Review Dong Ba - Bankstown

This has always been my go to place for the best bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup) in sydney. This restaurant has been around for as long as I can remember (10+ years) and the flavor and quality has not changed one bit. The soup is flavoured to perfection with tender slices of pork and a generous serving of salad and bean sprouts.

Decent food here and amazing soup. Friendly staff and fast service as well. It has your usual tea ready for you but there's plenty of drinks to choose if you want something else. I do recommend trying out the bun no hue as that's the store's specialty

Had a late night quick dinner before closing, cash only place but worth the visit to the atm a block away, they are very friendly and the food was amazing. Not usually into soups but love Vietnamese food. Good location with plenty of parking around. Again can't comment on all the food but this Beef Soup Pho was totally amazing! Highly recommended for that genuine Vietnamese food experience.

A decent place to get a bowl of bun Bo hue. The standard is quite similar to that of those around the area.

Love Bun Bo Hue in this shop, we come to have this dish every weekend now. We haven't tried many other dishes on the menu so far, only the that Bun Bo, and Banh Uot Cha Lua (steam rice cake with pork sausage) which is quite yummy too.

Have been this restaurant since 2008, the food tastes great. Sometimes the soup is a bit plain.because when they ran out of the soup thry would add more water into the soup. I occasionally find plastic wrapping for the pork sausage attached to the sausages, I have also found the cigarette box plastic wrapping paper too. Because there was a red string on the piece of plastic. I called the staff to show them, they saw the plastic and quickly took it away to destroy the evidence. The boss was always angry when I ask for some more chili sauce with my takeaway.

If you are looking for some quick Vietnamese food in Bankstown, this place will be up your alley. The Pho is very nice and service is very quick. The place mightn't look the best, but the food is good.

I’d say that it could be better if the place was cleaner. My pho was nicer than other restaurants, but my friend’s bun bo hue was quite tasteless. Most things are $12, and this place has large servings.

The Vietnamese iced coffee from this corner restaurant in Bankstown was sweet and refreshing with a nice coffee flavour. Staff are friendly and welcoming.

Came here for the famous dish bun bo hue to try out the hype. Just disappointing cause I’ve already read some reviews saying that some people got disappointed by dong ba’s signature dish which was bun bo hue. I still gave it a try and I must agree that the bun bo hue is definitely not as good as its supposed to be. Like some people have already mention there’s a lack of the lemongrass which is the most important ingredient of this soup as well as the spiciness which I couldn’t taste out of this soup. Unfortunately this visit was a disappointment for me. and the restaurant was just trying to save money in the ingredients. guys, please listen to the bad reviews they’re true.

I’ve always past Dong Ba but never been in so I finally went in to try them out.
I tried a favourite cold noodle dish of mine “Bun Suon Cha Gio”
Filled with rice noodle, pork rib and spring roll. This lovely dish was found @dongba In Bankstown
I absolutely loved how light and fresh this dish was. The pork was nice and juicy.
This was a great find and in my top places to visit for this particular dish
Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the pho here.

For more Vlogs check out my YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8CQlEE62GLokH8jGtAEajg
For more blogs check out my Instagram -
https://www.instagram.com/cutiefoodie_au/

Cheap, nice and easy
Always satisfies my craving for spicy beef noodle (bun no hue).
Do not order pho! It’s bad.
Rice option is not great either
Nothing to fault here. Food was nice. Service was very friendly. Location could not be better. Had the bun bo hue (spicy noodles), pho dat biet (special beef bowl) and pho tai (rare beef bowl). $12 each. The spicy noodles was pretty good, lots of meat, broth was full of flavour and they can adjust the spice level. Unfortunately there was a small bone in my friends beef bowl. Nevertheless, i personally liked my dine in here and wouldnt mind coming again.

I came here for the hype since i had heard many good things about their "Famous bun bo hue" but left really disappointed at the dish as it was lacking a lot of the lemongrass/chilli flavours. Overall i dont know why the bun bo hue is well known here and dont see the hype behind it. Not very friendly service either...

Dong ba is a small restaurant in bankstown but it's a very famous in this area. They make a nice spicy beef noodle soup. When I want to eat spicy noodle soup, I must go this place. And their staff are friendly too.

Since my usual pho restaurant was closed for Chinese New Year. I decide to give this place a go. Ordered my special beef pho, rare beef pho, 2x coconut juices and some spring rolls as a starter. As we waited for our food to come out.. I noticed another group of customers - one lady was rubbing ice on the arm and thigh.. Not paying much attention as to why? I shortly found out the hard way.
After our starter arrived not long after our hot phos were placed on our table... as we started placing our condiments into our pho. The table was jolted suddenly from a waiter cleaning the floor. You can only imagine how hot the broth from the bowl was when it hit my thigh and splashed onto my stomach... I fell backwards off my seat was in pain from the broth soaking into my clothes and burning through my shorts and shirt. It took me a good 5 mins to get sorted out from the accident. Waiter was apologetic - obviously!
By the time I was good to finally eat I wasn't offer a fresh bowl of pho or anything to help my burn.. the group of customers I mentioned came over and often me their ice cube bowl for my wound.. I was grateful to them since no management asked if I need anything for my burn.. I soon realised the lady rubbing ice on her arm and thigh was also burnt. Before she left.. she came over to our table and said "good luck" and she showed me her wounds arm dark red... I ask did they give you a discount at least? She nodded and walked out hold her wound..
When it's was time to pay our bill we were asked by the waiter who caused the accident if we wanted things taken off the bill she pointed to the drinks I said you decide what we should be discounted only to find out my friend paid full price for our meal -$40 + two burn wounds for free!!
The food wasn't that great either.. spring rolls dry! Pho broth very chickeny in flavour not a get deal of meat or noodle.. Disappointed and frustrated! We won't be ever going back here! BEWARE the waiters bumping your table!
The Next Rush
The standout is the sheer size of portions and mountain of accompanying salad they serve with it. I asked for the spiciest which is called 'Bun Bo Hue' (spicy beef noodle) and asked them to leave off the blood jelly, im just not game enough yet. Very satisfying meal which i ordered with extra beef for a $2 surcharge.
This Dong Ba's signature Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Noodle Soup) is definitely better than the one in Cabramatta on John St. The noodle soup is tasty & spicy with nice aroma of lemongrass. Overall, a great bowl of Bun Bo!

Tried their Pho and Com Tam (broken rice with pork chop) too, but they're both not up to standard in taste. So just stick to their signature Bun Bo Hue!

Service is ok.

One of the few restaurants around this area that is open late and on public holidays. I usually go here when I can't be bothered travelling far and want noodle soup. Wouldn't trouble myself to travel far to eat here.

If you decide to go here, I recommend getting the Bun Bo Hue. Only a couple of restaurants in the area make this. The bowls here are filled more than Gia Hoi across the road. It is not mind blowing but is nice enough to ease any cravings.

The Bun Rieu here is okay. The broth is bit on the sweet side for me. Otherwise it is nice but not amazing.

The pho is decent. I only get pho if one of us is craving for bun no hue and we have to eat here. If you want to eat pho you should go down the road to Pho An or if you want the homely type Pho, Thang Long is the place to go.

Rice dishes are very average. Don't get them if you can't help it.

Another day another bowl of Pho... What was meant to be a pilgrimage to my favourite Pho joint in the "world" only to find it shut for TET / Lunar New Year break... I ventured into Dong Ba... Been here a few times previously however each time It left me wanting and thinking why didn't I just stick to the sure bet up the road... On an empty stomach I ordered the Pho Dac Biet as the usual go to dish.. However for Dong Ba their signature is Bo Bun Hue so I was definitely feeling Google lucky this time by steering away from the house dish... The pho was pretty Damn good... They have definitely improved their broth since my last visit it tasted more intense and sweeter along with ample condiments I was a happy camper.. Protein was cooked well although again I wish for more funky bits..serving size wont leave you hungry. All in all this is my top 3 pho joint in Sydney! Would I return? definitely! Whenever the other place up the road is shut that is...

Probably just best to order what they're known for, spicy beef noodle soup. I on the other hand don't like spicy so I thought I'd try their pho. Rare beef pho $11 soup was sweet quite nice but very oily. The rice noodle pork chop and spring rolls $11 was ok, nothing special. Just go to Pho An if you're craving pho in Bankstown

Used to come here twice a month. Cheap eats, food came out quickly. Be careful when you pay as they are not that good with numbers but tend to do it manually.

My favourites here are the Bun Bo hue and the Bun Mang Vit.

Bun Dac Biet – Vermicelli rice noodles with spring rolls, grilled pork, braised sugar cane prawn $14. This to me is comfort in a bowl, soft fluffy rice noodles that feel like clouds, caramelised pork pieces, crispy deep fried spring rolls and that braised sugar cane prawn, a little sweet and salty with a satisfying chewiness uhh! Eating this is akin to kicking my shoes off after a long day at work and undergoing a pampering ritual. And boy do you get a lot of it – cannot recommend highly enough.

Everytime I come to Dong Ba, I wished I had lived closer to Bankstown. There is no comparison to the quality and price of the Bun Bo Hue they serve here. It's a lemongrass chilli noodle soup with beef, pork trotter, fish cake and offal. Naturally, it comes with condiments consisting of beanshoots, cabbage, a variety of vietnamese mint, lettuce and lemon to give that Vietnamese freshness its food is famous for. There is a reason 90% of the diners order this and 100% of the reviewers talk about this dish and that's because they are to chilli noodle what Pho is to Pho An.

They are so confident that the noodle or meals they serve here will fill you that they don't even bother to offer entree's so forget about your attempt to be cultured by looking for the spring rolls or skewers.

This restaurant deserves a 4 because not once in the 8 years I have frequented here has the quality dropped or the prices increased. True authentic Vietnamese food with absolutely no hint of pretentiousness.

The food is nice and cheap here, I always come here for the bun bo hue here, I've had it at other places and it just doesn't quiet hit the spot like this place. Service here depends but as a regular they are pretty welcoming.

Dong Ba is a Vietnamese Restaurant located in Bankstown with three other stores in Cabramatta. It's cheerful, full of locals and that's a sign it is pretty good. They're well known for their 'Bun Bo Hue' which is a spicy beef noodle soup. They also have many other dishes that are available but may not be the best but standard tasting. Beef bones and beef shank are simmered with lemongrass for many hours with shrimp paste then added later on to form Bun Bo Hue. For those that haven't tried it, it has an acquired taste with unusual ingredients but it is a dish I definitely recommend for those who haven't tried. The prices have increased since the last time I was
Noisy Noodler
The Bun Bo Hue ($10) is a huge serving of soup noodle goodness. If you’re not shy about animal products like processed meat or offal, this is deliciousness in a bowl. The round, white rice noodles are topped with chunks of tender pork, slices of fish cake, tender beef, and big firm, cubes of jellied pigs’ blood. Chilli flakes and chilli oil float on the golden broth, which is spicy, and fragrant with lemongrass and deep beef and fish flavour.
I Ate My Way Through
Viet food is probably one of my favourite cuisines. It tastes of home... I love the herbs, the spices, all the greens and just the simplicity of its flavours. My parents always rant about how a bowl of Pho Dac Biet (beef noodle soup) or Bun Bo Hue (spicy

Nice food. Nice down to earth Vietnamese cuisines. Flavour is a bit heavier than other restaurants we've been to but I supposed it's what you're used to. We had pork chop rice (a bit tough), beef salad noodle(quite spicy for me), and combination fried rice noodle for the kids( a real combo as it came with slices of tongues, innards that I wasn't prepared for). Overall food is good but we prefer the one just across the street (see my other bankstown review ).

Nice food and cheap... The staff never smile and not polite

Nice & spicy Bun Bo Hue is the staple at Dong Ba. Big serves, cheap prices, crowded tables, noisy atmosphere, it is everything a good noodle soup shop should be.
Sydneyguyrojoe
This is better than the Cabramatta one. Nice food and cheap, like a lot of vietnamese places. Prices seem to be slightly cheaper than other vietnamese places. Nil issues with service. The place though is a little small but also what you expect.

The standards have dropped in the last few years The staff were rather rude ( they didn't know I understood Vuetnamese) food is okay nothing special; it's cheap but u get what u pay for I suppose overall quite dissappointed I don't think I'll ever go back

WORTH TRYING FOR!. This place is great for a cheap lunch..great servings and great value!
Most of their noodles cost only 7 dollars a bowl, add-on a sweet dessert Vietnamese drink with coconut drink to compliment the meal is only 2 bucks more!

Full of flavour, the service is fast, cheap and the noodles are so tasty!!!!
