An Aladdin’s cave of cheesy delights. You will enjoy the selection and fresh bread . Hard not to leave without one of their shopping bags overflowing with delicious goodies. Definitely a must visit.

My partner and I are cheese lovers. If we were told for the rest of our lives we could only have cheese or chocolate we would both choose cheese without any hesitation. So we were very excited when we first came across the Little Cheese Shop in Maylands and have popped in whenever we need some really good quality cheese for a special occasion.  For those who always bag Perth as not having the variety that our Eastern cousins have available to them.....some of the cheeses sold in The Little Cheese Shop are only available in this shop (in Australia at least).  That's because the owner is very passionate about cheese and goes out of his way to source some real crackers (every pun intended).  Anyway, I digress. Last night we decided to go to the wine and cheese matching session where Geoff matched some fantastic cheeses with Myattsfield wines.  This was a really interesting way to enjoy the cheeses and the tastings sizes were generous and paired with a selection of gourmet crackers, bread (the fruit bread was perfect), muscat grapes and quince paste (beautifully presented).  I've never matched cheese with wine before but the selections seemed to work really well.  On offer was a Forage De Meaux which was paired with a Chardonnay. Its fair to say that we both went of Chardonnay in the 90s, too woody and sweet for our taste. Myattsfield's Chardonnay is a cut above, drier in style and the winemaker tells us this is because the vines are grown inland instead of on the coast. Next up we had a Torndirrup Apenzelle and a Red Cow Swiss Tilsiter Red which were both paired with a sparkling merlot (yes, that's right...merlot, not shiraz).  Both cheeses were superb although I did struggle a bit with the nose of the Tilsiter Red.  My partner on the other hand thought it was the best.  The bubbly was really light and would be perfect with a cheese platter on a hot afternoon.  Next up on the tasting was a Hafod Organic 18 month Cheddar which was paired with a Shiraz Mourvedre Viognier blend....all that was missing was the crackling log fire!!  As if we hadn't tasted enough cheese and wine we still had three to go.  Next up was a Rolf Beeler 28 month aged Gruyere and a Colton Bassett Stilton which were both paired with a Durif (again...think wood fires).  The cheeses were incredible and we were both surprised to find that we liked the Stilton (having not previously liked blue veins) which was smooth and rich and earthy.  Both the SMV and Durif were wine styles we've not tried before and we really enjoyed both varieties which went superbly with the cheese.  The evening ended with a Wijngaard Reypenaer VSOP (aged gouda) which was paired with a fortified wine called Nancy (after the wine makers grandmother).  Both worked really well together. And just when you though you'd had enough we were treated to a mulled Verdelho which was flavoured with orange, ginger and star anise.  Overall we had a fantastic two hours, learnt a lot about cheese and wine all for a very reasonable price. We'll definitely do this again.

What a fabulous afternoon. Met 2 other friends for the high cheese. It’s byo which is a massive plus. Plenty of food for you $40 which included hot savory treats, cheese, crackers, fruit bread & also 3 different dessert tastings.

Lacked a little atmosphere as we were the only people there but it was great service. Easy access on public transport so if you are planning on drinking (like we were) then train& bus options are super easy.

I’d definitely return.
