress then went on to serve it to the other table after we told her (although we had eaten from the dish and our fork was in the bowl).
I had to ask for our meal 1.5hrs after we were seated.
3. My pasta came out with a fettuccine rather than a pappaderlle pasta and additional items outside what was on the menu (I had ordered it for the pappaderlle as most places don't have that for veg meal items).
4. I had to go inside to follow up about the issues on more than one occasion so that we would be compensated for wasted time and wrong items.
5. The staff did not know how to escalate an issue as there was no manager on roster.
6. When my partner was paying for the meal the staff didn't know how to refill the paper in the payment machine.

This was a place I had seen on social media and had been wanting to try for a while. We ordered the seafood pasta, the eggplant dish(can’t remember the name) and the prawn pizza. The pasta, eggplant dish and pizza base were all quite good. I was a little disappointed they used those tiny prawns on the pizza though. Always reminds me of the frozen section in coles or woolies.

The standout here is the pizza. Hands down some of the best, if not the best pizza I’ve had in Sydney. The garlic base, cooked to wood fired perfection allowing the three ingredients to present amazingly and work their magic on top. I will be raving about this pizza for a while to come. The pasta is of Highest quality as well, all made in house so it’s guaranteed to be super fresh! I suggest you get in and try for yourself. For any vegans out there, they now have a vegan menu so don’t let it turn you off heading down and paying a visit to Gigi’s.

Just tried a takeaway vegetarian pizza and very happy with it. They have a new vegan menu as well which I didn’t notice until I’d already ordered but I’m keen to sample it next time.

This place defiantly has authentic and delicious pizzas. There crust is a perfect consistency and toppings are strategically placed (if you are after a lot of toppings, you will have to request extra with a charge)

They recently moved from there first location and newly opened up this new restaurant. They have much more space to accomodate more people at there busy times. Inside ambience is very standard and tidy. Can get a bit noisy, if you are also seated in the corridor close to the stone oven, it is a very very busy section with people constantly walking back and forth.

Love this place! Friendly staff and the pizza is delicious! The new location is much better than the previous place, much more open to Darling St.
