Le Paul has gorgeous desserts that seem to suit all tastebuds. The prices here are very reasonable. There is a wide range of small and large cakes, tarts and pastries that look pretty and satisfy the sweet tooths like me 😊
When you're having one of those down days and feel like you need a bit of a 'pick me up', this delightful cafe in Balwyn is the remedy!
It serves scrumptious cakes and heavenly coffee in a lovely setting with great service thrown in on the side. Their lemon meringue and fruit tarts are what dreams are made of. You can easily see and taste the care that is put into the creation of each mini masterpiece.
While it might be a little pricey, it certainly is worth the indulgence every now and again. Love your work, Le Paul!
I love this little coffee shop. They have delicious European style cakes and coffee is consistently good. If they can serve cafe style lunch (with salad?), that would be great. The staff are friendly but sometimes I feel a few of them are a bit business-like when attending customers.
Wonderful coffee, pie, quische and cakes. Good atmosphere. Only disappointment is the attitude of a particular staff member who works there mainly on Saturdays. Huge attitude problem on numerous occasions. The rest of the staff are great! Go during weekdays to get great service!
Le Paul is one of my favourite cafes in Balwyn that specialises in churning out all kinds of heavenly European baked goods. From fluffy sponge cakes and flaky croissants, to melt-in-your mouth quiches, Le Paul is one of my go to places in Melbourne's east when I have a hankering for some pastries and coffee.
Â
Located in Balwyn Village, it is a small cafe with a nice bustling atmosphere. The interior is French-inspired, decked out with Parisian cafe chairs, baskets of baked goods, and rustic photographs of France. With a large communal table and a small outdoor area as well as free wifi, Le Paul is a great place to get some work done while enjoying a coffee and cake.Â
Â
They make all of their goodies in house with seasonal changes in their menu offering. And if their one-person sized portion fails to sate the glutton in you, they also take cake orders for you to take home. I've definitely been guilty of carting off an 8 person-sized Black Forrest cake home for myself.Â
Â
My perennial favourites here are their pear tarts (just WOW!), chocolate flourless cake, orange flourless cake, apple crumble croissant and mushroom quiches. Sometimes however, their cakes can be a little too creamy and bland - such as their Matcha Swiss Roll. The coffees here are also great - smooth, not too intense and most importantly, never burnt in all the times I've been here. And the best part? They serve their iced lattes with a side of sugar syrup so you don't have to try desperately to dissolve sugar into an icey drink.
Â
The staff here are warm and friendly, with prices being very reasonable. And if you are a coffee regular, you can grab a loyalty card and start earning some free coffees!
We are relatively new to the area and still in the process of exploring all the food outlets. Tried their coffee when we were grocery shopping on a Sunday, which tasted great and therefor went back for their cakes. The cakes were great too - so fresh and fluffy. This will definitely become my local dessert place. Love it!
Love every bites of the cakes!!!! They are so tasty. Tired:
Rosie - light, fluffy, full of fragrance, not too sweet, it brings u back to ur sixteen. Love it!!!
Cappuccino Walnut roll - it was the last one they have on a busy Sat. Amazing flavour combination! Perfect for coffee and nuts lover! My fav one as far
Green tea Swiss Roll - nice but green tea flavour is kind of ordinarily to me. Love the red bean they put in the middle, sweetness balances the bitterness of matcha. If u r a big fan of Matcha, u will love it.
Black Forest cake - The cake is soft, fluffy and tasty. However, the cherry inside is a bit too sour for me. I don't like the cherries to be made this sour so I couldn't be able to taste the chocolate
Pear tart - Amazing. All of us love it. We think it is quite special. The pear is still crunchy and the tart is nice crunchy too.
Pear Friand - my least favourite so far. It is still nice but Just too ordinary compared to other cakes.
Overall, I would have to say I totally fall in love to the cakes they served. And so happy that we r having this place near Box Hill. Will definitely going back very often with my friends!!!!!
Cakes are very nice. Tried their Swiss roll and gateau cakes, flurry and fresh, not that sweet. The coffee is good too. Will try different cake each week.
Possibly the best matcha and adzuki beans Swiss roll that I have ever have. It's not too sweet and the taste was glorious. Cappuccino Swiss roll is worth trying too. Will definitely visit again.
A quaint local cafe and bakery that seems a popular local space.
Food ordered:
I had a coffee and a pastry. A simple afternoon snack as to get some work done out of the home office. The coffee was good, a well rounded, full flavoured milk coffee that goes down well. I don't think they serve specialty coffee but the barista seemed quite focused on his process which is encouraging. The pastry was good, being the end of day it had lost its freshness but the flavour of the crust and fillings were nice. Overall a good taste experience and worth popping in for a small bite
Ambience:
The service was very friendly and helpful. It was actually quite busy but everyone looked happy. Many locals were stopping by and making conversation as well.
There are a lot of bakery and cafes on this block, so why not try them all!
I absolutely love this little bakery.Being a local in Balwyn, this is the place I go to for my coffee regularly.I buy most of my desserts here for special or normal occasions.Great customer service.
Best cafe with excellent pastries, cakes, quiche, coffee, tea, and welcoming hostess and staff make you feel at home.
All pastries are popular so need to go early before all sold out.
I believe it is one of Melbourne's best pastry shops. I particularly like their custard filled strawberry flan, pear tart... actually everything. I normally don't eat desserts, but when my wife bought a fruit flan home, I tried some and it was really amazing. I visited them again and bought their egg loaf, apparently Friday only special. and it is very nice.
It is a small place and it can get very busy when people queuing for their coffee, I have to say I understand why, it is strong, creamy and really decent! It is a small place but beautiful decor and I will definitely visit again.
I ordered a cake for a work function, one week before it was required.
The cake was okay but crumbly and dry, was supposed to be a chocolate mud cake.
Looked pretty but have had better.
I have been to Le Paul a lot, usually in the afternoon for their coffee and cinnamon donut (I love their donuts!!) After starting a new job in Balwyn and trying out several other coffee shops, I think their coffee is always high standard, creamy and strong. I love my coffee there. I got in early on last Friday, I was overwhelmed with their pastries offerings. They have everything I wanted and more :) I tried their almond croissant and chocolate croissant. No wonder they always sold out, so fresh and the chocolate in chocolate croissant is really high quality. I would definitely get them again! And I can't wait to try the other pastries and cakes. Really amazing! :)
I really needed a cake for the weekend, so I checked out their photos on instagram, called and wanted to know if I can have something really amazing. OMG they really helped me and it was very easy and pleasant. I ordered their strawberry flan, it was amazing, custard definitely top class! Very light and smooth, and I loved the shortbread base, buttery and very fresh. High quality cake which received lots of comments at the family lunch. I know where to get my sweet treat next time :)
Such an impressive little cafe that I have missed despite walking past numerous times. Their coffee can rival many in Melbourne. Strong and bold flavours that shine through even as an iced latte. The pastries are just divine albeit somewhat dear in price. Tried the Miara - 2 shortbread cookies filled with cream and jam - and was wowed. The shortbread was buttery and crunchy, the cream was soft and creamy and the jam provided a bit of sweetness and tartness. The cappuccino swiss roll was delightful, although I would prefer more sponge cake to cream ratio. I could eat the fluffy soft sponge all day if I could. To top it off, service was sweet and welcoming and certainly deserving of praises.
Absolutely beautiful pastries and cakes! We regularly buy cakes for birthdays at work and we stumbled across this little gem when our cake order at Michel's was mucked up - thank god we did! We won't go any further then Le Paul's from now on. Their flour-less chocolate cake is beautiful and their pasties are yummy too! Can't wait to try more of their goodies!
I thought that I would try this place and boy was I glad I did. The coffee is pretty good but I couldn't walk past the delicious looking pastry. The mushroom quiche was surprisingly really good. I also had a pear astray and that was really really delicious. Friendly service. Water was given to me as soon as I sat down. I can't wait to try the other pastries and cakes.
Exceptional pastries, great coffee and friendly service make this one of my new favourite cafe's in Balwyn. Everything is baked fresh on site too!
Best vegetable pastie outside Europe! And I mean it! Amazing quiches absolutely better than other places I have been to. And coffee, the coffee they serve is the best in Balwyn, I asked for where to go to get good coffee, the shop owners told me to go to Le Paul, and I have to say they are right.
Boutique and classy shop with very nice ambience. Really nice cakes and pastry with some very creative designs. Staff are attentive and extremely friendly.
Super nice and friendly staff, very nice food and excellent coffee, I've rarely been disappointed and have always been treated with a smile and quick efficient service. Anything with cream or chocolate is worth a try and as said before the coffee is very good. :)
Amazing food, service and coffee. Great value and you can tell the baking has real heart. Love how there's always something new to try. Also great for kids - mine love the quiche among other things. Definitely worth checking out.
Great cafe in Whitehorse Rd offering delicious French pastries, excellent coffee and friendly service. This new find is a lovely addition to the burbs.
Coffee and pastry were excellent. Â While waiting for our coffee, we were served water without having to ask for it. Excellent and friendly service.
Have been here a few times. Never walked away disappointed. Their pastry and donut are always fresh and tasty. The staff are friendly and attentive. Will definitely keep coming back .
Love this place, great ambient, they have gluten free cakes too and I tried and love their chocolate croissant. Great coffee too. I will definitely try one of everything.
Nice new cafe in Balwyn. Great friendly service and love the cakes and other sweets they have. Definitely try the cakes and doughnuts if you can. A big rival to Laurent directly opposite, however this place is more friendly and welcoming. Could improve on the coffee though but overall a welcome addition to the whitehorse rd strip of shops.
Great cafe in Balwyn.I come here often for the doughnuts which are just delicious!! Cakes and pastries are really yummy here,I've ditched Laurent  cafe across the road and come here now.You can tell that everything is baked fresh, customer service and staff are friendly and welcoming.
All pastries are very nice. Although coffee is not exceptional, it is average and its always nice to go with a piece of cake. All staff are very approachable with lovely smile! Glad to have an alternative to Laurent.
Been to this place few times and try some of their cakes. I can tell you they taste amazing. Never disappoint. Coffee also good. Small little place with a nice ambience. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Great experience.
Great cafe spot in Balwyn. The service is always good. The staff are always so friendly. The coffee is great. The real treat is their baked goods, which are just amazing. Absolutely worth a visit.
Coffee ok and tried the vegetation pastie fresh from oven which was tasty. Has free WiFi and WC which was great! Nice to chill here while getting some work done.
The best patisserie shop in Melbourne
Gorgeous bakery full of excellent treats. The little brioche mice in the window were a great start. Another guest was savouring one with a coffee, and told me they usually sell out early. I had an almond croissant with my coffee, and it was lovely, more of a tender style than a crisp one. Staff were delightful too, and there are magazines, newspapers and free wi-fi. Ask for the WiFi password, it's an amusing one.
Friendly staff, quick service and tasty food.
I thoroughly enjoy coming into Le Paul Patisserie and getting my morning coffee on the weekends... until my favourite waitress suddenly left. She had very funky short hair and a lovely attitude that made my day! Don't know what happened to her but she's definitely a keeper!
I was served by a lovely youngster last Saturday, she had short hair and a white jumper, I believe her exceptional service was worth recognition and praise. will be coming back soon and hope to see her again, she is an asset to this great establishment.
One of my favourite cafes in Balwyn. Brings me back to London and Europe with fancy tea and desserts. There's an outdoor fog friendly area. Highly recommended visiting.
Great customer service. Friendly staff that make you feel welcome. Excellent coffee and even better cakes!
